In the center of the courtyard of a medieval church stands a single block of marble. On top of the marble lies a heavy black anvil. Struck deep through them both is a glittering sword.Whoever can remove the sword from the stone is the rightful king of Britain. Brave knights, important lords, and strong men from across the kingdom all try and fail. Then one steps forward whose touch frees the sword like magic. But could the next king of Britain really be...a young boy?
Jane B. Mason grew up in a large family in northern Minnesota. She has written books for kids of all ages under many names and on many subjects, among them ghosts, Jedi, detective duos, princesses, twins, mean girls, and slam books.
Jane has lived in the midwest and on both coasts, but appears to have settled in Oakland, California, and writes almost every day at either a friend's dining room table or a little studio in her back yard, where she has a purple loveseat, a whole lotta books, and an odd selection of trinkets she has unwittingly been collecting since she was a child.
1. The story begins with the high king and queen of Britain. King Arthur and Queen Egrane. One day they had a son, named Arthur. Both the King and the Queen decided to raise him away from the dangers in the kingdom. Arthur was raised by a wizard, Merlin, away from his biological parents. In front of the house where Arthur lived, there was a sword in the stone. Arthur brought the sword from the stone for his foster brother. In the sword there was an engrave “Whoever lifts this sword shall be the high king of Britain.” Everyone tried to pull the sword from the stone with all their might one by one but it was to no avail. Arthur stepped up and gave it a try and the sword hilted without any effort, the result was the same every time Arthur tried.
2. Arthur was Sir Accolon’s prisoner and was challenged in a duel with Sir Accolon. Arthur’ sister Morgan has sent him the sword which he pulled out from the stone. In the battle Sir Accolon was seriously injured and was bleeding profusely. He somehow managed to go to his house and died the following day. Arthur remained victorious, lateron he was crowned as the king of Britain. King Arthur’s court kept on seeking a champion but could not find one. Finally, in a duel King Arthur met with Gadwin and awarded him knighthood.
This book reminds me of all the books I read while growing up. It is a well written book for boys.

King Arthur was a pretty good book. It is a bought a young boy who suddenly becomes king. In the book it shows the adventures of Arthur and the adventures of the knights who serve in Arthur's kingdom. For the most part the knights and Arthur's adventures are pretty interesting, but others can be pretty boring. Overall I would give the book a 3 star rating because it wasn't the most exciting book I've read but it also wasn't the most boring.
It was a good reminder of all the great stories I read when growing up. But I do like the stories of the hollow hills and the "Mists of Avalon" even more. This book is a little to low a level for my classroom, but my daughter's classroom will be a very good place for this book.
THIS BOOK!!!! so I am a preteen and are now just getting back into reading books and this book was A verrrryyyyyy!!! ENTERTAINING after reading this I have learned that I love medieval books AND I AM BECOMING A BOOK 🤓
I loved it. I don't know why I didn't read it as soon as my mom bought it for me. I got the time to read it because I was bored without any internet in the house haha
This book is for young middle school students. it's short & simple. In my opinion, King Arthur's legend is a must. It's a an English Folklore legacy & it's filled with the good & honest virtues that these traditional stories usually have. I read this book to achieve the knowledge of it & to be able to understand the basis of King Arthur's ancient tale.
I felt this book was very interesting and exciting. It was interesting and exciting because the book had many points of views had different people and a lot of little battles. My favorite part was when they were sitting around the round tables and all the knights were telling stories of their adventures.
My boys would rate this five stars! They so enjoyed the many adventures of the different knights of Arthur's court and already know what they want to be for Halloween!
I enjoyed this book, but if I were reading it as a kid, I would not have liked it because it is boring and very factual about the stories of King Arthur.
