The Electroclan is facing a devastating loss: Michael is missing. What’s next?
The battle on the island of Hades ended with a devastating explosion that left the island a smoking ruin and much of Hatch’s army dead. Hatch survived, however, and while his plans have certainly suffered a setback, he’s more determined than ever to bring the world’s governments under his control. But first, he wants to wipe out the resistance and capture the remaining members of the Electroclan.
As Hatch’s forces storm into action, it seems nothing can stand in their way. The Electroclan is divided. The voice is captured, and Michael’s mother is being used as bait to lure the leader of the resistance out of hiding. Can anything—or anyone—stop the Elgen? Or is this the end?
When Richard Paul Evans wrote the #1 best-seller, The Christmas Box, he never intended on becoming an internationally known author. His quiet story of parental love and the true meaning of Christmas made history when it became simultaneously the #1 hardcover and paperback book in the nation. Since then, more than eight million copies of The Christmas Box have been printed. He has since written eleven consecutive New York Times bestsellers. He is one the few authors in history to have hit both the fiction and non-fiction bestseller lists. He has won several awards for his books including the 1998 American Mothers Book Award, two first place Storytelling World Awards, and the 2005 Romantic Times Best Women Novel of the Year Award. His books have been translated into more than 22 languages and several have been international best sellers.
I am not a critical person, because I know for a fact I couldn't do what authors do, but I will warn readers who want to know, that this was a pretty disappointing end to the Michael Vey series. Most of the book is about side characters I really don't care about, and is military tactics. The payoff at the end is predictable and not very emotionally fulfilling. The characters I have grown to love over the series are sidelined most of the (short) book.
This should have been an epilogue to book #6 with all the military parts dropped.
so. I'm definitely very disappointed with this book, k? It's definitely more in the flavor of Storm of Lightning, where it's a short book where nothing really happens. Which was very, very disappointing. There will be spoilers later in this post, but I'll try to keep the first half clear.
First of all: it may be that I'm just biased after the epicness that was Fall of Hades. That one was flawed and certainly imperfect, but the end was the most brilliant end to a YA book I've read in a long time. I cried, I danced, and I thought that if this was the sixth book, the seventh was going to have a tough job surpassing it.
I was right.
The thing is, this book is--I'll say it--kind of boring. Most of it is centered around the Tuvaluan prime minister's grandson, Enele, and his friends, who are spearheading a rebellion in Tuvalu to destroy Hatch's army. The thing is, most of their part is technical war strategy. Michael Vey books have never been good at detail-balance (the things that don't matter go on for pages, and the actual plot happens in a few sentences, like Les Miserables) but in this one it was just too much. The characters we've grown to love and care about over the course of six books hardly make appearances. Jack and Ostin are prominent, but just the two of them, and Ostin feels very out of character. The rest of the Electroclan is sidelined so that we don't even see most of them.
I'll provide some things I liked and then move on to the nitpicking. -I liked the way that Jack and Ostin were featured as friends! I really did! They got along really well, and they've come a long way from the first book. I seriously enjoyed that aspect of it. -Some of the dialogue was hilarious. I can't find any particular examples at the moment, but... yeah. I cracked up a couple of times. -The kids and their arguments got to me, but... were also really funny. -Hatch is a really, really terrible villain. And in this book he's gone full-out insane. Which was creepy but awesome and I loved it.
Now: bring on the spoilers. (And I'm serious. DO NOT open them unless you want the whole thing spoiled. I jest you not.)
So that's it. My review of this book. It was certainly disappointing, so I will probably be writing some fanfic of the sixth one to make that one the end instead.
