I’m the one thing she doesn’t want…

I’m tall, dark, handsome, rich as f*ck and I’m a devil in the sheets. Not to brag, but I’m a pretty great catch. I’m also trouble.

Then she walks back into my life. Last time I saw her she was just a girl. Now she’s a full grown woman with curves. Just one look and I go hard.

Turns out she needs help, fast. And I’m the only one who can give it to her. I’m not the type of guy to take advantage. But f*ck me, she’s in my head now and there’s no chance I’m ever letting her go.

She’s been burned before and now she’s not taking any risks. I can’t say I blame ever, but if she ever finds out my secret, I know I’ll lose her forever.

Too bad I’m the one thing she needs.

This one was just OK for me. It had the bones to ba a really good story and I see the potential in this author. But this one was a bit all over the place for me. The hero starts out as one thing and then morphs into a completely different guy halfway through the book. The guy he becomes is actually the WAY more interesting persona and I wish he had been THAT guy through the entirety of the book.

My other issue was I just didn't feel a connection between Chase or Sophia. One, Sophia was a bit of a bitch IMO and I wanted to throat punch her throughout the book. On top of that these two really don't spend a lot of time together, so the "I love yous" were a bit hard to comprehend.

There were also a few "personal pet peeves" things going on for me. One...the cover didn't match the hero AT ALL (no tats or piercings mentioned). As well as their names being mentioned WAY too many times throughout the book (CHASE - 446 times and SOPHIA - 400 times) according to my e-reader search function. It really started to distract me as the book went on.

Like I said, the bones were definitely there so I would be willing to give this author another try.

**ARC generously provided in exchange for honest review**

I often take caution when I receive offers to review books from first time offers as I admit I love to read and like my comfort zone of knowing I am going to get my high…my escape within the pages of the fiction. Every once in a while though, I feel it’s a great opportunity to discover new works and to read a new author’s debut. I found the blub put out by Kara Sparks’s new book Trouble to be quite intriguing and I was hoping for a great escape. While I found this new author to have great potential, I found Trouble to have quite a few difficulties!

Trouble is a “second-chance” type romance of sorts with the billionaire bad boy theme and some mafia suspense tossed into the mix. Sophia Gold is a small town girl working hard with her bestie to overcome her rough past that put her in a world of heartbreak and debt. She is a talented baker with the skills to make it but she is drowning every day. Her wishes and dreams may come true when old friend/crush Chase King comes home to her small town. Sexier than ever, the old flames seem to be fanned when he sees the bakery as a good investment…or maybe just the baker herself!

I was cautiously optimistic with the direction of the story however I found connecting to the characters to be difficult. I appreciated old crushes and definitely attraction, but Chase and Sophia seemed to have this long lost lover feel to them with no real past other than the “brother’s best friend” tidbit. There were just 3 scenes with them together where there was any kind of developing emotional connection or intimacy and it was quite shallow. There was definite steam a time a two but again it seemed fabricated and forced. I think that was a struggle for me with the missing deep emotional bond. There was never enough interaction present to give a solid feel of “couple” as they were either arguing at the lack of communication, past lies, or not wanting to feel used. It was kind of an odd feel as if I missed the point when they actually became a real couple, unless sleeping together one time makes a relationship.

The writing in the story lacked a bit of smooth flow and was choppy at times. There were some pivotal moments in the book such as the first time they were intimate or the point when the drama and suspense came to a boiling point but instead of going deeper into the story…fueling the fire…the scene just ended and the next chapter started a new day. It felt rushed and unfinished. It was like pieces of the story were cut out and the reader was left trying come up with what may have happened.

I wanted to go into Trouble and get lost. I love a good millionaire bad boy and a small town girl. I love when dark pasts shape characters. I love a bit of suspense and danger that makes the love story seem so much more vital than ever. I saw moments were Trouble was picking up and I was finding my place in the book, but then I was left wanting more from the characters, the writing and the story as a whole. I am hoping the Ms Sparks continues to write…she has fabulously creative mind and I know her next book will be more!!!

Sophia is in trouble because her ex=boyfriend created a lot of debt in her name. She has started a new bakery business that could become a big success if she just had enough cash to get by a few months. Then she gets notice that the bank is foreclosing on her house. Her brother also gives her the news that his best friend is returning home a rich man. Sophia has always had a crush on Chase but he never noticed his friend's little sister. Her brother suggests that Sophia ask Chase for an investment.
Chase is returning home tired and disillusioned. In the city, he has a bad reputation and people only seem to want him for his money. He is glad to return home. He is happy to see Sophia again who he had a long-time crush on. When his friend suggested that Chase invest in her business, Chase is happy to have an excuse to be in Sophia's life. When the two get together to plan the deal, feelings get out of hand and they end up in bed together. Now Sophia is uncomfortable accepting his money unless they go back to a purely professional relationship. Chase has to work hard to change her mind but just as things are going his way, trouble from the city pops up.
This is a great story with lots of feeling and passion. There were some surprises. I voluntarily received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.

