This book was really 2.5 rounded up to 3. I kind of knew that I would have problems at the beginning of the book when Molly, a teacher, agree to steal a locket for someone that she just met. I kept reading and the story became more and more convoluted with each chapter. By the last chapter I just didn't care who committed the murders or why. I will not read any more in this series. However, full disclosure, I did get it free for my Kindle.
I usually enjoy their books, but the beginning circumstances just demand too much of the reader. I simply could not believe the main character would agree to go into someone's home and steal an expensive heirloom for someone she had just met. Nor could I stretch credulity to the point that I'd believe that she wouldn't be immediately thrown in jail the second said heirloom was found in her possession. In fact, the actions of the two police officers are unbelievable as well. It really took away from the story. That said, I did want to find out who did it. Too bad getting to the conclusion was more of a chore than a pleasure.
The storyline was just too hard to believe. A teacher agrees to steal a locket for someone she just met. When a murder occurs, she commits illegal acts and harasses people with improper questions until they are infuriated with her. Eventually, without any evidence, she reveals a long, convoluted solution to the murder which everyone assumes is true. I found it difficult to finish reading this book.
Molly Wright is introduced to Catherine Stein by the school's headmaster, Mr. Henderson. She is introduced as being new in town and checking out the schools. After class, Molly and Catherine go to the lunch room to chat. They have some idle talk about the school and the area, when the subject turns to Mulberry House and its occupants. Catherine tells Molly that Gerald Dove, the son of the wealthiest family in town, had stolen a gold locket that Catherine says was a family heirloom.
On a visit to Mulberry House, Molly obtains the locket without getting caught. On closer inspection of the locket, Molly notices an inscription that makes her question Catherine's claim. When she goes to confront Catherine, she finds that Catherine was in reality Virginia Dove and Virginia Dove is dead.
Why did Virginia use a fake name when she met Molly? Why lie about the locket? Who killed Virginia and why?
This is a good story, but has several grammatical errors throughout and has very long chapters, which slows your reading.
A fun quick read with lots of twists and turns of who done it. Molly is accidentally pulled into a murder mystery when she is approached by a woman about a stolen necklace. Molly recovers the necklace but upon trying to return it she discovers the woman is dead. Molly is determined to find out who the real killer is. I look forward to reading more by this author.
This was complicated. More complicated than necessary for a cozy mystery. When it came to the big reveal about who dunnit it took so long to get all the pieces in a row I was past caring.
Pretty good easy reading. It took me some time to get into but I read on and finished it. Thanks Mrs Dr Winters If you like clean cozy mysteries , read this .
A neatly tied up with a bow storyline. It sure is a cosy read of a school teacher turning into an accidental amateur sleuth. Just like Agatha Christie's crime stories that keeps a very important part missing, this one does pretty much the same. You get a good mix of mystery, a budding love story and funny sarcasm. Too good and easy a reasoning for the crime committed with everything falling into place at the end that just might make you wonder at the amateurish smartness of the school teacher and question the authority of the cops. Besides that it's an enjoyable read and I wouldn't mind following up on more of this Authors other series.
Will keep this review short. If you like who is the murder books you need to read this one! It evolves around Mulberry House & the Dove family. Also a math teacher, Molly Wright who wants the correct murder in jail. Too many characters to list, action, danger and more!
