Some princes are charming. Others are assholes.

I've spent most of my career writing tabloid articles about the royals of Montovia, and Prince Andrew, the heir to the throne, was always the one that intrigued me most. He's so guarded, so mysterious…so ridiculously attractive.

And then I met him. And I found out he's the most arrogant, smug, infuriating man to ever live.

He also desperately needs my help.

There are three things I know for sure. First, Prince Andrew has a secret. Second, he'll do anything to keep it a secret. And third, in spite of how infuriating I find him, I can’t help being incredibly attracted to him.

This is Part One of a six-part contemporary romance serial by bestselling authors Renna Peak and Ember Casey. This episode ends with a cliffhanger.

This story was all tell and such complete and utter crap. Of course I am influenced by the fact that the story ends halfway through itself. What is it with authors who employ this partial approach? I hate it, and it only gives me a bad taste.

He's annoyed that she would want to stop at her place and pack a few things for a trip out of the country? Maybe pick up her passport?

What crown prince would be allowed to fly his own plane? Alone. He doesn't get off a mayday? From the announcement at the end, you'd think there'd been some huge search party, and considering the paltry distance the two of them could have traveled, I should think they'd have heard some sort of fuss.

Then there's her injury and stupid actions. Supposedly she's an intelligent woman. So she doesn't consider the loss of her foot or being crippled to be a bar? It's so much more important that she get a hot bath? WTF?

As for the romance aspect. LOLOLOLOL. There's no lead-up. No way that any reader could possibly believe in the prince's sudden fascination with her. Sure the respect angle makes sense, but the start of his attraction? My eyes are rolling so fast that I'm getting friction burns.

I did appreciate the distinct voice the authors gave the prince.

As for the cover...what a joke. The closest these two come to nudity is when she takes her jacket off.

I was so looking forward to read Prince Andrew's story and I loved this first book.
Never would have guessed he and Victoria would have to experience such an adventure together in book 1, but I enjoyed it, it made everything more interesting and of course gave them chance to lean on each other in order to survive and know each other better.
Jumping to book 2.

Title: Royal Mistake
Author: Renna Peak / Ember Casey
Publisher/Year: Casey Peak Publishing 1/19/17
Length: 100 Pages
Series: Royal Mistake #1

Overview

My Thoughts

I desperately needed something light to read for a minute while i was both traveling and getting through Throne of Glass since that's a really 'deep' series. So...i stumbled across this series - the first novella in the Royal Mistake Series. To be honest, it was exactly what i needed in the sense of being light and airy - but ....it's a story that likely needs to be developed more as it probable will be in the coming installments.

So in this first book, as the summary tells you, we come across our leading lady who is a tabloid reporter who's assigned to the royal family of Montrovia - a country that i'm guessing us supposed to be a version of Great Britain. Anyhow...we start the story where she is the guest of one of her close friends Elle who is engaged to a Royal, however since Prince Andrew, the heir knows that she's a reporter and doesn't allow them at state dinners, he has her deported. That's where things turn for her i suppose.

So she finds herself back in the US at work, hoping to pitch another type of story where she doesn't have to follow the royals around (a task she's found herself in given that the Queen trusts her because of a story she helped spin a while back), and her boss isn't having it. She tries to resign, only to find the Prince in his office, looking for her help.

Then there's Prince Andrew, the heir to the throne and the one that's got a huge reputation to live up to. Apparently there was a night in Prague a while back that he did something that he isn't proud of and that can ruin his reputation along with that of his country - so he's in a bind to try to spin the story before it comes out.

That's where our character's paths cross once again. He needs her, she wants nothing to do with him. Add in a plane crash and a quest for survival, along with an attraction that they don't want to act on and we have the beginnings of a story.

The challenge that i have here, which i should get over since it's a novella is that it's light. There's not a ton of depth to it, but again, that's kind of what i wanted to i don't think that it makes ALL that much of a difference. Then there's the little twist of what they find out as news coming out of Montrovia of the plane crash - and that's where our first installment ends.

So, all in all, exactly what i needed and while it was light, i'll give the rest of the series a try since i think that i need something that doesn't require a lot of my brain power to process.

