Ms. Sinclair is a local writer and Amazon best-selling fantasy author with books crossing into YA epic fantasy, NA Urban fantasy, paranormal romance, mystery, suspense, and Sci-fi genres.

Parker gives credit to the development of her imagination and passion for writing to multiple childhood destinations lacking indoor plumbing. It may sound odd, yet when your journey to adulthood consists of numerous backpacking, camping, and hiking trips to the most out-of-the-way and breathtakingly beautiful places in North America, the creation of games, worlds, and characters are the results. She would never trade the childhood her parents gave her, and she thanks them for raising her to have her own thoughts, dreams, and bountiful imagination. Oh and she wishes to thank them for teaching her that one should never leave their jeans on the floor of an everglades campground shower—lest they do the dance of the scorpions in the pants again!

While attending college, Ms. Sinclair studied biological sciences and psychology, specifically animal behavior, but her love has forever been to write. There are boxes in her house filled with notebooks, journals, and logs with poems, stories, lyrics, and personal rants scratched into them with pencil, marker, pen, whatever she could get her hands on. Words demanded to be thrown out of her mind and onto paper by any means necessary. Ms. Sinclair’s studies have contributed greatly to the worlds, characters, and stories she creates, proving that no matter what path you take, it will all be part of where you end up—sometimes in spectacular ways!

Since 2007, Ms. Sinclair calls Virginia Beach home where she is employed as a full-time writer, is a licensed educational counselor, and finds some of the best times to write late into the night after her kiddos, and in many cases, her husband, are fast asleep.

Eve of the Exceptionals
Parker Sinclair
4 out of 5 stars
Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair is a fantasy / science fiction romance novel. This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed reading it as I felt thrown into the world of magic. She created a world unlike any other, with the magical beings which were very creative throughout the book. I can honestly say the characters and plot of this story kept me completely submerged in the book just waiting to see what happened. This book has such vivid details and is written great! I can’t wait to read more from Parker Sinclair!
Prince Ryzyn and Gem get thrown together in the very beginning when he saves her from being captured after stealing The Heart of Cyan which is an ancient object that when used properly it ignites a power like none other. When they part their phrase is “Be Swift…Be True” I loved this phrase and it’s stuck since. The heart of Cyan can only be used by some people and the Prince happens to be one of those people. But what will this mean for him? Gem ran away after that night with the Prince and ends up joining the Kings Guard about 4 years later. Will he finally find Gem and will they have a chance finally at love like he wants? Can he save the world from darkness?

This is going to be long.
I always hope to like the books I read, otherwise I wouldn't even pick them up.
Naturally, I've become more and more exigent with my reads, I now know what I like, what I don't and why, just as I can distinguish what it is lacking and where it has gone wrong.

This book is about a girl named Gem and Prince Ryzyn's adventure to save their kingdom. Prince Ryzyn must learn to control "The Heart of Cyan", a magic jewel that will grant its wielder a great power to someday save their world from a great darkness. While Gem wants to become the first female soldier.

I had many problems with this book.
First, and my major problem was the world-building. Or well, the lack of it. We only know that:
1) There's this great darkness that will some day destroy it all.
2) Animas (some kind of shape-shifters) exist after many, many years of appearing to be extinct.
3) There's this magical jewel that will stop the darkness somehow.
Where does this darkness come from? Why does it want to destroy everything? What are the rules for the use of magic? Who or how was this jewel created? Why, how, where, who, WHEN? We know nothing about anything.

The clichés
Clichés work very well in general, I don't think people would still use them if they didn't. But in order to make it work, you have to give it a fresh turn, something that makes it original despite being a cliché.
Here we don't have such a thing.

Third, one of the golden rules: show, don't tell. There's so much telling in this book, whole pages. And to be completely honest, I was grateful, it kept things short (and saved us lots of treks). However, when you're writing a novel, showing is your best tool. Telling keeps a distance between the story and the reader, it prevents the reader from bonding with the characters.

Insta-love
I am so tired of finding this in almost every book. And I'm not asking for them to have always a love-hate relationship, just a realistic one.
The main characters fall in love from the first moment they meet. And their love is predestined and mighty and so on. And it was so cheesy too! I didn't like it nor believe it.

