There’s three things I love: my crew, my ship, and sinking my torpedo.
I wanted to serve my country for life, but then my ship blew up. Now I’m stuck on indefinite shore leave, holed up in my hometown with no crew, no ship, and definitely no women.
Until, after five years, she walks back into my life .
Tabitha Peterson.
Shabby Tabby, the beautiful girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She didn't have money for fancy clothes, but Tabitha still caught every eye in a hundred mile radius - especially mine. Back then, I’d have done anything to catch her - with zero luck.
I'd always wondered where she ended up.
Now I know - because she’s in my house, the caregiver sent to tend to me. I’m broken, maybe forever, but she’s more tempting than ever, with her crazy curves and big, beautiful eyes.
I go from being bored stiff to having the challenge of my life.
I have two missions: learn to walk again, and get Tabby where I've wanted her all this time. In my arms and in my bed.
We can do it lying, sitting, or standing on one leg - I don’t need both legs to show her a good time. I just want to tear her walls down as I tear her clothes off.
When they fall, I’m not prepared for what comes next. How badly she's been hurt… or how badly I want to protect her.
But I'll risk everything to make her mine, for good.

Joanna Blake loves good old fashioned romance, men who open doors and work with their hands. Hot Blooded Heroes is a series of sizzling stories about True Blue American men and the women who love them. She's thrilled to be collaborating with Pincushion Press on her new series! Come along for the ride! XoX, Joanna *********
I liked both MC's. I read more about the Hero's ways in the synopsis than I did the actual book. At no point did he ever come across as a manwhore and I didn't have to read about any of his past conquest. He came off as a genuinely nice guy. I also liked the heroine. She was strong and didn't let what people said or thought about her get her down.
However, I couldn't give it five stars because I got tired of how insecure the heroine was at times and the misunderstanding that caused the short separation was just stupid. The Hero never believed what everyone was saying about the heroine until he was dating/sleeping with her so that made no sense to me. I could have understood him getting jealous and upset that they talked about her they way they did (and he did...in one scene he confronted a guy who hit on her and spoke to her in a nasty way) but the fact that he all of a sudden believed what was said was mind boggling.
I put in on hold. I'm not in the mood today for a hero who calls his penis beautiful *cough cough* Another virgin heroine and another non-virgin hero... Maybe it would be a completely unique story... *cough cough*, well then it would be my loss...
"Really" is the word that kept coming to mind while reading this book to the point I thought am I Really going to continue to read this story? When the answer was a firm "no" it became a DNF for me.
Is this Really going to be yet another romance book with a manwhore and a 21 plus year old virgin where she never got over him? The added bonus here was that they knew each other throughout grade school and high school and so she was pining for him for a long time. Gabe supposedly wanted Tabby as much as she wanted him but it took him until senior year to take a short break from his screwing around to ask her out. Gabe asked her out with the intent of getting her into the backseat of his car to a screw her and optimistically cleaned it right before asking. Such a classy guy. When Tabby said no it was back to business as usually with OW. Tabby on the other hand was pure as the driven snow because no one could live up to Gabe, her crush, who she did not even date. Was she Really that much of a pathetic doormat that she easily gave into him after meeting him again?
Did this immature player Really name his penis and did the author Really make his penis' name the book title? Sadly yes and yes.
Are the hero and heroine Really that lacking in chemistry and sexy times?
After not even having good sex scenes to read, I Really didn't give a fig about the characters and their story and it felt Really Really Really good to stop wasting my time reading this book.
▶A second-chance romance. Both graduated HS and went in diff. directions. They were celibate in separation.
⏺Man-whore H- He liked the h in HS too. But screws OW because, well..... who knows?.... men and the mystery of their pee-pees.... ⏺He asked her out, SO HE COULD BANG HER. ⏺She said NO. ⏺Back to screwing OW.
⏺Virgin h. ⏺Pines for H till she turns 21. ⏺She saw him with OW in HS.
⏺After graduation, H is celibate though, when they both cross paths again 3-4 yrs later after HS. ⏺Then romancing and shit begins. 🅾h was virgin.
