Simply Superb. This was such an easy and enjoyable book to read, and so well written. Mick Bose has certainly caught my attention with this very worthy Action Thriller. Dan Roy is a great character that has the skills and background from a Special Forces background, and he’s certainly a character that I would like to read more of in the future. Dan Roy managed to get away from Intercept, the CIA and his previous life in the Delta Forces. As far as he was concerned he was officially retired from that life. So it was quite a surprise when his former boss and handler Major John Guptill turned up asking for Dan’s help. Intelligence was pointing towards a possible attack somewhere in Europe. After Dan is almost killed in London, he agrees to the mission, and travels to Afghanistan. Unfortunately it doesn’t take long for him to realise that something in not quite right. Now someone is also trying to frame him, and get him and his boss out of the way. Then he comes across the Major’s daughter Chloe Guptill, and she’s also being targeted. Now they will both need to find out what’s going on, and try to stay alive at the same time. If you enjoy thrillers that are full of suspense, action and a very clever plot, then you will certainly enjoy this book.

5/2012, Afghanistan Jalalabad Airbase FOB Fenty. Major John “Jonty” Guptill (SFOD-D Squadron A, Afghanistan), & Lieutenant Colonel Jim “Fighter” McBride (JSOC, Ft. Bragg, NC.), were going to have a briefing with Dan Roy (Intercept, retired US Army Ranger, Delta Force, Iraq, Afghanistan).
Mr. Burns (Intercept) was also in attendance.
Dan was accused of holding classified military intelligence materiel.
He exited the DC-10 at the Royal Air Force base in Brize Norton.
Panjwayi (Helmand, Afghanistan). Commander Fatullah Zalaf (former Taliban leader) greeted Mr. Robert Cranmer.

Robert informed Fatullah they never received the vaccines that were aboard the Living Aid truck
Chelsea, England. Dan went to Paradise Walk #32 where Major Guptill lived.
His body was on the bedroom floor.
Later Chloe Guptill (daughter, London Herald journalist) was getting shot at.
Dan managed to get her to safety.
Chloe went to see Simon Renwick (CIA).
Dan had found Simon, he had been shot twice & he might not make it.
The forklift operator was slowly lowering the container # PV 346756 that had arrived from Karachi.
The forklift transporter was fast approaching it.
Will Dan get there in time?
Chloe was making sure Simon got to Chelsea & Westminster Hospital’s Accident & ER.

The Royal Military Police were guarding his room.
As Dan watched on as Robert Cranmer (CIA, aka Michael Burns, aka Felix, assassin), & Yevgeny Lutyenov (Robert’s associate, Russian Spetznaz) get in the truck.
What a surprise they are going to have!

Warning: This book is for adults only & contains extreme violent or graphic adult content or profanity &/or sexually explicit scenarios. It may be offensive to some readers.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written global conspiracy thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great global conspiracy thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued? There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

This is the first book in the series.

The story of a war-weary black ops soldier who leaves that life behind in an effort to repair his soul. Unfortunately, the world is a dangerous place with plenty of people who'd love nothing better than to watch the world burn.

Mr. Bose created a character in Dan Roy who has spent his entire adult life in combat, first with the army, then later as part of the top secret black ops group named Intercept. That life demanded a total commitment that has taken a heavy toll on his mind, body, and soul. The character was well written and his background promises that when the action comes, he won't hesitate to use all the training and skills he's learned to eliminate the threat.

I expected lots of action from reading the blurb and it does deliver in that aspect. I'm always on the fence about love interests in this type of story. If it's done well it can add to the dynamic of the story but sadly it's usually not done well. While I wouldn't characterize the female characters in this tale as love interests, each does drive the storyline forward. Interestingly enough I was much more interested in the first female character we are introduced to even though her appearance is brief.

I felt like various interactions between Dan and the main female character were odd at times, almost forced because it fit what readers might expect but the short history and the circumstances of their time together didn't fit with their actions at times.

The action scenes were well written and kept me turning the pages. The reader is kept guessing who's behind the attacks and when all is revealed it's not a total shock but Mr. Bose does an excellent job of keeping us guessing.

