Disappointing!

Lacey is a former LAPD officer, who gets into trouble because of her ex-boyfriend. Shamed and disgraced, but needing a job, she teams up with a Native American psychic.

Firecloud is able to see and feel spirits from the other world. So he is hired to help out people who lives in haunted houses and Lacey is videographer.

This first book in the series is lacking action, thus lacking interest for me. There is a lot of talking between the two characters, but not much spirit seeking. Maybe it’s in an attempt to get us to know them a bit.

If that’s the case, I’ll give this series another try, but the next book had better liven up.

Let me start with the end of this book and the closing words: Coming soon: Skin Walk, Another Lacey Fitzpatrick and Sam Firecloud mystery. Surely the best words to read when you’ve enjoyed a book so much, you want more, and thankfully, there's the promise of a sequel!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all Bowersock’s novels…she’s an author who can turn her hand to an eclectic array of genres…but I have to say this probably earns the title of 'my favourite'…or, at least, one of my favourites. It’s a whodunnit with a difference: an ex-detective, Lacey Fitzpatrick, who can’t get crime-solving out of her blood, joins forces with Sam Firecloud, who has a gift for communicating with ghosts. Lacey is more used to dealing with facts and physical evidence, so probably not her typical choice of partner, but when he manages to solve an old case, she’s confident that together they’ll be able to solve their latest tough case. Tough because there’s no evidence to suggest a murder has actually been committed.
As ever, Bowersock’s style is spot on: her words are carefully chosen. There’s no over- or under-use: the picture is efficiently painted, yet you feel that no expense has been spared. Lacey is a strong, well-rounded character…and Sam…well, Sam couldn’t be more different: mysterious, quiet, intense, deep. But they couldn’t be a more perfect match, and it’s going to be great fun accompanying them on their crime-(ghost)-busting journey. I can’t wait!

The unlikely team of Lacey, an ex-LAPD detective and Sam Firecloud, who is part Navajo and can communicate with ghosts, solve this first mystery in the series and do not disappoint. Lacey has resigned from the police force, due to the fallout from her ex-boyfriend's illicit activities which tainted her impeccable reputation. Sam is hired by homeowners, among others, to commune with whomever or whatever is haunting their dwelling. They team up over a case that Lacey had wanted to solve while on the force. She is still able to help but realizes that she has to move on and does decide to become a private investigator. She and Sam work well together and complement each other with his supernatural ability and her detective experience. The characters were well developed, and the story was quite interesting and there was actually another case they work on in this quite interesting and entertaining mystery and police procedural. I know that I will be continuing on with this series as this was well written and quite enjoyable.

This was an intriguing mystery.
I liked the characters of Lacey (ex -cop turned private investigator) and Sam Firecloud, who can communicate with ghosts. They are both unusual and they make a great team. I especially liked Lacey's independent spirit.
This was a well written, entertaining story that kept me turning the pages.

This is the first book in the series (there are lots of books in the series which I now need to get!) , it is a unique detective story rather than you're normal coppers duo this one is an ex cop and a man who can sense and feel the spirits.

In this book we have Lacey , an ex cop who is itching to get back too it rather than the security job she is currently doing , when she sees that there is some progress on a cold case she had been working on before she lost her job she just has to go and investigate herself a little bit , this is where her path crosses with Sam Firecloud . Sam is a silent mysterious type of guy who has the ability to feel and hear distressed spirits. Together they work as a team to solve cases and bring justice to the living and the dead.

The book had me hooked , it was intriguing , different and had great characters to get to know. It has definitely made me want to continue reading this series and seeing their teamwork bust more cases!

Ghost Walk is the story of a disgraced ex-cop and a Navajo medium coming together to solve crimes. I enjoyed this story and getting to know these characters. As of this book, there's no romance between to the two but i can feel it brewing. The story is interesting but i had it figured out way before poor Lacey did. I would read or listen to the next book in this series as it takes place on the Reservation and has some supernatural in it!
Melissa Bowersock reads this one and she does a great job.

Audiobook review

The story and characters were nice enough. I love reading and listening to these kinds of stories. Where the law-enforcement (or others) team up with gifted people to solve crimes and Lacey and Sam were a good team. I liked how they complimented each other, but also how they grew together as partners. The sad part is that the narration and lack of editing kept me from fully enjoying this story.

I rarely comment on the quality of the audio and the recording of it itself, I usually don’t have anything to say on that subject. However the recording of Ghost Walk needed a lot of editing and I found that distracting throughout the book.

I listen to audiobooks basically all day, every day, they are my lifeline and keep me sane(ish). The first thing that I noticed was the sound, it felt off and not the way it usually do. I’m not talking about Ms. Wilson’s voice, but rather the soundwaves themselves. I don’t think they bounced as they should, as the sound sounded flat and kind of dead. There was no softness to them, it was harsh and kind of raw. On the other hand this was something you got used to after listening a while. I also got used to the monotonous way Wilson narrated. It’s far from my preference, at the same time it’s nice to listen to someone new.

