Kim Fielding lives in Oregon and travels as often as she can manage. A professor by day, at night she rushes into a phone booth to change into her author costume (which involves comfy clothes instead of Spandex and is, sadly, lacking a cape). Her superpowers include the ability to write nearly anywhere, often while simultaneously doling out assistance to her family. Her favorite word to describe herself is "eclectic" and she finally got that seventh tattoo.
A very satisfying sequel to Good Bones. I wanted to know what was next for these men and this story more than answered the questions that I had. Chris and Dylan are still working to renovate Dylan's old house and I'm really glad this story didn't jump past this because I love to see them working on and fixing the place together.
There's a paranormal twist here as a ghost starts haunting them and the men try to understand how to lay the spirit to rest. This leads to Dylan contacting an old friend, Ery, who I hope will have a story. He deserves to find his spark.
A bit of werewolf politics at play here but the story is more about family as we see Chris struggle with his own history as he accidentally meets up with his estranged father.
I loved this story. Chris is still prickly and Dylan still insecure but the relationship development moves in a realistic and wonderful way. I'm completely satisfied with the story I just want more of all the characters. They have a brief cameo in The Gig as well.
Adorei buried bones 😄
This is a sequel to Good Bones. Truthfully, I didn't remember anything from first book that was left unanswered, so at first I did wonder if sequel was necessary. However, after I finished reading, I found this book to be a good addition to give readers more time with Dylan and Chris.
I enjoyed reading how Dylan and Chris working together; they were pretty romantic (without being too mushy) and really good together. I loved how the conflict here wasn't about trust or miscommunication or the usual martyrdom ("My being werewolf made you in danger, etc, etc). Instead, the conflict happened due to external situation -- a family issue, which probably why the title "Buried Bones" was apt.
I didn't mind the ghost plot -- I actually enjoyed stories with ghosts -- however, there were moments in the middle of the story that the ghost plot felt a bit too dragged out and it lost its momentum. I would probably liked it better if the identity of the ghost was revealed a bit earlier. Sometimes, the ghost plot even felt like it was being neglected for Dylan and Chris to do some lovin'
I loved the other plot as well, with Chris's father. Sometimes, a family member coming up became an over-the-top soap drama storyline. However, this one was quite well-written and it gave the emotional nuance to Chris -- as well as giving him the extra 'story' to tell, since he wasn't a werewolf and wasn't the one with baggage (of dead ex-boyfriend).
There were new characters introduced -- Ery and his grandmother -- and I would love to read more about them. Especially Ery, I wanted to read about him falling in love.
3.5 stars This was pretty good, though I much preferred the first book. This story wasn't as focused. It was sort of a long epilogue. I think the author wanted to visit again with the characters but didn't really have much of a story to tell. The ending was too mushy and neatly wrapped up for my taste.
This book offered much-needed closure to Dylan and Chris's story. There was a paranormal twist, as the guys discover that the large house is haunted. Who's haunting it and why is something they slowly figure out with the help of a psychic grandma who's not ruffled by a thing.
The grandma was an awesome secondary character, as was her grandson Ery, Dylan's friend and the MC of book 3.
It also turns out the Dylan is, unfortunately, not quite the lone wolf he thought he was. Ugly pack tensions arise. And Chris's long-lost dad wants to reconnect with his son.
Dylan and Chris have a lot to deal with, and deal with it they do, even as they continue remodeling their house.
My favorite part of this book was watching Dylan and Chris's relationship get ever stronger. There is no relationship angst here! Yeah, the MCs sometimes irritate each other (Chris is still too snarky for his own good, and Dylan can be a bit moody), but their chemistry is smokin' hot, and their devotion to each other enduring and real. The ending was perfect.
Ultimately, this was a heartwarming story about family and love. What could be better?
In book 2, Dylan and Chris are forging a life together. They are working diligently on refurbishing Dylan's house and feeling their way on their newly formed relationship. The latter will take some serious work. Each must confront and overcome some insecurities, including their differing backgrounds. To top it all off, they have an unwanted ghost interrupting their daily routine. As Chris battles his own ghosts from his past, he and Dylan must once again withstand a number of challenges and fight for their HEA.
