Before it is all over, these two men will play out the consequences not just of the crime spree that first brought them into each other's orbits, but of their earliest childhoods, when their destinies were being written by violence and abuse.

Each will have to look into the abyss and answer a terrible question: is he prepared to sacrifice everything, even family, to succeed?

Anders Roslund is a Swedish author and journalist. He is the founder and former head of Kulturnyheterna (Culture News) on SVT, Sweden's national television broadcaster. For many years he worked as a news reporter – specializing in criminal and social issues – and as an Editor-in-chief at Rapport and Aktuellt, the two major News programmes on SVT.

Roslund regularly collaborates with Börge Hellström, and together they make up the writing duo of Roslund & Hellström.

The story is one of a family torn apart. The concept behind it is the effect of nature versus nurture on children, and begins with a very graphic scene of appalling domestic violence. This leads us into the immediate aftermath of the attack, and explains how the brothers decide to look after themselves.

Their father has been taken to prison, their mother is in hospital, and although there are concerns for the trio, a neighbour agrees to help, and it’s felt that the boys are safe enough in their own home.
What the social workers don’t realise is that the older boy, Leo Duvnjac, has realised that the three need money. And he has already thought through a means of making money. It involves a robbery. With Leo’s planning, the brothers are launched on a career as bank robbers, and as they grow to manhood, the three become Sweden’s most wanted men.

Eventually they are caught, and jailed, with Leo being imprisoned for six years. While inside, he met Sam Larsen, and this was the beginning of the book’s story. Because Sam had murdered his father; his brother had reported his crime to the police, and later it was his brother who arrested Leo.

Now both are out of prison, and both want revenge.
This is a powerful story, with a strong cast of characters, and a rather grim and bleak storyline.

That said, it was a very good read, with a compelling story and some believable characters. Recommended to those who enjoy psychological thrillers and those who like Scandi Noir.

''The Sons'' is the sequel to the excellent ''Father'', written by the Swedish duo of Anders Roslund and Stefan Thunberg (Anton Svensson is their nom de plume). Roslund along with Börge Hellström wrote seven novels in the acclaimed Grens&Sundkvist series, while Thunberg is widely known for his screenplays for television series such as ''Wallander'', ''Farang'', and ''Jägarna''.

It was the bonds - the same bonds she herself had broken loose from. Vincent didn't show up at the prison yesterday either.
And somehow she was glad that her youngest son seemed aware that bonds can ensnare - because only then is it possible to face them.

The ties that bind… the bonds that ensnare… call it what you will but The Sons is an epic and taut tale of familial entrapment and particularly the relationship and influence of fathers on their sons. The sequel to the ‘based in truth’ The Father, The Sons is a far more fictitious narrative of the next chapter of the Duvnjak family, notoriously and infamously responsible for Sweden’s biggest bank robberies.

The Sons provides further insight into the childhood experiences of Leo, Felix and Vincent Duvnjak (the author notes that the events in the story occurring in the past are based in truth) and the abuses they witnessed at the hands of their father, Ivan. Explanations for later behaviours, not excuses. It’s quite a sobering read and one that the pseudo psychologist in me ‘goes to town’ over.

The Sons adds the dimension of the sonship of police officer John Broncks, responsible for capturing the brothers and the father back in book one. However, in this book we become privy to Broncks’ own past, experiences with his own father and brother and these come to bear in a parallel story that entwines, much like the threads that Leo and Ivan discuss in terms of what is woven together from individual threads into a whole.

This is an excellent sequel to what was also an outstanding read for me. Authenticity added as one of the authors is the fourth and unnamed brother unconnected to the crimes. His voice is real. 5 stars.

Den här boken, En bror att dö för, är en fristående fortsättning på boken Björndansen, som utkom för knappt tre år sedan.

Björndansen tyckte jag var en helt fantastiskt bra bok, som helt klart fick högsta betyget från mig. Här är en länk till min recension av den.

En bror att dö för, är också en mycket bra bok. Den växlar mellan dom tre brödernas barndom och uppväxt, och tiden när dom är vuxna och har kommit ut från deras respektive fängelsestraff.

Kan absolut rekommendera boken, men läs helt klart boken Björndansen först.

