Out of the Frying Pan
Brodie Sinclaire, the youngest and wildest of the Sinclaire brothers, has just been given an ultimatum. Settle down and run the hunting lodge his brothers have built, or find a new job - on another ranch. His first order of business is to find a cook who will last more than a week. He gets more than he bargained for when the cook he hires turns out to be his sister-in-law’s best friend, fiery redhead and Cordon Bleu trained chef, Jamey O’Neill.

And Into the Fire
In the span of a week Jamey O’Neill has lost everything. Her boyfriend, her restaurant, and her career - thanks to a devastating health diagnosis. Broke, and desperate to make a fresh start, she agrees to help the Sinclaires get their hunting lodge off the ground. The last thing she needs is a deliciously handsome cowboy getting under her skin and bossing her in the kitchen.

Can They Handle the Heat?
They can’t deny their chemistry is explosive, and Brodie sets out to prove himself to the feisty chef. But can they handle the heat when Brodie is forced to face his past and Jamey wrestles with her future?

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this one! Brodie and Jamey had some amazing chemistry and some hilarious clashes. I loved how Brodie kept telling her no need to bring the Irish out. Cracked me up every time! Great book, with great characters, and even great secondary characters. I loved how sweet Brodie could be. I loved Jamey's drive in the kitchen and out. It was a great book!

Brodie Sinclaire & Jamey O'Neill.

Have to say I loved this couple! They flirted, sparked, fought, laughed, loved and cried with all they had. There was no holding back with these two. As they fought - it seemed to me that the sharpened each other and helped to polish each other up to be better people on their own and together they were an unstoppable force.

Their sense of humor had me rolling on the floor more times than I can count! One of my fave lines: "Are you a sandwich short of picnic you gobslice?" - need to have a conversation where I can use this one - it's a Moral Imperative!

Yes, they each had their secrets and obstacles to overcome - but always they were drawn back together like magnets. Opposites attract and lit up that whole prairie around the Flint Hills!

Definitely visiting Prairie again, very soon I hope!

I’m going to do this kind of backwards, because I adored the ending. But, yikes, Jamey and Brodie are difficult characters to like. They’re both keeping really big secrets that fill them with shame. And that’s where I kind of lost the plot. Neither secret was particularly shameful. Certainly not worth all the angst that’s created in the story over them. I can almost understand Brodie’s situation. He’s spent a lot of years with his issue undiagnosed and spent most of those same years being ridiculed for it. But I’m still baffled by how Jamey’s medical condition should result in her being blackballed from her profession. When this book was published, Celiac disease and other problems with wheat gluten were fairly widely recognized diagnoses. Jamey’s behavior about this makes the story feel a lot more dated than it really is.

This romance is about two hard-headed people who have to put their pride aside and learn to work together. Brodie and Jamey are like vinegar and baking soda - highly combustible every instant they're together! Brodie is a swaggering cowboy, hot as sin, and knows his way around a woman's body even as he hides a very personal secret. Jamey is feisty firecracker, a cowboy-busting tough girl with her own career-threatening secret.

Every time these two come together, the sparks fly fast and furious even though they annoy the living daylights out of each other. It doesn't take long before they realize that if they don't start to work together they'll both lose everything, but their secrets are so huge that they continue to get in way of their partnership.

Brodie and Jamey both have to deal with their own insecurities and past hurts while learning to trust each other and and trust that they don't always have to be alone. I loved seeing Blake and Maddie again in this book, and it was great to get to know more about the other secondary characters. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book through Hidden Gems.

I loved getting to know Brodie Sinclaire and Jamey O'Neill. Talk about 2 people clashing from the get go these 2 do. Brodie hides a secret by being brash and Jamey is gluten intolerant so that adds to her brash personality. She's learnt to be because of family. Sounds like a recipe for disaster hmm. But underneath their outward personality hides 2 caring people who have been hurt. They have learnt to hide it so this now gives us a receipe for a good book. It sure is. Jamey is a cook who is trying to save a Sinclaire business. These 2 will keep the pages turning just to see what is happening next especially after Brodie's secret is revealed to Jamey. Its an awesome story and you will find yourself turning the pages til the end just to see what these 2 are up to til the end. Tessa is an awesome writer and storyteller. J

