Victoria Anderson is a nerd. Ask anyone, including herself, and they will tell you she loves reading more than just about anything else in the world. The only problem with that is the other students at Allendale High School. With practically all her classmates focused on sports, sports, and more sports, Victoria is happy to avoid the spotlight and hang out with fellow nerd and book lover Lilly. That is, until hockey star Blake Frasier comes to her for help. Between his inability to understand the play Macbeth, and his lack of enthusiasm for studying, Blake is in hot water as his English grade begins dropping lower than ever before. Knowing a failing grade will mean being kicked off the schools’ hockey team, Blake needs help from Victoria and fast! But, as Victoria soon learns, the challenge of tutoring someone like Blake is going to be greater than she first thought. With the final exam looming overhead, it looks like it’ll take a miracle to keep Blake from kissing his passing grade and spot on the hockey team goodbye.

I read this book via an Amazon KINDLE unlimited download.
One of reasons I decided to download this book is that involves the Shakespearian play “Macbeth” which brought me back to the ninth grade when in our English teacher had us read the play aloud in class, and the day the class clown when coming back from what had to be the bathroom responded to the teacher’s reading Lady Macbeth line “Out, out damn spot” by saying “Okay, I’m going. I’m going” and walking out of the classroom. When he walked back in, the entire class started to laugh, with the teacher TOTALLY CRACKING UP by what he said and did.
Enough about me.
Hey ladies, if you can remember your days back in high school; you know what I’m talking about, where the good-looking hot girls got all of the attention from the boys, especially those who played sports and the nerdy plain looking ones got perpetually left by the wayside. Victoria Anderson along with her book nerdy friend Lilly are two such girls who never ever get any attention from any of the boys.
Blake Frasier, the school’s ace hockey player is basically like any sports player at his school, he’s not only thoroughly devoid of any eagerness to study, he also lacks any comprehension of Shakespeare’s play Macbeth. The combination of these two items is creating a major dilemma for him as his English grades are approaching rock bottom, which when it happens would force him off the hockey team.
His only salvation from his possible demise of remaining on the hockey team is to sheepishly go and ask Victoria for her help so he can stay on the team. Being the serious student, she is, and with her love in helping others, Victoria agrees to offer her assistance. But, as we’ve all learned about doing something like this, she finds out that the task she’s undertaken is fraught with challenges she ever would have imagined.
Will Blake paid attention to everything Victoria is trying to do for him? Will Victoria get through to Blake enough that he’ll be able to pass that all-important test on Macbeth? But, more importantly, could there be a possible budding relationship between these two protagonists, a relationship which might cause every in-crowd girl at school becoming envious of Victoria for having possibly caught Blake’s admiration?
For giving her readers, including me, a very endearing story of two different personalities coming together first for a specific goal and then expanding into possibly more congenially meaningful, I’m giving Ms. Burkey the 5 STARS she’s earned.
A bit disappointed about the ending. Not even a kiss? I was waiting for a kiss and then nothing happened. What a shame, I would have rated it higher with at least a kiss in the ending. Blake was really sweet and I liked him. Also a real shame this was too short, I'd have liked to read more, to get to know the main characters better.
I am happy to announce that I will be kicking off the new year with the release of this book, as well as one other, in the month of January! Mark your calendars for the release of "On Thin Ice" a YA sports romance. This book was a fun to one to write as it combines my love of YA romance, Shakespeare, and even hockey! I cannot wait to share it with everyone, and will have ARC copies in the next two weeks for those looking to give it an early read in exchange for an honest review! Happy 2017 people!!
Fun very short romantic book about two teenagers. One is very popular and a key hockey player for the team and the other is a nerd who is the smartest girl in the school. Boy asks Girl to help him pass his classes so he doesn't get kicked off the hockey team. What will happen?