Odličan nastavak odličnog Medvjeđeg plesa, drugi dio ostavlja još dublji trag. Upoznavši braću Duvnjak, sada već poznajemo i većinu događaja u njihovom djetinjstvu, sve što ih je oblikovalo u ljude kakvi su postali. Svakako se nadam i trećem dijelu, i preporučam svima koji se možda dvoume, čitati ili ne. Knjiga vrijedna svakog neprospavanog sata 😊
Ne znam jesam li se prevarila, čini mi se da sam vidjela da ima i treći dio? A sad ga ne mogu naći... Ako netko zna, nek me prosvijetli :) Drugi dio radnjom sugerira mogući nastavak, pa ako netko zna nešto o tome, molim javite ;)

In feite 3,5*. Niet zo sterk als 'Made In Sweden' maar wel terug een boek met vaart. Centrale vraag : hoe ver wil je gaan voor een broer ? Het einde heeft mij wel een beetje teleur gesteld, vandaar geen 4*.

I started this one right after finishing Part One (THE FATHER) in the Made in Sweden series. I absolutely loved THE FATHER and was immediately sucked into the story about the infamous Military League that terrorized Sweden. Ten bank robberies, a bomb, a security car robbery, and one of the largest arms thefts in European history - these brothers and their father seemed unstoppable.

Their last job proved to be their downfall. After mistakes were made they were arrested for their crimes. The oldest brother, Leo, is released from prison and is unreformed. He has his sights set on the biggest heist yet - 100 million in Swedish crowns in the police headquarters. Are his goals too high this time? Will he have to go in this alone? When leaving prison his relationships are incredibly strained with his brothers, Felix and Vincent, as well as with his father, Ivan.

While the past events are based on their true story, the present events are a work of fiction. This series amazes me because we get to see how these young men were raised and how that turned them into the violent criminals they became. With family being the most important over all else, is Leo willing to lose them to pull off one last heist, or will he alienate them for good?

I would highly recommend reading THE FATHER first. Otherwise you will be missing out on a lot of backstory, and it's just a well-written novel. If you like a good crime thriller/suspense that is equal parts action and character study, then this needs to be on your TBR list!

I give this one 5/5 stars - as well as the series!

MESSCHERP TÓT DE CLIMAX

In navolging van voorganger Made in Sweden hebben Anders Roslund & Stefan Thunberg wederom een meesterwerk geschreven. "Oog om oog, tand om tand, broer om broer" staat op de cover en dat is exact de essentie van het verhaal.
Het is aan te raden, zij het niet beslist noodzakelijk, eerst Made in Sweden te lezen alvorens Bloedbroers ter hand te nemen. Het totaalplaatje doet het hem.

Hoogtepunten in Bloedbroers zijn de ontmoetingen van Leo Dûvnjac met diens vader Ivan en de hersenspinsels van Leo, die gevoel en zakelijkheid als geen ander kan scheiden. Of toch niet? Inspecteur John Broncks komt veel beter tot zijn recht als in het eerste deel. Kan hij werk en privé (blijven) scheiden, of niet? Hoe verhouden beide mannen zich tot elkaar en hoe zal het eindigen? Voor wat hoort wat, maar hoe ver gaat dat?
De auteurs zetten de personages perfect neer. De inkijk in de jonge jaren van Leo, Felix en Vincent Dûvnjac is mooi verwerkt in het geheel, evenals de voorgeschiedenis van John en Sam Broncks. Alles klopt, de interactie, en soms juist het ontbreken daarvan, creëert spanningsvelden.

Een en al lof dus? Nee, net niet helemaal. Felix Dûvnjac raakt op de achtergrond. Vincent Dûvnjec, tja. Dat wat de climax zou moeten zijn stelt licht teleur. Tenzij er een vervolg komt, waartoe de in dit boek opgevoerde politievrouw Elisa best wel eens de opening zou kunnen vormen. Zij is nog niet klaar met Broncks ... (hoop ik).

Vijf sterren kreeg Bloedbroers van de VN Thrillergids in 2017, dit maakte nieuwsgierig en ik ben gelukkig niet teleurgesteld. Een absolute aanrader is wel dat je eerst deel een, Made in Sweden, leest. Bloedbroers speelt zes jaar later, maar gaat naadloos verder. Er wordt weinig teruggeblikt.

