Sarah J. Stone brings you the best of paranormal romance. Get ready for thrilling, hot, adventures with happily ever after endings and no cliffhangers.
This wasn't a bad start to a series, but it left me feeling like it was more of a "serial" type read. It didn't have much character depth or story development. Plus the insta-love was extreme. It would have been nice had the relationship between the hero and heroine felt genuine or realistic. Not sure if I will give book 2 a try or not.
I gave this book a shot despite being immediately turned off by the formatting (double-spaced). The grammar and spelling isn't great, but I still chose to continue reading because the story seemed intriguing. However, the author clearly has no idea what they've said before or how to construct a story. How do the characters know about things when seconds before they didn't? Or that they somehow managed to figure it out--which there is no reasoning for. That's just the start of my issues. The story of the girl is talked about in the worst way (semi-spoiler: abused) and she's just somehow okay with all the things happening, has her own mysteries which make zero sense, etc.
I would not recommend wasting your time with this book. The story itself could have been good, but the author needs more writing classes and really needs to work on their grammar before doing any more books. Which by the way, double spaced and 155pgs? No. In reality it's more like 60pgs.

I like how the content warning in the blurb doesn't mention the massive amounts of on page abuse and sexual assault the female MC suffers.
**TRIGGER WARNING! Sexual assault and abuse galore.**
I found this while browsing the Audible Escape package and thought I'd give it a try. The narration, blurb and cover made me think this would be a lighter PNR, but that wasn't the case. The book opens with the heroine trapped in a basement being sore abused by her step-father. She mentally connects with our hero, Aris, who turns out to be a dragon shifter suffering from some sort of illness.
He and his brothers-of-the-heart - five boys who banded together - are all suffering from the same thing, yet none of them know why or how to fix it. Aris connects with his biological mother in a dream and learns he's a half-breed dragon - half Black dragon and half Golden. According to dream mom, until he accepts both halves of himself and finds the missing third part of his soul (the heroine, natch), he - and all his "brothers" - will die.
Sophie has been a captive for 7 years, since she was 14 (so it says in the beginning of the book) or 15 (end of the book). She's been plotting her escape and trying to keep hope, but she's almost at the end of her rope. She's been dreaming of Aris (though she didn't know his name) for years, but didn't think he was real until they connect in a dream and he sees her as well. Now she's determined to hang on until he can rescue her.
I liked the premise of this story, but honestly it was a hot mess. Inconsistencies galore. At first she was raped, then not. She was in the basement for 5 years, then 7. She was severely traumatized by her abuse (understandably so!), then she was strong so it didn't matter. Things were glossed over or hinted at. Honestly, I could have let a lot of that go, but about halfway through we suddenly switched to the step-dad's POV and that was just too much. I ended up finishing it, because I was curious to see what would happen with Aris' illness, but I'm sorry I wasted my time.
At first the narrator bothered me, because she'd occasionally stumble or pause in strange ways/places, but after reading some of the reviews on GR, I'm convinced it was the poor writing in the book. Needless to say, I won't be continuing with the series.
Disclaimer: 1- Readers be aware, this book has massive triggers. 2- Aris is only 6% or the book, I appreciate a free book here and there, but I hate this bait and switch business First book from this author, it was recommended by KU based on previous reading, so I give it a try. I usually avoid this kind of triggers, I was totally blindsided by this book (not in a good way). I’m giving it 2 starts, based on the concept and the relationship between the dragons, I did not feel any connection with the h, I just felt pity for her. I wish the author would have taken the time to develop the guys background a little more, it felt rushed. As for the h, I’m not sure the author has a grasp on what this type of victims goes through, or how much time it takes to recover, regardless of the “instant love/mate” business.
This is a very short but and jam packed audiobook. This story follows Sophie and Aris. The first meeting was very out there. Aris is a dragon shifter who is sick and dying. He does not understand what is happening to him nor his brothers. All he knows is that he needs to save himself and his brothers because he knows that he is meant for more. Sophie on the other hand has been repeatedly abused since she was 15. Her mother is worthless. That sounds harsh but she is. The fact that she allows a man to come into their home and abused her daughter screams Child Protective Services to come over and take Sophie out of that house.
Their love story is very short and very instantaneous. I did not understand what Sarah J. Stone is talking about when it comes to Sophie being abused by her stepfather. Aris and Sophie's relationship takes place over a course of two months.
The story itself was really interesting. I loved all of the male dragons that live in the house. I loved Aris as an individual and as the king. Sophie is a really good character. Even though she has been through hell and back she is still strong and very independent. She knows what she wants and she's not afraid to go after it. Like any person who has been abused in life there are moments where she doubts herself but then she realizes that, "Hell yeah I'm awesome!"
I cannot wait to see what ends up happening with the guys. Also how the hell did Ron end up finding Sophie? That is one question that I need answered and Sarah did not answer that question in this book. Hopefully she ends up answering the question and later books however I doubt it.
Connor Brown did a very good job narrating the story. The only issue that I had was that the male dragons don't have a different voice. They all sounded the same and unless the name of the dragon was given prior or after a sentence I had no idea who was talking. Just a little bit of a subtle voice change would have made such a difference. I really did enjoy the fact that it felt as though he enjoyed what he was reading as well.
