4 Starting over with you Stars

"I wish I could forget about everything else and start over with you."-Vince

Taking Care of the Target is my first book by Cindi Madsen and I really enjoyed it. I haven't read very many mob base love stories so I was looking forward to something new. This book did a great job at capturing my attention from the start. Vince and Cassie were very endearing characters.

"Just so you know, Vince DaMarco, I see you. The real you. Even if you don't."-Cassie

Vince was sexy, protective, and a good guy. I loved that Vince was so protective of his brother and Cassie. I also loved that even though he was good he could be bad if that's what it took to protect the ones he loved. Cassie was quirky, charming, and cute. She was kinda shy maybe a little nerdy but so likable she really made this book.

His phone buzzed, and he glanced at it. Cassie: WTH are you doing? He grinned. Even with abbreviations, she went for the less-vulgar, sweeter version. Vince: Just enjoying the view, sweetheart Cassie: This is straight up crazy. I can't focus with you there. Go away. Vince: I will as soon as I see you safely to work. Unless he puts his hands on you. Then you'll see me a little sooner Through the window, he saw her glance down at her phone and shake her head. Surveillance just got more interesting. Another car would've been more discreet when it came to Cassie noticing, but if any of Carlo's boys passed by, they'd recognize his jeep and move on. So like it or not, she got his stalker personality. He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel for a moment and then lifted his phone and thumbed another text. Vince: You look hot by the way He started at his screen, nearly giving up on a reply when it chimed. Cassie: You and I are in a fight. Vince: This all could've been avoided if you'd just canceled Cassie: Fight!!!!

"I promise I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."-Vince

Vince and Cassie made a really cute couple. They had some major chemistry and a strong connection. I loved them both and I really thought their relationship was very sweet. I was rooting for them the whole way. Vince's brother Bobby was very likable. I loved how Cassie took to Bobby and was supportive of Vince helping his brother when he got in trouble. I hope Cindi Madsen writes a book for Bobby. The mob part of the book was interesting but not as much as Vince and Cassie's relationship. I really liked the flow of the book and for the most part I was hooked. There was just one thing I didn't like and it's the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 and that was the part of the book that Vince and Cassie were apart. I felt it was too long. There was just too many pages of reading where the couple I became invested in were not together and I just didn't want to read about it. Other than that I really loved the book and I will be reading more books by Cindi Madsen.

I'm never letting you go again." "Last time you said we'd start over and that you were mine, and then you left me. Just know that if you ever try that again..." She wrapped her arms around his neck and locked eyes with him. "Just don't, okay? My heart can't take it." "I won't, I swear. My life completely sucked without you, and I already had plans to find you, no matter what it took." He brushed his thumb across her bottom lip. "And for what it's worth, I never stopped being yours. I'll always be yours." A satisfied smile spread across her face. "I love you so much." "I love you, too. After this mess is over, we'll start over new. Together."-Vince and Cassie

SWEET & SEXY TIMES - WITH A MAFIA TWIST

This crazy good storyline kept me 'tapping' through the pages. A murder brings the H and h together, execution of the next planned murder will separate them for good. But how do you kill the one you are falling for?

Nearing the end of the first chapter, I was thinking, "No way!" By the last page of the same chapter, I was thinking, "Oh gracious sakes, this is going to be good! Cindi Madsen always writes an enjoyable, fairly tame and fun romance.

Cassie's coworker, Vince, drives her to utter distraction. She has the itch to flirt with him, but is way too shy and he is way out of her league. She is working her butt off as a waitress trying to pay off astronomical medical and funeral bills, but will soon find out those bills are the least of her worries.

Vince DaMarco is the perfect male specimen with brains to boot. Women of all ages become giggling idiots in his presence, but it is Cassie, the timid waitress, he is interested in. He is trying to keep his distance, knowing things would never work out between them. You see, his family dynamic is quite messed up as his uncle is a mafia boss, and while he has been able to stay out of the 'family' business, every now and again, he has to 'get his hands dirty' to keep his younger brother alive. But things are about to get very 'dirty' for Vince.

Rossi's Ristorante is a well established, family Italian restaurant, but the owner is heavily embroiled within the Mafia Family. Unfortunately, Cassie, who works as a waitress, opens the door to the back alley of the restaurant and witnesses her boss shoot a man in the head, and then turns the gun on her. While running for her life, she is hit by a truck and ends up in the hospital and also numero uno on the mobs hit list. And Vince, yep, it is his job to silence her!

