The Life of Juicy Brown: Bratty Hotel maid mom of 5, beefs w/ her baby daddy’s new trailer park girl or her flamboyantly gay first one. She’s been hyper sexual since she was 12 and nonchalant about pregnancies because her other family raises them, so don’t have time to supervise her bad decisions. An unfortunate “fun” face is we learn Medicaid will cover abortions but only a few per person. This is like a list of ratchet yet semi-basic stuff rather than a story. She’s a b!tch and basically teaches her kids to hate gay dudes when she’s not partying.

Nothing bothers this girl. We don’t hear anything bad from her childhood but when she’s older she’s nonchalant about dead or jailed extended relatives or robberies around her kids as long as she has pastries and weed and players. She makes her son eat a hooker’s 🐱 as a tween and make him a gangster. So ridiculous, she can’t even do the dirty work herself. She makes fun of him for not taking in 50k a day. She calls her kids ugly and dumb and how they can never amount to anything because she admits she wants them to stay with/like her. Her daughter is dying of Lupus but hardly comes up amid partying.

There’s rumors Juicy is sleeping w/ her son and it wouldn’t surprise me, the sexual way she describes and parties w/ all her li’l ones. The only plot is how in the background the Welfare office is coming after her for fraud. She could GAF. This girl should be named Cognitive Dissonance w/ all she blames other people for and how much she rags on her kids she say ruined her life when I’m sure she’d be nothing even if she never had any.

Story 2: Elementary teaches turned crackhead. Precious is the daughter who watches her get beaten, raped, and murdered—WTF would you describe that as “busting a nut”? Of course that was written by a man, and the later “sexy” mention of a mouth “engulfing nipples.” That almost made me stop reading, though when she grows up w/ her prissy auntie yet boosts from malls keeps me. Man, urban lit is too heavy on backstory like it’s an essay rather than stories with scenes—besides sex. So dumb so many years later she happens to overhear the men who tortured her mother and that’s what they’re discussing. I can’t stay much longer than that, she disregards her support system like they don’t exist. It’s repetitive. Her revenge plot is good but too swift.

Story 3: Another LaJill Hunt piece about Valentine’s Day. Nothing grabs me though it’s more likable but twice as long as other stories.

If you ain't never been to the ghetto

Welcome to the world of Deidra "Juicy" Brown, a welfare recipient from North Philly, who had no bones about how she did it. At 30, Juicy has teenagers who she smokes with, parties with and competes with for the hottest guy in the strip clubs. Although her parenting is less than desirable, Juicy does the best she knows to teach her kids the facts of living a bon-a-fide hood life. Will Juicy drive `em crazy or does she finally tone it down?

KaShamba Williams created an unforgettable character that you love to hate and pray someday somehow will change. Though unfortunate, readers will find that there maybe a Juicy around their way.

Introducing Precious Paine from B-more, she's weighed down by her mom's tragic life. Growing up, Precious was forced to see things deemed inappropriate for young children triggering a harden heart in the process. Precious has mastered a hustle and has made it her business to get what she could, how she wanted, without explaining anything to anyone. Is Precious' hardcore exterior being softened by real love pangs?

Thomas Long, one of the original novelists in Around the Way Girls, has a knack for using incessant female protagonists.

Let's join Lyric Crenshaw and Alicia Woods in New York. Lyric is a hard knock diva whose firsthand accounts taught her that love is for suckers and it's about getting out the winner. Alicia, her sappy co-worker, is all gushy when it comes to her love, Omar. But as the two friends interact more on a daily basis, Lyric's mind begins to believe that maybe love is worth a chance and Alicia becomes cynical, buying into all men being dogs. Can they both be right?

As always La Jill Hunt, another of the original authors and self-appointed dramatists, invites readers to walk on the softer side of the hood with a look at love.