>Book review – Trouble

>I am an independent reviewer. This is a standalone romance with an HEA. Chase left his hometown poor and returned a billionaire with a shady past. As he reacquaints himself with friends from his past, he sees the one love of his life, Sophia. Sophia owns a less than successful bakery and Chase decides to invest in it. There are the usual fun side characters and a dangerous ex-wife. I had a hard time imagining any scenario where Chase would marry that strange of a woman.

>The story is exciting and the romance is hot, showing off Chase’s alpha side. I did not like the epilogue. For some reason, the jump to the future was too severe. I felt the epilogue was meant to be tongue in cheek, but the story was not a comedy. The book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving it 4 stars. Leave off the epilogue and I would have given the story 5 stars.

Trouble by Kara Sparks

This is the debut book by Kara Sparks and has all the aspects of a romance we have all come to love.
This is the story of Sophia and Chase. Sophia is a small bakery owner trying to make her way in this crazy world. Sophia is struggling to make ends meet and keep the bakery after Duncan created a mess of her finances. She has 1 brother Tom who is a nurse at the local hospital and Chase’s best friend from high school. She is in dire need of funds to keep from losing the family home and her business.

We learn Chase moved away from Aurora Heights after school and moved to upstate New York where he became a billionaire. This story takes place 10 years later when Chase decides to move back to Aurora Heights and look for real estate to continue to grow his company. He is trying to start over after his failed marriage and to get away from his past.

I found the book an interesting read but I really didn’t get the sense of the chemistry between Sophia and Chase. Their relationship is a little bit complex because they were not together in high school and have not seen each other for 10 years. We do however learn they both had crushes on the other but never acted on it.

Despite the lack of chemistry between these two I did get a sense of them caring for each however, this book has a lot of the traits I look for in a book lies, love, murder, mafia ties, secrets and psycho ex’s to add that little bit of bitchiness into the mix. I have read several books over the last few months and was able to see what was coming for the most part. That is not to say there weren’t a few surprises.

I would recommend giving Trouble a chance and encourage Kara to keep writing.

This book is about a small town called Aurora. The main characters are Sophia, Roxie, Chase and Tom. They grew up in this small town that they call home. Sophia owns a bakery and her best friend and business partner is Roxie. Tom is Sophia’s brother who works at the local hospital as a nurse. Tom and Chase have been best friends since high school. Chase left 10 years ago to make a career for himself and is now back and is a billionaire. Sophia and Chase have always had feelings for each other but neither one of them knew. Sophia is having money troubles due to an ex-boyfriend who took advantage of her and put her into so much debt she is struggling to get out. When things get really bad Tom suggests that Sophia talk to Chase about investing in her business. Will he invest in her business and if so what will it cost her? Will there be a romance between Sophia and Chase? Can you always put the past behind you? Can people from your past ruin your future. Does love win out in the end? If I told you all of these answers would you want to read the book? Probably not but I can tell you that you should purchase and read it for yourself. It is truly a good book and a very fast read because you won’t want to put it down. I voluntarily read this book through an ARC program.

I just had to read this book when I read the blurb about it. I have to say that I enjoyed it and can't wait to see what else this author has in store.

I thought that things were going to good for Chase King and Sophie Gold. They both had crushes on each other when they were younger. Chase is best friends with Sophie's brother. I liked seeing these two hide their feelings for each other and just give in. I have to say that I was disappointed in Chase. He gave in to his ex and ruined Sophie. I don't know how he could do that.

I have to say that the thing that happened between Chase and his ex turned me off from the book and caused me to give it a four star. The author did a great job writing the story and the characters had a great chemistry. I felt that there was more to this book than what we got.

I voluntarily read this book for an honest review.

