Rustic Moment is the third in the Rustic series. It technically works as a standalone, but it’s more closely tied to the second book than the second was to the first. As we get to see the first time Grant and Dave meet in Rustic Memory, it definitely adds to the story having read the one that comes before. Since I’ve enjoyed every book in this series, I can recommend reading them all in order. But if you want to just start here, you won’t be missing anything important.
Starr continues to give us lovely, consistent characters who feel real and relatable. This book is more MC-centric, and there is very little in the way of supporting characters. But Grant and Dave are so well drawn that they have no problem carrying the book to the end. I really liked being on this journey with them. The story is low on the angst meter, with just enough heavy emotion to give it heft. It worked really well for the most part.
Dave was a laidback guy, but he was no slouch. His passion for his job was wonderful to see, and I liked watching that translate to other areas of his life. He was a nice mix of passion and easy going, and the balance was really well done. Dave was my favorite of the two characters, because he was so solid. I just adored him from start to finish. I would have liked to understand his motivations a bit more, but he was such a go with the flow kind of guy that I had no problem following along on his journey. I loved the way he reacted to, cared for, and lusted after Grant. Their chemistry sparked, and they fit together so well.

3 stars to Rustic Moment ~ this book just didn't do it for me
This was a romantic story book 3 in Author Nic Starr's Rustic Series. Let me start by saying I really wanted to like this story. I think it started out good but then it just fell apart and was lacking too much to create a vivid picture. We had a cast, setting, theme.. But it was like the story arc just fell flat and the conflict.. Well it was lacking.
The MC in this story are Grant and Dave who take turns telling us this story of how the fell in love. Grant is still trying to figure out his life after his business partner and boyfriend had an affair and essentially left a Grant to pick up the pieces of his life, home, and business. Living in Melbourne and working as an interior designer, Grant has always been concerned with appearances and what others think -- he has to play the schmoozing game so much it becomes second nature. While on holiday to visit his friends Grant sees Dave. Dave mentions he may be moving to Melbourne for work, and Grant offers up a room to stay should he ever make the move. Next thing we know Dave is moving to Melbourne and in with Dave. These two have an attraction to each other and they feel comfortable with each other -- so it's only natural that their relationship would go from friends to more, right? I mean convenient and all -- why not? I never really felt that longing and intense desire that characters in love will have, this was almost a relationship built in the premise of "you're here, I'm here and neither of us want to be alone" ~ maybe I missed the chemistry between the two some how?
I really had trouble following all the jumps in this story and the way the characters just moved from just meeting each other, to acquaintances, to housemates, to lovers..it was like a lot of back story was missing. When I read a story I want to learn about the characters, I like the angst, I want a real conflict..not something that doesn't make sense. The conflict in this story was over the sale of a house..these two were not even officially a couple, so who is to say they had to share details like that? Again, didn't make sense.
I did like the characters and I think the beginning of a really great story is written it needs some fluffing up and some more back story added and it would be a solid story. Right now I can't give more than 3 stars ~

This was an excellent series and I am so sorry to see it end. How I wish there were more stories about these guys. I have really enjoyed the characterizations and deep descriptions found in each of these the three books! I certainly will be looking for more books written by Nic Starr

Wow, this book surprised me! This series started out fabulously sweet and romantic, progressed to fabulously emotional, sweet and romantic, and now we have sweet, romantic, emotional, gritty, distressing, uplifting, and still that wonderfully satisfying 'love conquers all' that this author does so well.
There is an instant attraction between the MCs, and the characters spend the majority of the book together, enabling them to really build the connection and intimacy between them, but.....David and Grant have to fight for their relationship, battling and overcoming their pasts in order to have a future together.
It's another wonderful book with everything I want from a good romance novel. Great, descriptive writing, beautifully written, engaging characters, a little angst and drama, some incredibly warm and tender moments, extremely sensual sex scenes, and a long lasting, overwhelming love.
Loved it, loved it, loved it! I can't recommend this series highly enough!

Old Memories Replaced With New Ones
Grant doesn't like to look into the past because he has few good memories. He's in the process of replacing them with one's with Dave. A former business partner, a horrible family and a disreputable Ex all cause him to doubt his self worth. Looking at his life and his accomplishments, in closer reflection, provides him with the courage to start again.

A Great Read.
Not as sweet a romance as p previous books in this series, because Giant's backstory is a gritty one and he is still going through some tough times. Having a strapping country lad by your side has got to make things easier, yes?!