"There was just no way this was going to end well."

Taking Care of the Target by Cindi Madsen was a good read.

The storyline had me staying up late into the night until I finished.
Vince and Cassie were likable, endearing, relatable characters. I loved watching their friendship turn into love. I loved how protective Vince was with Cassie. These two had a beautiful, supportive and strong connection.
And their chemistry was smoking!

If you are not willing to risk it all, then you don’t want it bad enough.

Every time I meet a new-to-me or new author’s book, it’s a high, a dive into unknown territory. Trying something new is a risk but reward, a challenge and adventure. The utter pleasure I get when I meet a new or new-to-me author’s words is BOOKWORM BLISS! That rush during that initial read is off-the-charts incredible! I met my first book by Cindi Madsen and it was a doubly-delicious high: new-to-me author plus romance thriller. Taking Care of the Target is a pulse-pounding, heart-hitting, rush of a romance that dangles you on the edge, and leaves you aching for more.

Taking Care of the Target began as a slow burn that built into a raging inferno of excitement where I could not turn the pages fast enough. Energy flowing through me like electricity where I could not help but be engaged. The powerful and perilous plot combined with lots of dialogue needed for a third-person point-of-view story along compelling characters kept me highly tuned and trembling with excitement.

This mafia romance gripped me hard, holding me in its clutches, where I was captivated until the end. Mind racing. Bated breathing. Heart beating out of my chest. Pulse pounding with each page. Taking Care of the Target was the adrenaline that made me feel ALIVE. I chased this high from start to finish; I WAS ALL IN!

Beautiful Cassie Dalton with her blonde hair, green eyes, fair skin, pink glasses, and curves in the right places rocks the girl next door-hot librarian look well. A waitress and student, this sweet gal has had the life of hell with a painful past. Starting over in a new city with no friends is never easy. Starting over in a new city where she possibly works for the mafia is not easy at all, especially when one of the members is so hot it makes her combustible. Starting over is even harder when Cassie witnesses a hit she shouldn’t have, then is hit by a car, and is suddenly a wanted woman with the mafia…a rough start to a new life indeed.

Tall, dark, and handsome with muscles and ink, Vince DaMarco, runs a restaurant though owned by his mob boss uncle. Vince doesn’t want any part of the family business and tries to walk the straight and narrow, focusing on the restaurant, instead of the behind-the-scenes criminal activity. Now his uncle wants to initiate him into his mob family with taking a hit on the beautiful waitress who he can’t help but like and want.

"Of all people, why did it have to be Cassie?"

Cassie doesn’t remember the handsome stranger who is suddenly in her life, the man who was a part of the mob but still a good guy. Vince doesn’t want to take a hit on the sweet girl who has been the star of his hot librarian fantasies a few times, and can’t help but like what he sees…inside and out.

"I can be very persistent. I play dirty, too."

Vince is all male and his dirty words made me smolder from head to toe. I LOVED this amazing alpha from the start! He may be the adventure that Cassie needs but first she will have to break through the barriers of his heart.

"Hopefully he'll eventually realize he can let me all the way in."

Lines are crossed and neither expected an inferno of an attraction to be so blinding.

"I've always tried to keep people as a distance, but you broke through, and now I'm a mess."

Cassie may be the first person to see the real man with a kind heart, the man who is holding her heart, underneath the tough guy exterior.

"Just so you know, Vince DaMarco, I see you. The real you. Even if you don't."

Vince is used to control in all things. Never has a woman made him want to lose control until Cassie. Vince wants to protect Cassie though he is supposed to end her.

"I wanted to protect you, but I also just...wanted you."

Cassie is falling for Vince, the gorgeous man who protects her with his life. She sees the heart of gold beating in her knight-in-shining armor.

"Like it or not, you're a good guy, Vince DaMarco."

What started as a mere and mutual crush now is a hit to the heart, but with a mafia hit out on Cassie that Vince is supposed to deliver or else risk his life and hers, life is a hot mess and someone is going to go down in the end. How can you kill the one with whom you are falling hard?

"I wish I could forget about everything else and start over with you."

Taking Care of the Target is a moving mafia romance that is achingly addictive, deliciously dangerous and sugary sweet. A fusion of hope, heartbreak, and happiness swirled around in my head like a hurricane, waiting to hit where they would flood…all over this book…all over me. Taking Care of the Target was a beginning-to-end high, and I loved every toe-curling minute!