I thought this was a good start to the series. I did find a few typos but honestly, they were trivial and had no real impact on my feelings about the book. It remains to be seen how Dan Roy will grow through the series and how he is drawn into future situations. Will he be forced back into service with his old unit or will he go along the lines of Lee Child's Jack Reacher and confront evil as he encounters it. I cannot say but with four books already out in the series, you'll just have to keep reading to see. I'd have no problem recommending this book fans of the genre.

What I liked most about Hidden Agenda was that the story got straight into the action without much time reflecting on what had gone before. Dan Roy is a special operations soldier who works for an elite secretive organisation that brings justice to the bad guys wherever they threaten the lives of good people across the globe. Sounds familiar? And if it does that is exactly what Mike Bose went for, because I see his books appeal to readers, like me, who thoroughly enjoy all the tropes of the genre. Bose really understands what fans of espionage action thrillers wants, and then delivers page after page.

The story starts with a full on military skirmish in the Talibanlands of Afghanistan and the discovery of a secret missile site. I didn’t realise until I was about a quarter of the way through Hidden Agenda that this was a teaser story, an appetiser before the main event. Kind of like a Roger Moore’s James Bond opening pre-title action sequence before the main movie that has nothing to do with the main plot but gets you in the mood for what is to come. I was struck with the level of detail Bose goes into about military methods and arsenal, even though it appears he doesn’t have a military background. I really felt drawn into what was happening ‘outside the wire’ so to speak.

The main story fast forwards to about six month after the intro story. Roy is in London burnt out after too much killing and too many betrayals, but like all good action heroes, the past catches up with him. Soon he’s coerced and manipulated to undertake another mission inside Afghanistan where he is framed for weapon smuggling. Returning to London to clear his name, Roy runs his own ops to find out who set him up and what nefarious schemes the bad guys are up to.

Nicely balanced with investigations and actions, Hidden Agenda is a great introduction into the Dan Roy series. I really enjoyed this one.

Move over all other action heroes .. DAN'S THE MAN!!

Dan Roy is one of those men who do the dirty work for their government, going into the most dangerous situations in the world whilst knowing that if it all goes wrong, his very existence will be denied. Something is not quite right with the current mission and suspicion falls on Dan. Who, what, why? That's the million dollar question and only one person can get to the truth.

This is a very exciting read. Every time a piece of the puzzle is answered another few pieces are thrown into the mix. I found myself slowing down my reading to allow me to think about events. The characters are all completely plausible and it struck me that this would transfer to both large and small screens very successfully.

Whilst this is a complete novel, it's also set up as the beginning of a series. For me, this is up there with the very best special ops thrillers and is extremely readable. I'm going to miss having Dan Roy in my head - roll on book two!

I received a copy from the author which in no way influenced me - this is my honest and unbiased review.

Plenty of action, especially at the end. Could have used a little more background on the main character Dan Roy. While he is really good at what he does, he is not portrayed as a Superman. He did get beat up, shot at, and had to fight his way out of jams. I would have liked to have read a little more detail on how Dan Roy got to be so good. Show me some tradecraft that only an elite operator like Dan would use. Give me some details and not just generic action. What makes Dan so good that he got selected to join Intercept?

It seems like all the new action heroes these days are SEALS or former SEALS (even the new Magnum PI). In the 70’s when Mack Bolan was just getting started all the action heroes were Green Berets. The main story took place in London, but I never really felt I was there. I visited London last Oct (Vikings – Browns). What makes London different from New York? This all boils down to the level of research put into a book. Show me why Dan is such a hot shot and make me feel like I am in London instead of anywhere USA.

Will I try another Dan Roy thriller? Probably will. I was a junkie of the Executioner (Bolan) and Destroyer action thrillers from the 70’s and would not mind reading about similar type action heroes from today.