There is so many things wrong with this book that I have no words. Well, I actually have a LOT of words. Here goes: (by the way, this is like filled with spoilers- you have been warned) I was looking forward to this for SO LONG because I love this series! But this book disappointed me SO MUCH. First, it was like all the main characters that we've known since book 1 aren't even important anymore! The Electroclan was featured about 4 times and half the time they didn't even have a conversation or anything! Instead, they are just there. I have been intrigued because of THESE CHARACTERS AND YOU TAKE THEM FROM ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only Jack and Ostin are really featured and they hardly ever even talk about any of the others. Instead, they are like, "Let's go find this Enele guy!" NO. LET'S NOT. Instead of featuring the Electroclan, we have to bring in this Enele guy who totally dominates the entire book with all his, "I'm a rebel and I talk about stupid military tactics every 5 seconds!" So I get this guy running around with his friends and blowing up stuff. That's the Electroclan's job. Every time a new part started and it featured the Electroclan, I had 2 seconds of happiness before I realized that the part was 3 pages long and the next part was all about Enele again! I would be WAY more into this book if Enele was not in it at all. And THEN all these dead people aren't dead! Wow, cool- not. Because now that these guys aren't dead, of course the author has to have somebody else die. So A WHOLE ENTIRE RANCH BLOWS UP AND NOBODY'S EVEN SAD ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Speaking of dead people, Michael! Of course he wasn't dead! You could totally see it coming! Why would there even be a book 7 if Michael wasn't in it? But they tell Michael's perspective in 3rd person AND 1st person, to me that just does not make sense! Then they practically ruin Michael's entire character with the "I am a lightning god so I can vaporize people and teleport and stuff! Also now I talk like a poet or something!" Then we have the ending. So we go from being halfway across the world to back in Idaho. What happened? And how can the author be so cruel as to tell us that Michael, Taylor, Jack and Ostin are safe at home but not give any details about the other characters? I mean, they could still be back with the rebels or something! WHERE ARE THEY????? If I don't get details in the book, why can't there at least be something to wrap up the series that tells me about how they live their lives after all the battles are over? THIS IS CRUEL!!!!! Now that I've explained all the stuff I hate about this book, I don't even feel like mentioning the good stuff. Also, if you've read this book and somehow managed to survive my whole rant until now.... did Zara die or what?!?! I'm confused :/

I really loved the first few books in this series. It was so fun. But as it went on, things started falling apart. The end is so bad, I wish I hadn't started in the first place.
Books 5 and 6 were bad enough, filled with endless padding of Ostin rambling on and on about useless facts instead of doing anything interesting with him or one of the dozen electric kids. This book is much, much worse. You can take the last two chapters of this book, attach them to the end of Book 6, and with only some slight changes, it would work out to be the same. This book is 95% filler.
The entire electroclan, the characters you're here to read about, are completely sidelined this entire book. They bring nothing to the table. They do and accomplish nothing. New characters are introduced and you follow them for half of the book while the kids are doing other things, ignored by the author. If they all went home at the end of the last book, or were killed, it would not change the ending one bit.
It’s dark times like these that present us the canvas where we paint our own greatness.
I’m going to try to stay spoiler-free here. Book 6 ended on a pretty big cliffhanger with the question, Unfortunately, this question isn’t answered for quite a while. As a result, this character doesn’t participate in the story too much, and I really, really missed them.
Book 6 ended with a battle but didn’t end the war. Here, both sides are regrouping as quickly as possible to press the advantage. The Tuvaluans organize a rebellion, and they are the main focus of the story. The second half was pretty tense, and I read it looking like this:
I had a couple predictions that didn’t happen that were things I would have done if I were writing it. The ending is a bit simple, sort of deus ex machina.
The book’s final words: I’ve learned something important about life. ... It’s simply this: It’s not all right to be different. It’s freaking awesome.
Some trivia: Richard Paul Evans and his son, Michael, have Tourette’s. A lot of people with Tourette’s and even autism have really related to this book. Rick has daughters named McKenna (“a source of light in our lives”) and Abigail (“she takes away our pain”), and David Welch is the name of his son-in-law. He said he may continue the world of Michael Vey in the future. Tuvalu is a real place, and the current prime minster’s name is Enele Sopoaga.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I stayed up until 12:30am finishing this book because I couldn't put it down!
What a fantastic book to end the Michael Vey series! I know this book series was written for teens, but I have loved reading it along with my teenagers. My daughter and I were able to go to the launch party for this 7th book, where we purchased this book a few days early. We both devoured book 7 within the next 24 hours (since the 6th book left with such a cliffhanger!) We couldn't put it down since we had to find out what happened to Michael Vey! I won't spoil it for you, but I will say this: 1. Dr Hatch only gets to be worse of a bad guy, 2. Everything seems to go from bad to worse for the Electroclan, and 3. The ending is epic and I was very satisfied with how this series ended.
Richard Paul Evans has written another best seller! I love that his characters are so relatable. They are real. I love that this series is "clean." I have no problems with even my young teens reading it. I also love that one of the heroes of this series is a boy that has a disability (Tourettes). As the mother of kiddos on the autism spectrum, I want to champion any series that teaches teens that they are awesome in spite of the things that make them different. Great read, great morals, and great end to the series!