Bloedbroers is een indrukwekkend en spannend boek vol vaart. In vergelijking tot deel een, Made in Sweden, is dit boek nog completer en beter. Het verdient de vijf sterren dubbel en dwars. Het is zo boeiend en realistisch dat je vergeet dat het fictie is, weliswaar geïnspireerd op de broers van auteur Thunberg.

De combinatie van het oogpunt van rechercheur John Broncks en broer/overvaller Leo versterken elkaar alleen maar. Vijanden van elkaar en ze haten elkaar intens. Hun obsessie en wraak worden zo sterk verwoord door Roslund en Thunberg. Ik kijk nu al uit naar een eventueel volgende deel.

Bloedbroers is een boek vol spanning, maar niet direct door alle plannen van Leo, zoals in Made in Sweden. De spanning zit meer in de emotionele aspecten in het verhaal.

This was an interesting story and it coud be an unputdownable book, but the authors felt they had to tell again and again in a poignant way the same all same all about the complicated relationships of the brothers.

The boring themes about what it means to be a policeman, trying to follow a moral code and always feature a flawless conduct and then facing delimas etc etc didn't lack from this novel either. There is a subplot about some arguments and antagonism between the main policeman character and his woman colleague which I found boring and forced and completely irrelevant and out of the blue. I don't know if there is some history there from the previous book, but this is supposed to be a stand alone and I found this thread unnecessary. I din;t much get the character of Sam and his hate for the cops in general and for his brother in particular. I didn't get the way John acted either, especially towards the end of the book, I felt the story fizzled out somehow.

I felt that most characters never fleshed out in this novel and that many parts of the plot felt repetitive or forced or too poignant. This is the fictional sequel of another book and this first book is based on true facts, one of the authors been the son/brother of the crime organisation starring there and having commited many robberies in real life. Maybe I have to read this first book to get this one better...

All in all, this book features all the hyperbole and cliche of the genre, but parts of it are more well-written than others. The description of the planning and execution of the robbery was captivating most of the time and some backstory of the characters makes it more compelling. The pace was uneven and it has its flaws, I think it had potential to be a much better book, but it was decent enough to pass the time.

Ενδιαφέρουσα ιστορία που θα μπορούσε να έχει πολύ πιο γρήγορο ρυθμό, αλλά κάποιες φορές οι συγγραφείς αισθάνονταν την ανάγκη να επαναλαμβάνουν με δεικτικό τρόπο τα ίδια και τα ίδια σχετικά με τις πολύπλοκες σχέσεις των αδερφών.

Επίσης λίγο βαρετά σε όλα τα μυθιστορήματα του είδους τα λογύδρια και τα ηθικά διλλήματα πέρι του τι σημαίνει να είσαι μέλος του εκλεκτού αστυνομικού σώματος, να έχεις κώδικα τιμής, να είσαι πάντα ακέραιος και ουσιαστικά αλλά και τύποις και όλα τα σχετικά. Υπήρχε μία υπο-πλοκή στο βιβλίο περί μίας κόντρας του κεντρικού χαρακτήρα-αστυνομικού με μία συνάδελφό του που μου φάνηκε εντελώς περιττή και "φιαχτή" , δεν ξέρω αν προηγήθηκε στο προηγούμενο βιβλίο κάποιο ιστορικό που να δικαιολογεί αυτή τη γραμμή της ιστορίας, αλλά υποτίθεται ότι είναι αυτοτελές μυθιστόρημα και εδώ η ιστορία αυτή δεν κολλάει. Επίσης ποτέ δεν κατάλαβα τον χαρακτήρα του Σαμ και την έχθρα του για τους αστυνόμους και τον αδερφό του, ούτε τις αποφάσεις που πήρε ο Τζον και το τέλος του βιβλίου. Μου φάνηκε σαν να ξεθύμανε η ιστορία και να μην έχει την ένταση που περίμενα.

