She thought that her life was progressing exactly as planned but for Claire Black everything is about to be unraveled...
When Claire's creepy new boss Nick promotes her to a job she doesn't understand; it's obvious to everyone but her that he wants something in return. To make matter worse, she accidentally upsets the very man that Nick told her to avoid, the unbearably sexy Vice-President, Satish Bhatt.
Things get even stickier for Claire when her "friends" decide that sabotage is the answer, her roommate Sally drops a bombshell and Claire starts to want a lot more of the man she supposed to avoid. A man who seems to have secrets of his own.
Unraveled is the first book in the Jersey Girls series. If you like fast-paced, breezy, funny chick-lit with characters you fall in love with and a dash of intrigue and suspense that will keep you turning pages, you will love Unraveled.
Pick up Unraveled today to find out the secrets that rock Claire's world!
Lisa-Marie Cabrelli mostly writes fun, flirty beach reads but a recent re-entry to education has her shifting her writing focus. She graduated with Distinction from the University of Dundee earning an MLitt in Crime Writing and Forensic Investigation. She also won the Val McDermid prize for best dissertation which was a portion of her upcoming novel, Bad Boys. She's currently working on the first book in a dystopian trilogy while pursuing a Ph.D. in Creative Writing, also with University of Dundee.
Lisa-Marie is a digital nomad, living on the road with her husband, but primarily hanging in Scotland, Italy, Florida and The Bahamas. She has a grown-up daughter who she misses every day.
I do love an office romance, add into the mix a sleazy boss that doesn't get his own way, a multi-cultural relationship, mean office girls, a heroine that stands by her morals and you have Unraveled. This was a cute read and a realistic insight into some situations that more and more women find themselves in. However, in all office jobs people will have your backs but there are always those that want to bring you down.
I loved the cultural differences between our hero and heroine as they navigate their own romance. Cute and easy read.
"...Often, the only way to deliver above and beyond enough to get noticed was to do it yourself..."
I really liked this clean romance. The characters were believable and developed nicely. There is bit of romance and you also get the office mean girls which add to the drama. Claire starts off as a mousy office girl that was promoted and turns into a confident young woman willing to step out of her bounds and get to where she should be, not where everyone thought she should be.
Take one slimy boss who thinks the admins are there for his personal pleasure, add one determined admin, slip in a surprise promotion and mix them all together. What do you have? A delightful story about Claire Black, her best friend Sally, and the zing of falling in love. Oh yea, you have Claire doing the right thing in the new job-not following her sleazy boss's directions. A job well done and a way to meet the love of her life end in disaster after the sleaze fires Claire for not having a fling with him. It is a he said she said situation that she won't win. But every cloud does have a silver lining!
This sweet love story is different from many I have read due to the cultural differences between characters. Well written, the story moves smoothly to the end with many interesting aspects of Claire's life interspersed with the main story. This was a fun read and romantics will enjoy it and love how everything works out for the best!
I almost stopped reading this story in the beginning because I was so confused. I still can't tell you what the company Claire worked for did. Lol But I kept reading and was slowly sucked in. I really liked Satish and Claire together. Such a beautiful couple and an enjoyable read once I got over being confused. Lol
Unraveled is the first book I have read by Lisa-Marie Cabrelli and I was blown away. The book is written well and has a great cast of characters. She introduces her readers to the world of India and it's old traditions which are the heart of this story. Satish Bhatt is a young man from India who has been reared to honor his father and shoulder the burdens of his family. Claire is a young American woman who works for a lecher and has just been promoted into a position she is ill-prepared for. Office politics and rumors play a large part in the corporation where Satish and Claire both work, and both fall victim to jealous and catty coworkers. The author has written a wonderful book about relationships between friends and the complexities of those who become more than friends. She brings a realistic and compassionate story to life through her exquisite writing. She makes you a part of these friendships, through the joy and pain experienced by these friends. I would not classify this book as a typical romance, but rather, a love story. There is a lot of familial drama and heartache on the way to an HEA ending. This is truly one of the best books I have read in a long time!
