His prose work includes SPIDER-MAN: ENEMIES CLOSER, an original novel; co-editing and contributing a story to PLANET OF THE APES: TALES FROM THE FORBIDDEN ZONE; a story for X-FILES: SECRET AGENDAS; GOTHAM CITY 14 MILES, a book of essays on the 1966 Batman TV series; SGT. JANUS, SPIRIT-BREAKER, a collection of pulp ghost stories featuring an Edwardian occult detective; MONSTER EARTH, a shared-world giant monster anthology; and CAPTAIN ACTION: RIDDLE OF THE GLOWING MEN, the first pulp prose novel based on the classic 1960s action figure. Jim also currently provides regular content for Marvel.com, the official Marvel Comics website.
Mummies, irrespective of what others might claim, are not dead yet. This anthology of vivacious and action-packed stories prove that beneath the dusty and bandage-wrapped exterior, those bodies contain surprising amount of variety and, blasphemous as they might sound, fun! After 'A Message from the Director' we had~ 1. Barry Reese's "Love's Deadly Kiss": rather stuffy and preachy, I'm afraid. 2. Teel James Glenn's "To Rise and Conquer": Monogolian mummy packs quite a punch. 3. Sam Gafford's "The Weighing of the Dead": tremenodus fun! 4. Duane Spurlock's "Whispers from the Dread World": fast and fascinating adventure in Mexico. 5. John C. Bruening's "The Warrior and the Stone": poignant and political stuff unfolding in the mountains. 6. Nancy Hansen's "Sacrifices": Siberian surprise, where valour overcomes villainy. Overall, an enjoyable anthology covering Mummies from different parts of the globe. Recommended.
Engaging collection of stories of mummies from Flinch Books. Nice decision to avoid focusing solely on the typical Egyptian Universal Horror-style pyramids and pharaohs mummy. More action/adventure with a touch of the supernatural vs. horror. Look forward to reading more from this new publisher.
Disclaimer: I have edited work by some of these writers in the past, but have not worked for this publisher and had no role in the production of this title.
This was a fun collection of new mummy stories. There was not a bad story in the book. Anyone interested in mummy stories should get a copy for themselves.