“Hidden Agenda” is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller that begins with intel about a planned jihadist attack on a major European city, photos of a cache of missiles and a dead CIA agent in London, and Dan Roy’s mission to Afghanistan to either capture or kill a senior Al-Qaeda fighter protected in a Taliban compound that he’s to destroy. Dan’s problems begin when the Person of Interest (POI) is missing, and he uncovers an arsenal of weapons in the cellar only to have his pictures/camera mysteriously disappear on his return.

Framed for sabotaging the mission especially when incriminating evidence is found in his locker and his mentor Major Guptill who assigned him is found dead, Dan goes on the run racing against time to discover the truth before a sinister plan is hatched that could start a world war.

In a thrill ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end, the action never slows as Dan is hunted and shot at, trusting no one except Chloe Guptill, the major’s daughter who puts herself in danger as she pursues the facts behind her father’s murder. Exciting and compelling the roller coaster ride never stops as the death toll climbs and Dan uses his physical skills, ingenuity and tenacity to uncover twists in the plot that will surprise readers as the story draws quickly and smoothly to an explosive confrontation at the end.

Skilfully Mick Bose creates characters that are complex and realistic especially Dan Roy the tough, clever and honorable ex-black operations specialist who quit Intercept after a failed mission. Chloe Guptill the daughter of Dan's mentor and a journalist for the London Herald is strong-willed, a bit arrogant and has a streak of vulnerability.

Like all of Mike Bose’s novels I thoroughly enjoyed “Hidden Agenda”. With a gripping plot and colorful characters the intensity and suspense never slows but continually escalates right to the end and I intend to look for more of his novels in future.

Kindle Unlimited, #0, lots of action, really hard for me to describe it all. Hidden Agenda is book #1 and Dark Water is #2 and great follow up books.

Hellfire: A Dan Roy Thriller (The Dan Roy Series 0)
Hidden Agenda : A Dan Roy Thriller: Dan Roy Series Book 1
Dark Water: A Dan Roy Thriller (The Dan Roy Series Book 2)

Enemy Within {this one more historical action, hard to explain} but just as good as the others just different way.

Errors and fights

The landing and take off area on an aircraft carrier is a Flight Deck not an airfield, also, there is no ground on a ship, it's a deck. An area where a helicopter lands while on mission is an LZ (landing zone) not a helicopter landing area. I guess this seems kind of Petty but correct terminology lends credibility to the narrative.
It was was a decent read with good fight scenes.

Hidden Agenda is a man’s book. It is a combustible, adrenaline-fuelled mix of blood, gore, violence and excitement. It takes off with a rush from the opening lines and races to an explosive and nerve-tingling climax at the US Embassy in London. I couldn’t put it down.

From the outset the writing is taut, crisp, and tense, with loads of geographical and technical accuracy to add authenticity to an already enthralling story. It leaves little room for reflection or cerebral dawdling. Bose set out to write a gut-wrenching thriller and he delivers one … in spades.

Dan Roy, battle-weary, cynical, and just plain tired, has resigned from his life as a black ops specialist. All he wants is peace and quiet, and a chance to travel aimlessly … no fuss, no rush, no hassle. Some chance! His old boss needs help and Dan can’t refuse. So, it’s one more mission! But things don’t pan out as planned. There’s an ‘eminence gris’ in high places with his own agenda and Dan finds himself accused of treason, having to kill a couple of Government agents to free himself so that he can bring the fight to an implacable enemy. Alone now, and initially clueless, Dan seeks answers to a numbers of questions. Who is framing him? Who are his enemies? Who are his friends? Who can he trust? No one seems to be what they appear to be. Delicious intrigue! Captivating! A blue-eyed blonde enters the fray and Dan is no longer alone. But now he is hampered as he seeks to protect his new friend.

This book has echoes of Ludlum’s Jason Bourne (Bourne struggles to evade capture by Threadstone; Roy struggles with Intercept) with very strong parallels to Lee Child’s Jack Reacher. Roy has the same big build and massive strength as Reacher but Bose takes over where Child leaves off. Great writing, imaginative plotting, whirl-wind action, and a pace that becomes increasingly frenetic as the story progresses, is the equal of anything to be found in Child or Ludlum. In trying to hang on to the writer’s tail, the reader scarcely has time to breathe.

