In this new additions to the storybook series, Hello Kitty stars as Little Red Riding Hood. This series marks the first time Hello Kitty has starred in a fairy tale series, making these padded deluxe editions a must-have for any Hello Kitty fan.
I’m slowly reading these hello kitty storybooks for kicks and since they’re available on my library app, why not? I love that the blurb says clever hello kitty will defeat the wolf. Hilarious because that’s not the case. Anyways, it was cute and super toned down to remain pleasant. It was alright. 3/5.
I thought this was a super cute and fun version of little red riding hood featuring Hello Kitty. The illustrations were fun and colorful for students and the wording was not too hard. I think incorporating Hello Kitty is a fun way to switch up an old story in a unique way.
A retelling of the classic fairytale that is very tame and sure to be a big appeal for PreK-2. The elements are all there, though anything even remotely scary has been removed (i.e. first meeting the Wolf, Wolf eating Grandma etc).
I was a little disappointed that the whole exchange between Little Red and the Wolf in which Little Red questions the wolf's features all took place in Little Red's mind, but ultimately this is an okay retelling for readers looking for a very uncomplicated version of the tale.
This is pretty much the classic Little Red Riding Hood story a little toned down and done with Hello Kitty art.
----- Edit 12/31/18 I re-read this as part of the Hello Kitty Presents the Fairytale Collection omnibus. It's got some differences--Grandma hides in the closet before the wolf comes in, so no one actually gets eaten. A farmer comes in and traps the wolf in a net, and then the wolf gets a scolding from Grandma. A much cuter version than the traditional!
