Here, There, Everywhere
Zeus would rather be anywhere than here—Buffalo Falls—the tiny town his family moved to at the end of the school year. Having left all his friends back in Chicago and with nothing to look forward to except helping out at his mother’s café and biking around town with his weird little brother, Zeus is pretty sure this is destined to be the worst summer of his life.
But then he meets Rose—funny, beautiful, smart, and an incredible musician.
Zeus can hardly believe that someone like her exists, let alone seems interested in being with him. However, while Zeus is counting down the minutes until he can see her next, Rose is counting down the days until she finds out whether she will be able to leave their small town to pursue her dreams. As the afternoons spent going on local adventures pass into nights discussing their deepest hopes, Zeus knows that he doesn’t have long to convince Rose that what they have is more than a summer fling…if only he’s brave enough to seize the chance.

This was a YA contemporary romance story, about a boy from Chicago who had just moved to a small town.
I liked Zeus, and it was sweet how he looked after his little brother all the time.
The storyline in this was about Zeus and his mother and younger brother moving to a small town where his mother had set up a small café. Zeus was tasked with making deliveries for his mother around town, and in doing so met Rose, a piano prodigy who played at the old people’s home. Thus began a cute romance between Zeus and Rose, although I did feel like the second half of the book lost its way a little in terms of plot.
The ending to this was kind of bittersweet.

I received this lovely paperback from another book blogger who said “you need to read this, it’s quaint” so Sally.....I’m reading it!
Zeus is a lovely lad. He’s had to move home with his Mother and young brother.
His Moms set up a cafe and helps out but most of all, he Care takes his young brother. I found Zeus to be a sweet unassuming lad who I came to adore within the pages.
Upon helping his mom he meets Rose. This is the start of not only a blossoming friendship but a budding falling in love romance.
A lovely sweet relaxing tale which I thoroughly enjoyed.

"As I drove back to town, the sun at our backs and the windows down, I looked over to Rose, whose hair flew wildly in the wind. She stared out her window watching the trees and houses whip by .... I'd never felt happier sitting next to someone."
This book was so much better than I was expecting! I wasn't expecting it to be garbage by any means, but I thought it would be a pretty standard contemporary. And it was in some ways, but there was so much heart and warmth in this book I was immediately captivated. Here, There Everywhere is a story about family and finding yourself, and first loves. It was really a joy to read.
Things I Liked
I loved the diversity in the story! Zeus, the main character, is Mexican and Norweigan, his little brother Grub is Puerto Rican and Norwiegan. Rose, Zeus' love interest is Filipino. I loved seeing so much diversity in small town America, because diversity exists everywhere.
It was so easy to connect to the characters and the story. The best word I can use to describe this book is endearing. I didn't want to stop reading because I loved spending time with these characters.
I loved every single relationship in this book. Zeus and Grub and a fantastic brother duo, who clearly love each other very much. I loved seeing Zeus' close relationship with his mom. He came to her when he was upset and emotional, and I loved seeing so much support between them. I loved Zeus and Rose's getting-to-know-you phase, their dates were adorable. I liked seeing Zeus interact with all of the senior citizens at the retirement center - there were many vibrant characters. I liked that even after Zeus started dating Rose, he actually made his own friends too. This story wasn't only about the romance, we get to see great family and friend moments too.
Things I Didn't Like
I felt like all the points of conflict in the story were relatively weak. Because this is much more of a character driven story it didn't really bother me too much.
This book was such a pleasant surprise. It was so heart-warming and happy to read. I loved the characters and the relationships we get to see. Here, There, Everywhere is a great contemporary that is guaranteed to put you in a good mood. And it's really perfect for this time of year.

