The Justin Trudeau era came crashing to an end on November 8, 2016 when Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. On everything from carbon taxes to Cuba, Canadian policy is suddenly obsolete. Will Trudeau and his advisors realign themselves with our largest trading partner and ally? Or will Trudeau do what his father did — play the role of anti-American gadfly, to the delight of the Third World but the detriment of Canadians? Ezra Levant, the best-selling author of Ethical Oil and other trouble-making books, is here to say what no-one in the liberal media Trudeau vs. Trump is shaping up to be Bambi vs. Godzilla.
Ezra Levant really doesn't like Justin Trudeau. I mean, he really, really, really doesn't like Justin Trudeau. Or the Canadian Liberal Party. Or Muslims, or Chinese, or Cubans, or environmentalists, or Iranians, or Mexicans. Who does he like? Well, Donald Trump, of course. No surprises here.
Mr. Levant, conservative (small "c" in the Canadian political context) gadfly, radio personality, and frequent defendant in a great many defamation lawsuits (most of them won by the plaintiffs), is at his hysterical best in this utterly worthless joke of a book. I think his audience is Canadians, not Americans, so I don't fall into his target audience. Because I've read a book or two on Canada and U.S.-Canadian relations, I thought I'd pick this up to see what's happening in the Great White North. Seemingly, this book was published at or about the time the new president was inaugurated, so it's fairly current. What it isn't is fairly objective.
The story is told in the title: Donald Trump will change everything in Canada and there isn't a damn thing Justin Trudeau or his entourage can do about it. Trump is the anti-Trudeau (or is Trudeau the anti-Trump?). No matter, Trudeau might as well step down or step aside and let the Era of Trump begin.
Trump is going to build that wall! Trump is going to tame the Iranians! Trump is going to skin the Chinese alive! Significantly, I think, Levant covers nearly every trouble spot or adversary in the world except for one glaring omission: Russia. Now I wonder why Levant omitted any mention of Russo-Canadian relations? He reports that there are 1,000 Chinese spies in Canada, but not a single Russian spy, not a single mention of Putin or Ukraine or Crimea? Hmmmmm.
So, if you are an über-Trumpista (the umlaut is intentional, by the way), American or Canadian (or Russian!), you will love this book. I suggest you buy as many copies as possible in order to help Mr. Levant pay for his next defamation settlement.
Update: A friend suggested I elaborate about Mr. Levant's views. Okay. Here goes:
I think Levant believes that Trump will transform Canada mostly by example, that Trumpism will infect Canadians who will come to his view of things.
Canadian politics has always tracked U.S. politics. Issues for Americans quickly become issues for Canada, and the two main political parties, Liberal (e.g., Democrat) and Progressive Conservative (e.g., Republican) tend to follow the leads of their southern cousins.
Here, I think, are some highlights (low-lights?):
Canada must abandon its internationalist foreign policy and become more nationalistic, concentrating on the interests of the Canadians.
Canada should dismantle its relations with Cuba, lay low and not take sides with Mexico against the United States, and support U.S. economic sanctions against China. Canada should join the United States in pushing harder sanctions on Iran and eliminate its financial support for Hamas in Gaza. Canada should demand that the United States end its "cozy" relations with Saudi, help combat an Islamic "genocide" against Christians, and diminish the role of the UN in world affairs.
Canada should eliminate all restrictions on carbon production; forget about global climate change, and end all immigration of Muslims and Hispanics into the country.
Levant wants George Soros prosecuted for sedition, an end to Canada's special treatment of aboriginal peoples, and a crack down on Bombardier, Canada's military industrial complex, like Trump is doing in the United States.
To the best of my ability, I think those are the most important Trump-influenced changes that Levant wants to see in Canada.
Well-researched and interesting arguments used to contrast the vast differences between the two leaders. Not a comprehensive critique, but definitely enough material there to justify significant course adjustment for the current government; 39.5% of the popular vote calls for one that benefits and is in the best interest of all its citizenry.
I thoroughly enjoyed this well researched and documented book.
I already knew about Trudeau's ideological views of the world; he is far from the (leftist) intellectual that his father was - in fact, I would not even rate him as a intellectual. He is a globalist. He believes in sacrificing Canadian taxpayer money and Canadian values to his causes.
He wants to look good for his international fans so he will do what it takes to get their good wishes.
He is a poster boy for altruism. He hides altruism's ugly soul with his good looks and his fake compassion to suck people in.
The book provides links to Obama's Alinsky Rules for Radicals youth formation organization (which has made inroads into Canadian youth) and identifies his (Marxist) brother as one of the architects behind his thinking.
Trump haters and other leftists will probably have meltdowns reading this well researched and documented book.
75. Trumping Trudeau: How Donald Trump will change Canada even if Justin Trudeau doesn’t Know it Yet by Ezra Lezant While I despise Levant and Rebel Media, I read this to see what the enemy is up to, and it is no good. Levant has produced a collection of half-truths and untruths that are next to libel, a concept that Levant does not seem to understand, although he has had to pay several huge legal fees recently. I really don’t feel Levant belongs in Canada, but I think his strident right-wing views would not let him be the big fish in a small pond, merely a tadpole. This book should not be under filed under “politics” – it is sheer fantasy. Highly unrecommended unless you enjoy pain.
Oh Ezra.... I think he totally missed his calling as a stand-up comedian. Loved this book. The layering of fact, fiction, fact, fiction keeps you on your toes the whole book through. The best part is reading this after the fact, and seeing how unproductive Trump has been as a leader, contrary to predictions in this book. Very amusing! Would have given it 5 stars for enjoyment, but needed more editing. Not polished.