This is a beautiful 2nd chance romance story that will make you root for both hero and heroine. Gabe Jackson & Tabitha Peterson both had a crush on each other in high school but they something happened to prevent the Tabby from allowing a relationship to proceed. Move Forward 5 years and Gabe ends up coming home –he was injured on the job (his job is military –Navy) and he has come home to recover. Tabitha is sent to help a patient as his home health caregiver and guess who her patient is? Gabe. Sparks are still there yet she is still unsure about him as she was 5 years ago but Gabe still has feelings for this sassy and sweet lady and is willing to do whatever he needs to do to get her to notice him and give him a chance. Tabby being his nurse has to be around him and she starts to realize as she is taking care of him maybe she didn’t know who he really was all those years ago. I loved the sparks, the chemistry and the passion this story has, how alpha Gabe was plus how independent and sassy Tabby is- the past and present come together perfectly to showcase how far they both have come plus the underlying message this story has which is never job a book by its “cover”. The plot was fantastic and the ending was great. I cannot wait what this author has next coming out.
My Rating: 4.7 stars ***** "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
Did not really care for this one. I think I was probably on a bit of a high from the last book--Hot Shot--which was soooo enjoyable for me, perhaps my expectations for Torpedo were too high. I didn't care for the characters in Torpedo. It annoyed me how much of a push over and a doormat Tabby was, particularly when she was described a couple times in the book as a "tough girl". Just because she didn't sleep with half the school like the town rumored (because of her Marilyn Monroe-esque physique) doesn't mean she was a "tough girl". She just wasn't a tramp. I respected that about her but still she was a bit of a doormat otherwise. I think a "tough girl" would have had snappy comebacks and a mean right hook for those men in the town that felt like her curvy body gave them free reign to make nasty comments and play grab ass with her girly bits. And then there's Gabe. I wanted to like him, truly. He just seemed like a whiny little man-child to me, one whose priority the entire time seemed to be how many times he could drop his "Torpedo". I feel like this was supposed to endear him to the readers but it was just "meh" for me. I'll still give keep giving Ms. Blake's books a chance though because I know she has other writing in her as good as Hot Shot and Bro', this one just wasn't it for me.
The story between Gabe and Tabby that was written was very good and I enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect and I had a couple issues with it, but I felt with this particular story that my enjoyment came in cycles. Like in the very beginning I was really digging it then they got together and suddenly it felt rushed and less enjoyable and dragged at times then they split then the story got good and interesting again then they got together again, which was good but kind of rushed. There was not a lot of groveling going on and Gabe needed to grovel more especially after how he treated her that lead to their break up. So I was definitely on a ride with this one with many ebbs and flows along the way.
I enjoyed the set up and tension between these two from the beginning. There was lots of lovely angst and push and pull. The situation that they were put in just screamed sexual tension, and it was so good. I'll admit that I expected it to be more drawn out a bit more from her first taking care of him after his accident to when they first got together. I even expected it to last most of the book until they finally came together in the end. I would have liked the story to have taken that path honestly because it would have been more angst ridden and just more intense. Since they got together earlier than expected, it kind of felt rushed, and all that was between them was the physical and nothing more.
Speaking of physical side, that was just beyond sexy. They had a lot of hot chemistry going on. They practically melted the pages. They really had a very intense physical connection, and I loved seeing it all play out, and it played out lot. That was what the majority of their relationship was about.
Even though I did have some pacing issues, I really enjoyed the pace in the beginning. There was steady build up as they became closer and closer while he was healing and her taking care of him. They were some of the hotter scenes in the book like the massage scene. That scene was so freaking sexy, I could feel all their passion and tension in that one scene. I wish there were more of those scenes in there because they were just so satisfying to me. I loved their first kiss while she was sitting on his lap while he was in his wheelchair. Again such a good and sensual scene. The emotions really poured off of them at that very moment. There were just a lot of great moments between them in the beginning.
A thing bothered me about this story was how quick Gabe was to believe some man child's word about Tabby, getting sucked into the rumors surrounding her reputation. A reputation that was nothing but lies and had been since high school? I don't get how he could have believed it. It was like he didn't know her at all. And the kicker was that once he had this set in his mind, he treated horribly and not like someone who claimed to care about her. He treated like a teams like her made up reputation dictated. He used her to get off basically, and that just didn't sit right with me at all. It changed view on Gabe, who I was loving. Wasn't loving him from that point on. If he groveled like I stated above then maybe I could have forgiven him, but as that was not the case it was hard to root for him. I think she forgave him too easily.