I really enjoyed this sequel. Again, the writing was tight and the characters extremely likeable. I couldn't put this one down. (And that says a lot because I am not a fan of ghost stories.) The ending was exciting and satisfying.
Bottom-line: a worthy conclusion to the Bones series. I'm sorry to see it end. I hope we can revisit Dylan, Chris, et al in the future?
I struggled with this one, skipped all the sex scenes that punctuated the story. The story itself was weak, there's a ghost that they jump to conclusions over, a lot later they work out they were wrong and my first guess was right, and they're fictional characters so I couldn't even dramatically sigh 'I told you so'
Their chosen investigation leads gives a reason for some drama, then the end showdown is well bright and unexplained. Nothing has particular impact, kept feeling the story dragged along then things would happen and I was supposed to feel something. Not sure if that's my lack of connection to the characters or an imbalance in the story telling.
Chris is written too weak, his past story reads 'sob story' rather than as a tale of survival, never felt he was developed beyond the title smart redneck with traumatic past. Oh but he does a half smirk and tugs his cock a lot. Dylan the Werewolf, I actually had to check his name right now. There's some of Chris's pov but both men sound identical so it doesn't add anything.
Marty, female architect, is written very much like an assistant/support person rather than as an equally qualified person with her own ambitions. She's also 'round' and when she meets a chubby dentist they discover they have much in common...weight presumably.
The setting isn't developed anymore, no visual or feel for the renovations being done, all we really learn is the pond is deep.
When Dylan visits a 'toy shop' there was the uncomfortable feeling of TMI, sudden over sharing where there hadn't been any lead up.
The first story didn't wow me but was ok, this is doesn't add anything, really didn't work for me.
Buried Bones is book 2 in Author Kim Fielding's "Bones" series and in this story we have a return of the MC from book one - Dylan and Chris. Now though, we get to add a component to the story that often isn't written about (or maybe it's that I don't often read about them) a Ghost!
Chris and Dylan are still remodeling the old farmhouse and settling into their relationship when stuff starts happening. First, pay attention because there is foreshadowing from book one that comes into play here if you want to figure out who the ghost is early on -- honestly I think Chris should have caught on sooner when the fingerprints by a window just won't go away no matter how many coats of paint. But he doesn't and that leads to the introduction of an old college friend if Dylan's name Ery. Ery is brought in because his grandmother is somewhat of a spiritualist and Chris and Dylan seek help from her trying to figure out what to do about their ghost.
Meanwhile, Dylan is convinced the ghost is a certain werewolf from book one (we shall not say his name but his bones are buried on Dylan's property) that has come back to haunt him after his less than peaceful death (again happened in book one). Problem is Dylan doesn't know much about this nameless person, except he turned him into a freaking werewolf, but use-full stuff like full name, where he lived, etc..nah he never got that info during his 2 day fling over 2 years ago. So now, Dylan is on the hunt trying to find information to help the restless spirit.
So Dylan gets the bright idea to look for the dead werewolves stuff that was on his motorcycle, the motorcycle that is at the bottom of the pond now on Dylan's Property -(had to hide it somewhere) while he is able to finally find the motorcycle in the very deep pond the information found in the saddle bags is pretty much worthless. Except for an old address on an ID - that of course Dylan goes to, which ultimately leads him to - A wolf pack. Let me tell you, the Alpha of the pack - he is a real jackass. Nothing good comes from meeting this pack, it gets them no closer to helping the ghost which is now escalating to throwing hammers, breaking windows, writing on walls and eventually writing on Dylan's computer in the word processor. So after all this, Dylan goes back to his friend Ery who gets his grand mom to come to the farm for an emergency intervention. Finally they find out who the ghost is.. And the wolf pack shows up to eliminate Dylan who they view as a threat.
It's during this last stand that something strange happens at the pond..one wolf heads across the shore doggy-paddling with intentions of hurting Chris -- and all of a sudden the wolf is pulled under the water and never seen again (must have been a big fish that ate the doggie, right?)
If that's not enough going on in this story our two MC after getting their ghost calmed down decide to move in together and finally be committed partners. Which of course is where our author ends it...