I met Ezra several years ago and was knocked out by his enthusiasm andknowlege of politics.Liberals, sjw's,snowflakes, progressives will hate this.I did learn more about Wonderboy(the Canadian P.M.)then I really cared to.Simply put,the book is a Levant rant. But that's what he does.
I have heard Ezra Levant discuss many political topics of Canadian and American interest online and on television. Levant receives lots of flack for being conservative and looking at news with a right-wing angle in Canada but at least he is honest about his leanings. Levant is critical of many left-wing politicians but he is prudent and fair. I am not a fan of PM Trudeau for many reasons but I was curious to read about how his selfie style would match up with President-Elect Trump's boisterous personality. This book does not simply focus on Trudeau's many faults and shortcomings, but instead it focuses on the US-Canadian relationship and contrast between Trudeau's globalism versus Trump's Make America Great again agenda. This is a very quick read and I would be interested in reading a more in-depth analysis of the topic , perhaps when Trump's one year mark is reached.
What you can learn from "Trumping Trudeau: How Donald Trump will change Canada even if Justin Trudeau doesn't know it yet" (which is he did a good job at explaining): 1. Why Trudeau is a bit of an idiot 2. Why Trump is pretty smart What you will not learn: 1. How Donald Trump will change Canada even if Justin Trudeau doesn't know it yet.
Also, I know Ezra probably only wrote this in a couple of weeks to get it out before the Inauguration, but a bit more editing would've been nice. Nothing worse than spelling mistakes in a book.
Some interesting thoughts. However it is only a hard right political stance criticizing the left. Ezra is no better than what he criticizes however he has a few good points.
This book argues that Canada has a PM who is good for nothing, except for exploiting the country to build his "Trudeau Brand". "Little potato"- as Trudeau is now nicknamed in China- is all about appearance not substance (well, just think of Maryam Monsef or Gerald Butts or Chrystia Freeland!). This is not surprising from a substitute drama teacher!
Trudeau's (and his cabinet) ineptness becomes acutely pronounced following the election of Trump and the failure of Clinton. While Trump is "packing his cabinet with world-class CEOs and formal generals who eat nails for breakfast", Traudeau's choices are about gender, race and sexual orientation quotas! Being at odds with Trump in almost everything from Carbon tax to Islamic state, the bottom line is that Trudeau's government will be eaten alive and chewed!
And who will pay the price? Thirty six million Canadians who will see brains, jobs, money and investors crossing border in exchange for illegal immigrants, and terrorists!
The book claims that the hoped for Justin Trudeau era has crashed with the election of Trump. The only choice in the interest of Canada is that Trudeau abandons his left wing pseudo-hero status and partner with Trump.
Whether you agree or disagree with the arguments of this book, it is serious. Canada can indeed pay a very dear price!
This is the first book I've read on Canadian politics. While I don't agree at certain points with the author, especially some defences of Trump, the analysis of Trudeau, I feel, is quite accurate and something which I have observed myself. While the book is outdated in the context of which it was written, keeping aside the Trump part, it is still a decent window into the current leadership of Canada. Dynasty politics has hardly helped any nation and there is no reason Canada should be an exception. When leadership is based on who the person is and not what the person has done/achieved, it creates problems even at the places where none should exist. And the way things have turned out for Canada at the international stage is a testimony for that. It's a good read, although one should keep in mind the possible bias of the author.
There is so much information packed into this book but Ezra has a great writing style and a sense of humor that comes out. There were a few parts that made me laugh. It is a really good book every Canadian should read.
This latest book from Ezra Levant is his take on the transitions of power of our two countries, Canada and the USA. With Donald J. Trump now in the White House, how will it affect Canada? It's a compelling read and if Ezra is anything, he is passionate. He is also a Trump fan, but hes' fair to Justin Trudeau, our PM. It is a trademark of Levant that, rather than throwing out scurrilous accusations, he asks good questions and makes intelligent suggestions. Levant is not a troll, thought most of his critics are.
This is not a long read but it is full of interesting facts. In brief, a comparison is made between the two current leaders of our nations, and the conclusion is that if Canada wishes to get along better with our closest neighbor, there is a way to do that, and it is not the way in which Trudeau has been behaving so far. Justin's own father, Pierre, once famously said that living next to the USA was like “sleeping with an elephant”. Trump is now the elephant and to paraphrase Ezra, there will be a lot of twitching and grunting if we don't learn to co-operate. Levant gives us a stark yet honest portrait of these two men and their different styles. We will be overwhelmed, he says, by this new America, but it will be or should be a good thing. Trump is a hard worker, he goes on, while Trudeau is a dilettante and a self-centered playboy. Trump is practical, Trudeau is emotional and shallow. There are hints that this should have been a Harper-Trump fellowship, not a continuation of the sick Trudeau saga.
Levant is more gracious with this topic than I would be. At times, he almost appears to be politically correct. He claims that he thinks Justin Trudeau is not a Muslim, but then he records the numerous times where Trudeau has entered the camp of Islam in every possible manner, in every possible place, with every possible encouragement to them. My own conclusion is that Trudeau is indeed a Muslim, but I will cut Ezra Levant a lot of slack here because he has cut these men a lot of slack while being fair and even with both of them. Levant wants what is best for both countries and, he says, that may very well be how Trudeau learns to get along the rest of the conservative world out there rather than shamelessly promoting his nonsensical left-wing agendas. Otherwise, Trudeau (and we Canadians along with him) will get trumped by this new USA, as the title suggests.