This book had me from page 1 and "Hobo Ken"! I read it cover to cover in less than a day. I found this to be a really great read that had my emotions running the gamut. I laughed, I smiled, I sighed, I cried, I got angry, I got over it, and I can't wait to read the next in the series! I loved watching Claire grow and develop in her professional and personal life. My heart broke for Satish and the burden of weight his father thrust upon him from an early age that prevented him from living life to the fullest. I wanted to stand up and cheer for Nandita and the stand she took to make her own choices and become further educated. And, boy oh boy, did I LOVE seeing Nick get his comeuppance! (Dick a l'Orange Lisa-Marie? That was brilliantly funny!)
If you want a fun read that has some unexpected plot twists and a "sniffle-worthy" HEA, you should definitely read this book!

I’m just going to “bottom line” this: Lisa-Marie Cabrelli’s Unraveled: A Funny Sweet Romance (Jersey Girls Book 1) is a wonderful start to what I expect will be a great series, and easily worth five stars. This was one truly fun novel and definitely recommended. It had just what I wanted, was well written and a great plot that was just the “fast-paced, breezy, funny chick-lit” story promised. I adored its lead Claire and how she takes on everything she’s facing. She and the cast of supporting characters (hello Amelia and Caleb) were simply superb. What more I could one ask for?
I got this book for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. It made you laugh, cry, get angry, so many emotions came out reading this book. It showed how some bosses abuse their authority . These young women don't know any better. Till this one decides to stand up to her boss. When she did, others decided to help her. She had to work with another boss, she liked him. Things just blew up.
There is so much going on in this story. You have culture clash dealing with duty and obligation, sexual harassment in the workplace, assault, finding and realizing your dream, unconditional friendship, and of course, the happily ever after. I really enjoyed this story and looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I love these folks! They are very real. Can't wait to continue the series. There are a few places where words are missing or wrong (he instead of her etc.), but nothing that caused me problems with the flow.
Likable characters and great story line. A young women trying to get to her dream of her own designer shop. But complications of getting their. Their is some bad language.
This is an entertaining book. It has very believable characters and situations. Sexual harassment in the work place is still on going. It was really bad until laws against it came into effect. Still, the romance is sweet.
I do not like to leave and reviews because I of course don't write books and don't know what all it takes to be a Twitter but I really tried to read this book. The main guy didn't seem like much of a lead character and the main girl seemed to flounder in life. I was happy that the girl admitted she new nothing of the job she is taking on but that was where I stopped reading couldn't stay into it
This is a great book. Claire was the last in a long line of women being harassed by her boss Nick. No one had reported him. Claire was offered by Nick a promotion with a "you scratch my back I will scratch yours" condition. She knew nothing about the job she was supposed to be doing. Nick told her to avoid Satish, the head of IT and only talk to Phil. She was also supposed to just change the headings on the program and send it through. Instead she decided to find out exactly what her new job entailed and what everything meant. With the help of Maureen she was able to recommend who the programs be redone to work the best and explain to Satish that they would not be done in the time frame that Nick had promised and if they would explain this to the customers they would probably be OK with the extended timeframe as long as the program was going to work. They are they are then forced to work together because Phil is called out for jury duty for a couple weeks. As they start working closely they start having feelings for each other but neither says anything. Satish is promised to a girl back in India but he doesn't say anything because he starts doubting his loyalty and duty to his father. His youngest sister is also causing problems as she doesn't want the arranged marriage set up for her but wants to marry for love and also wants to get education. Claire helps Satish understand that his sister has choices and should be free to make them but in the process he looses his freedom of choice because he sacrifices his love for Claire so that his sister can come to the States and get her education. Are they able to really move on with their lives after the Nick fires her and there is a big shakeup at the office and Nick get fired. Maureen and Claire finally decide to band together to file lawsuit again the company for sexual harassment from Nick but the day they are to meet with HR, Satish is there and tells them the two gentlemen are their attorney's and to go with what they say and not act surprised. In the end they both receive what they wanted from the settlement. Claire is able to finally open her own shop.