Sophia & Chase had a crush on each other in high school, but never acted on it. Chase moved to New York & became a multi billionaire. Now after 10 years & a divorce he decides to return to Aurora Heights to grow his company & get away from his past.
In the meantime Sophia struggling with her small bakery after Duncan made a mess with her finances. Her brother Tom, who's a nurse at the local hospital, was Chace's best friend in high school. When Chase sees Sophia again for the 1st time in 10 yrs, he can't believe his eyes. He's instantly attracted to her. This book contains a bit of everything...love,suspense,betrayal, lust & blackmail. I really enjoyed this book from Kara Sparks & can recommend it.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. The story wasn't bad. I enjoyed it, in fact, but there was something about the characters that I could not get into. The relationship felt like it was only surface deep. I wanted to like the female lead, but I just couldn't/ I she annoyed me for some reason, which was the main reason I didn't thoroughly enjoy the story, but I enjoyed it enough to read on. I even enjoyed the male lead a bit, regardless of his big ass ego, but something fell flat for me. I think that this story was great considering the fact that this was a debut novel. I feel the author has potential to create better stories in the future.

It was a good story but…

The book needs editing. There’s a lot of weird dialogue/sentences with either wrong words or missing words. At first, I was ok with it but it happened so often during the book it became rather frustrating. I don’t like having to guess what the author meant. Not sure if I’ll try another from this one…

Chase King left Aurora 10 years ago, He made himself a billionaire and has finally come home, He plans on taking his Real Estate business
back home and helping to make his hometown more. He wants to keep it with a small town appeal but will buy up as much as he can, He also has decided it is time to make Tom's (his best friend from home) littler sister Sophie his, He always had a thing for Sophie but knew that because she was Tom's little sister he couldnt make her his back then, NOW things have changed.
Sophie has had so much go wrong in her life, she is struggling to keep her Bakery Hot Bun's above water, all due to her ex who stole her credit cards and maxed them out, which ruined her credit and left her with a HUGE debt.
When Sophie finds out that Chase King is coming home she is beside herself, When her brother Tom sets up a business meeting for her to ask
Chase to invest in her bakery things heat up, Chase is arrogant and has a very dark past that slowly comes to light, and OH boy does he have one nasty ex wife as well. This book has it all, secrets, lies, the mafia HOT HOT scenes and a great HEA.

Great book, Could not put down, read most of book in one night if I didn't have to work I think I would of stayed up to see what happens. Great Pace in story. So many different emotional stuff in this story. The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 is because of editing issues, where miss spelled words, wrong words, and words left out. Tired of the city life, Chase returns home with two goals: bring development to his home town and to win over Sophia . Sophia is struggling to keep her business afloat after an ex run off after racking up her debt. After offering to invest in her company, Chase has one stipulation: a date. After giving it some thought and agreeing, the two spend an intimate night together until Sophia decides that it won't work and is scared to open her heart. When his past comes back to haunt them, will Sophia be able to handle it? Will she give him a second chance?

This was definitely a great read and honestly I loved the two main characters. There were twists and turns and things that I definitely didn't expect. One big thing with me with this type of book is everything was wrapped up, you weren't left with questions on what happened to who and if they got their complete HEA. Excellent book and cannot wait for more from this author!

Trouble is Kara Sparks’ debut novel with a bad boy billionaire romance. I do love a good bad boy romance and felt that while this story plot was great and had well developed characters, I didn’t “feel” the chemistry between Sophia and Chase and felt it was almost forced somehow. However, you could tell despite all their hang-ups and outside interference, that they care for each other. This book did have all the makings for a great read though: suspense, lies, intrigue, secrets, and whole lot of crazy from psycho ex’s. There were some steamy tidbits, but again, I didn’t “feel” it between them at times. I felt, a few scenes needed more elaboration to fully capture me in the story, rather than seeming to end abruptly. Still a great and enjoyable read and I will definitely check our Kara’s future reads!

Sophia Gold is a struggling bakery owner who is becoming desperate in order to keep her bakery open. Her prayers may be answered when her brother’s best friend and her high school crush returns to town, Chase King. He’s still as hot and charismatic as he was in high school…more so now even! Chase is self-made billionaire who returns to Aurora Heights to expand his company and to start over from his failed marriage and troubled past. He sees Sophia’s bakery as a good investment, plus there is the potential of getting into her hot little pants!
Their story is full of ups and downs with danger and suspense and an unrequited love aspect thrown in. All the makings for a thrilling bad boy romance, where the bad boy finds the one girl who can make him whole again!

Sophia just wants to be successful in her business, but after her ex racked up debt in her name, the bank is breathing down her neck. Chase left Aurora to try and make it in his own, ten years later he's a billionaire and coming home to try and get the girl he wanted all those years earlier. When they try to connect business and their pasts get in the way.

Chase and Sophie were both endearing, I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but I must admit the epilogue wasn't my favorite part.

I received a free copy of this book and chose to VOLUNTARILY review it. My review is completely honest, and a non-incentivized review.