Omg! I really loved this book! What a short but cute read! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It talks about first loves, following ur dreams, friendships, family first, sacrifices, etc. It’s your basic yet perfect young adult contemporary. It makes you sad but also fills you up and teaches you an important life lesson. It’s about this boy Zeus who moves to this isolate town where nothing happens and he’s sad about it. His mom opens this vegan restaurant that isn’t going very well and he has a weird younger brother whose imagination has gone too far and he thinks he’s in the army. He begins volunteering at a senior home, where he falls in love with this other volunteer who plays piano, rose. They spark up a friendship which quickly turns to dating, and they are an awesome match because they always encourage each other to follow their dreams. Rose is going to New York for school at the end of summer, but they still have the best summer ever. It’s a bittersweet ending I didn’t want her to leave but it was clear that’s how the book was going. There’s also this complication where Zeus is too involved with rose so he forgets about his little brother, who becomes friends with this old man who has Alzheimer’s and they play this make up game where they pretend they r in the war and they do missions- which ends up getting the little brother in trouble when they accidentally steal things from the senior home. In that sense, the book also talks about honesty. It was a memorable read.

This was such a sweet and adorable story of first love, but also about friends and family, nurturing those important relationships, living for today, and holding onto the good memories.
I didn't realize the title of this book was based on the Beatles' song, Here, There, and Everywhere, but I have to say, it's appropriate. That song is a sweet and beautiful declaration of love, and encompasses many of the emotions Zeus was experiencing as he fell in love for the first time.
•Pro: I LOVED Zeus! He was wry and witty and made me laugh often. I think I laughed for several pages straight as he explained his heritage and declared himself "Mexiwegian". He was also sweet and caring. He felt bad when he was insensitive to others' needs, and he also felt things quite deeply. He took one for the team on more than one occasion, and grew a whole lot during this book.
•Pro: This book had quite a precious sibling relationship. Zeus was much older than his brother, Manny, who he lovingly referred to as Grub, but still had a genuine fondness for him and spent quite a bit of time fostering Grub's love for all things World War II.
•Pro: Speaking of Grub, I loved that kid too. I adored all his WWII adventures and I thought the storyline involving Grub and Blackjack, the 90-year-old WWII veteran was quite special.
•Pro: This was such a precious story of falling in love. From the first time Zeus saw Rose, I knew I was going to enjoy watching this relationship blossom, and I was not disappointed. I was delighted tagging along for their Sunday outings and volunteering at the nursing home. Theirs was a tender, sweet first love that I wish everyone could experience.
•Pro: This book had so many wonderful side characters, which I think is really important to point out, because this is a character driven story. One of my favorites was Letty. She was the heart of Hilltop Nursing Home. She was spunky and fun-loving and she was all about living in the moment. She was always saying, "Enjoy today, you might be dead tomorrow." Sage advice.
•Pro: Full disclosure - I cried when I read the ending. I was on the treadmill, and I was blubbering. It was just so sweet and touching. I also liked that we got a lot of closure. I knew how things were going for almost all the major players in the story, and although there was one question mark, I decided how to interpret the very end of the book, and I was happy with it.
Overall: A sweet and touching tale of first love, which made my heart dance and brought lots of happy tears to my eyes.

This book was a pleasant surprise. I'm not a huge contemporary reader, but there was something enduring about this story, and it's characters, I really liked. Loved the diversity of the characters too.

Moving from Chicago to Buffalo Falls with his mother and younger brother Grub has not been ideal for Jesus (Zeus) Gunderson, but working as the delivery boy for his mother’s cafe over the summer ends up opening some doors. While making a delivery to Hilltop, the local retirement home, Zeus meets a pianist named Rose whom he instantly falls for and Grub meets Blackjack, a WWII vet who is more than willing to indulge him in his soldier wargame fantasies. On another delivery, Zeus meets Dylan and the two strike up a friendship based on their shared love of music. Throughout the course of the summer conflicts arise, hijinks ensue, and lessons are learned.
There are a few questions that propel the plot of this novel. Will the World Peas Cafe be a success? What will happen with Zeus and Rose whose musical talents may take her away from Buffalo Falls? Why are the valuables of Hilltop residents suddenly going missing? Mostly though, this is a slice of life novel, and the reader is along for the (mostly entertaining) ride with Zeus. This is meant to be a humorous book, and your level of enjoyment will be determined by whether or not Zeus’s take on the world tickles your funny bone. It felt a little like a book that wished it were a movie, but it’s a book that has heart and may be a winner for readers who connect with Zeus. Optional purchase.

