The Department of Correction

Rate this book
Here is a gritty, straight-out-of-the-headlines thriller that takes readers into the dark heart of today's justice system.Grisly cases of murder, kidnapping, and rape are ravaging the Big Apple and the NYPD assumes the city's killing season has begun. But Todd Paige, a newspaper reporter who likes to follow his own rules, thinks otherwise. Lieutenant Sarah VanAllen, an ambitious cop, has dropped him a tip about a strange kidnapping, and now Paige finds himself digging into a story about an old man who's suing the state hospital for the criminally insane where he was incarcerated for years. When the man is savagely beaten, the reporter knows he's hit paydirt. Paige, who has no idea VanAllen is sleeping with his boss, sets out to uncover the truth. But none of them is prepared for the twisted and shocking tale of corruption and abuse they uncover -- and the very angry, very lethal gang of killers.

Posing some tough questions about the concept of justice, The Department of Correction is an irresistible suspense novel, filled with enough surprises and hard-edged action to keep readers riveted until the final page is turned.
