Emily has just moved to Dc leaving her family behind. Her twin brother Garrett who has bipolar disorder and who has caused her so much concern and pain, her parents who put some more weight on her shoulders than they should.
She moves in with her friend Greer who works with the government and whom she hardly sees bc of her work.
She starts working teaching law and at a legal clinic where she helps women.
On her first day of work, Greer encourages her to go out for drinks and that’s where she meets Vaughn, the man who is going to change her life.
Vaughn is handsome, mysterious, sexy, charming and during the months they dated, she couldn’t be happier.
Until one day Vaughn announces that he has to go away for work and that he doesn’t know how long he will be away.
And soon after this all hell breaks loose for Emily. Vaughn is not the man she thought she was,he has used her for his ends and left her with a broken heart and with the feds accusing her of treason.
What has she gotten herself into for loving the wrong man? Was it all a lie or was there something real between them?

I’m new to Violet Paige, but Resist is riveting and had me guessing what would happen next, that I am now a Violet Paige fan! It does end in a surprise cliffhanger, which normally isn’t my thing as I usually need to know what happens next NOW, but it was so well done, so well written that I will definitely be reading what comes next for Vaughn and Elliott.
The story is intriguing with a lot of twists and turns and definitely one that I had to keep reading to know what was happening next. From about the third chapter, I was hooked. Character development was spot on, that you felt like you knew them, wanted to be friends with them…and dare I say, spend one night with Vaughn…cause HELLO, he’s HOT and knows what a woman wants before she even does! He’s on my list off all-time favorite book boyfriends! The explosive chemistry between Elliott and Vaughn, were “MELT YOUR PANTIES OFF HOT!!” Scenes were well written and just reel you right in.

Hum.....I don't really know what to say about this book. I LOVED it but....bear with it peeps as it's a bit slow to begin with and a bit rushed at the end but that being said, it is a full length book and certainly leaves it open enough for the second book which I believe is due out in March.
Resist is a great story. The relationship between Elliot and Vaughn is intense and at times VERY steamy (cold shower alert!) and yes, as other reviewers have mentioned Elliot seems a bit naive especially as she is a lawyer but lets be fair, this story isn't about the in-depth relationship at this point. Both characters are busy in their own lives, though Vaughn is a very closed character (but VERY sexy), so i guess it's not too far a stretch the way the relationship works.
It's a fast paced, intriguing and suspense filled romance with some very steamy moments and quiet a story being built. It does seem rushed at the end and the decisions made by both characters at times seems a bit bewildering but I think that Violet is honestly building us for the next book in March.
It is a stand alone as such and does have a HFN (happy for now) ending....but there is SO much more I am sure to come! It's full length so I am not sure why some reviewers are upset, it's not a serial but is definitely more than just this book (which I think Violet doesn't make clear in the blurb). It's certainly worth reading and I found the ending ok...for now! Buy this book...keep it if you want to read as a series, or simply enjoy what this one has to offer.

I started Emily and Vaughn’s story backwards by reading “Surrender” first. I knew by the end of that story that I needed to read this one – not because the stories can’t be read alone but because I wanted more of this couple. And reading “Resist” did not disappoint! It’s the beginning of Emily and Vaughn’s journey and quite the tale. There’s plenty of emotions and passion surrounded by challenges of daily living, moments of family angst, unexpected elements of intrigue and subterfuge, and the pain of betrayal and heartbreak.
This is an intense and compelling romance filled with well-drawn characters. The storyline development is solid, effortlessly drawing the reader into Emily and Vaughn’s lives and relationship. It is a fast-paced read that easily draws you in from the beginning and keeps you captivated throughout. It’s a story you won’t find easy to put down. And when you get to their HFN ending, trust me, you are going to want to read “Surrender.” They’re both stories I highly recommend.

I liked it! I knew there was a twist coming, but I didn't quite put my finger on it. Looking forward to a sequel for the HFN ending? But if there isn't one, it isn't unsatisfying. There are just some plot threads in regard to the case that the heroine is working that I'd love to have put to rest.

I'm conflicted, first off this was an add on book on one of the authors other books I read so the editing was poor. in general I thought it was a fair story. Seemed a little jumpy at times but a quick read with quite a bit of steamy scenes.

This is a fast-paced read with plenty of drama and suspense. Emily is starting over in DC and meets Vaughn. The chemistry is steamy and their relationship has plenty of twists and turns. I loved this read and am looking forward to Surrender the conclusion of Vaughn and Emily’s story.

Did not see a second book coming. Although I don't see a second book out and it said it would be out March 2017. Hopefully it comes out eventually though. I definitely wanted to read what happens next.

I liked the story but it was hard to believe that a do gooder like Emily would take off with a guy like Vaughn....there has to be more to his story.

This was my first book by Violet Paige and I am hooked on her writing! I NEED the next book in this series, not because I am dying of suspense, but because I am not done with these characters. This twist was very interesting and the heat was pretty epic. The emotions, however, are what won me over. Definitely going back for more from this author soon!

Resist was intense; will an element of mystery and a fierce burning attraction between two people whose paths suddenly collide.
The beginning was a little dry and slow paced but I'm glad I persevered because it definitely picked up and got better.
I liked Elliot; she's quite reserved but when she bumps into Vaughn; her coy yet flirty side comes out to play. Vaughn was sexy, mysterious yet cocky with a dominant alpha persona; who definitely gets all the juices flowing ;). He was very intense and had a bad boy vibe right from the beginning. Vaughn should come with a warning label because damn I think my ovaries exploded everything he made an appearance lol.
The plot was good but I didn't really care about Elliot's family drama. I wanted more interactions between her and Vaughn - I'm surprised she didn't click on quicker or get suspicious especially, when he never invited her back to his place. She's a lawyer by profession yet she doesn't ask questions about his background, family or friends.
I loved the intensity of their attraction; it was explosive, raw, consuming and draws you in like a moth to a flame.

OMGosh!! I really don't like to read about a couple in more than one book. It's actually one of my biggest pet peeves. I don't care if I have to read 600 pages, but come on... don't split up ONE couple's story into 2, three or six books.. or booklets. UGH!!! That being said. I'm okay with this being part one of two, lol.
The build-up was slow, character development was not rushed at all and the story was pretty darn amazing!! I love the chemistry between the characters! I so can NOT wait for the second part!! This was an all the feels kind of novel. I laughed, I cried, I was angry and I was swooning. It's a heady mix of first dates, sexual tension, dominance, mystery and love.
Vaughn is this very hot very mysterious man who by chance bumps into Elliot. Vaughn says he in lending but one has to wonder if that is true. What hot man with his persona would be in lending? Elliot is a smart beautiful woman trying to find her place in this world while changing lives teaching law and working at a center for women offering legal aid.
The chemistry between this is intense.
You will not be able to put his down. You will be captivated from the beginning.
I am new to this author but will definitely read more of hers.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the first book I have read from Violet Paige. I must say it started off a little slow but soon picked up. this book was intense full of mystery and intrigue. The main characters were great and had a lot of chemistry.