So, after reading this book I can safely say that Yes you must read all books in the series in order or you will not understand the story and will miss a lot of extra details. I wish the author got a little bit more into Chris's head as he has a Very snarky and bad attitude st times and I would love to get the entire story's as to what makes him tick. The characters from each book are in subsequent stories and it appears by the end of this book that Dylan is finally embracing his wolf a little better.
4 Stars for this action packed second book in "The Bones Series"

It was great to revisit Dylan and Chris, as well as the continued renovation of the house:-). Despite not having that same electricity that the "getting-together" 1st book always have, it was a a very comfortable and enjoyable story. Sometimes I felt it could have been cut down a bit, I don't really need every single details about what computer bag Dylan might or might not buy, even though it added to the everyday-feeling of their relationship.
It was also really nice to get Chris's POV, and to feel his insecurities which were only shown through Dylan's view in the 1st book. The ghost mystery made for a nice set-up, and I would really like to know what is hiding in that pond...
It got quite action-packed in the last part, and I wish that part could have been slightly longer. However, I am left with a warm fuzzy feeling thinking of the two guys, and look forward to reading about Ery next.
Ok I just gushed all over in my review of Good Bones, so I will keep this short and less gushy. (well I will try). Buried Bones is a wonderful sequel, I started this the moment I was done with the first one. This one picks up right where the other one ended, thank god! No missing time or detail, just right where I left my guys. This time the paranormal part is front and center, and in this book the guys are dealing with a ghost in their house. Dylan and Chris try to figure out how to get rid of it. At the same time Chris runs into his dad, who then tries to talk to him. Throw in a guy from Dylan’s past, a pack of werewolves and the action never stops! fun fun fun!
My shifter need has been satisfied, i can now move onto something else. At least for a little while.
3.5 Still enjoying Kim Fielding's version of a werewolf story. Maybe now on the 2nd read and after a lot of other shifter stories it might be too easy-going (don't know why people so easily accept the existence of werewolves just be being told) and I'm wondering if Kim Fielding would write it differently now after Rattlesnake or the Love-Can't series but I can still see what attraction the Bones series held for me when I read it the first time.
I five-starred the first book, but this one didn't resonate in the same way. I'm not crazy about ghost stories, and it didn't really hold my attention. Still, I like Kim Fielding's writing a lot. It was nice to spend more time with this couple.
While I still liked these characters and their relationship, this book didn't interest me as much as the first one did. The mystery felt obvious from the start so there was no suspense in that part, and the action climax was written in a weird timeline-jumpy way that also lessened the suspense and urgency that should have been vital at that point in the book. There was some nice relationship development that I enjoyed, but overall this was just an okay book.
The real Buried Bone here is the one I have to pick with the author in regards to the objectifying way some characters act towards Dylan and his relationship. In the previous book, his sister-in-law's relationship advice to him is followed by a narrative mention of all the gay romance books she owns. In this book Dylan's female colleague makes a sexual implication about his relationship, followed by a statement about how "a lot of straight women think boy-sex is really hot" and joking about how they should do porn. (I'm not even gonna discuss the term "boy-sex"). And it's not only female characters acting weird towards Dylan and Chris; Dylan's friend wants to take a picture of them because they "look like the cover of a romance novel", and jokes that he wants to film them have sex. I have issues with characters like these (at least when the book treats their remarks/behavior as normal and not as weird and inappropriate), because the way they view queer people partly, if not fully, through a lens of gay romance books and porn rather than as actual people makes me suspicious of the author's own views and intent with their writing.
I haven't seen characters or views like this in other works I've read by Fielding so I can't say whether or not it's a reflection of her actual views, but it's something I don't like seeing in queer romance and it definitely dampened my enjoyment of this book.
Buried Bones was a perfect follow up to Good Bones. While Good Bones ended with Dylan and Chris deciding to give coupledom a go, there wasn't really enough time for an HEA. Buried Bones gives them their HEA, but not before making them run the gauntlet a little bit.
Dylan and Chris are in love and figuring out their new life together when they discover that Dylan's new house is haunted. And when the ghost interrupts them having sex, Dylan doesn’t want to have sex at the house again until the issue is taken care of (no!). But what started as glimpses of someone out of the corner of Dylan's eye, and an odd odor of dirt, quickly escalates to destroyed objects and the ghost trying to communicate something. Apparently, though, the dead don't always do so well at communicating to the living, so Dylan decides to call up his old friend Ery to see if his grandmother, who is a medium, can help.
