The Last Valkyrie

Rate this book
What used to be Antarctica is no more. Shifted to the equator, the continent, now known as Antarktos, has thawed and bloomed. Endless ice has given way to lush tropical jungles, and all the people now living here are protected and led by Solomon Ull Vincent, the Last Hunter and King of Antarktos. My father. I’ve been told that all the creatures of Antarktos, exotic and untamed, howled at the moment of my birth. If that wasn’t intimidating enough, I’ve also been told that I was born to be a hunter, that the blood coursing through my veins destined me to fight mankind’s most ancient enemy—the Nephilim, half-human, half-demon monsters determined to exterminate humanity. My older sister, Aquila, thinks it all sounds glorious, but I don’t want it. Any of it. I prefer charcoals and a drawing pad to my Norse hammer. So I choose to ignore the stories. My heritage terrifies me. But when Aquila is kidnapped and dragged to the underworld to be broken and corrupted, our guardian, Zuh, is severely wounded and my father isn’t there to save them—I’m the only one who can. From the monster-filled caves beneath Antarktos to the halls of Valhalla, I must embrace my heritage, face the fears that hold me hostage and save my sister before she kills our father. To save my family, and Antarktos, I must become a hunter, or perhaps something more... My name is Norah Kainda Vincent, the Last Valkyrie. This is how my story begins. International bestselling author, Jeremy Robinson, is joined by his youngest co-author ever, Tori Paquette, as they delve into the dark and mysterious world of Antarktos, hailed as the “new continent of terror,” by New York Times bestselling author James Rollins. Praised by action-adventure and thriller greats such as Steve Berry, Jeff Long, Steve Alten, Stel Pavlou and Scott Sigler, the Antarktos Saga continues in The Last Valkyrie, uncovering dark secrets, sinister evils and the true strength of a young woman.

I liked this book as well as the Last Hunter. Thankfully it wasn't as long! I like stories where a main characters children are the stars of a book of their own. And again, another book with a co writer. The story was seamless and I couldn't tell the difference. Amazing to me.

Nothing like an Antarktos story

These stories by Jeremy Robinson, and now with Tori’s collaboration, have a unique taste of excitement, excellent narrative and pace, making reading books one of the best things life has to offer.

We finally get to return to Antarktos, and this is just as grand a tale as the first time we meet Solomon Ull Vincent, the boy who would become The Last Hunter and later King of Antarktos.

In this tale, we meet Sol's two daughters in the period where Sol is away (fighting in the events of another of Robinson's books called Project LEGION. though that detail is never mentioned in this particular tale). When the more adventurous daughter is kidnapped by the remnants of the Nephilim, the quieter daughter must track her down - and eventually discover her own mystic connection to Antarktos.

As with Robinson's other female-coauthored book (The Distance, with his wife Hillaree), the only real distinction you get that Robinson even has a coauthor here (for the first time in the Antarktos Saga) is that the female perspective is more fleshed out than you normally get from Robinson. Other than that particular distinction, this is a tale that will either serve as an introduction point to Antarktos for those who have yet to discover it, or as a welcome addition to the Saga for those who have loved it for years now.

Truly a wonderful adventure, and an amazing debut work for Paquette.

TERRIFIC !!!!

What a joy to return to Antarktos with Solomon's daughters. I must say that Tori is an a amazing writer for her age, heck for any age. If it hadn't been stated I would not have even been aware that this book wasn't wrien by Jeremy until quite a ways into it. The action was fantastic. Every time you thought she had backed herself into a corner voila she found an excellent and believable way to get out. The characters of the daughters was written so well written that you just knew they were his daughters even if they hadn't told you. The action never slowed down and there was nowhere that you thought to youself " that didn't happen ". I greatly admire Jeremy for having the guts to give Tori a chance. I know we will see much from her in the future, I just hope some of it will be set in Antarktos. I would luv to go there on vacation. Highly recommended.

What a delight to be back in the world of Antarktos. This is a fun novella that is full of adventure and emotion. A feel treat for fans of the Last Hunter series and a nice little introduction for readers just finding it. Jeremy Robinson and Tori Paquette's writing blends really well, it's hard to believe this is Tori's first book. I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

Excellent story!

