The End has been revised and converted from first-person to third-person narrative with added content to reflect the hero's point of view.
Sometimes the end is only the beginning.
Almost two years after her husband dies, Ellie Marston opens the file for Tab’s last manuscript, a thriller so compelling it reads like a true story. His manuscript needs an ending, so Ellie writes the obvious conclusion. The same morning she types The End, her career as an assistant district attorney falls apart. Accused of throwing the high profile Malone case, she resigns in disgrace.
The only friend Ellie has left in the criminal justice system is Det. Paul Santiago. While she was married to Tab, she squashed her growing feelings for Paul, determined to make her deteriorating marriage work. Paul’s heart is breaking for Ellie. He hid his feeling for her as he watched from the sidelines while her husband betrayed her over and over again. Now, Paul has a chance to help her mend her broken heart, but will she let him?
Together, Paul and Ellie attempt to uncover a conspiracy in the District Attorney’s office, the set up that forced her to resign. The key to the mystery is hidden in the pages of Tab’s manuscript, and Ellie’s added ending is the only logical conclusion to the story. Danger swirls around them as they step further and further into the conspirator’s trap.
Where the road to happily ever after takes a suspenseful detour.
Denise has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her moods but also encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Accounting is a skill she learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit. Besides writing paranormal suspense, she holds a part-time job in public accounting and enjoys traveling, reading, and scrapbooking.
She wrote her first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious rip-off of the last romance novel she had read. She's been writing off and on ever since, and with twenty-two stories already published and fourteen still available for purchase, she plans to continue releasing new books for years to come. In 2015, her Haunted Hearts series sold over 19,000 copies, placing the series on Amazon's best-seller list of ghost thrillers for over a year.
First off, let me just say that this was the kind of book that kept me saying to myself, "just one more chapter and then I'll go to sleep." I ended up staying awake until 4 in the morning to finish it the day I started, thinking upon going to bed I'd just read for an hour and put the book down. It is a fast-paced read that keeps you turning the pages.
Ellie's life has plenty of bad luck in it, and she can't believe how it keeps piling up. The widow is suddenly facing unemployment because she refused her boss' advances, and it becomes clear someone is stalking her and searching for something connected to her husband's death...she just has no clue what. Hot and hunky detective, Paul, has been her friend for two years, but after her husband's death their relationship started transitioning into something Ellie's not sure she's ready to face. Paul seems more than willing to protect her from whoever is after her, but here comes more trouble for poor Ellie - suspicions arise surrounding Paul and she's not sure she can trust her one confident and the man she's falling for.
Sometimes I became a touch annoyed with Ellie and her easy anger at Paul, how she switched so quickly between love for him and anger with him, but this was a minor problem. Also, the plot was pretty intricate with a lot of characters ending up being more important than I thought they would be. At the end, I had a hard time remembering who certain people were. This could be a failing on my part, not the author's, because I was reading so late into the night and the conclusion of this one did surprise me. Just be prepared for a twisted plot. I actually thought I had it figured out for about half the book, and was a bit disappointed I had, and then I was blindsided (in a good, logical way) as to who the culprit actually was.
Other than Ellie's occasional strange behavior toward Paul, I found the chemistry and sexual tension between them to be hot and enjoyable to read. I loved the scenes with Paul in them the most, whether they were tender moments or danger filled. When Ellie finally became honest with herself, I could understand and feel her hesitancy and agony over what to believe and how she should feel.
I would say this story is mixed pretty well between suspense/mystery plot and romance plot, and I was happy with the way each concluded. There is no swearing or outright sex in this book. I found it to be a sexy, tense, page turner that I just couldn't put down until I reached the end. Denise Moncrief continues to grow as an author and I look forward to more of her work!
Moncrief’s novel has all of the markings of a great suspense novel – mysterious deaths, messages encrypted in something mundane and obvious, a heroin torn between her present and past, not to mention clandestine meetings.
I won this book in a giveaway and I found the book to be a very enjoyable read. The book kept me guessing to the very end. There were plenty of suspects and the author kept feeding you new information all through the book. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Moncreif.

Ellie Marston. Assistant district attorney. Widower. Paul Santiago. Sergeant. Dark brown hair. Mustache.
Romantic suspense. 1st POV.
The formating is well done. There are spacing between paragraph. Easier to read.
The start intrigued me. I love the writing style, i could tell this would be a good one. Mystery writen in 1st POV is fullfiling its calling, of what should it be. The suspense experience would be more all out, told in 1st POV.
Hello there, Marston! It has been a long time since i met a kick-ass heroine. Added her to my favourite heroine list. Dead husband manuscript. Propositioned by her boss' boss, with a blackmail regarding her career path. Sure her life is so heavy.
MC met in Chapter 2. But their attraction went way back from before, when the female MC still has a husband. They met through work, assistant district attorney with a police detective investigating a same case.
The book builds on strong conversation. Without that the character seems impersonal. Accomplished storyline, mature enough to be not commented or criticized on. I could just read it without being ticked off by some storyline issues, enjoy where the storyline brought me. Flowing nicely, tough a bit slow because of the detailed naration for such a shortie novel.
Presley, hmmm.