I received a copy from Hidden Gems; this is my honest review.
-I loved the way Brodie and Jamey kept thinking about THE kiss at the wedding while away from each other.
-I loved the sex scenes;they are pretty good. Jamey is more of a taker but Brodie, most of the time, wouldn't let her do anything anyways.
-I couldn't connect with Jamey. She was painted as very much self-centered in every way: in the sex scenes, in partnerships, in friendship too.
-I'm still left with unanswered questions from the first book, but at least the author, as previously, introduces us to the next couple.
-The editing needs another pass; here are a few examples: wrong word (she wasn't work the risk), switch in the name (Jamie/Jamey), switch between preposition and adverb and missing words (these hands to pretty for).

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. It is a 3.5* romance. This book takes place just as the prior book ended, so I read the first book in the series before taking on this one. Like many authors tell you they are standalone novels in their own right, but since I had the first book, I decided to read it first.
I found this story good but at times troublesome, since the main characters were annoying because they were hiding things from not only each other but other characters. I think it is a testament to the author's writing that I continued and wanted to see how it ended even though the main characters were difficult to like. Don't get me wrong, I like having challenges for the characters to overcome and interesting story lines, but these characters caused a lot of their own drama by keeping secrets and creating their own problems.

The book was silly. Secrets people already knew or guessed and yet they are hiding. I don't know. Like teenagers in heat and giggling in small cliques. Big egos. Little minds. The book would have been so much better if the characters acted their age and discussed their problems with family and close friends.

Other than the above, the book was well written and edited.

Brodie and Jamey are just like bulls, locking horns to display dominance or play through sparring. Their verbal wrangling quickly becomes physical and neither one can deny their mutual passion for long. Secrets, affections, and complications all combine to create a whirlwind of temper and ardor and only heaven knows what will be left standing at the end. Can they have the business and each other or will pride burn it all to ashes?

I love Brodie. From the start we knew there was something behind all his bluster and swagger. What we learn here just about breaks my heart. The poor man struggles more than anyone should and years and years of browbeating and heavy handedness from Jake Sinclair have crushed his confidence. His intelligence, tenderness, care, and concern are evident in everything he does. But his devil may care attitude overshadows all that and is causing distrust and disappointment everywhere he turns. His pride and insecurities are leading him to failure if he can't find a way to get help.

Help comes in the form of the redhead spitfire, Jamey. In a mess of her own making she's accepted a job at the Sinclair's lodge with her tail tucked firmly between her legs. Unwilling to confide her medical and business issues, she's bottled up a lot of her vulnerability and her fragile ego can't take many more hits. She's determined to make the lodge's kitchen a success and no stubborn, cocky, dead sexy cowboy is going to change that. If only he'd stop smoldering in her direction, and maybe keep his lips to himself too...

There's a ton of heat and chemistry between these two. They have a lot going for their partnership when they're willing to lay aside their pride and actually work as a team. I loved when they got along and Jamey allowed Brodie to really be himself. He made himself vulnerable to her over and over again. I wish that she had done that for him more than just during her medical confession. Brodie deserved so much more honesty, openness, tenderness. He gave and gave and gave and despite their arguments he bore the brunt of her temper far more often than I was comfortable with.

Brodie both breaks my heart and fills it. I love his heart, vulnerability, cockiness, humility, and struggle. His admission about his struggles with numbers and reading was heart-breakingly honest. I seriously teared up. To feel demeaned all his life so that he can't even be honest with his brothers, that Blake just saw the outward reaction to his struggles and didn't try to find out more...I ached for him. After confiding in Jamey I was okay with her reaction at the outset. But then when she made it a point to throw it at him during every argument? No respect there. I'm absolutely okay with her not coddling him in his weakness and to encourage him to improve is a mark of a true partner. But I didn't respect the way dyslexia is thrown in his face. To bring it up because it's relevant is totally fine, but the way she did it came across as degrading.