By far my biggest issue was the background noises. If I have to guess I believe the narrator was wearing big earrings (or possibly bracelets) that moved every time she did. And she moved - a lot. So the chiming of the jewellery could be heard all the time. And once you heard it the first time, you kept on hearing it time and again. There were times you could hear them in every sentence. I’m someone that gets easily distracted by absolutely everything, so more than once I found myself focusing on the background noises rather than the story, and that’s never a good sign.

A copy of this audiobook was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

LOVED IT!! Interesting characters; a plot that kept me reading from page to page. I kept screaming at my e-reader when I figured out the meaning of a clue! The connection to current events struck a chord with me too. I can’t wait to read book 2 in the series!

I received a free review copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I thought this book was just okay. The main character Lacey Fitzpatrick was semi-interesting, though the way she talked about people of color was a bit off in the beginning chapters, and it seemed that her powers of investigation were a bit stunted even though she and Sam eventually solved the cases (more on this later). I just felt that her character was pretty static, especially in comparison to Sam, whose character continued getting more interesting as time went on and it was evident that there were layers to his personality. I wish we had the chance to learn more about Derrick's betrayal of Lacey, and more about how she reacted and felt in the wake of the action and eventual resignation from the police force. That would have added more interest to her character.

About Lacey's deduction and investigative skills, I don't know, there were just some very weird plot choices in this book that seem to have obviously been made in order to lengthen the book, but did not work in the interest of a logical plot.

This book was just okay, but for some reason, I'm slightly curious to read the next book in the series - perhaps to see if there is improvement.

Lacey Fitzpatrick works as a security guard for a self-storage place because her ex-boyfriend was a dirty Vice cop and ended up in prison. With all of the reporters hounding her at every crime scene she decided the best thing to do was to resign from the LAPD Homicide Unit. But man does she miss it. Then, 6 months after leaving, the newspaper reports that a girl’s body is discovered and it may be connected to a serial killer cold case she was obsessed with. So, she goes to the crime scene to see what’s up and finds out that Sam Firecloud was called into the home by the owner because of unusual paranormal activity. Sam is a medium and he’s the real deal. In order to catch the Fairfax Stalker Lacey needs to convince Sam to work with her on it.

I had this book on my list for a while and finally decided to give it a go after going on a blogging break. This is an easy book to read. It flows smoothly and the pages turn themselves. Not literally. But I was done before I realized it. Lacey is a flawed character who tries to fix herself. She doesn’t usually wallow in her mistakes. Sam is a half-Navajo medium who keeps pretty much to himself. He doesn’t flash his gift around. He just wants to release spirits that are trapped and live his life. He’s not real excited about helping Lacey, but they end up making a terrific team. There’s not much gore to this. Bad things happen to girls in this book (revealed by the spirits), but it’s not front and center. I really like Sam and Lacey. The end up meshing really well together and I enjoy the writing and Lacey’s research so much I grabbed the next book in the series. And the next. And the next. Well, I binged, so that should tell you how much I enjoy these books. I highly recommend this cozy paranormal mystery.

First book in the series and I love it. I had a few late nights with my phone light dimmed while I continued racing through this engaging read so as not to wake anyone. The characters were developed well and the writing flowed. I immediately became curious of Lacy's (main character) story line... felt like being in school again and trying to keep up with a favorite TV drama. This nook is awesome and can not wait for the next.

Paranormal Happenings

This first book in the series about Lacey Fitzpatrick and Sam Firecloud. Lucey is a ex-policeofficer and Sam is a Navaho psychic. He walks an area and can feel the spirits of the deceased. Together, they form a partnership in order to solve unusual Mysteries. In the first book, they solve an old serial killing, and then the 3 year old murder of a man who was believed drowned but his body was never recovered. Great read hopefully can read them all soon.

This is the first in a series of books and was written in such a way that you were slowly introduced to the characters, allowing future books to draw you in further. I enjoyed the pace of the book and found the main protagonists of Lacey and Sam to be interesting and real. Keen to read more! (Book to review was provided by Voracious Readers)

Ghost walk was an intriguing book which partners Lacey, a cop, with Sam, a Navaho Indian that can communicate with ghosts to solve crimes. I loved the intensity between them, and the flow of the story. I easily read this book in 2 days. A great beach read for summer if you love a ghost thriller.

Another keeper

Stumbled on this accidentally and thought it was intriguing. Jumped right in, and Lacey and Sam pulled me in further, so much so that it took about a day to finish. Each are good at what they do, but needed something more. Lacey's research skills and knowledge of law enforcement, and Sam's special skills of connecting with the dead, fit together as an awesome crime solving pair. Glad there are more waiting for me. Off to the next!