Also I felt that the book a little short, it had been a theme I've been noticing since reading e-books. With this story it felt rushed at parts but at other parts the pacing was good. Another theme that I have noticed since reading these e-book is a focus more on the physical side of a relationship instead of having a balance between the physical and the emotional with this story being no exception. It wasn't bad thing, but I prefer my romances to be more well rounded. I want both sides of the romance. Again it's probably the format that I have yet to get to use to, but I still hope for both. Because the physical side kind takes over the rest, and it kind of is hard to believe that the characters are in love when they are just spending time between the sheets.
It was kind of different with Gabe and Tabby because they did spend time together before going to bed, but the once they did that kind of became the focus. I liked them getting to know one another and seeing that side of their relationship. That part was really good so was physical but for me there was a disconnect because I just wasn't feeling that deep raw love that I come to expect from a romance.
The beginning touched me more than second half, and I did tear up at certain moments. I wished that carried through the whole journey of the book because I loved the first half. It had the perfect blend of pacing and development and angst that I really enjoy from a romance then it kind of spurted a little bit when they got together then picked back up at the breakup then kind of jutted to a stop with their reunion. I think the reason being that so much was just focused on the physical that nothing else was explored unlike in the beginning it was. I wanted more exploration and development on an emotional level. Yeah, I was told they loved each other, but I didn't feel it in my heart of hearts. I felt more strong physical connection more than anything else, which not necessarily a bad thing, but it made their relationship not as complete as I would have liked. I wanted the whole ball of wax, however I did enjoy the story, which kept me glued to the pages. Lots of good angst and sexual tension definitely drove this book for me. I would definitely be interested in reading more books by this author.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
When Gabe makes a move it's hard and fast, "you heard me. I can't have you driving around in that piece of junk." He looked so smug and complacent, lying there in my bed. "And I want you to move in with me." I liked Gabe the man knew how to treat his woman right, I liked this book.
Gosh I have to be very careful with my thoughts on this book - I liked the writing style and the plot - basically this is a solid 4 star read. But something buggs me...
I am a blogger and I read tons of books and from almost the first page on I had the feeling I read that book before ... right down to the name "shabby Tabby" - so I wonder now - did this book get a new name .. new cover or anything because I do not have a review for it under this name AND THIS AUTHOR ... ... so I am careful with my thoughts and leave it at 3 stars
4* Tabitha (Shabby tabby) was a true looker at school, gabe was the popular boy good looking he tried to hook up with her, was it a missed opportunity one she regrets. He left as soon as he could only to return injured she's now a part qualified nurse assigned to him. The chemistry is still there will they get together? Rumours from their childhood cause problems can they overcome them? I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Good book.
This was a cute quick read. The hero and heroine both crossed paths in high school and liked each other but life got in the way and they never really knew it completely... Now years later life puts them back together when she becomes his nurse aid after a military accident... What follows is learning to trust and love...
Really enjoyed this one, until injured, war hero, Gabe lost his mind and begin to believe those ugly lies and rumors about Tabby. Gabe knew the truth about her-what a wonderful and honest woman she is. How could he hurt her like that? Even better will Tabby be able to forgive and forget?
I loved this book. It was sweet and sexy. Didn't want to put it down. Really enjoyed both characters. They fit perfectly together and I loved that they had a history. My only kind of issue was I think Gabe got away a little to easily. He needed to beg a little more for my liking. Lol. Besides that though it was a great read. Definitely recommend this book. =)
All the tropes I hate wrapped in one book (virgins, meek heroines, possessive alpha males who call women "assets," guys who believe lies and act like assholes, treating women like kept whores, sex-means-love declarations one week after meeting, surprise pregnancy). I'm not sure why I finished it.
Oh, did I mention the tons of grammar mistakes?
I know there is an audience for this kind of book, but it isn't me.
This is a fantastic 4.5 star book. Joanna definitely knows how to keep her readers entertained and Torpedo definitely did this for me. I was hooked from the cover right up to the last page. I've not read many second chance romance books but this is one of my favorites so far. Gabe Jackson is a naval officer who ends up wounded and sent home to recover in his hometown. Tabitha "Tabby" Peterson is his aid sent to help him get better. They knew of each other in school but never really spoke as they were from different crowds and you know what high school is like. They did share the odd lingering look though. This is a wonderful story of never judge a book by it's reputation and if you want something you may have to fight for it but it's worth it to get to the end goal.