Here, There, Everywhere is a sweet, feel-good wholesome read. It is also a slow and predictable read. A solid and safe read which I think will enhance its appeal to a wide audience. But it is also written without risk and includes a sprinkle of moral ‘preaching’.
The characters are one-dimensional, stereotypical and forgettable, which is unfortunate as the story, having no plot, is very character driven.
The themes, (which include adjusting and adapting to a new town, absent parent, following your dreams, first love, autism spectrum disorder, dementia, dealing with death) are touched on so briefly that they hardly make an impact.

Durango's novel was very underwhelming, especially in terms of characters. I thought Zeus was lacking in any development, and Rose was such a Mary-Sue it was unreal. Every plot point was surface-level depth, and nothing dug deep into the characters, which would have been nice since almost nothing happens plot-wise. This novel is trying to be character-driven with lackluster and bland characters, which is ultimately an unsuccessful route to take. I'm obviously in the minority as most of the other reviews are positive, but it was just a little too bland and predictable for me.

This book was...underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it was well-written and featured some fun secondary characters (Grub, Blackjack, Letty), but the romance/main plot - for all that it was supposed to be cute and quirky - just felt meh.

No kidding. Something new every Sunday for the rest of the summer? Was that even possible? The most likely ending was that I'd run out of ideas, Rose would fly off to New York, and I'd be left behind with random mustard stains and a truckload of pain.
Still.
Two months with Rose.
I stuck my hand across the bench.
She met it with hers."
Zeus is frustrated that his family moved from everything he cared about in Chicago to small town Buffalo Falls. There is nothing to do except help deliver food from his mother's new cafe and watch his weird army obsessed brother, Grub.
But then, on a delivery to the Hilltop Nursing Home, Zeus stumbles across Rose, a beautiful pianist his age. An awkward greeting blossoms into a summer fling, and as much as the two like each other, Rose has plans to move out to New York in the fall to attend a music school.
Zeus wants to have every chance with Rose to convince her that what they have is special, and so he makes the most out of their hang outs in a small town like Buffalo Falls, where he discovers it isn't the place that makes it home, but the people.
If you're looking for a feel-good romance, this will probably be a good book for you. It's pretty wholesome and is sure to make you smile.
However, that was what bothered me. It was only good. Nothing else. Everything pretty much went well, so it was a bunch of smiling and holding hands and kissing, and the plot moved nowhere. All conflicts were brushed aside, and I don't think that Zeus ever really learned from his mistakes.
There was no ugly in the book. Everything was beautifully described, which isn't really a problem, but it got too sappy, especially coming from a boy narrator.
"She smiled, then walked past me in an aromatic whoosh of sun-ripened raspberries and vanilla."
These characters, aside from their strange names, had little to no personality. Had I not known that Rose was a pianist or Zeus was a delivery boy, I wouldn't be able to pick them out from a crowd, or even want to. They had absolutely no character flaws, except for maybe Zeus's selfishness. I felt like I was reading about blank templates and not real people.
There was potential for good material, such as Grub's strange obsessions and his relationship with old veteran Blackjack, or Zeus's weak friendship with popular Dylan and their mediocre rock band. However, everything had to be about Zeus and Rose, Zeus and Rose, Zeus and Rose and their perfect romance swallowed up the entire book.
The ending is really where the book started to pick up, and while it was exciting, I wish that kind of conflict would have happened sooner. I'm all for books without much of a plot, but I also appreciate the flaws and the ugly things that make people human. I want it to stare readers in the face, not hide around the corner.
Personally, the story wasn't for me. However, I know anybody that is a sucker for romance will get a kick out of this book. You should check it out!