Even though I'm not a real fan of short stories, I really enjoyed the compilation, especially KaShamba's misguided mother and La Jill's twisted love. Again, like the original one, I hate this cover and Urban Books needs to tighten up on their editing.

this was a nice collection of three stories. One of the stories is about a woman who started having kids at an early age. It is a wild story, because her and her kids are like their own soap opera. It is pretty good. There is a story of a beautiful young lady who had addicts for parents. She grows up rough and ends up being a professional shoplifter. She finally meets someone who shows her that she can be happy. She changes her life around and everything ends up good. There are a lot of deep moments before things get better. One of my favorite stories. The last story in the book is about a girl who thinks she knows all about how to hurt before getting hurt. When she meets someone who sees her for who she really is she has to realize she didn't know it all. A very twisted tale of a lot of confusion.

The Life of Juicy Brown ➖️⭐️👎🏾
Diamond N Da Rough ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Who's Got Game? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½

My thoughts: 📱9% 1:08:44 The Life of Juicy Brown: Elgin - This is poorly written, and it's just a whole bunch of mess. It's more like an outline for a sitcom than an actual storyline.
📱24% The Life of Juicy Brown: A Dose of Reality - I don't remember these awful names or horrific activities, but I'm getting déjà vu. If it ends the way I'm suspecting it does, then I've definitely read this 8+ years ago. Whether I have or haven't, this will be the last book I read with this type of vibe. I don't like it.
🍹🟫 The Life of Juicy Brown - This was the worst story I've heard in a long time. The sex life of these characters is just sickening. The salad at Olive Garden isn't Caesar; that is not how Lupus works, and the names, the horrible names. I'm glad it's over. This is the first time a story has earned a negative star. The ending was familiar; I could just slap myself.
📱45% Diamond N Da Rough Ch. 5 - I have read this book before. I don't remember the characters or details, just a vague gist of various parts of the storyline.
💎 Diamond N Da Rough - So, this was similar to a story I read but went in a completely different direction, I remember that story had an aunt, not a grandmother, and started right away, while this started with the mom's story and a young child. It had a rough start, but it wasn't bad.
🏀 Who's Got Game? - This was the highlight of the book. I immediately recognized it I remembered everything but the big reveal. Not surprising since La Jill Hunt is what attracted me to this series.

I read this book before! SMH. I need to keep my TBR updated! 😫 I'm pretty upset these books stayed on my TBR for years and I ended up re-reading them but the last one was worth a reread. In general, these stories are too ratchet for my liking. Juicy Brown was way out there! All of these stories had continuity issues, especially with dates.

Recommend to others: 🤷🏾‍♀️ The Hunt story was good the others were traumatizing.

This book is worth reading just for the Juicy Brown story. The other two were ok. Entertaining but not as good as Juicy Brown's story. The second one was also good just not as good as Juicy Brown. I thought Alicia in the 3rd story was so stupid. I just couldn't with her.

The only reason this gets 3 stars is bc the first story was funny and interesting. If i based it on the other two short stories i would have given it 1 star.

The begining of the book is starting off good. I dont like the book talking in third person. I would rather the book writen like the character is the one actualy talking, it would make more sense to me that way. Some places in the book it refers to the past of Cream which is fine but i think it should be in a different chapter. Putting both present and past on the same page in the same chapter gets confusing sometimes. Otherwise the Book is starting off good.

I can't remember the 1st book in this series so besides the fact that I know I liked it (enough to keep reading anyway) I can't say much. I did just read 3, 4, and 5 in the past few weeks and they were all so-so. This was much better than 3, 4, and 5 combined. KaShamba Williams, Thomas Long, and La Jill Hunt definitely made me want to keep reading each of the three stories.

This book is amazing. So far it is the only book that I've read in the ATWG series and it was so good that I've read each story at least 3 or more times, and believe me, I definitely will be reading them again. So much love for the brilliant authors who contributed to the making of this masterpiece.

The Kishamba Williams story was crazy. I remember her being a staple author that I could count on in Urban fiction...
The other two were pretty good.