Well, Michael Vey is over. As I neared the end, I became concerned that the author would ruin it, but NO he put together a heartfelt goodbye for us and I dearly hope I'm not going to go into a book hangover... but probably not because Rick Riordan is next up on my TBR. :D
Aaaaand I digress.
There was lots of war strategy in this, but I honestly found it quite interesting. The humor also had me laughing out loud - and something has be REALLY funny in a book for me to literally burst out in an unladylike, fangirly guffaw. But Ostin and Jack make a hilarious duo!
I was a tad annoyed that Enele seemed to be our main character in this last installment - he wasn't even that interesting, just some superstitious authority figure shouting orders and being smart. But I've been battling with my opinions and have decided that I'm satisfied with the author's handling of the story. After all, there was a lil situation with our usual MC...
Anyway, Michael Vey is over. And I may be totally dry-eyed over it, but inside... *touches heart*... inside I am still trying to say goodbye.
Wow! What a ride! It's not often that I read a long series like this. But it was definitely worth it. The concept of electric children is just so cool. It's like sci fi super heroes!! Who doesn't like superheroes?? Man, Hatch makes me so angry. Like wanna rip off his head angry. How could someone be so evil??!!!!???? Haha anyways this was such an enjoyable book (series), definitely worth a re-read in the future. Also, may I just say that I really really appreciated the epilogue! It bugs me when a book has the "big finish" and just ends. what if i want to know what happens afterwards? So thank you thank you thank you, Evans, for writing an epilogue!!
Well. What a stupid book. I think of all of them it was the MOST predictable and lame.
It starts out with a bunch of pain and sorrow over Michael, despite the fact that Tanner and Gervaso died as well. Gervaso gets about 1 paragraph of the spotlight and Tanner receives nothing. I mean, really. I thought you all CARED about Gervaso?! You still upset because of the mistake he made about the captain that smuggled them into the the compound?!And Tanner: did his negativity make his death meaningless?! What happened to “Forgive forget” and “We’re not like THEM.” That’s my 1st problem.
My 2nd problem: Taylor is THE most annoying she’s ever been. All she can do is cry. NEVER MIND that she was prepared to break up with him a book ago. Yes, they got back together, but seriously?! NO ONE BEHAVES THIS WAY!!! Does she have bipolar or something? What makes it even worse is that she is presented as this “strong feminist” when in reality she is exactly the type of person I would NEVER want to be, and it’s kind of degrading that men think women are like this.
Problem number 3: The JOULES capture is kind of lame. And it doesn’t make much sense. 1st of all, the Elgen had created RESATS that worked on ordinary humans (see book 4). If Hatch has no idea of who lived and died, then shouldn’t he have been prepared? Not only that, but Jack and Ostin’s escape was based totally on luck and not very realistic. I mean, how many elite navies do you imagine focusing ENTIRELY on a screaming teenage girl in pain? I can think of a few; NOT.
The 4th issue: The book focuses on a guy named Enele we got to know for 1 paragraph. 1 PARAGRAPH. But suddenly, he’s the star of the show. Even worse, he constantly talks about youth and acquired wisdom when he himself is BARELY IN HIS 20’S. Come on! What is this, the hypocrite show? Not to mention the respect he shows for Jack and Ostin is greater than the respect he has for many of his men! WOW.
My 5th problem is the “capture” Vishal does to get information. EVEN KRUNKED Ostin is still intelligent enough to figure out the truth about things. IN JUST THE LAST NOVEL he was spewing out facts that proved how dang smart he is. And let us not forget the releasing of the rats in the compound (see book 6), AND all of the other times his genius saved their lives.
Problem number 6: Hatch develops attraction to Cassy?!?!?!?! I thought he doesn’t believe in the Elgen marrying. I mean, really really really really really really REALLY lame. That is so not cool. And totally creepy.
Problemo Numero 7: The 17th electric child (which everyone with more than 3 brain cells has figured out is alive) has the most cliche power. SHE CAN DO IT ALL. Who else saw that coming a mile away? Why couldn’t she do something else, like magnetic repulsion (opposite of Kylee, similar to Tessa and Nichelle), or maybe transform to pure energy, or I don’t know, BASICALLY ANYTHING BUT THE ONE HE GAVE HER. Something original.