This forbidden and furious rush of a romance electrified and entranced me. Taking Care of the Target danced with danger and hypnotized with heart. Go target this romance now!

What a great Mob romance story! Vince and Cassie are truly an amazing book couple and both are very relatable characters in my opinion, especially Cassie! And Vince DaMarco, whew, sexy yet potentially dangerous...what more can you ask for in a book hero?

It was also far from predictable and didn't seem to follow the typical romance novel storyline, which makes this book truly a breath of fresh air!

Will definitely be adding this to my future re-read pile !

Being a fan of Cindi Madsen books it was a no brainer to review this book. It is a bit different form her normal sweet loving books, being a romantic suspense.

But it is just as good as all her other book I read.

I really enjoyed the story, the characters, the romance and of course the suspense.

It was very entertaining and interesting to follow Cassie and Vince along. They made a great couple ever with some lies between them but seeing them maybe work it out and survive was great.

Taking Care of the Target is an addictive page turner.

I’m not one to fall for mafia guys, but Vince DaMarco had me the moment he showed up on the page. From the time he was a late teen, Vince and his younger brother, Bobby, were raised by his uncle, Mafia Crime Boss Carlo Rossi. Carlo has always wanted Vince to join the “family business”, but Vince has always insisted on running the legitimate business, the family restaurant, Rossi’s Ristorante. However, Vince has been known to cross the business line when he has to work off whatever trouble Bobby finds himself in.

Cassie Dalton has been struggling for years. Her mother died when she was young and her father passed away a few years ago, leaving her with a mountain of medical bills. She finally has a chance to go to college and this takes her from her small town in Colorado to Trenton, New Jersey. To make ends meet she gets a waitressing job at Rossi’s Ristorante. The added bonus is being able to see Vince DaMarco on a daily basis. She even agrees to work extra shifts with the hopes of one day getting on his radar and having him just maybe ask her out.

Cassie’s dream finally comes true, when she agrees to come in on her day off to be hostess. Vince and Cassie strike up a playful conversation which ends in a bet for the loser to buy dinner. Unfortunately, the date never happens. Cassie accidentally witnesses a mob hit in the alley behind the restaurant and flees. In doing so, she gets hit by a truck. The resulting fallout is that now Carlo wants her dead. Vince offers to take care of her by planning on getting her away to safety and out of Carlo’s reach. But what no one knows is that Cassie doesn’t remember the murder or the last two years of her life.

Vince sets out on a cat and mouse game to protect the one woman he wants but knows he can’t have. While Vince attempts to get close to Cassie and keep her safe, little does he know that police and the FBI are circling. Not only does he find himself trying to keep Cassie safe but also himself after he gets a target placed on his back.

There is so much to love about Taking Care of the Target. As characters, both Vince and Cassie are great. Cassie has this ability to see the good in people and she makes Vince want to be a better person. When their backs are up against the wall, they both find the courage and determination to do the right thing, no matter what the cost is. The shoot’em up action scenes were incredible. The bond that formed between Vince and Cassie was one of love and friendship. The secondary characters help to make the story complete, adding villains, compassion, friendship, and support.

I found myself on the edge of my seat through a lot of the story. Taking Care of the Target ranks up there with Melissa Cutler’s ICE Black Ops series and Leslie McKelvey's Accidental Affair. I loved those books and years later, they still rank as my favorite romantic suspense novels. Cindi Madsen has written a story that is easy to visualize.

This is my first read by this author and I did like the story of Cassie and Vince. In this story we have Cassie working as a waitress at an Italian restaurant. Vince is the manager at the Italian restaurant that she work with and ends up liking him a lot. Unfortunately for her, she witnesses a murder and Vince is ordered to take her out. Wile Cassie is fleeing from the scene when she is hit by car and develops amnesia. Vince realizes that no matter what the order was, he could never hurt Cassie, the woman he was falling in love with. This was a likable read but it did slow down in some places and then picked backed up. It took me some time to finish as the pacing was not that steady. All in all not a bad read and Vince and Cassie get their HEA. 3.5 stars

Great book with a fantastic storyline. A page turner that keeps you interested.