There was no tension and a great lack of development.
Why should I keep reading this book when I know perfectly well that this is going to end with a "happily ever after"? Make things interesting! Make us anxious, make us doubt of how the book will end! Give us 50% of possibilities of things going south! 75-80%!

And the lack of development shows more than once. Example: the princess who has an important roll in the story but whose character is never developed. We just know she's vital because the author tells us she's vital.

The characters were flawless.
Yes, all of them so nice, so handsome, so cute and good and smart and brave. It just isn't realistic. Nor relatable. There was no connection between me and the characters. They become surreal when they are perfect.

The dialogues.
Dialogues are very important, and just as complicated. But these ones... Oh God, these ones were ridiculous. Each and every time the old (and always wise) characters opened their mouths was to give advice. Always. They were always giving the most clichéed self-help advice that there exist to the younger characters. It was a failed attempt to give depth to the book. And they were also so, so cheesy! The book was almost dripping honey from the sweetness and cheesiness of the dialogues.

The names.
I know there's this new fashion of giving eccentric (weird) names to characters. But authors need to be careful! My mother tongue is Spanish, and obviously, it has a different phonetic to the English one.
We have Prince Ryzyn. And well, I didn't want to hear raisins in my head every time I read his name, so I used my Spanish phonetic instead to read "ree-seen." Bad thing about letting my Spanish phonetics take over was Gem's last name. Kalson. Commander Kalson. Dang, the word for underpants in Spanish is "Calzón." And I couldn't help but imagine giant underpants in armour each and every time I read it.

At last, everything happens so conveniently, especially the end. All in all, I didn't enjoy the book, not even the writing style.

*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.

Eve of the Exceptionals is a spellbindingly brilliant fantasy by Parker Sinclair. I opened the book and within a few pages I was completely captivated by this enthralling tale. I couldn’t put it down, each page leading me further into the story and leaving me needing to know what would happen next. Ms. Sinclair’s character development in this book is superb- each and every one of the characters brought something special to the story, and helped weave this rich and beautifully textured tale. The world building is exquisite- so vividly detailed and imaginatively descriptive. Ms. Sinclair transports us to the wonderful world of Parlethis to experience the story alongside the characters. She sweeps us into this adventure, using her masterful word-smithing skills and paints such a complex, fascinating and enchanting picture- that really captured my imagination, as well as permanently etching itself into my heart. This story stayed with me long after I finished, it comes to mind quite often and always leaves me feeling good. I expected a lot from Ms. Sinclair, because I really love her Alex Connor Chronicles Series and wasn’t sure she would be able to top them. But, she not only met my expectations, she exceeded them. This story is quite different from the other books she’s written- and she pulls it off superbly, showcasing just how versatile, imaginative and talented she really is.
The story is full of magic, with mages, wizards, shapeshifters and wonderful creatures unique to this enchanting world. So, strap yourself in and prepare to set off with Gem, Prince Ryzyn, a wolf called Shaw, an Anima called Finn, a Dragon called Arrow and a host of other characters as they set off on a journey to save their kingdom from an evil ‘darkness’ that threatens to destroy their world. Will they unravel the prophecies in time? Can they learn to work together and use their powers properly? What happens on their adventure? Who can they trust? Will they be able to save the kingdom or will they be defeated?
I am really struggling to do this book the justice it deserves. You really need to read this riveting fantasy for yourself, because I am sure you will love it, just like I did/do!
If you are a fantasy lover and Ms. Sinclair isn’t on your must read list, then she really should be because you are missing out on some amazing stories!
I am anticipating what she has in store for us next. I can’t wait!

Thank you, Ms. Sinclair!

Eve of the Exceptionals
By: Parker Sinclair
5 out of 5 stars

The story Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair is a science fiction/fantasy book. Fate brings the young Prince Ryzyn and the rover girl Gem together. Their lives not only become forever entwined, their meeting also ignites the power of the Heart of Cyan, an ancient object. With the Heart now found, the wielder must prepare for an epic battle again a pervasive darkness that threatens all of the Parlethis. Magical forces join together, however, will it be enough to stop the Shadowland creatures from destroying them all?

