When Nell Moreno returns to her small hometown after a lengthy absence, she's not too surprised no one recognizes her, she's certainly not the overweight teenager she used to be. While hiding her true identity, Nell "wins" hunky fireman, Elijah Knight, at a charity auction and she's determined to give the one-time bully a little payback for the misery he caused her when they were teens. However, over the next few weeks she discovers he's changed a lot too and as they fall in love, Nell is left with the dilemma of how to admit she's lied to him about who she really is.

From the first page to the last, I was entranced.

When fashion designer, Nell, "wins" one of her tormentors in high school in a fundraiser, she has no intention of revealing who she is. Elijah doesn't recognize the trim and sexy woman as the overweight Penny he mocked in youthful ignorance.

He's a different man now, a volunteer firefighter, the divorced father of two, and a gifted woodworker. He falls for Nell, hard and fast. Nell finds herself in a precarious situation. She falls for Elijah and is afraid what will happen if he finds out who she really is. Will he still find her attractive, and will he be furious with her deception?

Both of these characters were so realistic, it was easy to fall in love with them. Thank goodness I knew they HAD to have their happily ever after, because the conflict and tension were so superbly written, I was afraid Nell and Elijah might not end up together. The fast pace, brilliant dialogue, and honest emotions Nell and Elijah share kept me turning the pages long into the night.

Going, Going, Gone is truly one of the best books I've had the privilege of reading this summer, even if I did blush a time or two or three!

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

Can't put it down.

How many wish you could go back to your high school and no one would recognize you? Well the heroine, Nell Moreino, gets to do the next best thing when returning to her hometown. Attending a fund raiser at the high school gym, she is not recognized, even when she puts in the highest bid for the hunky town fire chief. Saying it’s really for a good cause, she tries to ignore the chemistry that has been there for her since high school.

Nell has returned to help her sister close their family home, not envisioning what the small town she ran from had in store for her - Eli Knight, the high school stud and town fire chief. Now that she has purchased him, she uses him for day labor fixing up her mother’s house. Unfortunately for Nell, Eli plans to get to know this woman whom he thinks is from out of town, never realizing she is the one his group made fun of in high school.

Even with the past persecutions meted out by Eli and Nell’s current lie of being from out of town, they find a lasting love the second time around.

This is a quick read for in front of the fireplace on a cold winter night. Just be sure you start early or don't have to go to work the next day. This is a story you can't put down.

IF I could turn back time:

This was a super fun quick read! I WAS the chubby girl (for real) in high school who lost weight and went back to her 5 year reunion thin and loved the looks I got from former classmates who made fun of me! I wanted to do exactly what Nell did...get with the hottest guy who never gave me a second look and so I absolutely LOVED and understood why she did what she did. It was a harmless deception in my opinion and everyone got what they wanted/needed out of the situation. There is plenty of romance, but also some mystery and back-stabbing co-workers thrown into the mix (as well as a jealous EX) but it is a fun ride. Enjoy!

I loved this story. ♥

Sparks start flying at a charity auction where Nell ‘buys’ hunky fireman, Eli for revenge. But she soon finds out this isn’t the same boy that tormented her in high school. Then again she’s not the same girl she was either. Hiding under a bit of deception, passionate fires burn so hot even a well trained firefighter soon find himself out of control.

There were lots of twists and turns in this story, which included a wonderful cast of characters. Hibert weaves high school angst, steamy adult passions, big city chic, and small town appeal into a fun filled roller coaster ride.

This is one of those rare gems I will read again.

Nell instincts kicked in & before she thought she made an impulsive decision that was going to affect her & Eli' s future. It's a true romance but with consequences. This is a really good read. Hot & steamy, great characters, really positive story-line & sub-plots that run beautifully along side. Completely surprising - you won't be disappointed.