Jamey is fiery and a good match for Brodie's passion but her temper really is something awful. I don't think she did enough to make up for it. And I'm not including the chemical burn thing in any kind of "restitution". That would be an awful thing to wish on another person just in the name of earning forgiveness. Her struggles were absolutely real and valid, her points were spot on too. I just think that she let her temper get out of hand on too many occasions and Brodie's love and sense of guilt allowed that to be okay and I don't agree with that.

Overall I found the story engaging, fun to read, passionate in so many ways, and a really great read. Brodie was the star for me and while I don't agree with Jamey's actions most of the time I do feel that she is an excellent match for Brodie's character. They are a fun couple that enjoy arguing just as much as they do making up. I'm really looking forward to reading Ben's story in Prairie Desire next.

I thought this was a good read. I haven't read the other stories in this series, so it was a little confusing in the beginning. It is a stand alone, but I think you need to get through the first few chapters when there are a lot of names thrown at you that you aren't familiar with. The writing flowed well, and the characters were developed nicely. I thought that Brodie and Jamey had good chemistry, it just came out in arguments most of the time. They both had their own baggage that they brought to the relationship. I didn't like Jamey at first. It took quite a while for me to warm up to her. She is very stubborn, and kept secrets from family and friends. Brodie had his own secrets. I felt like Jamey went about her proposition the wrong way. I don't care what anyone says, a partnership is 50-50. I was glad that Brodie finally owned up to his problems, but it was a hard lesson learned. It had a good ending, but I would have loved a glimpse into their future. I would like to find out what happens with Jamey's brothers as well.

Jamey has made a really big mistake professionally by not having a contract with her partner/boyfriend. Now with an unexpected diagnosis of celiac disease, she can't tolerate any form of gluten and loses everything she worked so hard for.

Brodie has been put in charge of the new hunting lodge, but he's lost quite a few chefs and his brother's at his wits end. An ultimatum is issued and the new Chef is on the way.

A phone call from Maddie changes everything for Jamey. Now she has a job but when she hears she's going to be working and living with Brodie she's not so sure anymore. Can she work with Brody without giving in to her feelings for him?

Oh what a tangled web. Jamey hasn't told anyone about her illness, and is doing a gluten free kitchen. A very successful one at that, and a little help from Dottie with biscuits.

Then there's Brodie who has the biggest secret of all. The problem is his secret could ruin the business.

I couldn't stop reading, these two are hysterical together. Oh and the heat between them is kindle melting. Moving on to the next book, I love the progression.

Drama and passion continue in the Flint Hills. The saga is still addictive and intriguing.

The youngest Sinclaire, Brodie and Jamey, Maddie Sinclaire's best friend and chef from Chicago get real hot in the kitchen at the new Sinclaire Lodge. It is a 6-week arrangement to get the Lodge on its feet with Brodie at the helm and Jamey in the kitchen.

I just love the devilishly wild Brodie with the ever Irish hot-head Jamey. He oozes charm and sex appeal that Jamey has difficulty resisting. It is so much fun watching them together. The fact that they each have such a big secret that makes your heart ache, adds to the tension and suspense of what will happen next.

All the regular characters of Prairie are here in this book continuing to add their few cents worth as well as Jamey's brothers from Boston. They are fabulous and I enjoy all their personalities!

This is the second book in the Sinclaire brothers series and I enjoyed this story better than the first one. This is Brodie and Jamey’s story.

Brodie is the youngest Sinclaire brother and has his lived his life being the “stupid one”. His brothers don’t think he can commit to anything, take anything serious or be responsible. He has a secret no one knows about and now he something to prove by running the family’s new hunting lodge.

Jamey has been burned by her ex. Her whole career as a Chef and her future gone because he used her. Now she is taking a temporary job at the new Hunting Lodge the Sinclaire’s have opened.

Brodie and Jamey have amazing chemistry which started at Blake and Maddie’s wedding. These characters were easy to like and they made you route for them. There were some tender moments, great sexy time and some good twists thrown in. Overall a good story. This can be read as a standalone. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Jamey has lost everything, her money, her business because of her boyfriend and her confidence because of her celiac condition.
Brodie has always been a mess. He is hardworking and he is good following directions but when he has to do something on his own he is unable to achieve it. Everybody thinks he is lazy and immature.
I found myself laughing a lot of times but also feeling sad mostly for Brodie. I can feel his impotence to show everybody he is not a lazy kid but a man with a problem. It is very easy to judge someone without trying to guess what there is behind that behavior.
I did like the silly names the author uses like Captain McCharmypants, Jizzle McShinglepants, McSnarkypants, etc.
I really like this series and can’t wait to read the next one.