Οι περισσότεροι χαρακτήρες δεν απέκτησαν υπόσταση στο βιβλίο, το οποίο είναι η εντελώς φανταστική συνέχεια ενός άλλου. Το οποίο άλλο αν έχω καταλάβει καλά, βασίζεται σε πραγματικά γεγονότα και μάλιστα ένας από τους συγγραφείς είναι γιός-αδερφός της εγκληματικής συμμορίας που πρωταγωνίστησε σε εκείνο το βιβλίο. Ίσως πρέπει να διαβάσω κι εκείνο το βιβλίο για να κατανοήσω καλύτερα αυτό εδώ.

Το Αδελφός αντί Αδελφού δεν ξεφεύγει από στερεότυπα του είδους με ένα σωρό κλισέ και υπερβολές, ωστόσο το κομμάτι του σχεδιασμού και της εκτέλεσης της ληστείας κτλ σου κρατούσε την προσοχή και είχε προϋποθέσεις για κάτι πολύ καλύτερο. Ο ρυθμός είναι άνισος και κάποια πράγματα επαναλαμβανόμενα, αλλά σε γενικές γραμμές διαβάζεται γρήγορα, χωρίς να ξετρελαθεί κανείς κιόλας...

THE SONS: Made in Sweden, Part II is not so much a sequel to 2016’s THE FATHER as it is an extension. The first book concerned three brothers --- all under the age of 24 --- who became Sweden’s most notorious criminals, in part because of the actions of their father. As much a fascinating sociological study as a riveting crime novel, it was a lights-on-all-night read and a cautionary tale. This follow-up extends the story, holding out a promise of redemption that, from its beginning, is as substantive as the unwritten promise of a dead man. It is terrible to behold, yet one is compelled to keep looking and reading.

It is noted at the commencement of THE SONS, possibly with tongue in cheek, that the book’s past was inspired by real events while the present is pure fiction. Author Anton Svensson --- the pseudonym for Stefan Thunberg and Anders Roslund --- begins with a recap of the opening events of THE FATHER, this time from the viewpoints of brothers Leo, Vincent and Felix Duvnjac. They have just witnessed their father, Ivan, a convicted criminal, break into their home and severely beat their mother. The reminder of the act, which served as the catalyst for the brothers’ eventual criminal careers, stands in stark contrast to the enigmatic familial tableau that greets Leo as he is released from prison as THE SONS gets rolling.

Leo’s six-year incarceration did anything but rehabilitate him. In fact, he spent a good deal of his time plotting a final and major heist that is to be executed in four stages. His plan has two aims: to facilitate his retirement, if you will --- which, in part, involves disappearing from Sweden forever --- and gaining some measure of revenge against John Broncks, the intense and driven detective superintendent whose unrelenting and obsessive investigation into the activities of the Duvnjacs, father and sons, resulted in their respective incarcerations. One element of Leo’s planning strikes particularly close to home with Broncks, who is all but certain --- and correctly so --- that Leo has used his prison sentence to pick up precisely where he left off at the time of his arrest and conviction and escalate his criminal activity to even greater heights.

Broncks is determined to stop Leo, using whatever means necessary and regardless of whether the innocent or guilty become collateral damage. Leo is even colder in the pursuit of his goal, as he is willing to use his father and brothers --- all of whom are trying to avoid recidivism --- in whatever way he can to succeed in his goal and avoid capture. While the story of Leo’s planning and execution of the four-part heist and Broncks’ pursuit of him is certainly interesting enough on its own, Svensson’s subtle comparison between the two adversaries with regard to their lives and personalities is equally as riveting. The line between cop and criminal here is a thin one indeed.

THE SONS does not include any numbered chapters. There are large named sections that are then subdivided by paragraph breaks to facilitate changes in time, place and points of view. The results make for a quick, suspenseful and propelling read that, like THE FATHER, will appeal to fans of true crime and police procedurals.

Anders Roslund en Stefan Thunberg schreven in Made in Sweden, dat in 2014 verscheen over drie broers . Leo, Felix en Vincent, die meerdere banken beroven maar uiteindelijk achter slot en grendel belanden. In Bloedbroers, ook wel Made in Sweden 2 genoemd, gaat het verhaal verder. Even een bizar weetje . het is bijna een autobiografisch verhaal voor Stefan Thunberg. Zijn drie broers waren lid van een bende overvallers. Hij was de enige die een andere richting koos. Na jaren kon hij het verhaal neerschrijven in een thriller.