The 8th issue: Carl Vey is not only alive, but is the freaking head of the resistance besides! Again, who ELSE saw this coming? You couldn’t have made it someone else, like Coonradt? That would’ve been TOTALLY more original and a small percentage of fans would have figured it out.
The 9th problem: One of the things I’ve always liked about the series is that it’s never really pushed an agenda, which is refreshing in a time when writers always seem to be taking a side in some fight. That was spoiled in this book. All of a sudden, there’s this “prophet” who’s “never been wrong before” and it took on this whole religious twist I really didn’t like. I mean, I don’t have a problem with religion of any sorts in books, but it needs to be that way FROM THE START, not the VERY LAST BOOK!!!
The characters in this book are all of the members of the electroclan but Gervaso, Tanner, and Micheal. Book seven is mostly set in Tuvalu, Fiji, and the Joule. It stars right after the battle of Hades island. It may as well have been started on the next chapter there is no introduction it just gets started right in. The Joule is where the electroclan is for a good part of the book trying to get to Fiji. One thing I didn't like is that most of the book is written in a different guy's point of view. It is written in the prime ministers grandson's point of view. There was more about him than the entire rest of the electroclan. After most of the book having been separate near the end everyone regroups in a huge unfinished fortress. Then when everyone knows they are all going to die... Well I will just let you read it and find out for yourself. The main characters in the book were Jack, Ostin, and the prime ministers grandson Enele. There was less of the rest of the electroclan than I would have liked and especially Taylor. The characters don't devolop hardly at all and the electroclan other than Jack and Ostin are on the Joule or one other place the entire book. Enele is all general and doesn't change at all. Ostin has changed a lot since the first book. He is very fit and healthy and isn't as neardy and weird but he is still Ostin. They all now have girl/boy friends and stuff but they didn't really change in this book at all. The last electric child is found but they didn't last very long though, and didn't seem very well devoloped at all and didn't really seem very human at all. I was exepecting a lot more than I got in this book. I loved this book series and I was super excited about the next book and I was super let down! Taylor was my favorite character and there was maybe 10-15 pages worth of Taylor and she was just crying and helpless for all of the book but the last 3 or so pages. Most of the book was about Enele and not the electroclan. Enele is in the very end of the 6th book, but I wish there was more of the electroclan than I got. I thought this was supposed to be about the electroclan and most of all Michael. They didn't even figure out what happened to him untill the very end! I was so dissipointed in this book and I was hoping for a big grand ending to this amazing series and then I was rewarded with a big pile of lame dissipointment!
I have to admit, I wasn't sure about this series when I first started reading it. But, with an intricit plot, thrilling twists, and many moments of nail-biting suspense, I have been proved wrong again and again. This series has kept me up reading many nights with the beautifully written moments of 'OMG WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT'. The Final Spark has an ending that is worthy of the series that will resonate long after you finish the final words. I was completly blown away by this series and highly recommend it.
Michael Vey book seven, The Final Spark, By Richard Paul Evans, is about a boy named Michael Vey. At the end of the sixth book, Michael dies. Or so everyone thinks. His friends, the Electroclan, need to stop the Elgen, which is run by Dr. Hatch. The Elgen are very evil people who want to take over the worlds electricity. Almost all of the members of the Electroclan have these electric powers which are different for everyone. For example, Zeus can make electricity, then throw it like a lightning bolt at his enemies. In the book, they have to work with the native people of the islands to defeat Hatch. Near the end of the book, the Elgen trap them on an island with no boats to escape. when they are about to die, Michael comes back and kills all the Elgen with lightning. Then they go capture Hatch, kill him, then return to their home in Idaho.
One of the main characters of this story is Jack. He does not have electric powers, but is a very valuable member of the Electroclan. In the beginning of the series, he was the bully at his school in Idaho. Two kids he bullied was Michael and his best friend, Ostin. Near the end of the book, Jack and Ostin are about to go down together, fighting the Elgen when Jack tells Ostin how sorry he is and what a great person Ostin is. Ostin does the same, and they both forgive each other. All throughout the series, Jack becomes many great things, such as loyal, trustworthy, brave, and kind. He has learned a lot about friendship and trust in this book, and the rest of the books. Jack has changed so much.
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest books I have ever read, and I am sad that it is over. The book has many ups and downs, and just takes you right into the book, like you are there yourself. Michael Vey is very thrilling, funny, and sometimes even sad. Over all, I recommend this to anyone who loves intriguing books, or just wants a great book to read.