Solid 4.5 star
I just loved how the end of book one showed us the beginning of book 2 without knowing it at the time, Brodie appears to stuff up all the time and is given one final chance to get it together or he has to walk away. Jamey's life had been going down the drain while things were coming together for her best friend Maddie and Brodies brother Blake and now she has to face the life she knew is over. Both Brodie and Jamey are given the chance to get their life together unfortunately for Jamey and Brodie it means working together and making it work as much as they lust after/hate each other and facing their individual secrets that are stoping either of them from really living life. There is plenty of sexual tension, cringe worthy and get me a tissue moment to make this such a great read you will be ordering the next book in the series straight away!

Jamey and Brodie were such fun characters. They laughed, teased and had amazing chemistry. Their characters were well developed and I really enjoyed Jamey's sassiness and Brodie's playfulness. I giggled and laughed out loud so many times while reading this book, I especially enjoyed the banter between Jamey and Brodie and Jamey's witty names and sayings. The issues of celiac disease and dyslexia that were a focus in this story were educational and mentioned in the author's Acknowledgements. One of my favorite lines from the book was a thought by Brodie, "He'd spend the rest of his life showing her how much he loved, respected, and valued her." Oh, to have a man do all those things for a woman. I really like this series and the different characters. This was a hard book to put down!

I am fairly new to this author, and new to this series and when the opportunity came to read this one, I did not hesitate.
This story centers around Brodie Sinclaire and Jamey O’Neill.
Brodie is the youngest Sinclaire , unsettled and to buckle him up, his family has assigned him to run the family lodge.
Jamey had it all and lost it. When a chef is needed at the lodge , she is hired and that’s when things get interesting.
The author gives us an entertaining story with characters that are complex.
The book is heartbreaking, but also heartwarming, Obstacles have to be overcome, and hearts have to be opened . Will these two find their inner peace and love or will they miss their chance at both?
I was gifted this copy by Hidden Gems. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Prairie Passion is a steamy, feisty, at times funny read with an enemies to lovers thing going on. Brodie and Jamey have some super intense chemistry from the beginning, even when they can't seem to stand each other. This is a really well developed story and touches on a lot of issues that could (and in some cases do) ruin everything for this couple. What do you get when you put two hard headed, strong willed characters together? Sparks fly, feels are intense, and the heat ignites pages and panties alike. This is a great book that you will not want to put down until the last page. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series. (Reader review copy)

This is romantic, steamy, sweet and amusing. Brodie is charming, sweet, cocky and romantic. Jamey is proud, stubborn, vulnerable and sassy. Both have a temper, both are hiding a secret. Teaming up to save his butt, Jamey and Brodie fight like cats and dogs, which takes their sizzling attraction up a few notches and causes all sorts of drama. Jamey is a tough cookie who turns to mush every time Brodie, the closet romantic, touches her. It is an intriguing and interesting storyline with an amazing cast of characters.

Loved this book, it was so hard to put down. It was a little more erotic than her last book, but all in all it was still very good. I really liked that this series can be read as a an alone book or as a series, even thou I think it would be better to read the first one first. She brings out the characters so much. I love that she brings in real life issues that we have in life and how we can work around it, to still find a wonderful life. Love this book, brings out so many emotions. I can't wait to read the next one. I received arc copy for my honest review.

This cowboy series just keeps getting better. Real people with real problems. So easy to relate to as we peel their layers back. Jamie, a chef who has celiac disease which is a real problem facing so many today. After losing her partner, boyfriend and business she has no choice but to take a temporary job as a chef on the Sinclair ranch. Love the banter back and forth between cowboy Brodie Sinclair and Chef Jamie. A sweet love story. I received an advance copy and voluntarily chose to review this book.