Leo komt na zes jaar gevangenisstraf vrij. Zijn broers zijn al eerder vrijgelaten. Zij hebben besloten nooit meer het criminele pad te bewandelen. Leo had echter een andere mening. In de gevangenis heeft hij kennisgemaakt met Sam, die wil meedoen met een 'laatste grote slag'. Maar al vanaf het moment dat hij vrij komt, zijn er mensen die hem niet vertrouwen. Zijn broers voelen dat hij niet op het rechte pad wil blijven. En politie-inspecteur Broncks die hem in Made in Sweden achter de tralies heeft gekregen voelde dit ook. De roof van de eeuw voorbereiden is lastiger dan voorzien, zeker als zijn vader ook weer contact met hem wil.

Bloedbroers gaat dus verder op Made in Sweden. Voorkennis is echter niet nodig. De schrijvers zorgen er subtiel voor dat de lezer snel op de hoogte wordt gebracht van wat er gebeurd is in Made in Sweden.

Bloedbroers is een bijzondere thriller, met een spanning die constant aanwezig is Deze spanning komt echter niet zozeer voort uit de geplande overval maar uit de familieband die door Leo onder druk wordt gezet. Zijn vader, ook geen lieverdje, wil de banden weer aanhalen met hem. Dit geldt minder voor de broers, die voelen dat Leo hen de afgrond mee zal in trekken wanneer ze weer contact krijgen. De vraag die de schrijvers zich stellen is, "hoever zou Leo gaan om zijn doel te bereiken?". Je merkt vanaf de eerste pagina dat het pad dat Leo bewandelt, voor iedereen in zijn omgeving slecht kan uitpakken. Hierdoor krijg je een onaangenaam gevoel, dat nog erger wordt door de beschrijvingen van de geschiedenis van de drie broers. Hun bloedband is al jaren geleden door een zeer heftige gebeurtenis gesmeed en is daarna alleen maar hechter geworden. We zien ook dat Leo al vanaf 14-jarige leeftijd misbruik van deze band maakte. Het zorgt voor een bijzondere leeservaring over een familie die zwaar onder druk wordt gezet.

Niet alleen de broertjes Duvnjac zijn hoofdpersoon in Bloedbroers. Ook politieman Broncks heeft een broer waarmee hij een bijzonder heftige band heeft. Hun geschiedenis wordt weer bovengehaald door de gebeurtenissen. Bronck moet kiezen. Trouw zijn aan de politie, of aan zijn familie?

Deze speciale soort spanning zorgt ervoor dat Bloedbroers anders is dan het werk van andere auteurs. Roslund en Thunberg schrijven daarbij ook nog eens zeer goed en gedetailleerd. Richting het eind wordt de snelheid alleen maar hoger, waardoor stoppen met lezen geen optie meer lijkt. De climax doet hier nog een schepje bovenop.

Een zeer goed geschreven, spannend en bijzonder boek.

Laten we beginnen met de cover, een paar kogelgaten en een man met een automatisch geweer in de aanslag. Dat ziet er dan voor mij uit als een zogenaamd ‘mannenboek’. Ja, ik weet het, dat mag je niet zeggen, toch zou ik dit boek niet zomaar oppakken. Het spreekt niet aan. Ik mocht dit boek lezen voor een recensie, en dan ga je dat gewoon maar doen. En wat kom je dan bedrogen uit. Het verhaal ‘Bloedbroers’ is het tweede deel van ‘Made in Sweden’. Maar heel goed als stand-alone te lezen. Je krijgt een heel goed beeld van wat zich heeft afgespeeld in deel 1. Het verhaal begint als Leo weer uit de gevangenis komt en gelijk vertrekt voor de uitvoering van een laatste overval maar ook zint op wraak. De band tussen zijn broers is voor gebroken, door wat er in deel is gebeurd, maar zou het nog te helen zijn. Op zich is het verhaal niet heel spannend, maar op de een of andere manier kruipt het onder je huid. Wil je echt weten hoe dit gaat aflopen. Of die band tussen de familie nog hersteld kan worden, of de overval lukt en de wraak op Brocks nog wordt uitgevoerd. Allemaal vragen die aan het einde van het verhaal allemaal zijn beantwoord.
De schrijfstijl is heel fijn, geen moeilijke zinsopbouw, gewoon prettig, waardoor het makkelijk is om te lezen. De hoofdstukken soms wat lang, maar met genoeg alinea’s is het boek makkelijk weg te leggen en weer op te pakken. Alles bij elkaar heb ik een verrassend leuk boek gelezen, en deze schrijver gaat zeker in de herhaling.