Cassie has worked at Rossi's for a while now and gone to school as well, it's taken her longer because of her father's medical bills but she's trying. She has a huge crush on Vince, the manager, and the owner's nephew.

One day while working there she sees something she isn't supposed to and has an accident that takes her memory away. Vince is watching out for her which gives him time to get to know her. Then the fireworks start.

Will they be able to be together or will what she saw end any possibility?

Oh my word what an awesome story. I loved it. Finished it in one day.
This book had drama, suspense, murder, mafia ties and so much more stuff it was Awesome

Cassie Dalton works in a Italian restaurant to pay her bills and she's studying part time. Unbeknown to her the place she works at is actually a front for the mob. But whenever any of her classmates suggested it she always defended the owner because he was always nice to her. Until the night she witnesses a murder in the back of the restaurant. She tries to run but gets knocked over by a truck and loses her memory. And she has just been put on the mobs hit list

Vince DaMarco works as the manager at his uncle's restaurant and has always been attracted to Cassie but he's never made a move on her because she was too nice and he didn't want to drag her into his family's world
But now that she's placed on his Uncle's hit list he volunteers to kill her. So what does he do, he gets close to her and falls more in love with her than he thought he would be

So what does he do now, keep her safe, keep her away from his family. Run away with her start a new life or join his family's business, send her away and keep her safe that way? And how to handle it all with a brother that keeps pulling him back into the world that he is trying desperately to escape.

This book was so surprising, I didn't expect any of this. Because I didn't read the blurb, lol. But I was surprised by how much Vince wanted out of his family business and wanted something different. And all it took was one shy waitress to make him see what he wants the most in his life.

Definitely an awesome read and man I can't wait to see if Bobby will get a story!!

This was such an exciting book! I loved the action, the suspense, the forbidden romance...it was gripping and hard to put down.

Cassie Dalton is a shy, unassuming waitress when she is the accidental witness to a murder by the mafia. In her attempt to escape, she runs out into the road and is hit by a car. When she comes to, she has no memory of the last few years and muddles through day by day without knowing what she missed. Vince DaMarco is the mob boss's nephew and in love with Cassie. When his uncle calls for her to die, Vince knows he is the only one who can save her. Running from the FBI, who wants her as a witness, and the mob, who wants her in a grave, they move farther away from home and towards a very uncertain future.

I loved the chemistry between Cassie and Vince! It was really sweet how he didn't take advantage of her memory loss to make his move. It actually took quite some time for the sexy times to begin, and I found it both romantic and refreshing. Vince was a very confused character, at times wanting to be clean and stay out of mafia business, and at others he was calling cops pigs and explaining away his own past brushes with the law. Fighting between loyalty to his family and loyalty to the woman he loved was sad to read about, but I think the author did a great job. Cassie was a sweetheart and almost too good to be true for Vince. Virtually no flaws in her, which can sometimes be irritating but was welcome in her.

I look forward to reading more books by this author! Very enjoyable read, with an exciting plot and relatable characters.

I really enjoyed reading ‘Taking Care of the Target’ by Cindi Madsen. The story of Vince and Cassie was one of friendship that developed into something much more. With amazing characters that such as Vince and Cassie that you could actually relate to it was hard not to get sucked into this great read.

This book wasn’t your typical Mob story and it was never predictable which I definitely loved. There was great suspense going on while Vince was trying to keep Cassie safe after she witnesses something she shouldn’t have. Vince’s protectiveness and determination to make sure Cassie was safe only made him that much sexier. With everything going on with the Mob, FBI and shoot outs you would think that the romance could get lost in it all but Cindi Madsen manages to keep you invested in the tale of Vince and Cassie and the will they won’t they make it.

With determination and a bond formed by Vince and Cassie while all this was going on is to me is what really makes the story. They are great characters that you find yourself rooting for and it was surprising and interesting to have a mob story about someone who didn’t actually want to be involved with the mob and was trying his best to stay clear of it. The drama and suspense has you on the edge of your seat while Vince especially has your heart melting. This was definitely a job well done by Cindi Madsen and I can’t wait to read more from her.

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Cassie Dalton was just doing her job and ends up in the hospital with short term memory loss. She can't remember what led her to run into the street and get hit by a truck and if she does, she is as good as dead. Enter Vince DaMarco. He is the restaurant manager where Cassie works and the nephew of the man who wants to make sure Cassie doesn't remember what she saw. Vince has always liked Cassie and can't stand the thought of anyone hurting her, so he offers to take care of it. When he realized that she has no memory of what happened, he doesn't kill her, but inserts himself in her life so he will know as soon as she does. Everyone pretty much loves Cassie and they don't want to hurt her, but that is how things work in their world.