'Here, There, Everywhere' by Julia Durango and Tyler Terrones is a creative and enjoyable read about a spectrum of ideas, from friendship to family dynamics, finding inspiration in unlikely places to first loves. Main character Zeus finds himself stuck in small town Buffalo Falls after having lived in Chicago for most of his life. His mom has opened a hippie type of cafe and he deals with being her delivery boy for the first bit of summer. Nothing seems to be looking up for him as he misses his hometown until he meets Rose, a musical and pretty girl that he meets when delivering a meal to a senior home where Rose plays piano.
Zeus' relationship with Rose grows in a somewhat quick way, but it is done just as believably. They find themselves spending more and more time together, both at Hilltop Nursing Home and on outside dates. He soon finds out that she intends to move away at the end of the summer to spend her senior year at a music conservatory in New York. Having just met her, but at the same time having become completely enamored of her, he cannot imagine her not being around. As their relationship blossoms, conflicts occur that make them unsure how to move forward. These include issues related to Rose's school pursuits, Zeus' uneasiness about making friends, despite not really having trouble doing so, his little brother Grub's fascination with and admiration of an Alzheimer's patient at the nursing home, and the tables somewhat turning on what might happen next for all involved.
The story moves along very smoothly and with just enough going on in each chapter and scene that it doesn't feel over- or under-loaded. Zeus is basically the epitome of what a teenage boy should be - unsure of himself but trying to project confidence, at least when in front of a girl, as well as kind and good to his brother, yet with an underlying air of self-involvement that any normal teenager feels from time to time. His little brother Grub along with their mom, while secondary characters, shine through as important forces in Zeus' life, especially noted when Zeus realizes how disconnected he has been from them after trying to find himself as the summer progresses. The residents of Hilltop Nursing Home are well-drawn as well, and readers will feel for these older folks whom Zeus and Rose find solace with during their time spent there. And Rose is a friendly and talented girl who desperately wants to find herself, but gets caught up in her relationship with Zeus, causing friction that otherwise wouldn't have occurred. However, without friction and conflict, the end result does not seem quite as earned and deserved, and this is something Durango and Terrones did very well throughout the story.
The ending of 'Here, There, Everywhere' will bring smiles and tears, truly showing how the story reveled in beauty, not just of the physical variety, but even more so of the emotional type. Definitely recommended for lovers of contemporary young adult romances with a flavor of family dynamics and even more extended relationships.

And Rose is a friendly and talented girl who desperately wants to find herself, but gets caught up in her relationship with Zeus, causing friction that otherwise wouldn't have occurred. However, without friction and conflict, the end result does not seem quite as earned and deserved, and this is something Durango and Terrones did very well throughout the story.
The ending of 'Here, There, Everywhere' will bring smiles and tears, truly showing how the story reveled in beauty, not just of the physical variety, but even more so of the emotional type. Definitely recommended for lovers of contemporary young adult romances with a flavor of family dynamics and even more extended relationships.

This novel earns 4 beautiful stars from me. I really liked it. It was full of light and happiness, caring and doing the right thing. First part of the book was hilarious with all the funny introductions, awkward moments and truth. I would not say that story kept up this greatness through all the story. At some moment, I caught myself feeling that I already know how story will end. And at that point I did not wanted it to end like that so I was kind of avoiding finishing the book. But when time came, I just accepted that this is the way how it will end, and in a real life that is exactly how story like this would end.
All characters in the book were amazing. There was not a single character I did not like. Everyone was spot on to make this story exceptionally good. At the end of the book, I think some closure was missing, because comparing with other parts of the book, there was no much feelings described. It felt little rushed. It felt like I do know how it ends, I do understand they grew to accept it, but how this acceptance felt were not described.
Thanks to authors for reminding me how beautiful and simple love is and can be, and how important is to see good in everyone. How rewarding is to give more than take and most importantly, how to live each day celebrating life!
I doubt I will ever pick this book again, but I hope my kid(s) will find this book at some point in their young adult life. It is good to be reminded how important is to be caring, honest and loving.