De broers Felix, Vincent en Leo hebben allemaal de gevangenis verlaten nadat ze meerdere jaren vastzaten voor de roof van de eeuw in Zweden. Leo was de laatste die eruit kwam, hij was ook het brein achter de roof. Zijn moeder vraagt maar een ding, dat hij zijn twee andere broers niet mee in zijn plannen betrekt.
Maar Leo heeft weer een plan dat niet kan mislukken en heeft een extra mannetje nodig.
In de cel heeft Leo Sam leren kennen, iemand die zijn vader vermoord heeft om zijn broer te beschermen. Sam en Leo gaan samen iets doen. Want beide hebben een eitje te pellen met hoofdinspecteur Broncks.

Tot in het kleinste detail worden alle voorbereidingen uitgelegd. Ik ben niet zo voor film maken van boeken, maar in dit geval lijkt het me voer voor een spannende actiefilm.
Leo heeft ook de gave om iemand duwtje per duwtje in de richting te duwen die hij wil. Ook al zegt iemand nee, dan blijft hij bezig tot die ja zegt. Manipulatief, dat is hij, maar toch kan ik niet tegen hem zijn. In de grond is hij niet slecht, zoals hij toch ook voor zijn broers zorgt. Het is een hoofdpersonage dat de slechterik is, maar het voelt zo niet. Je zou er bijna sympathie voor krijgen.

Սա իհակե շարունակությունն է առաջին գրքի՝ Made in Sweden-ի, բայց որպես առանձին վեպ էլ կարող եք կարդալ։ Հիշեցնեմ, որ առաջին գիրքը թեև դետեկտիվ էր, բայց հիմնված էր իրական փաստերի վրա և պատմում էր 3 գող եղբայրների ու նրանց հոր մասին, որոնք ի վերջո , չորսն էլ հայտնվում են բանտում։ Երկրորդ գիրքը սկսվում է, երբ նրանցից վերջինը՝ ավագ եղբայրը դուրս է գալիս։

Մնացած երկու եղբայրն ու նույնիսկ հայրը սկսել են նոր, օրինապահ ու օրինապաշտ կյանք, ի տարբերություն ավագ եղբոր՝ Լեոյի, որը դուրս գալուն պես սկսում է կյանքի կոչել այն, ինչ պլանավորել էր բանտում մի քանի տարի շարունակ։

Վեպը նկարագրում է Լեոյի՝ գլխավոր հերոսի ազատության մեջ գտնվելու 4 օրերը։ Չորս, խտացած օրերը, այն մեծ ծրագիրը, որն անվանում է Շվեդիայի պատմության ամենամեծ գողոն։ Թե ինչ է լինում, չեմ ուզում սփոյլ անեմ։ Բայց անկեղծ ասած, շվեդական դետեկտիվից մի քիչ ավելին էի սպասում, առավել ևս, որ այս վեպը բավականին գովազդված էր։ Այնպես չէ, որ վատն էր, բայց սկանդինավացիներից մի տեսակ շնչակտուր սյուժե ես սպասում, ինչպես օրինակ Լարս Կեպլերի դեպքում։

On its initial appearance it seems like another addition to the massive genre of Scandinavian crime novels, but it's much more and can stand alone as a piece of literary fiction deserving of high praise. Three young men have just served sentences for aggravated armed robbery. They are brothers, raised by the petty criminal and domestic abuser father that they committed their last crime with. On the final sons release we follow what happens next as they try to recreate some kind of normality - whatever "normality" means for each of them though is very different. Starting out I was worried that because I didn't really like any the characters my attention may sway, but that fear allayed pretty early on by the authors great descriptive writing which bares all to scene of a family torn apart by the criminal inclinations of a small representation of their larger sum. This is part 2 in the 'Made in Sweden' series, the first book being 'The Father'. Can't wait for the next one!