SPOILER ALERT

This is the story of Prince Andrew, Heir to the Throne of Montovia, & reporter Victoria Simpson. They met briefly at the annual state dinner & it didn’t go well.
Andrew’s secret of what happened in Prague is about to be exposed. At the encouragement of his mother, Queen Penelope, he arrives at Victoria’s work to hire her to tell his side of the story. Victoria refuses. She doesn’t want to report on the Royal family anymore, especially after the way Andrew treated her. She wants to write real stories, not celebrity gossip.
Andrew won’t take no for an answer & follows her until she agrees. They leave for Montovia in Andrew’s private jet, with Andrew as pilot.
While still over America, something happens to the wing & they crash land into a lake. Andrew pulls Victoria to safety. She’s hit her head hard & is confused.
A thunderstorm hits & they hide under big boulders for shelter, huddling for warmth. The next day, they hike toward a cabin Andrew saw as they were going down in the plane. Victoria lost a shoe & has a big, deep cut in her foot. They finally find the cabin & break in. Andrew is severely dehydrated & begins to hallucinate a man with a gun. Victoria saves his life by making him drink tons of water. They find cans of food & Andrew uses first aid kit to clean her foot.
Andrew admits that she has surprised him. He thinks her job is disgusting but he finds her intelligent, stubborn, determined & beautiful. They kiss. She pulls away first, saying they have a business arrangement & it should stay at that.
The next day they set off down the road for help. A car finally stops & the driver recognizes Andrew as the Prince. Victoria’s foot is infected, she’s burning up, pale & out of it. They drive them to an emergency clinic. They take Victoria as Andrew sees the news on tv. It says they found the plane & Andrew is presumed dead from suicide.

OMG...I was waiting for Andrew to get his story and it was worth the wait.
Andrew is a cocky, strong leader who thinks that it's his way or the high way. He is strong willed and LOVES to give orders. He is always "on" and does't know how to relax.
Victoria is fierce girl who can handle herself. She hates being told what to do and she hates being treated like a child.
Last time these two were together it did not end well. Andrew was an jerk and Victoria was hooked...LOL.
This time around Andrew needs Victoria...but he does't exactly treat her better then the last time he saw her. Victoria stands her ground for a hot minute, but once she agrees to a partnership of sorts with Andrew things take a turn.
Will Andrew be able to resist the pull he feels towards Victoria or will he give in and finally take what he wants for once in his life? Will the mistakes he made in the past make it impossible to more forward? Well pick up this book and find out.
I can not wait for the next installment!!

This was like reading the first few chapters of a larger book, so I wasn't surprised to read (when I was preparing the review) this is part of a 6-book serial. Royal Mistake #1 has an unresolved ending, and the reader is teased up to the cliffhanger ending that tells us nothing. Readers will need to weigh if the 2.99 price per 125-150 pg episode will be a value for them. For me? Not so much, I would recommend Royal Mistake if offered as a full book for a reasonable price, but I hate serials. Since this download was my own fault for not reading the blurb to the end-- where the author clearly states this is a 6-part serial-- I will rate the episode received as very interesting with some very witty (and snarky) dialogue. Prince Andrew seems like a bit of a wimp, but maybe that's because Victoria seems like a shrew. Story dragged out way to long with the back and forth of Victoria trying to draw out Andrew's backstory (which he won't tell her until she signs a contract).

Not what I was expecting

I don't know what to think of this book. It has the potential to be a good book if it had not been for the ending. Andrew is the prince of Montovia, and against his better judgement, he has to ask Victoria for help. Victoria is a tabloid reporter who has covered his family several times. Andrew is concerned that a scandal involving him is about to break and needs her help for damage control. He refuses to tell her the story until they are back in his country. Before they can make it back to Montovia, something happens to prevent them from returning. While they are stranded looking for help, their attraction starts to grow. They fight it because she thinks that he is too stuck up and he dislikes her job. At times they could be infuriating with the way they would treat each other. I just hope the next book is better

Verbal Contention Abounds

I enjoyed the verbal repartee in the "Royal Mistake" between Prince Andrew and Victoria Simpson, a reporter. Unfortunately, even though our Prince needs Victoria's help he dislikes her career choice and the fact that he needs her. Unfortunately, on the way back to Montovia the plane crashes in the middle of nowhere. Coping with lack of shelter, water, food, and medical supplies brings a grudging respect for each other. Just as they finally arrive back in civilization the book is... to be continued. A very unsatisfactory non-ending. I much prefer stand alone books. Rena Peak's writing style pulls you into the story and will compel you to at least buy the next installment in the story.