This was an easy, quick read, but felt like it was meant for an audience younger than YA in many ways. I didn't dislike it at all, but there was something about it that felt off to me and I couldn't give myself over to the story as completely as I really wanted to.
The main character is Zeus (short for Jesus), the only Mexiwegian in the new small town he's moved to. It's summer and he's tasked with looking after his little brother and doing food delivery for his mother who has just opened at cafe in the town. Zeus is pretty sure everything about the town sucks until he delivers a salad to the nursing home and meets Rose.
Pretty soon he and Rose are dating and Zeus is making other friends around town, mainly due to his deliveries and his mother's amazing brownies. Everything seems perfect until Zeus discovers that Rose isn't any happier in the small town than he was when he arrived. She's counting the hours until she finds out if she gets the scholarship that will allow her to go to New York to study music at the end of the summer.
With the romance feeling like it unfolds way too quickly, to a rather superfluous subplot involving theft at the rest home, this is a book that just doesn't quite gel the way it should. Some of the best characters are the supporting ones - rest home residents, the other kids in the band Zeus joins - which serves only to make Rose and Zeus appear more bland. Rose especially. She's one of those female characters who just seems to good to be true.
There are things I definitely enjoyed about this book, but it certainly wouldn't be one I'd be telling everyone I meet they have to read. But certainly not a bad way to fill in a Sunday afternoon,

Given the wealth of YA literature out there, I found Here, There, Everywhere quite mediocre. There are a lot of issues briefly addressed in the novel, however, none are tackled head on by the authors. It's difficult, because I'm not necessarily a fan of the YA novel completely shaped by one issue as they can become a bit preachy, however, to not even address these issues sat oddly.
The plot was a little wishy-washy too, which is a shame because there are some elements that really lend themselves to more discussion and character growth that just aren't utlised to their full potential. The novel falls more on the character progression front, but sadly there's not much of that either. I didn't really feel that Zeus really learned from his mistakes, I didn't really connect with Rose either which is a shame. Grub, Zueus's younger brother, is endearing but sidelined in the story to make way for some fairly standard teen romance.
A cute love story that will while away some time, I'd recommend Here, There, Everywhere to anyone who wants a light hearted read about a teenage boy settling in to a new town and finding his feet, new friends, and a little romance. If you're after a bit more 'meat' to your novel, including character progression, this probably isn't for you.

Let's just start by saying this: Durango's voice and humor are quite simply marvelous. The way that Zeus decided to word things in his mind was continually original and funny. The characters were unique, separate, and satisfyingly colorful. Grub was one of the most adorable and lovable characters I've come across in a while.
So why didn't I really love this book? As per my usual, it comes down to a character (these entities are magnanimously important, at least for me it would seem). Two characters actually. The first is Rose. It seems like so much thought and development went into nearly all the other characters, one would have expected Rose to be equally well done, but, quite bluntly, she was incredibly, stereotypically, bland. I can't think of a single thing about her that made her interesting.
The second character is Letty. *SPOILERS* While she certainly was entertaining, I found that she lacked meaning, and it grew more and more evident throughout the story that she was intended to provide this to the plot. I didn't care at all when she died. I think that I probably was supposed to.
"Enjoy today, kid, you might be dead tomorrow!" A familiar enough principal, but while you're living in the moment, maybe stop to live for a purpose.

This has gotta be one of my favorite books of all time. It was a beautiful mix of romance, realistic fiction, and comedy all smashed into one amazing book. It’s by far one of the best romances I’ve ever read. I have never laughed out loud, cried, or connected as emotionally to a book until this one. I am almost at a loss for words. I will miss reading this!

Zeus moves to a small town from Chicago when his mom decides to open a cafe. They moved at the tail end of the school year. He and his brother didn't really get a chance to make friends in their new town by the time summer arrived. Being a delivery boy for his mom's cafe brings changes for him and his little brother. The characters were very likable and realistic. It was a heart-warming story that many can enjoy if they want something without a lot of frills, but a sweet, satisfying story about first love, following your dreams, and doing the right thing, with a touch a comedy.

Zeus and his brother must adjust to life in a small town after living in Chicago. They are being raised by their single mom, who owns a small cafe in the town. At first, he is resentful about leaving all his friends in Chicago. However, as he meets new people and, especially, a talented young musician, he begins to appreciate his new life.