What an amazing story! It has magic, mythical creatures, and a love story that is destined to be. The characters that I love the most are Prince Ryzyn, Gem, and all the mythical creatures that are their friends. Although they meet when they are very young Prince Ryzyn and Gem never forget this first meeting and the feelings they have for each other only grows over the years. I love Gem because she is strong, independent, and is always looking for ways to better herself. Prince Ryzyn knows he has a duty to perform and takes his training very seriously. He does sometimes feel like he isn’t given all the information that he needs. I won’t go into each and every creature that is introduced as I believe that they make the story as special as Ryzyn and Gem does. I have always loved fantasy books as they keep your imagination working overtime to see what is being described. The cover of this book is also one of the reasons that I was drawn to it. This is the first book I have read by the author and I can’t wait to read another. Her writing is easy to read and you don’t feel overwhelmed in either characters or the plot of the book.

Once I started reading I had it done in one day. I just couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this book for all who love adventure mixed with wonderful characters and don’t forget a little romance.

5/5 stars

I absolutely love Parker Sinclair’s imagination! She has such an amazing way of telling a story. If you love to read the paranormal genre. Then this is a book for you!! This story, you get sucked into a world , full of magical creatures, shapeshifters, talking animals and mystical people. It's full of action and suspense. You will not be able to put it down. Trust me on this, you'll forget the world around you!! I love those type of books!!

You'll meet Prince Ryzyn , Gem( and Gems Anima, Finn). Who are completely different from one another. But together, they are a force to be reckoned with.

They must unite to ignite the power of the Heart of Cyan. If it's used properly it ignites , a power like no other. Only certain people can ignite that power of the Heart of Cyan. Can Prince Ryzyn and Gem awaken the power? Will they be able to work together and save their kingdom?

With the awakening of heart… Gem is also warned that their is a darkness sweeping across the land. For her to be ready and prepared. Will they be able to stop the darkness from destroying everything in its path? Can they stop it before it's too late??

Prince Ryzyn has never been able to forget about Gem. Upon meeting her again, he wonders if she feels the same way about him. Does she love him, like he loves her? He hopes that their hearts cross paths once and for all!!

You have to read Eve of Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair … this incredible journey will have you on the edge of your seat!! You will not be able to put it down , once you start reading. Ms. Sinclair has a bright future in writing. I can not wait to see what she has in store next!!

Let me start by saying i love Parker Sinclair‘s covers. She has some beautiful ones and this one is just as beautiful. I would souly buy this book just looking at the cover. Yes, i do judge a book by its cover.
Fate brings Prince Ryzyn and rover girl Gem together to ignite the Heart. They have never forgotten their first meeting or the feelings they have for each other. The Heart of Cyan is an ancient artifact the ignites amazing power, that is when it is used properly. The Prince just happens to be one of those people who can harness the power. He doesn't quite understand why or how he seems to be a person to harness the power.
When the Heart of Cyan’s power awaken it starts an epic battle that threatens all of the Parlethis. Can they save their land? Will the darkness win over the good? Can they all come together for the good of Parlethis?

I loved this book because it takes me into this magical world with the magical forces as they fight this darkness threatening everything they know. Not only is Prince Ryzyn a good Leader who takes his training very serious but he knows that some stuff isn't always the truth. Well it's more like he knows he is only getting the bare minimum when it comes to certain things. Gem is strong, independent, and she seems to always find ways to better herself. She is amazing. You can't help but know that they are each other's better halves. This book has a way of sucking you in and keeping you in its claws till you are done reading it. Even then you feel this left over story and you end up reading it again and realize you missed some things that makes the book even better. Parker Sinclair’s book at so detailed and descriptive that the words just play out like a movie in you mind. This would be an amazing teenage movie.

This is my first book by this author, and definitely will not be my last. I don’t normally read this genre but after reading the book synopsis I was led to giving it a try, and I am so glad I did. Wow is all I can say, it was fast paced and flowed perfectly. The author gave enough information on each page that kept me from ever getting lost and made it so that I could not put the book down. It was such a fun, creative story about two young people who first meet under odd circumstances that result in him, the Prince helping her to escape and leaving himself to endure the consequences of her actions. Neither of them having any idea that that meeting and those circumstances would play a part in the future of their lands and the safety of so many.