The book “The last spark” is the “last” book in the michael vey series, in this book they continue the story from the the book “Fall of hades”. For the plot Michael and the rest of the electroclan must stop the elgen before they take control the world. If you have read the rest of the series than you will know that the elgen are an electric company they manufacture electric rats that produce electricity for their power plants. The Elgen’s plan is to make the world dependent on their power so they can control the world. And them controlling the the power is a very crucial in this book. In this book they call a “favor” from the philippine navy. And request to use a battle cruiser. And they use it to try neutralize the terrorists known as the electroclan (michael, taylor, and ostin).
The book was well written. Through the 7 books they have greatly developed the characters. The plot wasn’t as good as the other books but it was still very good. “And poof he was gone” in my mind if I went through the things michael went through I would have made shure hatch suffered. I feel that what michael did was too merciful, I don’t know I just feel that It turned into a little kid thing and even though hatch killed all those people tortured them for so long it’s just so lame.
I go to junior high. Superpowers. Corproate nutsos.

It's so bittersweet watching this series end (although we're supposed to get another book in this series?) While this concluding book wasn't the strongest, there were definitely some incredibly satisfying moments. The villain was so horrible in this that I wanted to punch him--especially when he got all pervy over one of the kids.
After years of telling myself I would finish this series, I can't believe it's actually over (for now). I loved the epilogue and how these kids grew up so much over everything they went through. So many lost, but so much love found.
This is truly a gift of a series and I hope that I can find another series like this in the future!
If you love adventure, great character growth, a horribly evil villain, and fun characters, then I think you'll love this series!
I believe this was my best series so far, I really like the final ending where evil (Mr. Hatch) gets terminated from the world from Micheal Vey and his friends!
WARNING: major spoilers I loved the first six books in this series. Fall of Hades immediately became my favorite book in the series after I finished it. I had heard from so many people that The Final Spark was the perfect conclusion, and the best book in the series by far. I had very high expectations, and I know for a fact that I never wanted to love a book more than I wanted to love The Final Spark. But then I read it, and I was so, so disappointed. I think one of the things that upsetted me quite a bit was that the synopsis gave too much away. It gave away over half of the events that occur in the book, which, in my opinion, is too much information for a synopsis to explain. But that's only a tiny flaw compared to the rest of the issues I'm about to explain. This book was 70% filler. Over half of the book was just Enele, this guy we don't meet until the very end of Fall of Hades, explaining military tactics and strategies to all of his men who are trying to stop Hatch once and for all. First of all, we met Enele at the end of Fall of Hades, like I said, and all of a sudden, him and his army are the main focus of the book? Second of all, the entire reason the Electroclan are in the book is so they can take down the Elgen, they don't need this guy bossing all of the Tuvaluans around. Speaking of the Electroclan, the Electroclan were hardly even in the plotline of the story. I don't remember some of the members even having any lines. It mainly focused on Jack and Ostin, which is okay, I loved seeing their friendship really start blossoming, but I strongly believe that in a series finale, all of the characters need to be included, and play a role in trying to take care of the conflict that arouses, instead of shining the spotlight on only two characters from the group. In Fall of Hades, it is revealed that Taylor has the ability to see the future through dreams. I loved this element, because I thought it added a lot of suspense, and it worked really well in Fall of Hades, but it's like the author completely forgot about her ability. It is never mentioned again, and I thought it would've been nice to see how the rest of the Electroclan would've reacted, and discussing how this could benefit them greatly. I felt like Taylor was the only one who was really grieving Michael's loss. The other members were depressed for only a little while, and then they pretty much moved on. I do like that they were trying to just move on, and focus on a new strategy, but the process was just too soon, and it made it a bit unrealistic. Until we get to Taylor, who grieves the loss of Michael regularly, which I thought was more realistic, but it made me wonder why Ostin wasn't grieving as much as Taylor. What I mean by that is that Ostin knew Michael for way longer than Taylor had, and was his best friend for the longest time, but he pretty much just moved on right along with the rest of the Electroclan. After we are done explaining everything about military tactics, and Jack and Ostin rambling, we get on to the floofy stuff, where the Electroclan are being held prisoner by the Elgen. Hatch introduces Zara, the seventeenth electric child, who has the most cliche power; she can replicate the