For those readers who are acquainted with the Rustic series, the names Dave and Grant will be familiar to you. We met both men as secondary characters in Rustic Memory, and it was obvious in that book that these two men would end up with their own story. Having said that, this book can easily be read as a standalone, and if you were looking to sample just one Nic Starr book, then I’d urge you towards this one. I’ve read most of what this author has released, and I’m fairly certain that this is my favourite book she has written to date. In my opinion, taking her once common novella length stories and lengthening them, has really allowed Ms. Starr to show how well she can develop a character.
And what a character Grant is! Material possessions mean a lot to Grant, and to the people in Grant’s life. Finding out that his boyfriend was cheating on him has cost him more than just his pride, it’s cost a whole lot of money, and perhaps his business and home too. Needing the comfort of the only person who genuinely cares for him, Grant runs off to the country to visit his best friend Ty (Rustic #2) and once again meets Ty’s new friends, one of whom is Dave Monroe.
Ok, so maybe I peeked at some other reviews of this book, which I totally shouldn’t do, but now I kind of feel the need to extol the virtues of Grant. I get Grant, Grant is pretty much me. Stuff is awesome, expensive stuff is better, and if you threaten to take my stuff away there will be tears and tantrums. Yeah, I know. Not exactly healthy or mature, but there you have it. To me, Grant was very real. But while I would cry and rage, as I said, Grant just keeps fighting and trying, and eventually he has the sense to realize that he’s fighting for the wrong reasons. Dave plays a big part in making him realize that, but Grant also has to sort some of it out himself. I think the author did a great job of working her characters with and against each other (and that was totally not meant to sound sexual!) to get the best out of both of them.
I loved Dave and Grant together, right from the get go. They have remarkable chemistry between them, even when they’re simply friends, and I really enjoyed the build up to actually getting into bed together. Nothing about their forming relationship felt off pace to me – there was no too fast or too slow – in my opinion, the author absolutely nailed these men. Their reactions made sense, their flaws were explored and their insecurities were poked at perfectly.
Although Rustic Moment does take us out to the country, for the most part the story is set in Melbourne, and although I have definitely enjoyed the country town setting, I was wondering at the beginning of the book just how Grant would fit in back in Armidale. I was glad that the author didn’t feel the need to force her characters into a setting that wasn’t right, just to suit the series.
This third book was easily my favourite of the series and I can’t wait to see where the author might take us next. One thing is certain, Nic Starr’s writing gets better with each new release.

I didn’t have much luck with that search…. what’s up with that? I needed some GIFs dammit!
In Rustic Memory, Ty’s best friend, Grant, came to visit him after he found out his boyfriend had been cheating on him with his business partner.There he meet Mac’s best friend, Dave.
We all know that phrase and we all thought that had happened with Grant and Dave. But did it? And is a rebound really the best way to start a new relationship?
One thing I’m loving with the Rustic Series is that this Aussie men have suffered through some tough situations, but despite all of that they have this sense of hope, that is ever-present and weathers even the worst of cases. See, Nic Starr puts you through the wringer with their past, but what you can expect from reading this series is that second and third chances are always there, you just have to accept them and follow your heart. In the end, it’s all up to you.
When Ty was going through his ups and downs with with Mac, Grant was there to help him with some amazing advice. And even though he had just found out he had been cheated on he still believe love would come to him. But when it does, will he be open to it?
Once upon a time, I didn’t really see friendships develop between the love interest in novels and I think I just had to ask, because it is being delivered left and right.
“Things sure are complicated.”
“You can say that again.”

“Idiot.”
Grant’s business isn’t doing all that good, and that hits him hard. He’s always placed the value of things as a meaning of success, and Dave is here to show him that something who is in a home values more than how big or pretty a house is. They both show each other that although you might look different and come from different worlds, you can still make something good.
“A house is just a house.” Dave’s smile was bright, his eyes soft and full of love. “It’s the people inside who make it a home.”
I wish it had been a tad longer. And for some reason I just expected Dave to give Grant some self-defense lessons because poor guy had way too many people trying to harass him. #GiveGrantselfdenfenselessons
“You don’t have to face all this by yourself, Grant. I’m not saying you can’t stand up for yourself, because I’ve seen you do it, but you don’t have to do it alone.”
With all this Aussie authors I might just have to move over there, but for now I’ll settle with reading about Aussie men falling in love. I can’t wait to see who’s next and how my heart will break, because damn do this guy have some tragic pasts.