This is yet another great cowboy romance from Tessa Layne, this time focused on the youngest Sinclaire brother Brodie and chef Jamey. She has her work cut out for her pealing back the layers of Brodie’s character, and like with peaking onions, there are sometimes tears... but that is because she also has issues to overcome. The ranch in Prairie may be just the place for her to heal and revitalise her life, with a little cowboy assistance.

I definitely recommend this book, and look forward to reading more!

I received an ARC copy of this book and I voluntarily chose to review it. I loved it. The story line was great and the characters were fantastic. No wimpy female character here Jamey wasn't afraid to speak her mind. I do love flawed characters it makes them more real and Brodie has his problems but he is loveable. I don't do spoilers so you need to get the book to find out about Brodie. This one is worth your time and effort. I will encourage everyone to get this book. I read it in just a few hours.

Brodie and Jamey have got to be two of the most stubborn people around. Both had "issues" that they refused to talk about or ask help with. I will admit that Brodie's "story" had me tearing up on several occasions. His "issue" is all too real and all too overlooked and that's sad. I loved Brodie and Jamey as a couple. They worked well together. I definitely need to go back and read Maddie and Blake's story.

Yes! It was everything I expected. After being introduced to Brodie in the first book of the series I knew I would love him in his own story. He is my favorite Sinclaire brother. He was a little stubborn but it came from embarrassment and low self worth. I was very protective him even more because he was so unsure of himself. Which was why I wasn’t pleased with Blake or Jamey. I think after I read the rest of the books he’s still going to be my favorite. I love your books Tessa. Until next time y’all happy reading.

Why yes I may indeed be binge reading these books.
Okay, so yet again this author has given me all the feels.
I am trying to think if I have ever read a book where the leading man has dyslexia, if I have its been rare, and I can't remember, and it makes me so happy to see this issue acknowledged.
Yes I have seen it, that child who becomes the class clown and feels like they are stupid because reading doesn't come easy to them. I thank the author for writing Brodie's character.
The story itself was good too.

I just don’t know.
It all felt to immature how they dealt with their issues.
Secrets are never good.
Brodie to arrogant, shallow and used sex answer to everything.
He should have been a bit more humble instead of a player.
I have friend and colleague who are dyslexic but they learned everything by watching others instead of fucking around.
And celiac .......my god .......why the big deal......
Again to childish and immature, why not at least tell your family is beyond me.

I can understand the turmoil of Jamey (I have a sister-in-law with Celiac). We also have dairy concerns in our family, so big family dinners can be somewhat trying. Imagine that with being a chef in a restaurant where you can’t test the food to ensure you have the correct amount of spice (measuring is not a thing, it’s by taste). Add in that many foods (my mom’s gravy for one) has flour in it for thickening. I know there are other options, but sometimes it’s the flour that makes the difference. It was also pointed out that she didn’t coat things in flour for frying, another change that had to be made to accommodate the gluten restriction. I’ve read other reviews where people “don’t understand why she made a big deal and why restaurants made a big deal of it”, but with reading what she went through with testing recipes, baking gluten free is not as simple as swapping out the flour for a gluten free flour, it’s a whole thing and a restaurant doesn’t have time or money to waste on experiments. Some people learn to live without certain foods that they can’t eat.
I have a child with a slight learning disability, and trying to get the help needed, even in 2024, is hard. Imagine living in a rural place where “boys will be boys” and are constantly running around and helping on the farm. Farm boys aren’t expected to become scholars, they’re expected to run the farm. Add in a father who constantly berates him for “being stupid”, and you wouldn’t expect him to ask for or seek the help he needs. Throw in the typical “mean girls” attitude, and the shame sits with him because he’s been led to believe that he isn’t worth anything other than another dumb farmer.
Brodie and Jamey were perfect for each other, although sometimes, it drove me crazy the way Jamey kept pushing Brodie away. Brodie was patient with Jamey (for the most part) through all her Irish that she threw at him. It was nice to see her finally calm down and let him into her heart. I think a lot of their argument about the lodge and the business could have been avoided if she had been open and honest with her; Brodie shouldn’t have had to hear about her failed partnership through her brother. A good relationship is borne from trust and honesty, which they mostly have. They both also have a good dose of pride, which is what gets in their way.