Ryzyn and Gem, had no idea what their futures would entail, and in the years since could not get the connection they both felt out of their minds, and four years later as the darkness starts to take over all the lands, their purpose in life begins to unfold. Gem has fought hard and long to become the first female to be chosen as apart of the Kingsguard, and one of her first duties is to locate and save Prince Ryzyns sister, Princess Avalyn. This goal brings Ryzyn and Gem together to fight the evil that is trying to take over all the lands. With the help of witches, and mages, and an unlikely otterman ally they set out on an adventure full of danger as slowly but surely the truth of their future and Gem’s past starts coming together.

I loved this book, and would recommend it to everyone. The style of writing was amazing, and I can not wait to check out what else this author has available.

Eve of the Exceptionals By Parker Sinclair

Eve of the Exceptionals By Parker Sinclair is s story that is fantasy and mystical. Parker Sinclair has hit it out of the park again with Eve of Exceptionals! She is quickly becoming an author that I will buy every single book she puts out. She has a certain way of creating a story that makes you feel as though you right there with characters. Eve of Exceptionals is another 5 star hit!

It starts by a little fate bringing Price Ryzyn and Gem together. Ryzyn is obviously a prince, while Gem is a rover girl, meaning she's human but she has special powers. She's trying to find her place in the world, being a human with special powers isn't easy. Even though Ryzyn and Gem are younger their meeting triggers the power of the Heart of Cyan, that's an ancient object and in triggering that the wielder must prepare for an epic battle. There are magical forces coming together like never before, but is it enough? Can they really stop the Shadowland Creatures?

Eve of Exceptionals is absolutely amazing, it weaves a web full of plot twists and turns. As always it's full of magic and magical creatures. There's witches, shifters and mythical creatures that are good and bad. While each has to make their own choice on whether to choose the side of good or evil. Gem was my absolute favorite character through out the book, she's independent, strong and is constantly looking to better herself. I love when a female character is portrayed as an independent and strong character. Another amazing job again, Parker Sinclair!

Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair

***** 5 Stars

Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair is the first book I’ve ever read by this author. I truly enjoyed this book and would love to read more about this world and these characters. This book is fantasy/science fiction, which is one of my favorite categories if done correctly. Parker Sinclair hits the spot though, she creates a world unlike any other. This book is full of magical beings and creatures. And two young adults destined to save a kingdom. Fate brings Prince Ryzyn and Gem together as children, but what they discover, the Heart of Cyan, will bring them back together one day. Once the Heart of Cyan is discovered, Prince Ryzyn starts training on how to wield the Heart one day to defeat the darkness once and for all. He has searched for Gem all these years but never found her. Gem ran away from her parents and family after that fateful night and never went back. Four years later Gem is training to be a Kings Guard. But once she comes back to the castle everything begins to change. Will Prince Ryzyn remember her? She never once forgot about him. There’s an epic battle coming against the darkness that threatens to destroy them all. Will they be able to defeat it once and for all? I loved all the aspects and mythical creatures in this story. I loved Finn, Gem’s anima and even Prince Ryzyn’s wolf Shaw. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Book Review: Eve Of the Exceptionals
Author: Parker Sinclair
FIVE STARS
Parker Sinclair is the author of Eve of the Exceptionals and it is a great YA fantasy book with a happily ever after ending. The characters and the way they grow and learn is great. The lengths to which they go to become the young adults that they are is admirable. You sure don't find kids that age these days that are trying to become the heros that Ryzyn and Gem are becoming in this.
After the bond that draws them to one another continues to linger, can they find one another again and see what it is that keeps the bond? Will the young adults be able to prove themselves in the face of their foes and their followers/supporters?
Parker Sinclair is a fabulous writer and I am really looking forward to hopefully reading more about Ryzyn and Gem and their next adventures in life. For fear of giving away too much I won't go into detail other than to say that you really must read this. They challenges they face and the adventures they endure to save the kingdom makes them the heroes in this story.

Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair is my first book by this author. It is a quick read, but on the other hand if you do not pay attention you may miss a lot of symbolisms in the book.

From the beginning of the story, Gem and Prince Ryzyn were special to one another. They just did not know it at the time. Gem was sent after the Heart of Cyan and she did not realize that is what she was supposed to get from the castle. Gem had her hands on it but to make her escape she left it behind with Prince Ryzyn. She knew that she would be seeing the Prince and the Heart of Cyan again.

This story takes you on a roller coaster ride. There are magical beasts, good magic and evil magic. There is a love story in the background between Gem and Prince Ryzyn. If you miss one line the story will not have the same meaning. Magical forces keep moving towards the Heart of Cyan but only one can master the power, and so they thought.

The phrase “Be Swift Be True” will have a new meaning after you finish this story. I cannot wait to read more by Parker Sinclair.

Amazing read

I found this book in a author cross promo newsletter and was happy to find it in KU. I was not sure what to expect as this is epic fantasy and not urban fantasy. Well let me say that I was blown away by how amazingly well conceived story this is. It is written and edited very well so no annoying spelling or grammatical mistake to slow you down. This story is a light read, didn't drag on, didn't have any annoying tyrant monarch who hated magic but has dark magic at disposal and people waiting for a saviour against the tyrant ruler. This instead was a cute story of an amazingly brave and talented young girl and a prince. There is ofcourse a prophecy, darkness and danger. The people around them are immensely helpful, resourceful and friendly. The band consists of Gem, Prince Ryzyn, Finn, Arrow, Shaw, Stefan, Mella,MHarnett, Kendrick, Jarbien etc etc..
It's an amazingly light and sweet read.

Eve of the Exceptionals
By Parker Sinclair
5 Stars

Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair is a five-star fun, imaginative story. Prince Ryzyn and Gem come from two totally different worlds. They will have to put their differences aside to work together and save the kingdom.
Gem is a desert rover, who in attempting to help her family get caught trying to steal The Heart of Cyn. She is caught by Prince Ryzyn but he helps her escape and ends up having to deal with the consequences for helping her.
Gem and Prince Ryzyn do not encounter each other again until four years later. By then Gem has become the first female to be chosen for the Kingsguard. A mission for Gem brings her in back contact with Prince Ryzyn.
This story has it all, mythical creatures, witches, shapeshifters and many of these groups will have to work together to save the kingdom. This was such a fun story to read, and it was an amazing world to become a part of.

I loved this book so much that there really aren't words to express it. The world building, characters(which are AMAZING) and imagination of the author are try unique. This is a book that I am extremely happy that I took the time to read and will most likely read it again, it's that good. There are certain books that make a difference in your book world, and to me, this is one of them. I'm sure that is different for everyone, but this one is definitely on my list. I suggest that you absolutely pick it up. No matter your age. It truly is Exceptional. And just FYI, I do believe it is a stand alone. I could be wrong. But it does not end on a cliffhanger and it seems like it ends at the end.(haha!) Just my take, but again I come be wrong. I would love for it to be a series. Love, love, love!! Ok, done now. Please read. You will love it!

I give Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair 5 stars.

This book was outstanding! It is a young adult fantasy centered around Gem and Prince Ryzyn. They have a chance meeting when they were teens that will forever change everything. They cannot seem to forget one another, but at the same time, there is so much else going on in their worlds, they cannot focus on it.

This is a story of romance, action, adventure, and mystical beings and happenings. It is in the Young Adult category, but only because of the ages of the characters. This a story for all ages. I went into this story not knowing what to expect, and I was blown away at how good this book was! I could not put the book down! The characters are written exceptionally well and the story pulls you in at once. If you or your teen are looking for a wonderful fantasy story, I highly recommend this book!

It's been a while since I've read such a great adventure. I'm a sucker for world-building, and the world Sinclair built is such an interesting one. Different areas have different qualities that reflect the people there, and it is shown well. It wasn't paced too fast or slow overall, and I never thought to put the book down. It kept me interested the whole way. It was well put together, had some great character development for some early characters, which tied everything together nicely.
The character wasn't a Mary Sue, which is always a plus, which makes her all the more great..
I want to say more, but if I say too much I may risk spoiling some things, which I hate doing.
Amazing book. Would read again.

