From #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Barbara Freethy comes a poignant, and charming romance about going home, falling in love and finding yourself.
Roman Prescott has always lived his life in the shadows. Being invisible meant staying alive—during his troubled childhood and his years as a soldier. But when an injury sends him back to the small town of Fairhope, he can't hide from his past or the light brought forth by a beautiful pastry chef.
Having lost her parents at a young age, Juliette Adams has had her share of tragedy, but now she fills her days making sweet desserts in her bakery and trying to recapture her happy childhood. Then she meets an attractive, brooding man, who is not only tearing down her old house but might just tear apart her fragile future. She's not interested in the tragic love story she was named after—she wants a love that will lift her up, that will last, and this sexy soldier has one foot out the door.
They both know they should ignore the sparks between them, but Valentine's Day fever has lit up the town and old love letters and long-buried secrets keep bringing them together. Can these two wary souls get past their fear of loving and losing to finally win the greatest love of all?
If so, what could be sweeter than that?
AUTHOR'S
SWEET SOMETHINGS is a full-length standalone novel. But to add a cool twist, it's set in the world of a romantic movie called COFFEE SHOP! Both stories (the book and the movie) take place in the same small coastal town, and some of the characters cross over. You can read/watch each separately without missing a beat, as they each have their own independent storylines, but if you'd love to check out both, you'll have even more fun!

Barbara's love of writing developed out of a love of reading. Growing up in an all-boy neighborhood, she spent quite a bit of time reading through her mother's large library, many of which were romantic novels. After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara, she went into Public Relations, but soon discovered that writing was her true passion.
Barbara was traditionally published for many years, then formed her own publishing company FOG CITY PUBLISHING in 2011 and has since sold over 10 million books! She has published 75 novels ranging from mystery thrillers to romantic suspense and contemporary romance.
Her book SUMMER SECRETS was a #1 New York Times bestseller! And twenty-five other novels have also appeared on the New York Times and USA Today Bestseller Lists. She is currently writing two ongoing series, a contemporary romance series set in Whisper Lake and a romantic suspense series: Off The Grid: FBI Series. She is also known for her bestselling Callaway Family Series, which offers up fourteen books and two novellas.
When Barbara isn't writing or publishing, which isn't very often these days, she is playing tennis, hanging out with friends and family in beautiful Lake Tahoe or reading books!

From the appealing cover to the movie tie-in, I was prepared to love this book...sadly, I didn't. It was just...ordinary, bland. I kept wanting "more", I don't know what "more" I wanted, but when I was done with the book I didn't feel I ever got "more". I found Juliette annoying - she was crazy as a loon over the house (If I had been Roman, I would have run fast and far from that). Then there's her "compassion" - I call it pushy and nosy, she was constantly butting in where she didn't belong - seriously, she had no personal boundaries! As for Roman, he was OK - he had walls no one could scale, but he was OK with that, not to mention that he's got one foot out the door anyway. I didn't see why he even returned to this town where he had such a bad childhood except for his grandfather, but he had no trouble leaving him for the Marine Corps for thirteen years. I guess what I'm saying is that the characters and storyline didn't work for me in this book. I'm sure I will be in the minority as far as my review because Barbara Freethy is a popular author...and I do like many of her other books and would recommend her as an author, just not this one.
3.5 stars. Interesting approach - having a book that is a crossover from a movie versus the other way around. Juliette comes home to start a bakery and rediscover her past she was forced to leave when her parents died unexpectedly. Roman returns to recover from injuries sustained as a Marine. The book is a feel good romance with very little steam so it will appeal to all romance lovers.
I enjoyed the secondary romance that was a mystery and would be intrigued to watch the movie to get Donovan's story. I'm also curious if the movie solves the mystery of the fire as that remains unsolved at the end of the book.
I always enjoy a Barbara Freethy book and recommend this one. Thanks to the author for an ARC of this book.