Torpedo; A Second Chance Romance by Joanna Blake Torpedo is a stand-alone novel with a guaranteed HEA and no cheating! The plot is well written and fast pace, with a lot of drama, banter, humor, great characters, steamy sex, amazing chemistry and a second chance at love for a war hero! This's the story of Gabriel "Gabe" Jackson & Tabitha "Tabby" Peterson a second chance romance, sweet and sexy, beyond hot... so how could you go wrong?!Besides it's written by Joanna Blake so definitely it's going to be an amazing story. Great Job!! Can't wait for the next book!!
1st off, I have to mention "Cockpit", if you have not read that by: Joanna, you should so check it out, I knew when I saw this cover I would fall in love with this book, the characters, HEA, had to read it asap!! Loved it. What a great read. Gabe & Tabby have great chemistry. I will be keeping Joanna in my TBR list ... she is just a great author .. I love her writing style ... fun, serious, even a few tears, tissues please, pulls at your heartstrings at times, so loved it! ( ;
This was an absolute DNF, I had to stop when he all but raped her. This started out as a pretty decent book, a bit too redundant ;but a good premise with what initially seemed like heartfelt characters. Then Gabe turned into ever vilian I've ever read. Tabitha was a girl with absolutely no self confidence who was from the wrong side of the tracks, Gabe was the home town hero who everyone liked. He always had a crush on her and the feelings were mutual. They finally get together and he is musing about forever and babies, then he pulls a Mr. Hyde and calls her a cheating whore who if she behaves may be able to earn his love back. Now let me add that she has never done anything untoward against anyone, and merely wants to move away and live a happy life with the man that she has come to love. Once she gets a full dose of CRAZY she does what any sane woman would and should do and runs in the opposite direction of him. He is enlightened regarding his extreme mistake and instead of, oh I don't know; explaining what happened and begging for forgiveness or to be ran down in the streets like he deserves. He calls in a favor from his friends in high places and hunts her down. When she refuses to let him in, again being smart as he has been swinging from one end of the crazy train to the other; he brakes down the door and forces himself on her. At this point I am completely through with this book. I will NEVER purchase anotjer book from this author and will advise my friends to do the same. Shame on the author for thinking this is what true love looks like at all, but more importantly if the author does feel that this is normal, than I greatly pity her.
So I had started this book back in February. And I really got turned off when in the very beginning Gabe is injured while in the military and when he wakes up he says something along the lines of "thank God my wonderful @ock is still there", and grips it And comments about how beautiful and big it is. And all I could think of is....really??? He was in an accident. Had bad injuries. Couldn't walk. There was an explosion, etc. I don't think that would be the first thing a military man would think of.
And so I restarted this book a few days ago. And I forced myself thru the beginning. I liked it. I really did. But there were some things Gabe would say that just made me cringe. ESPECIALLY AT THE END (of course)
And don't get me wrong I love reading sex scenes. LOVE. But there was just SOOOOO much sex. You couldn't see their relationship starting, or any love forming or chemistry between them because he was too busy just trying to get into her pants. And then once he was in her pants he never came out of said pants. And giving her about a trillion (yes I counted) orgasms.
No real story. A little misunderstanding and drama. All in all a brainless sex/love story that kept my attention and had me fanning myself a time.... or ten.
Gabe was back in his hometown, where he definitely didn't wanna be - he was recuperating after being injured while serving his country. Enter Tabitha, or 'Shabby Tabby' everyone called her - she was from the wrong side of the tracks, she got a bad name in high school, truly undeserved. She was going to nursing school, until her Grandma got sick and she came home to look after her; she was now working at a local bar trying to make enough money to go back and finish her nursing degree. She also works part time as a care giver, and wouldn't ya know it, she is now going to be looking after the needs of Gabe, her childhood crush - he felt the same about her. Now she was gorgeous and he was really having a hard time keeping his hands to himself. They talk and really get to know each other, but some misunderstandings occur and she packs up and leaves town. He finds out where she is, calling in some favours from friends - and follows her. They get their happy ending, I'm so glad, they both deserved it.
I thought I was going to love this book. The blurb seemed right up my alley. I love military romances with a wounded hero, but THIS story....... I hated it! Can you say emotionally abusive manipulative jerk? There was NO redeeming quality to Gabe at all. None!