Ery and his grandmother are excellent additions to our cast of characters. Ery is one of Dylan's college friends and he's a very colorful character. Chris is a little jealous, at first, at their history, but quickly realizes that there is nothing there but friendship. Ery's grandmother is pretty cool. She takes everything in stride, and though surprised a bit, she doesn't shock easily.
Chris's long lost father also resurfaces and Chris is faced with a choice of forgiving him, or continuing to let his anger and hurt over being abandoned continue to rule. I don't envy him that choice because Chris has every right to be angry. But, staying angry can lead to regret, too, which isn't a good choice either.
And to top it all off, Andy's influence is still around as well. We get an insight as to what made Andy the way he was – and not just the werewolf, but the man. So, even though Andy is dead, and he wasn’t exactly a liked character of the first book, I kind of ended up feeling sorry for him in this one. Not much, mind you, but some. Even having been dealt a shitty family, he didn’t have to end up a murderous psychopath.
So, we get a lot of family in this one, both directly and indirectly, and most of the family issues are good ones. I do enjoy books that touch on the family theme, maybe because my family isn’t at all close and I just like to see examples where family members are kind of close and generally get along. It’s how it should be.
I recommend this series and this author. What I’ve read, so far, I’ve really enjoyed.
I just read Good Bones a few days ago, and I just had to continue Dylan and Chris’s story in Buried Bones…
Buried Bones starts off a few weeks after Good Bones, Dylan and Chris are still working on Dylan’s house together…and still working on their relationship. Both men still have so many silly insecurities but they are adorable and smexy together, so I forgive them. During one of their smexy times, on the kitchen floor :), Dylan thinks he sees a ghost in his house, kicking off the haunting. While Dylan and Chris try to get rid of the ghost, it leads them to people from their past: Dylan’s old friend and Chris’s father. It even stirs up some trouble with another werewolf pack!
I liked this story, but not quite as much as I liked the first one.
I’m not a huge fan of stories with established lovers, but I really like Chris and Dylan and there isn’t much angst between them at all; mostly sweetness.
I thought it was interesting that we get alternating POVs this time between Chris and Dylan. I was really excited at first to finally get inside Chris’s head, but I still preferred Dylan’s POV.
At first I thought the plot was all over the place: from the ghost to finding out more about Andy to encountering old friends and family. But in the end, everything came back and tied in together, although I thought it was obvious who the ghost was.
It got a little crazy near the end! And while I did learn more about the werewolf world, I was a little disappointed that I still have A LOT of questions.
I loved the HEA! The last chapter was soooooo sweet and it looks like Chris and Dylan’s story is probably complete, although I would totally read another book if they were in it. But what I really want…is Ery’s story!
Definitely recommended if you need closure after reading Good Bones.
Dylan and Chris are so sweet together. Another great book! I'm so behind that I wish I could write a much better review. I will just say...read this book (read Good Bones first) and you won't be disappointed! It's seriously really great!
When I enjoy a book, there’s nothing better than a great sequel. Buried Bones is an extension of the first story in the series, Good Bones. Dylan and Chris are together from the first page and they grow stronger and tighter as the pages fly by. Which makes this a clear follow-up and not a stand-alone. They are an unlikely couple for many reasons but Dylan’s alter ego is the most challenging hurdle they must overcome. Once a month Dylan lets his wild side free and he’s terrified of not being in control and potentially hurting Chris. He wants to shelter him from that part of him, keep him far away and safe. But Chris doesn’t want ninety percent of Dylan, he wants every piece….furry bits and all. Dylan has to learn to trust himself, completely, but he’s just begun to accept this part of himself, let alone trust it. Soon they discover, true mates faces everything (good and bad) side by side. They love each other, protect each other and trust each other through and through…and as it turns out, they are going to need to bind together to survive the paranormal forces trying to destroy them.
