The Iranian people despised their leader, Reza Shah, who catered to foreign businesses while ruling Iran as a dictator. In 1979 discontent boiled up into all-out revolution. Led by the charismatic Ayatollah Khomeini, the Iranian people seized control and created a new government based on the Islamic religion.

The books is a nice summary of the Iranian revolution that took place in Iran back in 1979. It discusses the political and social build up that helped the revolution succeed. The author is pretty objective on his approach to the assessment of the revolution. It could have been more elaborate on few events in order to allow the reader to fully engage. This would be a great book to read if one is very well familiar with operation Ajax and the political turmoil that took place in Iran from 1906 till 1979. Recommended read...
This is a good introduction to the issues leading up to the Iranian Revolution of 1979 and the events that have spilled from it up to today. The author quotes a number of Iranians regarding their experiences and observations. If you have time to read only one book on this subject, I recommend this one.
Entry level book that most people would find revelatory, but weak overall not a lot of details, misleading, neglects a lot, you should read another book on this if you just read this one
