Now this is better. Old Man Logan is off to Japan in pursuit of Lady Deathstrike because of the events in Wolverine: Old Man Logan, Vol. 2: Bordertown, where he faces the Silent Order whom he dealt with in his past/future reality in what was the Wastelands! Flashbacks continue as he recalls his life in the Wastelands as he and an unlikely ally take on the Silent Order. Much better! And the art is pretty pretty good. 8 out of 12, Four Star read.

Wolverine heads to Japan. Logan is on the trail of Lady Deathstrike after the events of the previous book. There he encounters the Silent Order, an organization he dealt with in his past, our possible future. This follows the format of previous volumes with the story flashing back into Logan's past as he deals with the present. I liked this. It didn't have as much baggage as some of the previous stories. Because they were new characters, it felt fresh to me.

Old Man Logan works fine as a standalone book but as an ongoing title? Nope. And I think at this point Marvel should just stop because Jeff Lemire’s clearly run out of ideas.

So the unmemorable story of Logan hunting down Lady Deathstrike takes him back to, of course, Japan where he has to fight some arbitrary warrior monks because what else is he gonna do?

It’s so dull. It’s just Logan slicing and dicing his way through dozens of people. It’s really edge of your seat stuff when your protagonist is invincible!! There’s also a story set in the past running parallel to the one in the present but the two get in each other’s way rather than complement one another. Like, the present storyline is set in a different timeline to the past, which, besides being a needlessly convoluted setup, means that they have nothing to do with one another.

The only positive thing I can say about The Last Ronin is that Andrea Sorrentino’s art is nothing short of spectacular. The landscape vistas are stunningly beautiful and the splash page of Logan’s head and memories displayed with thousands of tiny panels was remarkable. This artist gets better and better with each passing book and it’s so impressive to see.

Art aside, The Last Ronin is a totally boring Wolverine book, which always seems to be the case whenever Logan goes to Japan. Time for this title to commit seppuku, Marvel!

As I read the third volume of Old Man Logan two things came to me. This series keeps missing the mark of being great, only ever being "Good". And that they are extremely quick reads and this is why I love Marvel Unlimited.

So what's happening with our old man logan? Well he's going to Japan of course. Needs to find lady deathstrike. Doing so he gets caught in a trap. Then we jump back and forth between current time in the main universe and his world back in the days before his wife/kids were brutally killed my redneck hulks. Oh, you didn't know that happened? Go read old man logan. Anyway, this group of Japanese silent warriors do not like Logan? Why....well you'll have to read to find out.

Good: Art is still interesting, some really great fight scenes with it. I also enjoyed the flashbacks. By far the best part of the story. Anytime Logan has something to fight for it's more interesting. I also thought the idea of Logan growing as a bitter old man to a character who cares again is good.

Bad: Seriously, how silly was the idea of changing a telekinesis warlord turn good? I mean it felt so forced. It's amazing how Lemire makes such real characters in his own work but here? It feels very corporate pushing. Also, as much as I like the art, sometimes I can't tell what the fuck is happening.

Overall, again, this series is entertaining and enjoyable enough to keep going. I can't help it's still missing all the beats to make it amazing but it's fun enough. A 3 out of 5.

Okay, the quality took a dip in volume 2, but it's back up now. Better yet, this volume is all Lemire’s Old Man Logan, no filler stories to pad it out.

Wolverine has always had a special relationship with Japan, so it's not surprising that this story is so memorable. On the trail of Lady Deathstrike, he arrives in Japan only to discover that he's been lured into a trap. We also get flashbacks (flashforwards?) to the alternate future he came from that parallel the action. It's a nicely constructed story that builds well, and, more importantly, it's a distinctly Old Man Logan story as opposed to just a Wolverine story. Only an older, wiser Logan could have made that resolution happen, not the hothead he used to be.

Volume 3 combines Old Man Logan #9-13. For once I am a bit miffed by the money I spent. This was not worth $9.99.

