This story kept me on the edge of my seat and the pages turning as it unfolds with fear, heartache, greed, murder, and life and death situations. How far are you willing to go in this cat and mouse game of survival when only one person can come out the victor? Basia is a smart and resourceful lady who realizes that in her moment of grief and weakness she has been hoodwinked by Darek, the man who was so sweet and attentive is now no more than a calculating monster. The plot twists kept me in constant suspense from Poland to the United States. This story offers up several cases that eventually tie together and clever masterminded. Riley and Basia’s encounters sizzled the pages as they have a one-night-stand after drinks in a bar. Oh, but it won’t stop there, sometimes once isn’t enough. Beware, danger is lurking, and it is evil with the intent to destroy and using whomever he can during his rampage.
As a fan of Angela Ford’s work, this is one of her best, most suspenseful and ingenious stories. The cast of characters offers from sweet to evil, gullible to controlling, with passion and sexy to cruel and devious. The dialog takes the reader on this roller coaster journey with an unexpected surprise at the end. Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer!
A marriage gone wrong, a one night stand gone wrong and a stake out gone horribly wrong yet everything comes together to make this novel so very right some how.
When Basia realizes she is on the horrible end of an abusive relationship she feels trapped -not wanting to lose half of her parents small fortune in the divorce but knowing she couldn't stay in a violent relationship. All she wants to do is to escape her home country, her bad marriage and pursue her career in forensics.
Months later, free of the abuse, Basia starts over, meeting Riley on a first name only basis. Riley, a New York cop who recently lost his work partner, is devoted to his job and is as interested in marriage as his new fling. Neither of them had any idea what havoc their one night of passion would create or the secrets that would unfold.
Come along for the ride and see if you can find the guilty one before more are killed.
Provoked by Angela Ford is a fast-paced romantic suspense that grabs the reader's attention from the first chapter and keeps it until the very end. Despite the fact that this is not my go-to genre, I read the story in 1 seating and was quite entertained by it. I will be looking to read more of Ford's books in the future.
*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinion stated are solely my own and no one else's*
3.5-4 stars
Provoked by Angela Ford was dark, twisted and literally made the hairs on the back of my neck stick up.
Basia married a man she thought she loved; but he changed. Darek became cold, heartless, conniving and abusive: physically and emotionally. She needed to escape from the constant fear and abuse, so she took matters into her own hands.
Riley ends up in hospital for being shot and is taken off duty. He's assigned to a desk job working on cases concerning missing people. One catches his eye; the date is the same date he got shot and lost his partner. He starts an investigation but the things he discovers along the way, make him doubt everything.
This was quite a good read with lots of mystery and suspense yet light on the romance. The plot was complicated, yet twisted and some of the characters gave me the creeps. Angela's masterful writing keeps you hooked and eagerly guessing whose behind everything but just when you think you know, things take a different direction to keep you on edge and guessing. I found the book to be quite repetitious in places especially, in the beginning. At times, I felt a little lost and confused because things kept jumping from past to present and vice versa - due to this the book didn't flow smoothly.
Basia thought she had the perfect husband. She loved the family business and excelled in it. And he was there when she lost her parents and helped her keep it together. But after they were married he showed his true colors and wasn't the man he had portrayed. After escaping him she left Poland and went back to New York. To the last place she had friends. Riley was shot on the job and after his recover he was placed in missing persons. The first case he found grabbed his interest as she was reported missing the day he had been shot. The case has him intrigued because things aren't quite what they seem. Riley has an incredible passionate one night stand the night before he was to return to work. With the agreement to first-names-only, not knowing if he'd ever see her again until he returned to work to be introduce the the Lieutenant. This case opens up doors that neither one wants to explore. This book is full of twist and intrigue. It pulls you in and doesn't let go until the end.
I was hooked from beginning to end, lots of drama and suspense. The characters are amazing and the chemistry between Riley and Basia is steamy. I really liked it.
This is such an excellent read. The suspense and action will have you turning the pages as fast as you can. You will be traveling across the countries with her living in fear, executing extensive measures just to be free while she finds herself along the way and becoming stronger each day.
Angela Ford weaves a tight story of intrigue and murder in the novel Provoked. Basia is a woman provoked by the man she thought loved her to do the unthinkable. She realizes her marriage is a sham and she must kill her husband before he kills her. After his death, Basia returns to the US to a job with the NYPD in forensics. In a bar, she meets an man that agrees to a first name only one-night stand, imagine her surprise to find he is also a police officer. Needless to say their attraction to each other goes beyond one night, which complicates both Riley and Basia's lives. Riley has been on leave since being shot and losing his partner during a drug operation. Add in unexplained deaths that somehow relate to the drug operation, a creepy building superintendent that wants to write a best seller. and a ghost from the past and you have a well paced, suspenseful story that draws the reader in and has them putting together the puzzle pieces to solve the multiple crimes.
What a great read. Loved it! This book was right up my alley. I like to read romance and mystery combined. I really enjoyed this book. It held my attention through the entire book. Basia was a very strong-willed person, who was fed up with the way her husband treated her. And believe me, she had reason to be fed up. I wanted to crawl into the book and hurt him!! What an evil person Darek is!! But Detective Riley, now there’s an awesome hero!! Although he doesn’t have a history of always going by the book, he works hard to bring justice. This book has everything…romance, killing, mystery, evil people, poison, and so much more. I would recommend this book. It makes you want to read another one of her books.
Loved this book! I was drawn into the story line from the start and held captive to the very end. It is full of suspense, mystery, secrets, murder and revenge. There is also a growing attraction between Basia and Riley that is amazing. The author has a unique way with words and gives the characters remarkable interactions. Well worth reading!
This book is heavy on suspense and light on romance. Basia and Riley romance consisted on one stands with instant love. The murder mystery part of the book was a lot more involve with lots of twists and turns. If you like more mystery and low heat romance this is the book for you.