I really enjoyed this book. I like to think of Vince as a (sort of) mobster with a heart of gold. He genuinely cares about Cassie (always has) and doesn't want to see her hurt. Of course as he spends time with her, his feelings grow. He wants to protect her. He needs to protect her. And the Cassie that wakes up after the accident is a more bold Cassie. When she "meets" Vince, she immediately takes a liking to him and accepts his friendship, no questions asked.

I enjoyed Vince & Cassie's relationship. Yes, it was a bit unconventional, but it came from a great place. They genuinely liked each other before everything happened, but Cassie was a bit shy and Vince was hesitant to get involved considering his line of work and family connections. But circumstances are now different and the two of them together makes sense.

Cassie grabbed Vince’s arm and pulled him back to the sidewalk. “So, how was your day?” she asked, throwing as much sarcasm into her words as she could.

“Productive. Yours?”

“Sucky. And then I come outside and find you being a total caveman. Was it really necessary to haul him halfway out of the car like that?”

“Yes.” He put his hand on her back and guided her into the Jeep.

She wasn’t sure how to feel about dating a Neanderthal, but she had to admit she felt pretty damn safe.

Well, she’d admit it to herself. Vince didn’t need encouragement. When they pulled up to her apartment complex, Vince kept the engine running. “I told you from the beginning I wasn’t the do-gooder type and that my life was messy,” he said. “I’m not denying it. But I do know how to take care of problems, even if my methods are a little—”

“Archaic? Caveman-esque? Crazy pants?”

His eyebrows drew low over his eyes. “I was going to say unconventional.”

She shook her head. “Unconventional barely scrapes the surface of describing you.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever used the term crazy pants, either.”

A laugh slipped out before Cassie clamped her lips shut.

“Did I screw it up?” Vince asked, imploring her with those brown eyes she had such a hard time resisting.

“I think…” His intense gaze and the way it made her heart hammer her rib cage made it hard to get words to come out right. She cleared her throat. “Well, I think security is a good field for you. And honestly, I would’ve died that night we were shot at if you hadn’t been there, and it’s good to know I wasn’t just paranoid, thinking someone was following me.”

“But?”

Cassie swallowed hard. The truth was, Vince terrified her. Not because she was scared he’d hurt her—not physically, anyway. Emotionally, though? She already relied on him too much, and she’d opened up to him more than she ever had with anyone else. She was starting to fall for him, and she didn’t think she could simply recover from a guy like Vince. Their vast differences made her wonder if they were crazy to even attempt a relationship. But the other option was ending things, and the thought of that made her lungs constrict.

She ran her fingertip down the muscled line of his forearm. “But maybe we should try a little harder to have days not involving bullets or pulling people out of cars.”

A lopsided smile spread across his face. “And I could trust your judgment a little more?”

“Exactly. No demanding I have to wait for you to pick me up. And how about just ask guys why they’re following me before threatening them.”

“People are so much more motivated to answer that way, though.”

Cassie raised an eyebrow at him.

He held up his hands. “Okay. For you, I’ll try a little less…archaic methods. Are you happy?”

She nodded. “Skeptical, but happy.”

“Smart girl,” he said. “Now, did you eat? Because as much as I love watching you cook, I think I owe you dinner out. Somewhere nice.”

“Do I get to change first?”

“Like any good apology dinner bribe, you get whatever you want.”

She started out of the Jeep, then abruptly turned back and put her hand on the side of his face. “Just so you know, Vince DaMarco, I see you. The real you. Even if you don’t.”

*sigh* I just LOVED them.

Putting aside the whole "Vince is supposed to kill Cassie" thing, they were so great together. Cassie post accident was so brave and direct in what she wanted and while that surprised Vince, he welcomed it. Cassie was a strong, badass woman and she proved it time and time again. But this book is not all about their relationship. There is plenty of action to keep things moving. Who doesn't love a little shoot 'em up, mob related romance once in a while? This book is different from Cindi's previous books and I hope she writes more like it.

Great! Excellent storyline that kept me guessing throughout. Liked the characters a lot, but find it hard to believe they actually managed to pull off escaping from such a strong syndicate.