When I started this book I was really enjoying it. I always love the wounded soldier falling for their caregiver type romances. Gabe seemed like any normal male hero in a romance, but as you start to get deeper in the book that changes. Gabe turns into the poster child for emotionally and physically abusive boyfriends. It was sickening. Especially when he chased her down when she left him. Pretty much at around 70% I had to start skimming because I just couldn't deal with the amount of crap that Tabby put up with coming from Gabe but I wanted to know how it ended. Of course Tabby forgives everything and they all live happily ever after.
Don't read this one if you're looking for a sweet romance. You wont find it here. If you like emotionally abusive alphas in your stories then go for it. This one was definitely not for me.
I really liked this story by Joanna Blake. Gabe and Tabby know each other from high school...and had a crush on each other. Nothing happened and fast forward to the present. Gabe gets hurt while in the military and comes hope to recuperate. He will need help getting around at home so his mom hires an aide....Tabby. Gabe instantly knows that Tabby is the one for him...Tabby is a bit more reserved and has a hard time believing that Gabe is sincere. I loved the chemistry between the two and how Gabe will do whatever it takes to make sure Tabby is happy and safe...even when Gabe screws up!
I highly recommend this story and I can't wait to read what this fantastic author comes out with next...well done!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Torpedo follows the characters of Gabe Jackson and Tabitha Peterson, who both secretly had crushes on one another back in high school, and is a second chance love story of sorts. When Gabe gets injured and is sent back to his mother’s home to recover five years later, he is surprised when none other the Tabitha is assigned his home care nurse. As they work closely with one another, he can’t help but think about the “one that got away”, and begins to come up with a plan to get the girl this time. As Gabe tries the woe Tabitha, and Tabitha tries to keep things strictly professional, sparks still fly between the pair, and after one night together everything changes between them. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am a big fan of Joanna Blake and I lover her stories. The heroes are always alpha males but with a soft heart that just wants to give his all to his lady. The ladies have a backbone and they don't take any crap from anyone, especially their man! Torpedo is a semi second chance love story as the male lead in this always had a crush on the girl but never followed through. He is now laid up with an injury and she just happens to be his care giver afterwards. He is a guy so does a stupid thing that drives her away but it's made up for in the end. I think he should've grovelled more but hey, that's me! No cheating and always a HEA.
I was in the moody for something quick and lovey dovey. I actually got just what I asked for. I love a man that knows what he wants and goes after it. Gabe wanted Tabby and he made sure to let her know his intentions. Poor Tabby she had a ruff life, being treated like an object to most men, she didn't know what it was like to be around a real man. I will say this book is straight to the point with a HEA ending. My one dislike: I don't like how the book states how attractive the female character was, it was a little overboard for my taste. Yes her body was banging and she is so beautiful we get it. The parts where all the males grope and fall all over her was ridiculous.
I can't believe I'm saying this but Torpedo is just plain awful. Sorry, not up to par. I came SO close to not finishing. I disliked Gabe so much that I was seriously praying that Tabby leaving town would be the end of the book. Good riddance I say. Tabby was such a sweet and good person whereas Gabe was an arrogant chauvinist alpha-prick. From day one of his recuperation his thoughts made him no better than the guys in the bar that he so disdained. I found nothing appealing in their story and actually feel sorry for Tabby. She really could have done so much better.
This is my second time reading this book, and I still love it. I don’t really consider it a second chance because Gabe & Tabby were never together in high school, even though they both had secretly crushed on one another. The only issue I had was Gabe’s immaturity to listening to lies spread at a bar, and acting like a jerk to Tabby afterwards. He definitely isn’t my top book boyfriend, I doubt anyone would be able to knock Mason (Mean Machine) out of that position.
This one just wasn't for me. I felt like there was just no real conflict to the story, just characters who are immature and weak. Tabby says she hates being treated like a piece of meat yet they use sex to solve everything As for Gabe, I liked him a little bit until the whole "mole" situation. That was just a horrible ugly thing to do and he basically wants to be able to just forget about it. Even when a book may not be my favorite I can usually find something I like about it but that just isn't the case with this one.
Voluntarily leaving a review. I really enjoyed this fast paced second chance romance. Gabe and Tabitha are an interesting couple and they both make you take notice. Gabe knows who he wants and will go after her. There is a WTF moment and I certainly felt for Tabitha. Then as you keep reading, it hits you in the heart. This is a second chance romance that is worth every moment of the journey for Gabe and Tabitha.