Other readers will notice a couple of minor glitches, so I’ll have to mention them briefly. The odd typo obtrudes here and there, and one rather distracting contradiction. Dan’s leg is injured badly in an explosion and he has to drag it after him as he seeks to escape, yet a short while later he is leaping out of a helicopter and charging up stairs, three steps at a time. But these are minor aberrations and can very easily be fixed. They do not detract at all from what is a brilliant thriller. Fans of Ludlum, of Child, or of any other exponent of the thriller genre, prepare to meet Bose. You’ll love him.

Buy Hidden Agenda. You won’t regret it.

This is a fast-paced, well-thought-out, solid story. The execution is what caused me to drop from 5 stars to 4. I DO wish Goodreads had 1/2 stars (!!!!) because I truly believe this warrants 4 1/2 stars ~

The characters are fairly well drawn ~ likable. A flawed main character always reads well ~ we root for them! ~ provided that character ~ in this case, Dan Roy ~ is not only likable, but also reads capable; capable of maintaining the action. Dan Roy is and does: he reads both likable and capable. The story itself, as mentioned above, is a fast-paced, well-thought-out, solid piece of fiction, that reads like it could happen. There is no HEA or fairy-tale ending. [SPOILER: SKIP TO NEXT PARAGRAPH!!! It ends as it should: he leaves alone. That's all a character like him ~ a person like him ~ can do.]

I'm hoping the next books have the execution issues solved so I can give them 5 stars! Yes, I do intend to read them ~ I'm interested in what happens next for Dan Roy!

We are here to review the storyline, plot, characters and how well It entertained us... not grammar errors or mispellings, and if your giving a 3 star review for a mispellings word then you have issues... I feel this was such an amazing story thst I read this for FREE as an ARC reader and I *STILL* bought this book, it is just that good. I don't give reviews on anything except flow of the story, the development, or lack thereof, of characters/world/relationships, etc. This book is fast paced, has complex characters and relationships, no dreaded padding or word fluff, NO ERRORS, grammatical or mispellings, etc... just an amazing book by an amazing author... Hidden Agenda: A Dan Roy Thriller: Dan Roy Series Book 1
By: Mick Bose
5 out of 5 stars

The story Hidden Agenda: A Dan Roy Thriller: Dan Roy Series Book 1 by Mick Bose is a thrilling suspense book. There is a global conspiracy that is taking form and Dan Roy uncovers the plot. Now he and everyone around him is in danger. Will he be able to take down those responsible or will he be too late to save the world from destruction? This story is a real page-turner. Once you start you can’t help but wish you could read faster. There is so much action and intrigue you will find yourself getting lost in the story. Once I was on the last page all I could say is “WoW!” Dan Roy is an awesome character. He has the skills to keep foiling any attempts to take him out. He reminds me of the character Jason Bourne. He is lethal with both weapons and his hands. This is the first book I have read by the author and I can say that this is a series it will not be the last. The attention to detail in this book is off the charts and must have taken a lot of time to research. This is a book for anyone who loves thrilling reads that have you on the edge of your seat, dying to know how it all ends. I borrowed this book through Kindle Unlimited and voluntarily reviewed it.

New Dan Roy fan

I had read the novella introducing this book previously. When I started this freebie I recognized the novella and nearly deleted the book, thinking I had read it all. But I had enjoyed the novella so much that I decided to reread it. Wow, am I glad I did. I was so happy to find a new novel following it, and every page drew me in further. The world needs men like Dan Roy and readers need a character like Dan Roy. I am interested in seeing where his life goes now. Lots of action, lots of patriotism, lots of surprises, lots to enjoy. This is one of those books you enjoy consuming without having to bother with extraneous matters of politics, sociology, excess romance, prolonged descriptions. Just serious engaging storylines and action.