Aris and his halfling Dragon friends/brothers are all getting sick. As they become more I'll Ari s despair on how to save them even if he can't save himself. But, as usual there are other powers at force in the story and soon Aris will be led to his mate. Once this happens the story picks up speed and moves on thru info like a train wreck. And that fast splash of a ton of info as well as a lack of info about background on Aris' mate the queen bothered me. I wanted to know why certain things occurred and other things didnt. Some things I feel like will clear up with future books but the reasons behind Sophies abuse really never made sense. Why would her mom ignore what was happening but bring her stuff she needed. None of these questions or answers will change the underlying story of events but since it did irritate me I gave the book a 4 stars.
Now this is a definite twist to most Dragon shifter stories I've read previously. The idea that the male carries both male and female dragons until his true mate is found makes you sit up and take notice of the dynamics more so than even before. Looks like they save each other but Sofie is still so much mentally abused from her time as her stepfather's prisoner that she doesn't feel worthy. His doing, and the fact she is afraid of him finding her. Even when this happens, it still baffles me as to how he did it. The one thing that helped is her becoming a part of the family of males. She is determined that all will find what she and Aris did. A cliffhanger ending ending and that is all I will say. Worth the read! I voluntarily read this Advance Review Copy and find that Stone has a very creative imagination in storytelling.
I enjoyed reading this book but I felt like it could have been better. There's so much that isn't explained, and perhaps it will be in future books, but the reason half-breed dragons are killed is unclear and this is a key plot point.
I felt like the characters were under developed, they didn't feel complete or like I could meet them walking down the street. The whole thing just seemed rushed, I wish the book had been had as long again and used the extra length on world building and character building.
The narrator did a good job with the character voices and the delivery, it had a natural rhythum and was enjoyable to listen to.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
I have both versions audio and e-book. This is the first book I've read/listened of Sarah Stone's but it won't be the last. This was a great start to a series. I don't like spoilers so I won't tell more, like I started to. I must say it's nice to be able too go back and forth between versions. The narrator brings the story to life. The audio version was given to me at my request from the publisher or author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Action-packed, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Great world building, Happily Ever After, Original, Page-turner, Romantic, Steamy, Twisted, Unpredictable, Wonderful characters.
This story will move you. The characters are damaged and cast away, but find strength in each other. There are twists in the story and some heartbreaking back stories that will make you pull for them even more. I loved that this whole storyline is beginning a series of people who find strength in themselves to help the others around them pull their best selves out too. Nicely done!
Gave this book a 4 as it shows real promise of bring a top notch storyline. I like the edgy sense of family and need shown in the relationships of the guys. It's a bit roughly edited though and occasionally I had to reach for the manning off misplaced/misspelled words. But the organic way the relationships between the mates is developing gives me hope this will be a stellar read.
I found the way this was written somewhat stiff and in a way quite naive as though this was by a new author who hasn't quite mastered their craft. It is quite simplistic without a lot of substance to it, quite disappointing. The bonus book included was even worse that was boring from beginning to end and made you wonder what the point to it was. Not a particularly enjoyable read.
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I thought this was a cute short story. There was so much that could be done with this story and so much that was left unanswered. However, I guess that is why this is a series. I may have to check out additional books to see how this story continues. Very different turn on a dragon shifter story and romance. The author did a good job of getting the story across and the narrator did a good job with the characters.
Only 14% of this book is....well, this book. The rest is a witch story box set and previews. That left very little room for world building and none for character development. The premise was interesting enough, but without the other two components it wasn't engaging enough to guarantee that I'll read the next story. Sadly, the author didn't allow us the opportunity through story telling to bond with any of the characters more than superficially.
I read 15% of this book, and then it abruptly ended! Evidently the remaining 85% of the book consisted of two "previews" of other books the author is trying to promote. This is the second time I've experienced this. Why do authors do this? It's ridiculous! I don't want to waste my time reading previews or having to read four different 15% books to get a complete story. I'd rather just stay away from authors that play this silly game.
This story was quite short. Only 20% but there are free books added in. I enjoyed the story and the idea behind it. I would've liked a little more history about the characters and a little more depth. I was looking forward to the 2nd book but it's short once again. If your looking for a light holiday read, this is the book for you.
This was very action packed and fun story to read. I loved the characters... and hello dragons.. dragons are wonderful. There is adventure and action.. love and romance.. sexyness and yum to many scenes ;) I really enjoyed it and I'm glad i got to review it
An easy read and interesting in differences of full-blood and halflings.
Aris has found four others like himself. He had taken care of them and tried to figure out what the sickness meant. He finds Sophie, who is his mate and who seems to help all the halflings.
Sarah J. Stone writes a great series of hot, sexy, steamy love story about finding your true mate. This was the first book I read that she had written & I can't wait to read more of her books.
I liked this story, the dual Dragon idea is interesting. Also, how Sophie was saved was entertaining. However, I think the story could have been more in depth about aris and sophie's relationship.
Aris had been getting sicker and nobody knew why. Until his vision. Sophia had been locked away for eight years. She thought what she was seeing was just a safe place. Enjoyed the story and looking forward to the next book.
I really liked the overall concept with the dragons and their mysterious illness it was something I never read before. However I found it difficult to get into the story and connect with the characters.
Yeah you left the abuser there to one find another victim or to cause further pain. I know it was a trend to have all of the protagonist as rape/ abuse victims..but this is OTT. Nothing 5 star about making a buck of off rape victims..
I enjoyed reading this book, it has a great storyline. Can't wait to read more from this author. I received a FREE ARC copy to read volunteerly for an honest review.
Could have been much better but not something I would choose again. Characters needed to be explained much more, story filled out, and an ending worth reading. I was disappointed.
Well written and characters are really great. This is the story of Aris and Sophie and all his brothers. Enjoy this standalone no cliffhangers first book of this series