Well this was a bit of a letdown from the previous volumes. I feel like I grew up reading about Wolverine's adventures in Japan. It would have been nice if it was a new location and/or the X-Men or Avengers came along for the ride. So after volume 2 I thought Logan would adjust to the fact that the Fall of New York and other things were not going to come to pass. That he would work on getting to know his former comrades and maybe figure out what thing or person sent him back to an alternate future. Instead Logan is out to get Deathstrike due to her attacking the town and endangering Logan's future wife.

So I was a bit surprised to even see the book starting off with Logan coming back to Japan undercover trying to track down Deathstrike.

Logan still has a case of the not very smarts in this one. I don't know. I get that he is supposed to have this incredibly case of reserves and will fight to the death, or past what normal men could deal with. But for once, I want him to be a strategic thinker and not just think his claws will win the day.

We get some new people who want Logan killed, and I felt a bit grossed out by how we come across Lady Deathstrike again. And per usual though, these two (Logan and Deathstrike) have the weirdest love/hate relationship ever. I just want them to go off and have a lot of hate sex and get everything out of their system. Drink some champagne and just say bygones and be done with it.

The panels are done just as well as the previous volumes. I do like the color scheme. And alternate past Logan with Maureen does look a bit different than current day Old Man Logan. We also get to see how Logan ended up in the Wastelands later on.

I am going to say that this volume did not need to be as long as previous ones. I feel like this whole track down Deatstrike and come across people from his previous future/past thing could have maybe at best been two issues before skipping ahead to something else. It just dragged. I was more interested in the previous future/past panels with Logan and Maureen. And at least we now see why Logan went all will not ever kill again from the previous volume. Though I just pretty much rolled my eyes about it.

I honestly thing this volume would have worked better if at least Jubilee came along. I want some dang adventures between these two already. I am still waiting with bated breath on the next volume to be completed though. It seems like we may have a new X-Man joining up with that group.

I have to give credit where it is due and this collection was much more enjoyable than the last one. Andrea Sorrentino’s art, her panel layouts, and her full page spreads are always unique and impressive but in this book I saw the reason for the hype. Maybe it was the secret order, the samurais, or the setting in Japan (all of which has hints of Frank Miller) but this was a great story for Wolverine to show why he is the Last Ronin.

2 stories one in the present one in the past. The past leads onto the original Old man Logan issues. However both stories involve him battling the order in Japan. Good fun, the art is still amazing. I really love the graphic style from lemire and sorrentino.

Logan is forever going to be my favorite superhero. He is damaged, haunted, and crumbling yet he always does the right thing.

Even now in these comics, when he has a second chance, he takes it. He is trying to right all the wrongs that he did. What I loved about this volume is that it is a parallel timeline. You see what he did in China before he became old and jumped timelines, and he see what he is doing now. The art is just as beautiful and the story is such a great one.

You already know the ending of one timeline, so your heart kind of hurts when you read about the past. But the future? It is pretty legit. He knows what he is doing and how to do it and he will die getting it done (you know, if he could die).

Better than the previous volume, surprisingly. There was no way this book could go on for very long without some sort of Japan connection, and although it strains credulity that Logan and Maureen could have sailed there by themselves, it also makes sense that Logan would want to find sanctuary there.

What in first look seemed like an unnecessary filler episode, connected the side quest to canon through damn fine story telling. The Last Ronin involves two opposing narratives, and both are approaching the Wasteland saga or Millar's original run from past and future. One may question the Japanese obsession with Wolverine story lines and Akira like mutants though.

This book contains the most gorgeous panels in this series, provided you have an acquired taste for Sorrentino's art.

Volume 3 felt like a filler episode to me with a shallow story arc and too much action. Sorrentino is still giving his everything and created some fantastic two-page spreads.
Still fun, but pretty forgettable in the end.

I continue to love this series. The art is great. The story is great. It does feel a little short/simple just because the story is so contained, but so much about this series and this version of the character just works. It's a great creative team and I love the work they're doing here.

Liking Old Man Logan better then Wolverine!

I am catching up on the Old Man Logan collections. I have now read Good 0, 1, 2, and now 3. Just two more to go to catch up. I like these stories and do not miss the Old Wolverine at all. But sooner or later I am sure the two Logan's will meet.