I enjoyed this story by Barbara Freethy, but then I always love her stories. This one ties in a little with the movie released at the same time Coffee Shop. Delightful characters and very sweet story.
Author: Barbara Freethy First published: 2017 Length: 3264 kindle locations Setting: Contemporary. Fair hope, Alabama. Sex: Clean. Hero: Marine on medical leave. Heroine: Baker. Includes: Excerpt from On a Night Like This, the first book in Freethy’s Callaway series.
Boring. The narrative was dull, the writing was ordinary, the tension was non-existent and the plot was predictable. It was not worth the trouble.
I understand it is linked to a movie set in the same universe, but I’m not in the least bit interested.
Sweet Somethings is the first book I have read from author, Barbara Freethy. It is a well written book in which Freethy writes captivating romance and fair share of tragedy built within the characters of Roman Prescott, and Juliet Adams.
Roman lived his life, quietly, preferring not to be noticed by people. He had a less than loving upbringing. Roman was a soldier and an injury finds him back in his hometown of Fairhope. Little did he know he would fall in love with a baker named Juliet Adams.
Juliet had a life full of happy memories and tragedy when she lost her parents when she was young. She found the baking therapeutic. She owns her own successful bakery in the town of Fairhope.
The romance portrayed in Sweet Somethings was caked on a bit too much. Yes, pun intended! It was very unrealistic. All other elements of the book were written with poise, and kept the reader wanting more!
Like all of Barbara Freethy’s books this one is another hit! ! ! Well done, Barbara.
Roman a handsome, sexy alpha, hurt in action, Marine has come back to Fairhope after 13 yrs away to recover from his injuries and to help his grandfather refurbish a home he purchased. He left at the age of 18 to join the military and get away from a town that thinks he is nothing but a troublemaker. Roman is just going to stay in town for as long as it takes him to recover on his medical leave so he can go back in the military, but along the way he meets Juliette……
Juliette grew up in Fairhope but at the age of 12 her parents died and she moved to live with her aunt in New York. Her father was a baker and so she took all her lessons from her father and went on to win a baking contest and decided that Fairhope was calling her back home to the only real home she knew. She wants to make the bakery a success and be able to live in Fairhope and hopefully purchased the home she lived in before her parents died. She knows someone has purchased the home but when she goes by she see that they are tearing the house apart and she is determined to talk with someone to make sure the house stays at it was years before except…………………..she meets Roman……….
Attractions run sizzling for both Roman and Juliette but Roman doesn’t want to fall for her because he will be leaving sooner rather than later and Juliette is afraid that if she lets herself fall for him he will only break her heart…
Then Roman discovers a hidden box in the house that he thinks belongs to Juliette’s family…only it doesn’t and now these two are working together to find the owner of the box and while doing this they are drawn deeper in to each other…..but……..
Magic cookies, a hidden box, past hurts and feelings of attraction…will these two find their HEA or will they go their separate ways??????
I am not normally a fan of romance books. I prefer a little suspense along with the romance, but when the author is Barbara Freethy I can make an exception. She has a way of creating characters that are so real and I want to know them. I start reading her books and can't put them down. Roman and Juliette's story was so entertaining to read. I would love to live in a small town like Fairhope and be around these people! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good love story and hope that some of the other characters get their own stories, too!!! I saw that Donovan's story is actually a movie =)
This was a sweet story between two very different personalities. Juliette sees the world a bit with rose colored glasses and has to question everything - with a smile on her face. Roman is in town temporarily with a chip on his shoulder. As Juliette works her way into Roman's world, he begins to see things maybe are a little brighter than he thinks. These two coming together is a sweet love story. Neither overreacted at each other (much), rather they worked through things together. They were drawn to each other and it felt like the ending we got was only their beginning. Great chemistry between them too.
