Having met the man, a couple dinners, shared waves and heard his story first hand, i can say that as a surfer for the last 45 years and over 50, this book is a constant reminder that one, you can control your weight, two that you can live healthy if you choose, and three that living healthy allows you the opportunity to live longer and have fun. Surfing to alot of us is a way of life. Doc has more than carved that into stone based on his own life. i can only thank him for his friendship and his words of wisdom over the years and reminding me int he past, "Hey John, that pink stuff will kill you". The book is humorous, enlightening, and will leave a mark on you for life in a very positive way. Surf's up Doc, see you out there!
A polemic against sloth, fat, and passively accepting the path of least resistance, Paskowitz's book, while not brilliant prose, takes a strong stand on what constitutes "health" and offers an unequivocal 5-point plan to acheive it. And he seems to have walked the walk, it's not just hot air. Worth reading for anyone over the age of 40.