An MB. Mystery Thriller (TDRSB. - 1)/International Terrorism/Traitor/A Frame-Up/A Great Ending

MB. has. penned the first novel in the Dan Roy series. DR. Accepts a mission against his wishes because he has been asked by a previous mentor. During the mission DR. Is framed for conspiracy and has to go on the run and operate outside the law. The problems are not insurmountable, but difficult because he is being watched and tracked. He discovers what the terrorist have in mind. It's a three way package between Al. Queda, the Russian Mafia and an American traitor. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

good tight thriller with political conspiracies run amok. The main character, Dan Roy is a special forces super operative working for a shadow government agency that does not officially exist carrying out secret operations that are unofficial. He uncovers a massive conspiracy at the highest levels of the government and manages to destroy it. This theme, of course, has been played out in countless books, and movies, but this one is a fresh look at it. The action sequences are brisk, the dialogue sizzles and in general, it is a fast-paced intelligent thriller.

well worth a read.

I managed 8 chapters but there were a few reasons why I couldn't read on: the writing style is horrible, everything is a short sentence so it didn't fit together properly. I feel like the author was on speed while writing as yes there's a lot of action but there's limited or confusing information on the locations/action so it doesn't flow well. The amount of acronyms is head spinning, i lost track of them after about the 11th one, it's great that the author has this military knowledge but there's just too much for a regular civ like myself

Good but flawed

The story was good and the lead character likeable but I had to deduct a star for all the mistakes.
It's not just the grammar and typos that seem to be a common theme in books transcribed for kindle, but there are several glaring mistakes, not least the part where they get the Toyota out of the garage and then a few sentences later say "they walked towards the Nissan"! That's a totally different manufacturer.
I would read more in the series, but because of all the mistakes only if they were very cheap or free.

A chilling story of greed, terrorism and betrayal. Dan Roy finds that his retirement is not an option as he is drawn back into another operation. The writing is crisp and keeps the suspense up while providing all the necessary information. Dan has to use all his capabilities to survive, and eventually uncover the traitor in his organization. The story is thrilling right up to the end, and probably worth another read, even if you know the ending.

Dan wonders why he left Delta for this job with.Intercept.A secret group no one knew about, nor could you say if caught. When he gets out, retired, when his former handler and boss contacts him. A global conspiracy is about to happen. Good clear plot that unfolds, of what is taking place, full of action. The character of Dan you like, a no nonsense type of guy. Definitely a good international thriller to read.

The action never stops. The Black Ops lead character works for a clandestine organization in his country. He eventually leaves the life but finds his "retirement" was not as permanent as he wished. The story is action-packed and, thus, a speedy read. Dan Roy is a likeable, capable character with a tender side that is not fulfilled in the story. I also read the novella which was a good introduction to the book. I plan to keep reading about Dan Roy.

Dan Roy is finished with the secret organisation Intercept and just wants a normal life!! However, his ex CO comes calling and Dan is dragged back in to the world of secrets and lies. This is a good start to a new series, perhaps a bit too indestructible, Dan makes a good leading character and it will be interesting to see how he develops.

Nonstop Action!

Dan Roy is a one man machine every ops needs but can’t talk about. It’s a dangerous and lonely life. Bose takes us on thrilling adventures of Roy’s assignments covering Afghanistan and throughout London. He has excellent character development. If you like nonstop action, twists and turns, CIA type of thrillers, this is the book for you! I highly recommend it!

An excellent debut from Mick Bose. Dan Roy is a great character who
You really get behind and want him to succeed. On a black ops mission in Afghanistan chasing terrorists, I was gripped from the start to the finish.
If you like fast paced action books with a character you can believe in you should definitely give this author a go.

Holiday read 2018

Nice book to read, particularly when it’s mainly set in London. However that’s where it sometimes fails for me. The author using ‘zip codes’ instead of uk ‘postcodes’ and the London area descriptions are definitely written by somebody from another country.
Small points but a overall good read.

The deaths are sad but the relationships are heart warming. Dan is a fantastic character. I love how well written this series is and how full bodied and charismatic the characters are. I did think I knew the guilty or evil person a bit before we were told, but I think the way it played out was fun!