free eb00k she opened a bakery. he was remodeling a old house for his grandpa. she used to live there before her parents were killed and her aunt moved her to ny. she yelled at him for destroying the house, but they became friends. he was the local badboy when growing up but became a marine till he got wounded. he needed to be tested before they would offer him his position in the marines again she helped his grandpa get back with his old girlfriend after his long time wife died. she baked wish cookies for valentines day. i just didnt like the ending, it didnt go far enough to say if the marines took him back or he stayed in the small town

This is another sweet and wonderful book by Barbara Freethy. I am not sure where she keeps coming up with her wonderful plots and ideas, but I am sure glad that she does, If you love Hallmark movies, you will adore this book. It is a story of second chances for Juliette and Roman (you have to love the names). It's small town romance at its best. It is sweet without being sugary. Every town should be so lucky to have a coffee shop where romance is only a cup of coffee away. I received an ARC of this delightful book. The choice to read and review it was mine.
The story is sweet; the bakery is sweet; and, his life is sweeter with her in it! That being said, this is a wonderful story with heartache, perseverance and romance. As a Marine on medical leave, Roman Prescott keeps himself busy helping his grandfather; as a work driven bakery owner, Juliette Adams spends long hours in her shop striving to make a success of her business. There are situations here and there that continue to bring the two together but their future is uncertain in so many ways. Thanks so much for a great book that kept me reading way past bedtime.
A family home brings a couple together to find love for each other and hidden memories help reunite two older people find romance again. Really enjoyed how this played out and it kept my interest. It was not complicated with different characters but showed how a small town knew each other and supported each other. People came to the bakery to buy wish cookies and the owner was a successful female who fell in love with the person remodeling her childhood home.
I really enjoyed reading this sweet story, It was the perfect book on a snowy day.Short enough to read in the afternoon and long enough not to feel like the story was rushed.I loved how Juliette looks out for everyone and Roman is there to help her.It was easy to fall in love with all the characters and the town. A little mystery, alot of love and laughter. Its a great book and I recommend it and any of Barbara's books. I was given a ARC in exchange for a honest review.
Sweetness plus!!! Wanting to fulfill her dream of owning a bakery in her hometown, Juliette goes home. Roman also doesn't want to go home but, winds up in his hometown after a military accident puts him on medical leave. The two worlds collide when Juliette wants to buy her old house back. Sparks fly and in true Barbara fashion suspense and mystery follow leaving a really sweet story that you will love.
If it's possible for a novel to be called "CUTE" then this is it...
I felt like I wanted to be a part of this book...to know the characters and be a part of the activities...this was a fun read...it has it all to keep a reader turning the pages to see what happens next...read and enjoy....
She’s come back to the town she lived as a young girl, she’s opened her bakery. As she walks she sees her childhood home being renovated but she doesn’t want that. Confronting the contractor starts a journey to love for her and the contractor. He’s a marine on medical leave with his own issues about the town.
I liked it -- nice sweet romance about a man who left town at 18 somewhat under a cloud and joined the marines. He's back in town while recuperating from an injury and meets a woman who left town years ago as well. Liked the characters, liked the town, the house being rehabbed, the growth almost everyone goes through in town and the old romance they find information about.
This weekend I found this on my bookshelf. Apparently it’d been sitting there for sometime and I seem to have forgotten about it. Now I know why. It was not good. It wasn’t the worst, but definitely not the best or even as good as Barbara Freethy’s other books. Slightly dull and boring. I had to force myself to finish it to just be done with it and delete it once and for all.
A sweet loving book to read. Juliette and Roman both come back to Fairhope, a town they grew up in. She a baker and he is on medical leave from the Marines, working on a house his grandfather bought. Romance and fixing some friendships that went wrong in Roman life.
OMG!! I really loved this story. Page turner for sure. Lives changing Friends and lovers reconnecting. The town is one I would love to live in. A small town with closeness Great read.
This is a delightful romantic story that makes you feel better at the end. There are lots of sweet moments with local baker Juliette Adam and chances for Roman Prescott to rekindle with old friends who had become enemies when he was a teenager. This is a great quick read.
