The American Bible Society (ABS) is an interconfessional, non-denominational, nonprofit organization, founded on May 11, 1816 in New York City, which publishes, distributes and translates the Bible and provides study aids and other tools to help people engage with the Bible. It is probably best known for its Good News Translation of the Bible, with its contemporary vernacular. They also publish the Contemporary English Version.
ABS's headquarters relocated from New York City to Philadelphia in August 2015.
I decided to begin my year of daily Bible reading with a new version and I was pleasantly surprised that this version is NOT a paraphrase as I originally thought. Instead, the American Bible Society produced a highly readable, easy English translation that compares with other word for word translations. I found myself comparing it with NKJ and NASB translations and sure enough, they are the same, but in much easier language. I admit, I still prefer memorizing from the others as I’m more of a traditionalist, but I truly enjoyed this version. I may begin 2021 reading this version again.
