Marie Kondo melihat tidying-up sebagai perubahan besar.

Really bad. Would be a decent book for reading on the toilet or in a Drs surgery whilst waiting. Doesn't really tell me anything I didn't already know.

Im sorry for this being a long review. I think this is the longest review I've ever done for a book. I explain why I liked it, why I will reread it and go back to it, and a little bit about my life to explain how this book will help me. I'm sorry if you think it's rambling but I wanted to get it all out. Happy reading my review on it~
I just bought this book today, literally a few hours ago. An I couldn't put it down! I 1000% Enjoyed this book! As you noticed I said book, I have a physical copy not the kindle version. Anyways I picked up this book because I wanted at least one tidying book that would help me and also something I would enjoy actually going back to. An so far, I can tell I will be coming back to this to do the activities when I'm ready to do another decluttering.

Now I'm not a hoader or anything but I do have a tendency to HOLD ON to things an not let go. I did listen to an audiobook called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing (Magic Cleaning #1) by Marie Kondō. I did enjoy listening to it but nothing really stuck with me. This book on the other had did have me questioning a lot of things & I also agreed with a lot of what she was saying. Now I have removed a lot of papers out of my site before I had to move back home in 2015 & then again I got rid of a ton of shoes an clothes that I no longer wear or will even touch or forgot about. I felt good. I actually got rid of a few bags or a container. So now all my clothes can fit in two trunks. But I did get more clothes (didn't buy they were given to me) & I did also get rid of a lot of books I wouldn't touch and games. But for some odd reason I steal feel like I have a lot.

Bear with me. Before Hurricane Harvey (yes I live here in Houston, TX) my other things that were all in tote bags or other bags had to all be stuffed into containers. So as my books. Which I'm fine with because all of my things have been in trunks & containers since I came back hoome to live with my mom & sister in 2015. I would only get a small bag to put clothes I wanted to wear for about two weeks. Its actually going well and Im glad I got rid of my dresser, more space in this small room me and my sister must share. (We are 10 years apart, im 23 and she is 10. She also has a lot of things, more things then me and will surly get more during Xmas.) Now as I said before Harvey our things had to be moved up front so it could be sprayed and then moved back in the rooms. Problem. We didn't put our things back because we were supposed to get new carpeting and that would mean moving our stuff all over again!

An when I moved it all the first time it was easy cause I only had a few containers and a few bags. My issue was that it was so darn HEAVY! An I relly didn't like that. But in conclusion my things will forever be in containers and trunks until we move to a new place (which wont happen for a long time) but my mother and sister haven't put there things back either. There all in containers or extra large trash bags and they complain they have so much an dont feel like putting it back.

So after reading this book, I want to pick days where I can go through a container or two or a tote bag that I know has just things in it or papers with writing or old mail I no longer need. To down size a bit more for me & also get back to making to do list to help myself out daily. Plus I was doing well saving my money for major memorable experience like things but then I had a treat myself day yesterday. After I noticed how much I spent I told my self I needed to keep treating myself maybe only 2 or three times out of 6 to 12 months.

As the name suggests, the little book is very little that you are guaranteed to finish it in under an hour, or under 2 hours if you are reading it very slowly. The book provide you with general information about decluttering and some tips, but I find it not as detailed as the tidying up expert Marie Kondo's The Life Changing Manga of Tidying Up, although both of them are equally light reads.

It's a coincidence that I read Marie Kondo's tidying up manga first before reading Beth Penn's little book, and this might be the reason why I prefer the manga more than the little book, so this review might be biased.

I think some of the content in the little book and the manga is similar, so I think one of authors (Beth Penn or Marie Kondo) should credit the other. I believe the one about Capsule wardrobe is so obvious.

Fair to say given the size of this book it is intended to be an introduction, probably a handy gift idea for someone about to start their journey and it also has some activities which can be done to get you underway. At this stage, I'm looking for more from my "simplify" book genre. Just 3 stars.

3 on 5 stars.

I'm a big fan of the Marie Kondo method of decluttering and was curious to see how this matched up. True to the cover, it's a tiny book - 98 pages- and makes for a quick read with some practical tips on decluttering.

I'd have liked a few more tips in depth when it came to actually decluttering but I guess the scope of the book doesn't allow for that.

Her methods don't exactly mirror Kondo but there are a few overlapping techniques. In general I liked the principles of decluttering, online and offline, that she touches upon in the book.

Personally I'd have preferred more but the illustrations were pretty cute so it had that in its favour.

A great little intro book! I’ve recently read a lot about minimalism and have been sharing thoughts with family and friends... I’ll definitely be suggesting this one as a starting point to understand where I’m coming from.

Fazit:

So geht Minimalismus.

A sweet easy read that touches on key ways to declutter. Beth dives into why we buy and the benefits of decluttering so she's not afraid to get at the underpinnings of clutter. I loved the simple yet helpful illustrations along the way. One of my favorite quotes in her book is "clutter represents a delayed decision." And then she speaks to why we keep our clutter. She even mentions a cluttered refrigerator as a sign of a cluttered house. And while it's a quick read, she addresses decluttering our schedules, fast fashion, intention and the sharing economy. Worth a read.