Eve of Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair

I love fantasy books. I love the break from the reality of pain and suffering. I look at these stories as my vacation from the real world.

What better vacation than one spent with shapeshifters, talking animals, princes, castles, and magic.

This is the 1st Parker Sinclair book I've read. I'm so impressed with the storytelling and the imagination. Not to mention the beautiful stunning cover.
She has an incredible way of luring you into her world.

This is adventure and fantasy, the kind you wanna see in Imax. That's how well Parker tells her story.

Come on and take a ride with Gem and Ryzyn. You won't be sorry!

This was a good book that I read fairly quickly! The story line was as amazing as all the characters that were brought to life in this book. I really enjoy books that seem to take a person to another world. The author has some imagination! This book has a large cast of characters that are very colorful. I really liked the idea of the Anima. What a cool idea and very helpful. This story is full of witches, Mage, Wizards and it had a very special dragon! The theme throughout of Be Swift -Be True was perfect!
I liked how the two main characters met. It’s like they knew! One moment in time can alter the course of your life.

Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair is a wonderful story with courage, heart and soul. Sinclair again has built a world of fantasy all her own. Her characters leap to life as the tale builds never leaving you lacking for adventure. This is a treat of the paranormal variety where we start and end the tale with discovery. Now I was a fan of Sinclair before this book is have read her Only series and fell madly in love with her ability to write so when this book came I was a bit worried she couldn't make another telling as good as those. I'm happy to say I was wrong. Keep your specific brand of magic come. Forever a fan!

This is the fourth book I've read by Parker Sinclair and she has outdone herself again. I love the Alex Conner Chronicles, but Eve of the Exceptionals is definitely my favorite. I had the story playing in my head for days after finishing the book. I would love to see this become a movie. Parker Sinclair also noted on her Facebook page that she uploaded a new version based on some minor editing errors she wanted to fix for her readers, so get your update. This book has magic, romance and adventure and is definitely a great read!

Eve of the Exceptionals written by Parker Sinclair. This was a cute story and I actually loved it. I read it with my son cause I’m trying to get him to expand his reading to different genres. This story not only held his interest he also asked to read some of it. The storyline was intriguing and addicting, right from the beginning you wonder what is going on with Gem and Prince Ryzyn. The way the story has action, adventure, fantasy and a little romance keeps you guessing what will happen next the whole time.

Eve of the Exceptionals is an exciting adventure story written by Parker Sinclair. Gem is a magical amazing warrior, she can stand up for herself and show compassion when it’s needed. The wonderful prince is on a journey all of his own after their mysterious first meeting that changes both of their lives. I love reading Parker Sinclair’s writing! She has a fresh take on classic fantasy and magic. This isn’t my first book by her and definitely won’t be my last!

What an adventure this was. A great story that takes you into a new world with magic and magic creatures you never would imagine.

Two people are on a quest to save the kindom and only a few will know what will happen such as the wizards you will meet. Interesting characters and fun adventure that any age could read.

This will take you into a different place and the writing was very creative that I could actually imagine myself in the kingdom. A job well done

I love this story. It's an engaging YA fantasy with animal companions, magic and demons. My only complaint is I wish it's longer!! It would have been nice to read this as an epic fantasy... it's so good!!!

This book contains wonderful potential. Sure, its plot reminds me of The Blue Sword and quite full of other cliches, but there is certainly entertainment in stories that promise magic, adventure and a badass heroine like Gem. However, this book falls short through a number of ways and just made it hard to read near the end.

First, the writing is clumsy. It annoyed me so much at how the setting changes in this book without.. well, setting the change of scene! It jumps from one character to another with the POV. Sometimes from paragraph to paragraph and even sentence to sentence! It doesn't explain or show the actions of the characters well too. One moment she's crying and the next, and I mean the next sentence, she calms down as she finds this mysterious plant with water that suddenly appears out of nowhere! Also, the story is supposed to be set in the middle ages so it's expected that the language would at least somehow pair with the period. But the book is filled with modern slang and phrases like "freak out" and "all systems go" that felt very odd and misplaced, not lending to the believability of the world-building. The writing, in general, is... just clumsy without all the things I just said. For example...