The whole Rustic series is to die for. I read the first two fell in love with them. Rustic Moment is the third book in Nic Starr’s Rustic series, and I don’t know what to do this series just keeps getting better and better. I love the way the Dave and Grant relationship did a slow build. The characters had so much action going on between them. The time they spend together was great. The relationship was well developed. It wasn’t that I see you and I fall head over heels in love. Nic also entwined the characters from the previous stories into this book. It was nice catching up with them.
Dave and Grant both had a past with a few issues that they need sorting before they could move on. They personality was so very different but they did have work in common. Their love for interior design. You can say Dave had creative hand while Grant uses his brain to design and organize the work. When they come together they are one in the same and somehow they click.
Grant is a workaholic thinking the way to show success is by material gains. His business is struggling because his low down dirty business partner, Douglas, had stolen from the company. And let not forget Grant’s ex-boyfriend John who did the unthinkable. Not only is Grant having problems with his business, his personal life isn’t going so well either. That is until Dave arrives in Melbourne. Dave came into Grant life and helped with the unnecessary stress that his family and asshole of a brother put him through. Even his so called friends don’t have a loyal bone in their body.
I would say Dave and Grant were made for each other. They were matched together perfectly. I can honestly say that in this story opposite do attract. I love how they started out as friends and let it build into more. Yes, there’s sexual attraction from the beginning and their love rapidly grows as they spend time together. But both are a little reluctant to start a relationship. Which I think helped the relationship grow. They learned each other like and dislike, they learn to love each other strengths and weakness. They couldn’t ask for a better person to be in a relationship with. Their love was so genuine and unconditional. They were so supportive and understanding one another. Of course nothing starts out that way. True love is when you go through the trails, mistrust, and misunderstands and still stay to work it out
No, this book wasn’t all sunshine and roses. It had it fair share of angst, mainly from outside characters. The positive is that Nic has a way with words, and his writing is so beautiful that you see pass all the angst. I loved it from start to finish. I gave this book 4 lovely stars.

Rustic Moment is book 3 of the Rustic Series by Nic Starr. You could certainly read this as a standalone but since many of the characters are from previous stories, you will have a much better understanding of the book if you read them all in order.
This story takes place in Melbourn rather than the smaller town that the previous ones were set in. Grant and Dave are casual acquaintances through a few mutual friends. Grant is from Melbourn and when Dave ends up in the area for work, he is invited to be a guest in Grant’s home for a while. They have a wonderfully realistic development of friendship between them with quite a bit of chemistry that they act on slowly. These are real guys with real emotions, hangups, social lives and financial issues. It is the financial issues that seem to be causing Grant the most angst.
Grant was screwed over royally by his ex boyfriend who happens to be his ex business partner. He is emotionally fragile, a horrible communicator, a bit of a workaholic and completely broke. He is struggling to keep the company going and it is taking its toll on his emotional well-being. I thought he was a bit of a jerk in the beginning, honestly, and his snobbery and worry about social image just turned me off. I understand it was a starting point for the story and his character but still didn’t really like him.
Dave is a good guy and incredibly tolerant. Honestly, he has the patience of a saint for putting up with the workaholic poor communicator that he is living with. He wants to help. He feels the need to protect and care for Grant but Grant is a bit prickly about it. I definitely liked Dave’s character more than I did Grants’.
After a few bouts of miscommunication, some guidance from friends and a few rather life altering decisions, these two guys do get their happily ever after. It just takes them a while to get there. And, I will say I didn’t like certain things about the ending of the book. I won’t say what or you will know what happens but they do not end up where I wanted these guys to end up.
Overall, Rustic Moment by Nic Starr is a nice romance between two realistic guys who fall in love despite their horrible lack of communication. I thought some of the arguments between them seemed a little forced to create additional drama but it wasn’t over the top.

Rustic Moment, the third book in Nic Starr’s Rustic Series, takes place in Melbourne, a nice change of setting from the first two books which were set in and around Armidale, a small Australian town in New South Wales.
Ty’s good friend Grant Parnell invites Armidale native Dave Monroe to stay with him in Melbourne while Dave works a short-term construction job in the area. Dave – six foot two inches of Aussie country boy, tanned and muscled and a little bit wild. Close-cropped dark hair, a strong jaw with a five o’clock shadow and a smile that knocked Grant for six – shakes up Grant’s world, for the better. Grant is recovering from betrayal on a personal and professional level – his (ex-)boyfriend John dumped him for Douglas, his (ex-)business partner who was stealing money from their business.
Dave and Grant settle into an easy friendship, but there is a strong undercurrent of attraction between the two men. And once they act upon that attraction, they burn up the sheets. As Grant ponders:
The story moves along at a good clip and keeps us focused on Grant and Dave, although I thought Grant’s ex-John makes one too many appearances (we get it – he’s annoying and Grant is so much better with Dave). There was also some appalling communication issues between the main MCs which seemed unnecessary other than to fuel the plot a bit more, but these are minor things in the long run. The ending was very satisfactory, and Rustic Memory is a good solid read in the Rustic series.