Awesom story and great suspense

Well where do I start? This is the first book I have read by this author and it was really good. At first it was a little hard for me to read and really get into with the way it was written, but once I kept going and really got into it I couldn't put it down. The book is about a college girl named Cassandra and a mobsters nephew, Vince. Cassandra is in college taking classes trying to figure out what she wants to do in life while, Vince manages his uncles resturant not wanting anything to do with the mob business. While not knowing about the mob side and working for Vince's uncles family resturant, Cassandra, aka Cassie witnesses something tragic and basically takes off in a panic running for her life. Only Cassie doesn't get away to great and ends up running straight in front of a truck, getting hit severely. Cassie ends up in the hospital for many weeks with memory loss and no remembrance of what happens.

Where does a slightly paranoid, trying-to-get-over-her-shyness—and oh, yeah, amnesia—waitress go to make friends?

Since the day Cassie meet Vince she had a crush on him but was so quiet and shy to really say anything. But one thing Cassie didn't know was Vince felt the same way towards her but was always to afraid to say something worrying because of his uncle a mob boss and what could happen. Well thankfully after the accident and everything Vince decides to step in and offers to take out Cassie since his uncle fears she might talk to the police. He claims he wants it done quick because she's really a sweet and innocent girl and doesn't want it dragged out or her being tortured by anyone else. Really what Vince wants to do is protect her at all cost.

The door opened, and she glanced toward it… then did a double take. The guy had a ball cap pulled low, making it hard to see his eyes, but the dark stubble on his jaw, the nearly black hair peeking out from the hat, and the large biceps displayed by his form-fitting T-shirt made her very bare legs go wobbly on her. Holy hotness, Batman.

Cassie: WTH are you doing? He grinned. Even with abbreviations, she went for the less-vulgar, sweeter version. Vince: Just enjoying the view, sweetheart Cassie: This is straight up crazy. I can’t focus with you there. Go away. Vince: I will as soon as I see you safely to work. Unless he puts his hands on you. Then you’ll see me a little sooner Through the window, he saw her glance down at her phone and shake her head. Surveillance just got more interesting. Another car would’ve been more discreet when it came to Cassie noticing, but if any of Carlo’s boys passed by, they’d recognize his Jeep and move on. So like it or not, she got his stalker personality. He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel for a moment and then lifted his phone and thumbed another text. Vince: You look hot by the way He stared at his screen, nearly giving up on a reply when it chimed. Cassie: You and I are in a fight. Vince: This all could’ve been avoided if you’d just canceled Cassie: FIGHT!!!! “Ah, shit.”

Thankfully his uncle slightly cares on her death being quick, and agrees to let Vince handle it. Only to find out not everything is going to go as wanted.

"Just so you know, Vince DaMarco, I see you. The real you. Even if you don't."

So I, say let the suspense begin and hold on tight, because this is one book that will really pull you in having you holding on tight till the very end, and for me, I'm thinking I just might have to check out what other books this author has to offer.

“Oh, come on. We’ve still got to have a little excitement now and then.” Cassie leaned in and brushed her lips across his before kissing him square on the mouth. “Well, that’s what I’m keeping you around for.”

•••••

REVIEW: TAKING CARE OF THE TARGET by Cindi Madsen is a stand alone, romantic suspense story focusing on waitress Cassie Dalton, and restaurant manager Vince DaMarco.

Vince is the nephew of one of New Jersey’s mob bosses but refuses to get involved in the ‘illegal’ side of the business. His attraction to waitress Cassie Dalton finds our hero battling his allegiance to the family, and his need to protect Cassie when a shake down goes wrong. Cassie will be the prime witness in a murder but an accident will leave our heroine without any memory, and Vince DaMarco is sent to ensure that Cassie doesn’t survive to testify. What ensues is the relationship between Cassie and Vince, and Vince’s struggle to keep Cassie one step ahead of the mob.

The relationship between Cassie and Vince is slow to build as Vince is all about protecting the woman with whom he is falling in love. Vince has been ordered to kill Cassie before her memory returns but our hero finds himself Cassie’s personal security fearing his uncle will call in someone else to finish the job. Cassie is unaware of her previous friendship with Vince, and Vince has yet to tell Cassie the truth. The attraction between Cassie and Vince is palpable; their chemistry is intense; the $ex scenes are mostly implied.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Vince’s troubled brother Bobby, and their uncle Carlo Rossi. We are introduced to a number of friends, law enforcement, acquaintances, employees, and members of the Rossi crime family-most of whom are very loyal to Carlo Rossi.