"They both know of her wanderlust, which may take her into the world without him, just as she knows that his duties as heir to the throne will carry him here and there."

It's clunky and doesn't have that poetic prose that stories of adventure in this kind of fantasy setting need. It doesn't have any good prose at all. The sentences are often long, words used are redundant, and so many sentences could have been edited so the flow would be better. Instead, we get clunky, clumsy, and grammatical errors that describe things by simply using adjectives to a noun, telling us instead of showing the story. For instance, saying, "the beautiful young witch" in contrast to saying why she's beautiful. It's also very inconsistent and uses "commander" and "captain" interchangeably to address Gem's rank which are two completely different positions. This is also applied to other soldiers who are much more experienced and clearly higher in rank. It doesn't make sense!

Second, lack of development. Not just for characters. Not just the world-building. Not just the relationships. Not just the magic system. It's everything! The characters are all perfect, nothing humanizing them and they come off as one-dimensional. The book also distinctly just avoids developing characters! Whenever there was something remotely interesting, it's tabled for the sake of the "mission's" urgency. The love story could have been explored because the way they remained connected was also interesting but it came off as insta-love. Harnett and Gem had more chemistry! I didn't quite get a good sense of the world and magic system. They were just brushed off. None of the characters were likeable except Harnett for me. But even he was inconsistent from the beginning to the end and could be avoided if we knew more of his story. The lead villain mastermind also wasn't introduced until late into the book and before then, we only have this veeeeeery basic idea of a "darkness". Like, for a standalone book, you need better than a general concept of "darkness". AND WE STILL DON'T KNOW ITS NAME!

Third, the plot. It just suffers a lot from all of these things. By not fleshing out interesting bits, even to the most basic idea of contextualizing the plot which was quite curious, the events are brushed off. They are told instead of being shown and we get a telling of a story. It became rushed due to all this too. I would actually appreciate it if the book just slowed down to flesh out the details and good bits it promised. There were plot holes too when so many things could have been avoided if they didn't unnecessarily withheld information. The book didn't give any good reasons why they did so. As a result, by near the end of the book (it is a fast read, only about 200 pages), I was forcing myself to finish it.

The author has potential to create epic fantasies. But she has to work on her writing, the basics of story-telling, and just slow down the pace. and well.. much more.

Eve of the Exceptionals by Parker Sinclair is a story that is mystical and fantasy. This story is action, excitement and suspenseful. This story show you what happens when fate brings two people together and the power they bring together. This story will pull you into a world of talking animals, mystical beings and royalty. You will want to see what happens with all these mystical characters.

The Heart of Cyan is an ancient object what when used properly it ignites a power like none other. Fate will bring Prince Ryzyn and Gem together to ignite the power of the Heart of Cyan but will they also become entwined together forever? Only certain people can make the power of the Heart of Cyan work and he happens to be one of them. He is confused with why things happen when he touches it but not when others touch it. He has always wanted to be with Gem, will he have his chance now? How will she feel? Is there a love to be found with them?

With the awakening the powers of the Heart of Cyan, it also has started an epic battle with a darkness that threatens all of the Parlethis. Will the magical forces unite for the good of the land or will they destroy everything? Will these forces be able to stop the Shadowland creatures from destroying everyone? This is an incredible journey full of magical beings, mystical creatures and two people trying to save a kingdom. Will they save the kingdom? Will their hearts be bonded for life?

This is my first read by Parker Sinclair. Parker lives in Virginia Beach with her husband and children. She works as an educational counselor when she is not writing. Growing up words demanded to flow out of her and she used any means necessary to get it on paper. This is a fun reading mystical story that will have you wanting to see what will happen with all these characters.. The characters will have you turning page after page. I highly suggest this story as I know you will enjoy this story as much as I have.