Three books in a row and now that I've finished the series--because this third book did feel like the end even though I'm sort of wishing and hoping that maybe it isn't--I've officially become a fan of Nic Starr's. Her Rustic series had that perfect balance of heat and heart, weaving together three stories, each one that can stand proudly one their own but together they're even all the more enticing and engaging. Rustic Moment ends (again, I'm just assuming here) the trilogy on just the right note, with a story about finding love and acceptance within yourself and with one who loves and accepts you as you were, are, and may be.
They may not be as different as one may think them to be upon first sight, and there's no denying that they're perfectly matched in all things intimate, but when the outside world rears its ugly head, the differences become even more pronounced and far more difficult to pretend they don't exist. Grant wants the world to see a certain version of himself and the life he's created, but all Dave wants is the Grant he sees when it's just the two of them, or the Grant that allows himself to relax and enjoy time with their real friends. Can Dave and Grant find some middle ground in order for them to now share their lives together?
The prologue in the story sets the stage in explaining why one of our main characters--I won't say who but it won't be difficult for you to figure out which one--is the way he is. This is a story about how overcoming the past isn't simply about becoming successful; getting over the past involves truly being free of those shackles that keep us bound to the hurtful memories. It's about taking those painful events and using them as motivation to move beyond and then letting them go. Dave and Grant teach each other to value the person they are today and that they are no longer alone in the world. Rustic Moment receives five stars. ♥

I have read three books and novella by Nic Starr so far and each one was exceptional. I am a reader who tends to reread books that I truly enjoy. I have read the novella at least four times and anticipate the same with the rustic series. I would recommend everything I have read by Nic Starr without exception to other avid mm romance readers, so enjoy!

I was very excited to read Grant and Dave’s story, after we meet Grant in Rustic Memory and learn about everything he is dealing with I was really looking forward to seeing him get his HEA!
Grant is dealing with the fallout from his cheating ex and lying, stealing former business partner, he’s trying to pick up the pieces and put his life back together. Dave is making a move from his small Australian town to Melbourne for work and will be staying with Grant temporarily.
The two become easy friends, enjoying dinners at home and just hanging out together, despite being pretty opposite. Status is important to Grant, he has a reputation to protect and is well put together while Dave is a hardworking, laid back more salt of the earth type of guy. I really loved watching these two together, especially as Grant started figuring out how much Dave really meant to him and what’s really important in life.
I really got sucked into this story, I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. Dave is such a wonderful guy with an amazing heart. I loved his support for Grant, even when Grant was being a bit of a jerk, he’s just the best type of guy. These two seemed to bring out the best in each other and I was rooting for them the whole time.
Rustic Moment is a great addition to this series and just like in the previous books, these two captured my heart! I loved their journey together and how their story progressed. I would highly recommend this whole series and can’t wait for more from Nic Starr.

Grant is having a hard time with life. His business partner and his boyfriend cheated on him, his business is bearing the brunt of that, and Grant feels like he is floundering under the stress of it all. Enter Dave from Armidale. Laid back, priorities set straight, and the perfect foil for Grant.
Grant comes across as cold and materialistic in places, but that does just make the scenes with Dave seem even more heart-warming! Grant has his past which is about to bite him in the behind, but he doesn't have to face it alone anymore.
I did feel like this book was more about Grant and his weaknesses, rather than an equal partnership with Dave, but I still can't imagine it any other way. This way certainly shows how Dave and Grant balance each other out.
The one thing I will say is that the ending seemed a bit rushed with this book. With the first two, you knew the ending was coming and the epilogue left you with a feeling of satisfaction. With this one, it just seemed to... stop!
Even with that though, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Nic Starr has such a lovely way with words, her prose is simple yet elegant and she creates beautiful characters that stick with you... I stumbled onto the rustic series by accident but after now having read all 3 I would say that it is a favourite series of mine, they're so quintessentially Aussie which I just love, they aren't full of angst, very easily read and extreeeeemely sexy.
Rustic Moment is my favourite of all 3 books, I loved the first book the most until I read this, the relationship between Grant and Dave is so realistic and genuine, sometimes with m/m romance it's all so fake but not when you have Nic Starr writing the characters, she's a true pro. She really knows how to write a nice character, all of her leading men are nice guys which is refreshing because let's face it, in the gay world not a lot of guys are nice, when reading her books I always think " I want a guy like that". Perhaps I should move to Melbourne or Armidale and try my luck, haha.
Hands down one of my favourite set of books that I've ever read, I shall definitely cherish them for years to come. I'm going to look at what else Nic has to offer and hopefully I'll find some other winners. P.S I hope she writes a book 4... ;)