Going through old books on my shelf today. Love this little book. It’s springtime and this is the time of year that I declutter. I’d love to come to a point in my life when I don’t need to repeat decluttering, but that means I need to stop buying. I’m almost at this point in my life. Not spending time taking care of my items is the goal. Spending my time living my life instead is the main goal. Good read.

Ja, für Zuhause findet man immer was.

Too short to really provide a lot of insight for me. It was so brief, easily no more than 2 hours of reading. I suppose I didn't expect the 'little' in the title to be so literal as I read it on kindle. I felt that it could have benefitted from being longer though as it just felt like a collection of sentences or paragraphs that were each on a slightly different topic. The images were lovely, but I just didn't feel like I gained anything from this book.

Little axe -- Big tree

There's nothing little about this book. It speaks truth to one of the powerful drives in our lives and it does it with a clear and calming voice. Read this to discover what you're missing in your search for success and happiness. Read it if you think it can't possibly be all that. Is that a challenge? Sure, and you won't be sorry you took it.

I want to start this review by writing that the illustrations are beautiful. The book could have easily been an essay with the purpose of getting you motivated to declutter. The swedish translation uses the verb 'städa' to translate the english 'tidy' which maybe creates other expectations of this book. Given its brevity it is a comprehensive work that takes you through the whole process: from the why to the how and the after and the maintaining. The book touches on the problems with clutter: the stress, the time and space it takes to have so much clutter and the benefits of getting rid of it. Negative space, digital and calendar clutter are also topics that are touched upon, as well as the time we spend on social media. The art of tidying up is a great motivator to look more into decluttering or to set those decluttering wheels in motion. If you want more on the how to declutter and the actual process of decluttering you should look at other books. For those of us who grew up with clutter, the natural habitat is full of fluff. It takes a lot of work to get rid of it and be intentional of what and even who we let into our life. Same decluttering principles can be applied to people, folks!

This (literally) little book is adorable, but because I am a half-assed minimalist and relatively eco-conscious, I did find that it essentially repeats the same information I read in blogs, articles, and other books over & over. The main points: You'll be happier with less stuff and you have to work to get rid of the stuff and to stay rid of the stuff. Journaling, meditation, mindfulness, a capsule wardrobe, manageable to-do lists, saying "no" to too many activities, allowing for negative space in your home, not zoning out on your phone/social media, making & sticking to shopping lists, and borrowing things when you're able to are all going to make your life better/easier/simpler/less cluttered.

My one big take away is to chart out how I spend my time in 10-minute increments for a few days to assess where I could be more intentional with things and "take back" some of my time. I like this idea and will try it.

I give this book 3 stars because it's cute, has some nice quotes and illustrations, and had a couple interesting tidbits or observations.

I like it that the book is kept tiny (in line with decluttering goals). Have a few good quotes at the start. Lovely illustrations makes it visually pleasing to read.

Mostly basic stuff which you may already know, or can find from articles in the internet, focusing on the mentality towards a decluttered life. Good points.

I just didn't like the part where it emphasizes on getting rid of things but does not give a balance to acknowledging keeping or even acquiring things that gives you joy.

If you're looking for storage ideas / hacks, this is not the book for you.

My next goal: declutter this book.

The Little Book of Tidying is certainly little. I read it in less than an hour, though I can imagine it’ll take far longer to actually start tidying. It has some helpful information, though it didn’t tell me anything that I didn’t already know. The shortness of it was much appreciated in terms of it being a quick read and not taking up much time, but it was a little light on the details at times - especially in the section on time, as that was very short in comparison to the information on possessions. Overall, it’s a good little book to motivate change, I just wish it had a bit more detail.

A great book for those who are getting started to re-organise their life. I love how the writer doesn’t just focused on the technicalities of how to tidy your home but also touch on the philosophical on how to tidy your home and eventually tidy your life as well ie building a habit to organise and taking control of your life. Plus point, adorable illustrations!

You may need to invest on another book or research regarding this topic because this book just discussed briefly about it.

A small book with a nice layout, art and some good insight and advice. With a book this small though I think it's contents most be worthwhile, and it's not always. The way it broadens into ideological 'clutter' is interesting though. It does have some nuggets of wisdom as well and it was a pleasant enough experience.

I really enjoyed the principle behind this book and found it wonderful until I reached about 2/3 of the way through. Then it felt like it started to get a bit preachy around the idea that anyone who isn’t tidy is bad and those who are tidy are somehow better. This was a shame as it switched me off a little, trying to focus on the helpful bits and just disregard the bits that don’t feel helpful.

This little book is cute (and when I say little, I mean that it's barely bigger than my hand), but it has some good information about decluttering. Sadly I didn't get as much out of it as I had hoped because a lot of it is about time management rather than actual decluttering. But I liked the way it was written and the illustrations are really cute.
