Book 7 in the ‘Shadows of the Void’ series has arrived. If you’re already addicted to the series then I reckon you’re definitely going to enjoy this one too! If you are yet to explore this sci-fi fantasy series, track down Book 1 ‘Generation’ and prepare to be thrilled.
Trapped is again based on planet Earth. Our intrepid gang are desperately trying to get a message to the Transgalactic Council and summon help to defend the planet against the invasion of the Shadows. Of course, the Shadows are not going to make that easy…
So, what do we have? We have our main characters trapped within Sayen’s parents’ house with Shadows patrolling all around. We have plenty of strategic planning as well as some pretty awesome fire-fights. We have a child Shadow for the first time. And we have a cat that I have a feeling is more important than it first appears (I may be wrong there!) Oh, and not to forget some pretty impressive technology/biotechnology.
In Trapped, the story of Sayen’s parents is revealed. Why do they have so much protection? Why have they always been so protective of Sayen? Who do they really work for? And why did they keep much of their lives secret from their own children?
One unexpected delight in this ‘episode’ is a whole chapter written in the voice of a Shadow. It’s great to get some insight into the events from a different viewpoint and I think this really helps make the characters of the Shadows more 3-dimensional.
In summary, once again Jenny Green has provided a vivid, engaging read that you can read cover to cover in one go. There’s loads of action here yet it’s not all fighting. We still get more pieces of the wider story with the truth about the characters’ lives and the galactic situation slowly being revealed. Definitely a must-read for fans of the series and other works by this author.
