"Goose, your ears are missing," Fox says one morning. And, when Goose peers into the pond at her reflection, she realizes Fox is right. She can't see her ears. All a-flutter, she tries to borrow a pair of ears from her friends, but none of them are the right size. Then Goose meets Peacock, who just happens to be selling ears. What luck! Goose is so excited she doesn't notice Peacock's pointy ears, his bushy tail and his sharp, sharp teeth. Can Goose's friends save her from this terrible trick? From the author of the Book Sense Children's Pick, While Angels Watch, and the illustrator of the #1 New York Times bestseller, Me and My Dad!
1) This is such a cute book with very well illustrated pictures, as well as a suspenseful, yet funny storyline for your students. It was like any other day at the pond, where goose and fox were getting themselves a drink of water. Fox looked and Goose and told her "You don't have any ears!", which then led Goose to proceed to look at her reflection in the water noticing in fact she did not have any ears. Goose then went around to all of the other animals looking for the right ears, but just could not find the right ones. She then saw a pretty peacock that was shouting out "Ears for sell!", so she proceeded to go over the peacock's house and see if those ears would fit her. Little did she know this peacock had pointy ears and sharp teeth. 2) Grade Level: Kindergarten-2nd grade Age Level: Ages 4 and up 3) Appropriate classroom use of this book could be used for a reading lesson as a group read 4) Individual students who might benefit from this book might be children that love to see vivid and bright pictures while reading a book, or students that like cause and effect books 5) This could be used in small group use to teach cause and effect through the different parts of the story, stop and ask the students to write down what they think is going to happen next and then all discuss their answers at the end and why they thought that. 6) This could be used as whole class read aloud by letting the students participate. This is a great book which is bright and colourful! Would be great to use in a key stage one class as a shared read, it is humorous and so would be great to act out using stuffed animals. This book shows a great cause and effect relationship and has a happy ending.
I really liked the pictures in this book. All the animals looked so fuzzy, soft and cute. The story was okay. A fox tricks a goose into thinking she lost her ears.
This is a great book to read that will make kids laugh. It's funny and has great illustrations! Very bright and colorful. This story could be used to help them learn retellings and remembering the story from start to finish. It could also be good for questioning.