Wonderful character driven story. Grant is dealing with some hard blows from life. His ex partner in both business and life cheated on him and is sending his business into ruin. He's dealing with a lot of crap from all angles, so goes to visit Ty (from book 2) in Armidale. There he meets Dave. They click quickly, and Grant offers Dave a place to stay when he comes to Melbourne for work. There is an attraction between them that gets harder and harder to ignore, even though Grant is still dealing with the fallout of what happened with his ex. While they are opposite in a lot of ways, they compliment each other so well, and Dave is exactly what Grant needs, if he'd just open his eyes and see what's right in front of him.
This is a lower angst tale than book two, but still had plenty of angst and drama to go around. The characters really make the story, and Nic Starr has a gift for character development to be sure. Even when you want to smack them, you care about them, and that comes down to her ability to make them feel real to you.

Thank Goodness for Dave
The previous books in this series were strong because both MCs were fully developed, if slightly flawed, people. In this one, Big, strong, bald hunk Dave is the one who is over-the-top in his humanity and affection. Grant (on the cover). on the other hand, is supposed to be the protagonist, but is annoying.
That is it in a nutshell. Grant is too concerned with his ex-boyfriend, his ex-partner, his failing business, his reluctance to commit to anything other than rescuing himself, to be the kind of character you root for. Instead, you root for Dave, who is besotted from the start with the slimmer, prettier and somewhat distracted Grant, even though you suspect he doesn't deserve him.
I am wondering if this is the end of the "Rustic" series. If it is, it's not a bad ending because it sort of wraps up a few chapters in the lives of young gay men in today's Australia. If it's not, I will get the next one, too, though I cannot imagine whom it will concern from the other characters that were introduced in this one.

Let me first start with the cover model…I’m not a big fan of blondes but he is gorgeous and fits Grant to a ‘T’!
I was looking forward to this story because Grant’s situation intrigued me. I was surprised to see what he went through as a kid. I was also surprised that I had a hard time liking him at times in this book. I wasn’t thrilled with the way he treated Dave in a couple of instances. I also didn’t care for the way he went back and forth so much with Dave and his feelings. I understood why he clung to material things and acted as snobbish as he did but I didn’t care for it.
I pretty much loved Dave. He’s laid back and really sweet. He’s not only a good balance for Grant but great emotional support for him too.
The ending was pretty perfect for them.

Grant is Tyler’s best friend and on one of his trips to Ty’s hometown he met Dave.
Dave seems to be genuinely interested to form a friendship with Grant, but Grant is on the defensive.
When circumstances put them together, they bond and formed a friendship.
What started as a friendship and with the potential of becoming more is sometimes interrupted by Grant’s feelings of insecurity.
Dave is the ideal person to make him understand how valuable he is as a human being.
I love their friends becoming a sounding board to their feelings …

V is for Victory!
Nic Starr produces quality work and I wasn't disappointed in this latest offering in the Rustic series. I've read all three books, but this is my favorite work of the series. I fell in love with Dave instantly, and I finally grew to like Grant by the end of the story. I loved being transported to Australia, and living vicariously through Nic's words. Melbourne is definitely on my bucket list of places to visit.

A lovely third installment of the Rustic Series by Nic Starr. Continuing the stream of related stories this about Grant and Dave. An unlikely pair who house share when Dave moves to Melbourne. What follows is a little surprising a bit steamy and a lot emotional. Read it, you will enjoy!

I was going to give this two stars but the ending redeemed it somewhat. There is a warning in the preface that's longer than the content it warns about (an incident that occurs in the distant past to a character not even part of the story).
There's no warning about the violence, despair, and deceit that hangs over most of the book. The reader waits with dread for a threat that's issued in the middle of the book and only resurfaces near the end.
Keep your dictionary handy as there are numerous unfamiliar Australian phrases. You'll never guess how they use "bench" and "tray" or what "stickybeak" means (no, it's not a bird).
Typo: sentence fragment: "And?" The deep voice retorted,...

I read all of this series one straight after the other and I’m so glad that I did. I’ve always liked series that keep the past characters intertwined into each story. Dave and Grant have a story to tell, Grant with his fastidious nature and Dave with his laid back personality. Watching (or should I say reading?) them fall in love was a slow burn, but a rewarding ending for them both.