other children's powers. Her introduction didn't make sense to me. Why would Hatch introduce her now when she could've saved their skins so many times before? I bet that if she were introduced a lot sooner, the Elgen certainly would've won by now. But no. It was almost as if the author wasn't planning on her being in the story, but then added her in at the last minute just for the sake of there being a seventeenth electric child. So unnecessary. Hatch then uses Zara's power to replicate Taylor's power to read Cassy's mind to find the whereabouts of Dr. Coonradt (the voice). Hatch thinks Cassy is really hot, which comes out of the blue, and messes things up as to the way I saw Hatch. Before, I saw him as an evil villain determined to bring all of the world's governments under his control, but then I saw him as a completely different person. Someone to kidnaps electric children and comments on their appearances. What? Dr. Coonradt gets captured, because Zara dug deep into Cassy's thoughts, and then Michael's mother is used as bait to lure the true leader of the resistance out of hiding; Carl Vey. I know that everyone thought he was dead, but we never really got to see why people thought he was dead, and what made everyone think that. I would've liked to see who and what started all of these rumors that told about the death of Carl Vey, but instead, he just pops right into the story, like everyone knew all along. Michael shows up, as this "lightning god" and starts murdering all of these people, and appearing out of thin air to get from place to place. Then using his new abilities, he kills Hatch in the most predictable way possible, and no Elgen guards come after him? And now, we're on to the ending. Oh, the ending. So many issues. After Hatch died, everything seemed to go back to normal. And I truly just don't understand how that could happen so quickly with the Elgen, especially with a corporation that big. Wouldn't the generals second in command rise to power and take over? And what about all of the guards and soldiers? Did Welch get released from Cell 25? And then we get to the Electroclan, who go back to school like it never even happened. They said themselves that things would never be the same again, whether they defeated Hatch or not. It's like they just bypassed that statement and pretended like nothing happened in the first place. And what about Michael's ability to dissipate, and Taylor's ability to see the future? They put up a monument for Wade, but completely forget about Tanner and Gervaso, two people who were such a big part of the story in the first books. I'm not saying that I'm opposed to having them put up a monument for Wade, because I think that's great that they are honoring and remembering him. I just don't see why they can't remember Tanner and Gervaso the same way. Gervaso saved them more times than I can count, and Tanner was just one of the best characters, in my opinion. He was so sweet and kind to the rest of the group, and carried so much emtional pain from the crimes Hatch forced him to commit. The ultimate reason why I hate the ending so much is that it only explains what happened to Jack, Ostin, Michael, Taylor, and a bit about Abigail, but not the rest of the Electroclan. This makes me so angry because the other members were such a big part of the story. They helped so much, they did so much, they risked their lives, for crying out loud, and the auther just forgot about them, like they weren't even there at all. The epilogue could've been written a lot differently. You can disagree with me. That is totally fine, you are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine. But yeah, those are my thoughts on this book. It is the bane of my existence, and I hate it so, so much.

My name is Ostin, and Hatch is regrouping his forces after Michael sacrificed himself to destroy the island of Hades. My friends and I stole Hatch's super ship and escaped, but we needed to refuel in Fiji. Unfortunately, our options were limited. Hatch foresaw our plans and captured my friends in the Electroclan, so our ability to stop him is dwindling. My hope right now is to enlist the help of Tuvalu natives to put up some kind of defense. With no weapons or transportation, I'm not sure how we're going to do it. However, something strange happened last night that shook Jack and I. We both had the same dream, but was it really a dream? It seemed impossible, but the message we saw spoke of a "sun god". What does it all mean?
You need to read the previous books before reading this one. This book ended the series, and it was strange to have Michael Vey absent from most of the plot. Also, the natives and Ostin became the central characters in this book. That was the biggest difference I noticed from the previous six editions. I missed having the Glows around, using their electric powers to win the battles. Actually, the whole Electroclan was pretty much nullified by Hatch's RESAT, so more customary tactics were utilized by Ostin. Hatch threatened his usual methods of torture and death, while Ostin and the natives tried to find guns and other weapons. Ostin's never had any super powers, so his superior intelligence was their not-so-secret weapon. The climax of the series was explosive and will please fans of Michael Vey. I read the books as they were being written, and it was hard to wait a year between sequels. Luckily, you'll be able to enjoy them in one continuous string, and I recommend you give them a shot.