This was a cute and somewhat infuriating story of the Crown Prince and the American tabloid journalist.

Victoria is smart and sassy and VERY tired of her job chasing around the Montovian Royal family and telling their exploits.

Prince Andrew is heir to the throne and open times a Royal A$$hole! He is as pretentious as he is gorgeous. Though maybe not gorgeous enough to keep his Royal foot out of his condescending mouth!

Drama unfolds and causes the two of them to come together to fix an issue the Prince has. Additional drama unfolds causing these two to spend "quality" time together like it or not.

Someone may or may not have tripped into feelings and now everything seems to get more complicated by the moment.

The Prince hatches a hairbrained scheme and then the book ends ...

This wasn’t a particularly fantastic book but it also wasn’t a bad one either, it was just kinda meh 🤷🏻‍♀️
There were some parts I really enjoyed like the prince trope but I also came to dislike it in the end since it was so often repeated just like everything else. Oh she’s a reporter I wouldn’t have guessed from the 5 million times you mentioned it! Or he’s a Prince wtf no way I also wouldn’t have guessed from the billion times it was said.

Not sure if I’ll continue the series? I probably will if I have nothing else to read.

Not Bad - Just Not For Me

This novella (a little short to call it much else) was not bad, it just wasn't my cup of tea. The characters were somewhat too predictable (an arrogant modern Prince, the lady with a mysterious past) and I felt the drama of the situation a little over the top. For some people, this would be a great series, but I'll not be reading on to discover what 'horrible situation ' Andrew got himself messed up in.

Ok didn't expect that!

I received this book via email, and was requested to write a review.
I did not expect this story line, got quite a shock but it was interesting. I think I can see where this series is going, but I guess I'll have to read the series to find out.
I think the character's are believable, they worked really well. I enjoyed the Victoria character, and Andrew was stiff, just the way Renna wanted it. I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of the family.

Although I've not been drawn into this the way I was with Royal Heartbreaker, I'm finding it is compelling reading. This one is about Prince Andrew and Victoria Simpson, celebrity journalist and friend of Elle's. The dynamic between them is interesting, to say the least. The plot is certainly unexpected. Luckily, book #2 was offered to fans for free so I'll be moving on to reading that now, but it will need to be outstanding to make me want to purchase #3.

Ok, I admit I'm not into sequels, however the story keeps me intrigued. The hero an heir to the throne of Montavia and the super sassy strong willed journalist have quite a dialogue going. Each stubborn and unwilling to completely trust each other. I have picked up the next sequel.

This is a serial but I’m glad it comes in a complete set.

The characters are interesting in that Prince Andrew really is an asshole, but we really don’t know why.

Something has also happened in Victoria’s past too. And we still have no answers. Luckily this book serves as a good getting to know you point in the series.

I look forward to reading the next one.

Disappointing

I LOVED this story, but this book ends before the couple gets together, before you get either backstory, and right in the middle of a scene of high tension. I can see this being a great series, but the least an author can do is stop a book at a semi-reasonable place in the story.

Great read

This was a great read. It's well written and I love the characters with their quirks. Major cliffhanger at the end but the series is completed so I can binge through them...lol

If you hate a cliffhanger then you will hate this book. Period. Don't bother. The story just stops abruptly. It's not even a smooth cliffhanger... like someone just pulled a page from the book and said "ok, this is the end now."

Cliffhanger

I'm used to cliffhangers at this point. Authors seem to think it's the best way to keep readers engaged and while i do not like it i have accepted it. This book however was one big cliffhanger. Nothing was revealed within the storyline only character development.

A different kind of story that'll have you hooked. An interesting perspective of two complete opposites from two different places. The ending is a bit surprising and it ends with a cliffhanger but definitely worth reading.

I was left pretty disappointed with this book. I like the beginning and it was starting to get interesting and then, boom it was done. It didn’t really go anywhere. There wasn’t much to review. 2 stars.

Disappointed!

Such a great story. Exciting and suspenseful, until the end just dropped off into nothingness. I don't do cliffhangers if this can even be called that. The first two chapters of the next book don't even pick up where this one leaves off. No thank you!

Tell you it’s a cliff hanger. What a hanger it is. Didn’t realize this free book was a spin off. May have too look into the others.
Enjoyed the two. Love the fighting.