An exciting read about needing the help of others. Gem is a desert rover seeking to steal a treasure for her family. She is caught red handed by the prince Ryzyn, but he lest her live. Meanwhile, he discovers this treasure, the Heart of Cyan can be used by him alone to save his kingdom from darkness. Years pass, and he trains with the help of a wizard Aldon to learn the powers of this gem. Meanwhile, Gem becomes a soldier in the Knights Guard as one of the best archers despite her gender. When events with a rival spiral out of control, she discovers she may also contain the power of the Heart and Ryzyn needs her help. Ryzyn ravels to Cyan to discuss the prophecy. While there, dark forces are unleashed through a Seer. Ryzyn's palace is attacked and his sister is captured. Gem helps to try to rescue his sister as dark forces rise to take over the kingdom nd the world. Can Ryzyn find Gem in time? Can they defeat the darkness with the Heart together before it is too late?
well written plot. Well developed characters, particularly in the strong character of Gem. I also enjoyed the slip of gender pronouns when Connar first announces she might be the one they seek. I also adored the visual detail employed. in particular with the detail of the island of Cyan and the mermaid and even the Heart itself. Also the red roses of Ryzyn's kingdom and the blue flowers of Cyan. The Merlin like figure of Aldon was written perfectly. I thought the dark witches and the wolf was a nice addition to the story.
However, at times, I felt that this novel could have done with more paragraph breaks. Eitehr this or perhaps a fewer shorter sentences (or at least to vary the length) to increase dramatic tension and emotion. if this was employed, it would be a five star in my opinion. Even so, with its spellbinding tale of two people trying to save a fantasy world from destruction, it enchants the reader with action and magic. Overall, a captivating read and I would give it four stars.

What an adventure into a fantasy world! Thank you Parker Sinclair for sharing the world of Parlethis and all of the Exceptionals with us!

“Be Swift…Be True.”

Gem is a young woman, who is like all young adults, learning about herself and her place in the world. Gem is a little different than your average human, she has powers, skills and an Anima. An Anima is a shape shifter. Most of the time Gem's Anima is a cheetah. Gem is a young teen when she meets Prince Ryzyn for the first time. And it is love at first sight…at least they both think so. However after being away from each other for many years, that one night meeting could have meant anything. They don’t know what the fates have in store for them but they soon find out that their paths are destined to cross again. The two meet again when they must save the kingdom of Parlethis from the evil darkness threatening to destroy everything and everyone in the land.

This story includes many people with special powers, mythical creatures, both good and bad. Witches, shifters, and even an otter-man! Many of these beings join forces to help with the quest of saving the kingdom. Some even try to side with the evil. No one, not even the wizards, know what’s going to happen or how they will defeat the darkness but they all seem to agree that the time is now.

“It isn’t that anyone was in denial about the stories of a darkness that would attack the land; no, this just all happened so fast when everyone thought time was on their side.”

This story was fun to read and I love when I get to the part when the title and even the cover makes sense! This is a story that is recommended for all ages.

4 Stars ****

Eve of the Exceptionals is the first book that I have read by Parker Sinclair but it will not be the last. This book is an amazing story of mystical fantasy, twists, turn and magical objects.
Gem meets Prince Ryzyn while trying to while trying to steal treasure from the castle; in order to escape she must hand over the treasure in exchange for him to tell her how to escape the castle without being detected. Since the prince now holds the Heart of Cyan, he must now learn to harness it. For the next few years he is taken around and trained on how to use the powers. His thoughts never stray to far from the precious Gem he met on that fateful night. When he returns home to the castle, he cannot believe his eyes when he sees the woman of his thoughts and dreams.
Gem has been training for years now to be part of the king’s guard and when Prince Ryzyn returns, she forgot how strong the feelings between them are. They must both work together to rescue the princess while using the powers of the Heart of Cyan. Will they be able to get the job done with all of the attraction between them or will they fail the mission before it begins?
I thought that this book was great at keeping you hooked and trying to find out what happens next. I for one was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I loved the way that Gem and Prince Ryzyn danced around each other and that they couldn’t fight the feelings between them. If you like books full of suspense, mystery, and magical creatures than this is the book for you!