An extension (more than a sequel) of The Father (which I gave four stars as well). Preferable to read these books in order - I understand the first was based on a true story whereas the second was more a work of fiction. An engrossing, gripping read, this crime story is well-written (the translation is a bit clunky at times) and an interesting character study of the lengths someone will go to defend their loved ones. The two main characters and their actions reveal that the line between cop and criminal can be very thin indeed. I enjoy Scandinavian crime fiction but these two books really stand out for me with their compelling story.

Krvni bratje, nadaljevanje Medvedjega plesa, pripoved o najdrznejših in najnasilnejših švedskih ropih, napisana na podlagi resničnih dogodkov.

Opisuje čas, ko so trije bratje ostali sami, ker je mama v bolnišnici in oče v priporu.

Prav tako pa tudi čas po tem, ko so se odprla vrata zapora in Leo pride na prostost. V glavi pa je le en cilj, izpeljati popoln zločin in si vzeti, kar ne obstaja. Tokrat brez bratov in brez sledi. Toda napaka pritegne kriminalista in pravila se spremenijo. Če boš v to zvlekel mojega brata, bom jaz povlekel tvojega.

Brezhiben rop, ljubezen, sovraštvo in vezi, ki so včasih močnejše od krvnih.

This second part of the three brothers & two brothers was again a good read. A bit less violent (more memory wise than direct descriptions of what happened), but certainly as interesting. What do you do when your brothers won't join you in your plans? What do you do when your oldest brother has criminal plans again?
And when you're the chasing police man, what do you do when the criminal acts come very close to home?
All questions that the characters in this book need to deal with. And after making a choice: have to live with the consequences of their respective choices.

I really hope there'll be a part 3. Curious to find out what the end will look like!

I wanted to love The Sons as much as I did The Father (the books, definitely not the characters). But I just couldn't get there. I wonder how much this was related to the translation, which felt quite clumsy.
It's the parts based on fact which gain this book the third star: they stand head and shoulders above the fictional elements of The Sons. Felix and Vincent's struggles to carve out a post-prison life are particularly compelling, and I'd have liked to learn more about it. I just wasn't interested in Leo and Broncks' ongoing feud and this far-fetched robbery.

This is a great book and a worthy follow-on from the first book, 'The Father' There is enough backstory to keep the reader up with the play if one hasn't read the first book, or like me there has been a long interval between reading them. It shows that things learned when young are not easy to unlearn, how the desire to obtain things easily can be overpowering, and just how far the human psyche will go to to protect. Good plot, well written, one to be recommended. It helps that the author has had first hand experience.

One hundred pages from completing this book, I abandoned it. It was depressing, with not one likeable character. It was a story of hate and vengeance. This a work of fiction and with the exception of the key characters bears little resemblance to the preceding work...The Father which has a base in true crime. The characters in The Sons were not well drawn and inconsistent in their actions. I just could not persevere to the end of this one. Not recommended.

Schitterend vervolg op 'Made in Sweden', waarin alles draait rond het thema "als jij mijn broer erbij betrekt, betrek ik jouw broer erbij". Geweldige verhaallijn. Bovendien zalig taalgebruik, met een beklijvende afwisseling en verwevenheid tussen beschrijvingen, dialogen en gedachtegangen. Dit tweeluik komt bij mij op dezelfde hoogte als de Millennium-trilogie van Stieg Larsson.

An engrossing tale of blood loyalty, familial bonds, and the impact of childhoods reared in the traumatic experience of violent fathers and controlling sons. The novel is also a tight cat-and-mouse story of crime, of brilliant strategy and counter-strategy, and the lengths that individuals will go to defend their loved ones and do the right thing ... or not. Riveting and heart-breaking.

Am empatizat mult cu "fiii", in special cu LEO, mai putin cu Ivan cel groaznic, tatal, si absolut deloc cu politistul care-i ancheta. Nu va zic finalul, insa va dezvalui ca daca personajele ar trai, as dori tot raul din lume acelui politist. Punct.

Cartea este excelenta, pacat ca finalul este cu adevarat ... final. Ca nu va mai urma nimic. M-am atasat mult de personaje.