4.5 stars. This run continues to impress. Lemire is really on his A game here. After the atrocity Lady Deathstrike caused in the last volume, Logan goes after her, following the trail to Japan. There he realizes she was used as bait to lure him there and now he has to go up against the Silent Order. What’s also amazing is Lemire gives us more back story with Logan and Maureen. Giving a look into their misadventures leading up to where we found them at the beginning of the original Old Man Logan book. Really well done. Adds some sad elements and a lot of heart to this book. Even tho I’ve felt the same this whole run, I keep forgetting to mention the artwork. Sorrentinos style has the dark eerie vibe to it the fits this story. Plus some of the layouts, especially the splash pages are absolutely stunning.

This was an epic volume!

Its pretty much Logan going to Japan to find Lady Deathstrike and well information PATCH-ing (I know lame joke but) and things going wrong and then reaching Japan and battling this villain group called by "The Silent Order" led by a guy named Sohei who wants to protect the silent ward and well we see how Logan's past/future self knows it and its a fascinating story and the whole thing is awesome and when the two intercross it leads to a great story and a great fight between the order and Logan and can he and deathstrike put aside their difference to battle the new foe? Will he save him?

Its a great story and I love the way they connect this story to the present using the future-past thing and I know it gets confusing with me telling this but it fits the story perfectly and new villains showing up is always nice and showing Logan as the heroic figure is even better and sort of redeems him in a great way and I love the story in the past with Maureen and it makes you love her as the OG series never explained her past and all so Lemire does great world-building and character exploration here plus the artwork is just so goddamn gorgeous and there is a collage panel telling his past which I love so a must recommend!

Unable to escape the claws of violence or destiny, Old Man Logan heads straight into the dragon's den only to confront an inevitable truth regarding past, present, and future. While there's an intriguing idea at the heart of this volume, it's the execution, muddled by an odd alternation between past and present narratives, that leaves much to be desired.

Concluding writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino's run with this finale to their trilogy, it ultimately was an interesting experiment where most of the weight was carried by the artist. Luckily for fans, these two stick around for more successful stories.

More hardship from Logan's past is revealed. The story begins with his need for revenge, but soon turns into a fight for survival. The epic battle at the end is followed by an unexpected twist concerning his foe. Logan still has the willingness to help those in need and does so even if they threaten his life.

Logan gets a snich to reveal Lady Deathstrike's location. He wants to punish her for what she and the Reavers did to Naureen's town. He finds her in chains and is ambushed by the Silent Order. This story alternates with the one in Logan's past when he met Maureen and settled down.

This series got old fast. I would prefer a bigger story arc. This read like a filler episode for a TV show that's trying to create more episodes than it needs. Art is still good and in you're a huge Wolverine fan, it is probably still worth reading. Otherwise pass on this.

Jeff Lemire seems to be stuck when it comes to Old Man Logan. Each story arc rehashes the same idea over and over without progressing the story very far.

In this third volume, Logan heads to Japan to kill Lady Deathstrike after her actions in volume 2. Meanwhile flashbacks reveal how Logan's trip to Japan with Maureen in the Old Man Logan timeline went down.

The flashback is actually the more interesting plotline as it fleshes out a relationship we're meant to care about in the original Old Man Logan story, but Mark Millar didn't bother with. The main story instead just goes over the whole 'the future isn't fixed, you can choose to be different' thing that's been prevalent in the past two volumes. Plus there's a random kaiju, because why not.

This would probably get 2 stars, but Andrea Sorrentino's art is absolutely blinding as always, with enormously innovative panel layouts and gorgeous colours from Marcelo Maiolo that up the score by one whole star.

Not quite as good as the first two volumes, but still good. Logan decides the target on his back is too big, so rather than wait on his old enemies to come after him once they find out he's "still alive", he decides to take a more proactive approach and hunt them down. He starts with Lady Deathstrike, only to find things take a weird turn when he runs into a group of ninja known as the silent order, led by a powerful mutant telepath. The art is superb as always, and we still get some more flashbacks of Logan's past/future. It wasn't that this volume isn't good as much as the first two were just that much better. Great series.