This was an easy and enjoyable book to read. That being said, it felt like it was channeling The Dead Files. For those who don't know the TV show, it's a psychic who partners with a former detective. She does the walkthrough and he does the research. It's a really good reality show and this book has the same premise. Things move along fairly rapidly. There wasn't a lot of side info that fills a word count but doesn't add much to the storyline. And that is more like a cozy mystery. I can see this being read by mystery fans and paranormal fans. If you've looking for something to wile away a summer afternoon, this will make a good choice.

I received a copy of this novel from the author via Voracious Readers Only. As mystery and paranormal suspense are my favourite genres; I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

In this first installment of many, we meet Lacey Fitzpatrick a former LAPD detective turned security guard. Still reeling from the betrayal in love and work, Lacey has taken a leave from the police dept. and is working as a night shift security guard. Enter Sam; a Navaho medium who feels dead people and can see their deaths. The two meet after he helps unearth a new lead in a cold case Lacey worked when she was a cop. They decide to team up in hopes of solving the case

I really like Melissa Bowersock's style of writing. She efficiently uses relatively well-known landmarks to help build pictures and is very adept at capturing and putting thoughts into words. Making the story that much more believable. I look forward to seeing what's in store for Lacey and Sam in this continuing series.

I received a copy of this novel from Voracious Readers Only. I enjoy a good thriller/mystery, so this seemed right up my alley.

In the first installment of many, we meet Lacey Fitzpatrick a former LAPD detective turned security guard. Her relationship with another officer led to a precint wide disgrace and her ultimate resignation. Still reeling from the loss of love and work, Lacey finds herself stuck in a rut. She wants to be of use, but how much can you really do patroling storage spaces at 3 o'clock in the morning. Enter, Sam Firecloud. A Navajo construction worker from Arizona, Sam is no-nonsense. That's probably because he has a connection to the spiritual plane. That connection drains him of empathy for the living. Lacey and Sam meet after he helps to unearth a lead in a cold case Lacey obsessed over when she was a cop. The two develop a bond that leads them to explore more of their potential. They take on a spiritual disturbance in a wealthy family home, leading them down unfamiliar paths. Will they solve the case or are they just chasing ghosts?

Ghost Walk was a fairly enjoyable read. I really enjoy Bowersock's style of writing. She efficiently describes people and situations, using relatively well-known landmarks to help build pictures with minimal effort. That is a great skill that, I think, was helpful in this situation. What disheartened me quite a bit was how long Bowersock drew out the mystery. More than that, how inefficient the main character, Lacey, was at solving the mystery. It really took away from my experience, but the character building and relationships saved it for me.

I would recommend this for those that are interested in a light-hearted mystery novel. I have purchased the next book in the series and can't wait to see what's in store for Lacey and Sam.

Ghost Walk by Melissa Bowersock

I don’t normally gravitate toward mysteries but Sam Firecloud, a half-Navajo man who communicates with ghosts, hooked me. He’s very private and soft-spoken, he is going to take some time to get to know though. However, I really like what I have seen of him so far.

Lacey Fitzpatrick, an ex-LAPD detective, could be considered Sam’s opposite. She is all about facts, excels in research, and is good about fitting pieces together in cold case files. She is not quite sure what to make of Sam at first and would rather write him off as a quack. However, she becomes a believer from what he gleaned from a cold case file she had been working on before she left the force. Lacey further tests Sam’s abilities when he asks her if she would like to accompany him on another case he has been contacted about. With her interest piqued she follows along with more preparation for documenting his findings. This is where the story’s meat is.

Lacey is a smart, conscientious, but head-strong heroine. Her character development is more fully rounded than Sam’s, but I am excited to learn more about his introspective character. The twists in the story are captivating and not too far-fetched to believe. I think this is going to be an enthralling new series to follow and I am looking forward to more from Lacey and Sam’s new partnership.

FYI: “Ghost Walk” is the first book in A Lacey Fitzpatrick and Sam Firecloud Mystery series. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy.** February 6, 2017

I received a copy of this book from Voracious Readers in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book. It was fast paced, had a bit of mystery and the two main characters were extremely likeable. It was an easy read and I liked the subject matter: Lacey has left the police force due to a scandal and had an investigative mindset and Sam is someone who can see ghosts and feel energies (to put it simply).
I think there could have been slightly more character building and it was a pretty quick read. However, I still think it was a great book and very interesting.
can't wait to read more in this series!

I received a copy of the book free for my honest opinion. Honestly, I really liked this book. The banter between the main characters; Lacey and Sam, was fun. That said it was a murder mystery type of story so I wasn’t sure going in if this was going to be a blood fest that would leave me with nightmares (I read it before bed). It was not. I figured out the clue they were missing as soon as it showed up (it wasn’t hidden very deep), so if you prefer to be completely shocked at the “who done it”, this is probably not the book for you. If you like light mystery that introduces a series, this is a fun read. I’m adding the next book to my list and can only hope the series continues to entertain.