LOVE THAT SIZZLES WITH A BIT OF DANGER

This is a romantic tale that has been waiting to spark for over a decade; the intriguing plot, vivid scene descriptions, untold secrets, action, gripping suspense, camaraderie, humor, life-threatening incident, jealously, engaging dialogue, and toe-curling fiery romance keep you turning pages to find out what happens next. There is a heavenly happy ever after but all the truths and hurdles must be conquered first.

Chase left the town of Aurora over ten years ago and built a billionaire business; now he has come home, has a bit of a shady past and some secrets too. In high school, he desired his best friend’s sister Sophia but kept his feelings to himself; now he is determined to make her his. Sophia owns a bakery which is in need of an investor to keep her business from going under. When she learns that her high school crush is back home to stay memories of desire flow through her. Chase’s past comes crashing into his life with a vengeance and threatens to ruin any chance he has with Sophia.

I found this to be a most entertaining read for a debut book. The relationship between Chase and Sophia did have its ups and downs but the bond that developed between them is convincing; there is much-devoted love. Chase is definitely a valiant hero. The author shows that in a relationship honesty is extremely important; without it there is nothing. I adored the ending of this story. {I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy}. Without reservations, I recommend this book.

Sophia is running out of time to get the money she needs to save her bakery and her house after her ex left her high and dry with mountains of debt. Now that the rich and sexy as sin Best friend to her brother comes home, she needs his help and wants more than just his money. She wants him. But he comes with a past that is unsavory and leaves her wondering if he's worth the trouble she's in for.
Chase is trying to escape the life he had in the big city by moving back home. For some reason, however, Trouble followed him and is getting in the way of a life he wants with the one girl that got away. Now he has a chance to help her but his secret and past plan to tear them apart.

The story was good. The characters were interesting, and the story line was simple and not to over dramatic. I thought the characters were good together but there was something missing. Not sure what I just felt like they weren't connected in a deep and soul touching way. The writing flowed easily, only some minor mistakes that a little editing could fix. The only thing I wasn't fond of was how some of the past didn't really fit with real world reality. Chase's dark past wouldn't have been so simple and the ex l should have had a little more explanation why she went so psychotic like she did. Where was the trigger? I had hoped for more explanation for that. However the story as a whole was good.

This is the story of Sophia and Chase. Chase is a rich bad boy with a hidden past. Sophia owns a bakery, but has fallen on hard times due to some unfortunate circumstances. Sophia is the younger sister of Tom, who happens to also be Chase’s best friend. Chase and Sophia have also both had feelings for one another without the other one knowing since they were in school. They haven’t seen each other in ten years. This is their story and their chance at love.
Chase comes back to Aurora, changed after being gone for so long. He is now a very successful businessman, and just so happens to be Sophia’s last chance to save her business and family home. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, Sophia has debt piling up. She needs help, and fast. Chase offers to invest in her bakery, but that isn’t all Chase wants from Sophia. He just needs for her to be on board with the idea also.
I hate spoilers….and even though I want to keep typing, I must stop. This book will make you laugh at the banter back and forth between the characters and it will make you get to the edge of your seat to see what happens next. I’m lucky that I was able to read it first. Give Kara Sparks and Trouble a try, you won’t be disappointed. I volunteered to review an ARC of Trouble.

Drama, angst-filled

Chase King has moved back home to Aurora Heights. He left ten years ago as a young man, now at 30 he’s a real estate magnate. But trouble follows him from New York City, and Chase is determined to find out the cause.

Sophia Gold is his best friend’s sister he never forgot. She owns Hot Buns bakery, but still trying to get out under the overwhelming debt her ex left her with. Can she trust Chase with his generosity and his willingness to help? But Chase is hiding secrets, and Sophia is unsure they can go on without honesty and the truth behind his secrets.

Plot is okay but it dragged on until towards the ending. I found the dialogue and intimate scenes were a bit dull, so the story fell flat for me. I just didn’t feel a real connection between these two characters.

Trouble: A Dark Billionaire Romance by Kara Sparks
This is Chase and Sophia's story. Sophia and Chase grew up together. They each had a crush on each other but never acted on it maybe because Chase was Sophia's brother's best friend. They have not seen each other for about ten years. Chase is now a billionaire and Sophia is struggling after a bad relationship to get her bakery going.

Sophia and Chase's paths cross again. The chemistry is stronger than ever between them. Chase has some pretty dark secrets from his past and wants to keep it that way. There are others that don't want to keep Chase's secrets. Will Chase's secrets prevent them from finding true love?

This is a steamy, emotional, and suspenseful read. The author has written the story where the reader is able to feel Chase and Sophia's emotions. I really enjoyed their story! The supporting characters added to the story too. A very entertaining read.

FYI, includes mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