This is a wonderful first outing for Tori! She did a masterful job spinning this tale, and Jeremy's influence can be seen throughout. I was already a big fan of Jeremy...now add Tori to the list!

I really hope we'll see more!

An interesting tale from a different point of view then we are used to from Jeremy Robinson. Two young girls trying to escape their greatest horrors, with a plot twist you would not expect. A great read and a great addition to the series.

A quick return to Anarktos

Aimed after you finish a book, or in this case a series, you might wonder what happens next. Here we get an idea as we meet Soloman's daughters Aquila and Norah. The latter is the star of this particular adventure. Actually it's more of a coming into you own strength type of story and it's fairly good.If you're looking for Sol you're going to be slighly disappointed. But there's a huge hint about what he's doing. In fact of you're a fan of Mr. Robertson's work chances are you already read it. As for this, if you were a fan of the Last Hunter series this is a good follow up, one I wouldn't mind revisiting of the inspiration bits the authors again

Amazing follow-up

I finished The Hunter series and was hoping for 1 more moment to be on the continent with Sol, Kaienda, Em, and Mira to see how they have grown since I left them and Ninnis. The story stayed with the original plots and gave us a look into ourselves to remember that, if we face our weaknesses, they can become our strengths. I truly enjoyed this side novel and am impressed with the fact that I could barely tell the difference on which author was writing. Great job!

A nice followup to the last hunter.

This was a good first book for Tori, she will do well especially with someone like Jeremy mentoring her. This was a great followup to The Last Hunter series. I hope there will be more. My only criticism is at one point I began to think there was just too much of Norah doubting herself. It gets repeated a little too often, but in the end I did enjoy the story.

the royal line lives true

The story was dream filled ride has brought me back to great time I had reading the main series. Read the novella is a must in my opinion for any fan to get a look at happened after the war and what kind badass warrior princess Solomon left in to watch the kingdom.

Great adventure!

Little Norah Vincent faces off with creatures being her imagination. At 13 years old, she is an artist at heart but must become a warrior to save her sister Aquilla. This isn't some children's story. Well written and a great story!

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I love this series, so when I heard that there would be another story from this universe, I was pretty excited! Despite my excitement, I was curious to see how adding a co-author to the mix, but The Last Valkyrie stayed true to series. After I had completed reading it, I was satisfied with another trip to Antarktos, yet wanting more. Overall, this was a great addition to the storyline.

Back to Antarktos!

It was great returning to one of my favorite settings for a series of novels! I realized right away how much I missed Jeremy Robinson's fictional take on Antarctica...a lot! Pick this up if you have read Antarktos Rising and the Last Hunter, especially the Last Hunter (although do yourself a favor and read both - Antarktos Rising in between books 2 and 3 of Last Hunter is strongly recommended). I hope Tori P and Mr. Robinson decide to continue with more tales after this one!

Excited to be going back to the world of Antarktos! Although this book can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading Antarktos Rising and, one of my all time favorites, The Last Hunter.
This is the story of Solomon's daughters, Aquila and Norah, as they learn to fight and survive the underground realm of Antarktos when Aquila is taken by the Nephilim, who want to turn her into a hunter. Norah must overcome her fear of inadequacy in order to save her sister and on the way, learn about her amazing power.

Highly recommend (the whole series)!

The Last Valkyrie is an off shoot of The Last Hunter universe (although can be read as a stand alone), and is the story of Solomon's daughters. If The Last Hunter was a "boy's own adventure" story, then Valkyrie is one for the girls. With strong young female characters, this is such an exciting adventure for all ages!

Quick read but action thru out

The book starts off pretty quick. We get to meet or main characters as usual but we also get to the action just as quickly as we meet them. Definitely fast paced with some folk legend thrown in .. For me it was a great read.

What a wonderful experience to return to the world of Antarktos. We were first introduced to this world in The Last Hunter series. Things have been progressing for Solomon and his family as they try to deal with all of the changes to the land. In his role as King, he must travel to stay on top of things. While he is gone, Zuh, a hunter from the old days, is tasked with training and teaching his daughters. While they are on a scheduled training experience in the woods, everything changes.
This was such a good story and it was very cool to return to the Antarktos a few years down the road. I can only hope that there will be more stories in the future.