Does their love survive or does Satish follow through and marry the girl he was supposed to from India? What happens with Nick? Does he get revenge on Claire for losing his job?
I had absolutely no idea what to expect when I started reading this book by a new author. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had a hard time putting it down.
Claire Black is working in a corporate setting to earn and save enough money to put away until the time she is able to realize her own dream - that of opening a boutique to sell her own line of clothing. She is promoted to a job for which she is not qualified and finds herself working with the sexy Satish Bhatt, the Vice President in charge of her new division. The two come from different cultures, yet find they are attracted to each other. Is it possible for them to find a future together?
I love the way that the author was able to bring them, as well as others in her story, to life. I became immersed in the cross-cultural differences and the struggle to find a way to overcome them. I wanted to see how the relationship would play out and if their personal dreams would be achieved.
Personally, I am excited to know that Lisa-Marie Cabrelli is already in the process of writing a sequel to this book. I can hardly wait to read it.

Unraveled is fabulous, it is genuinely one of the best books I've read in a long time. Oh, the joy of reading a well-written book with an absorbing plot.
When Claire's bullying and intimidating boss promotes her to a business analyst she panics, having neither knowledge nor qualification of what this entails, she suspects he has ulterior motives and that her job won't last long. Claire is outgoing and dreams of eventually starting her own clothes designing business, she ends up working closely with the vice president, Satish, a man reserved by his tough schooling and selfish father and lives only to work. Claire's friends step in to explain the technical details of her new job and her determination to successfully complete her task impresses Satish. They have an immediate attraction to each other and working together intensifies their feelings, something they both try to ignore. Thankfully they don't ignore how they feel or the book would end here.
My one complaint is that Unraveled is so damn good that I devoured it far too quickly. This is not a sweet uncomplicated romance, these pages contain a lot of dark subjects, so be prepared to shed a few tears. Highly recommended.
A wonderful beginning of an interesting series. I love happily ever afters and this one didn't disappoint me. It's difficult to grasp sometimes when people are raised in a culture very different than you to really understand them...get them. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sweet romance!
Unraveled was a refreshing new novel by Lisa-Marie Cabrelli. I loved the interactions between the characters. The author brings together people from two different worlds and makes the story funny and sweet.
Claire just got promoted by her boss, but in change she has to complete a impossible task. This leads Claire to Satish, the VP of IT.
Satish was doing right by his family by working hard to support his family back in India. And being the oldest son, Satish has certain obligations that had to be fulfilled. Satish did not know what was missing in his life until Claire came along.
I really enjoyed Claire & Satish's story. I also loved the people in Claire and Satish's lives that supported them. Especially Claire's best friend Sally and Maureen. A really good coming of age story that I highly recommend. I look forward to Maureen's story!!
I received an ARC by the author that I voluntarily reviewed.
This book was an engaging coming-of-age story. The heroine flounders in an abusive corporate job, attempting to save money to pursue her dream while maintaining her personal integrity...and falls in love along the way. The hero is an East Indian IT genius who struggles with the question of how much he owes his father--loyalty, obedience, his whole life?--and starts to think about what he deserves for himself, while his younger sister rebels against an arranged marriage and fights for independence and an education.
There were a few craft issues with the writing, but I give this book 4 1/2 stars.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. This was a great coming of age story. I loved the characters and the way their stories unfolded. I definitely recommend.
This book surprised me and I loved reading the viewpoint of both Satish and Claire. You could see them grown fond of each other and fall in love perfectly. I feel so close to them, I am so happy the author said they would appear in future books. Clean and very romantic book, also a quick read. I usually read books in between work, kids and homes, not fully grasping things but this book took hold of me and I have already started to re-read it. Looking forward to reading more about these Jersey girls!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Unraveled. Lots of good characters and plot development. I enjoyed the developing friendships and the ups and downs of those relationships. It added a very realistic quality to the book. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I must say I am very satisfied at the outcomes of of the storylines with several of the characters!