What's to like: As I said, this is an established couple story and it was lovely watching the last few restraints fall away and see them one hundred percent committed. They did sexy well in the first book and attempt to outdo the passion here. I found the haunting very well done. The adrenaline spikes when a gang of ruthless wolves enters the picture. Then Chris’ long-lost father stumbles into their drama. Definitely no shortage of action-packed scenes here! The pace is steady and the narrator, John Solo, does a phenomenal job separating the voices and keeping you on track. I was greatly impressed with the narration and look forward to more books by Solo. Seriously, go check him out!
What's to love: When all the snarling teeth and freaky ghosts drift away, the core of the story shines brightly. Love. Dylan and Chris love one another unconditionally. They crack jokes and have smartmouths (Chris!) but at the end of the supernatural day, they love each other deeply and completely. Fielding does pure love so so well. I loved watching them realize there is no expiration date on them. They are forever and their joy overflows from the pages, leaving my heart happy.
Beware of: Family drama that ends with forgiveness. A new character so bright he needs his own story. And some sweet sappy love with a heavy dose of hotness.
This book is for: Audiobook lovers will want to snatch up this paranormal goodness! And if you enjoyed Good Bones, I suggest you check out this extension of Dylan and Chris’ story…and if you haven’t, go back to the beginning, it’s worth it.
This is the sequel to “Good Bones”. The two books really must be read in order to fully appreciate the characters and their relationship arc.
This book takes place roughly one month after the end of Good Bones. Dylan and Chris are slowly, yet steadily, finding their way through new relationship territory. I love these two incredibly likeable guys! They have such an easy, flirty, loving way with each other – it’s just as fun and enjoyable to read about them doing mundane things like staining a floor, fixing dinner, or discussing the weather as it is to read their wolf transformation or lovemaking scenes. The dialogue and chemistry between them is indeed that terrific. The author definitely has a penchant for presenting well drawn characters.
While the guys do have an easy symbiosis going, we also see that they are both harboring insecurities about their future together. They each want to make a full commitment, and they both long to call Dylan’s house their home – they just need to figure out how to tell each other this! ....
Ahh, Dylan and Chris get their HEA, and I might be a little teary-eyed right now. God, these two are so great together! Loved the book, it was a great sequel to the first book; it did not disappoint after an amazing first book.
The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I felt like it was a little bit too long and the ghost plot kind of dragged on at some points... a few things could of been left out, which would've made the book, for me, that much better. But honestly that was a pretty minor dislike because the rest was so good!
Dylan and Chris are now one of my favourite M/M couples just because they fit so great together! We could already see it in the first book how they complement each other, and this second instalment just continued showing that. I'm still grinning whenever I think of these two just because they are so sweet and even when they argue it's so funny because they are but so protective of each other; I'm still laughing over the scene where Chris is batting Dylan after he nearly drowned himself because of how stubborn he was.
Now, hopefully Ery will get his HAE too in a different book because he's such a sweetheart and I want to see him happy!
I liked it! I was a bit hazy on the details from the previous book, like the stuff about Chris's family, but I was able to keep up. I'll read them both again when I have time, definitely!
Oh, man if I thought the first book felt like a soap opera, it's got nothing on this one.
All in the first 60 pages, we have Chris meeting up with his dad that abandoned him when he was a kid, a ghost haunting the farmhouse - a ghost that Dylan thinks is his dead ex-lover that he killed - and sex I believe three times. At least twice.
The only reason I even attempted this book was because I borrowed the entire series and it was easy and convenient (and didn't make my sleeping cat move) to continue reading.
Dylan and Chris are fantastic together and I loved getting more of Chris's POV in this story. There were troubles and difficulties to overcome here, a ghost in the house, the past that didn't want to stay buried, and a pack of werewolves that wasn't all nostalgic about their human side, but none of these problems were based on stupid misunderstandings between Dylan and Chris (which is a big pet peeve of mine), in fact their relationship was what made the overcoming part possible, and I loved that.
The only thing I didn't love all that much was .
I definitely recommend those two books for all the shifter lovers out there. Oh, and I totally agree with Ami - I'd love to see a sequel featuring Ery this time!
Just like its prequel, this book has been an interesting and enjoyable shifter story. It was nice to see how the protagonists consolidated their relationship, becoming closer emotionally and dealing together with the myriad of problematic issues.
I really, really enjoyed the first book (I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it)...and I enjoyed spending time with Chris, Dylan, and company again in this second book. I will happy read a third if one comes out.