TAKING CARE OF THE TARGET is a slow building story line as Vince struggles between duty and love. The premise is suspenseful; the characters are dynamic and colorful; the romance is emotional and passionate. TAKING CARE OF THE TARGET is a spirited and intimate look at two people whose lives are thrown together by circumstance and the mob.

Good one Cindi Madsen!! ;)

I was very excited about Taking Care of the Target, the plot sounded very different from what I would expect from Cindi so I was very curious and I think the result was great, a book that has romance but there's also action and intrigue. Plus if you're a fan of Cindi's book you can't miss this.

Our main character Cassie, works at an Italian restaurant , she's very shy, she doesn't really have friends and is just by herself since her father died. She's very shy, she also has a big crush on her coworker Vince Da Marco, but whenever he's near her she becomes really nervous, so flirting with him seems something impossible. But the day they find themselves talking, even flirting is the day that will change her life. Oblivious to her, the restaurant serves as a front for a mob boss, who just happens to be Vince's uncle. Cassie witness a murder and in trying to escape suffers an accident and wakes up days later in a hospital with no recollection of what happened.

While he may be the nephew of a mob, Vince doesn't want anything to do with world. He has tried to keep his distance from Cassie, even though he has always liked her, but being who he is, who his family is, he doesn't want to risk getting to close. When his uncle wants to get rid of Cassie for fear of her speaking against him to the cops, Vince can't stay still and let them making her suffer so he volunteers to take care of it, but when he finds her and he discovers she has lost her memory, all the plans he had start to change, then he also starts spending time with her, he wants to keep her safe, and although he cares for her, he doesn't expect to fall in love.

Ok before I fangirl over Vince I have to say I loved the relationship between him and Cassie. While they do feel attracted to each other, it's not insta-love, and even when Cassie loses her memory Vince doesn't try to take advantage of it, he's actually very noble about it. I mean yes, he lies of who he is, but his need and desire to keep this girl he likes so much safe was just very endearing, and on that note yes I will say that I love Vince, because he was caring, protective, romantic too and he also has a bit of a bad boy so it's a perfect combo. Cassie was very sweet too, she's shy but she tries and wants to be more outgoing, quite likable.
We also have more characters introduced in the story, which I liked and it also works to make the story richer.

I would say there's some slow building in the story, and this helps keep the reader engaged. Also there was a point that made me suffer a lot, I think you'd know what it is if you read it, but that made me want to read faster because I was like: no way Cindi Madsen! you can't do this to me! so yeah hahaha I got a bit intense but I knew she would deliver. So yes, Taking Care of the Target was a great book and I'd absolutely recommend it!

This was a very interesting mix of suspense, romance, and comedy. You see Cassie Dalton is an older college student than most because she had a sick father to nurse through cancer. When he lost his battle, she wanted to fulfill his dying wish for her to go to college. When she did she received a partial scholarship from New Jersey. So, she packed up and moved from Colorado to start anew.
She needed to work in order to make ends meet so she applied everywhere. But it was Mr. Rossi at Rossi’s Italian Restaurant that was will to give the new girl in town a chance. He hired her to waitress and worked with her schedule. Or should I say he had his nephew Vince DaMarco work with it. Mrs. Rossi didn’t like her because she wasn’t Italian and you know you can’t trust anyone that isn’t Italian or family, right?
Vince at first just didn’t like the idea that his uncle had hired anyone that he didn’t know about since the restaurant was his baby to deal with. Vince was the Manager and the one who actually ran the day to day operation of the restaurant.
He thought his uncle had probably only hired some Italian floozy. He was so surprised to find this sweet blonde, green eyed, librarian, with glasses and fifty-watt smile. His heart beat double time. Yet, he knew nothing could ever come of it for his uncle was a made man and the head of the mafia.
Although he himself wanted not part of it his uncle kept trying to pull him in by using his younger brother, Bobby, as leverage since he is a junkie that he had to keep bailing out. His uncle kept them both under the family umbrella so to speak. Which meant Bobby at least wouldn’t be harmed, as in killed. In turn meaning Vince owing his uncle.
Cassie at the same time was pining over Vince. Thinking about him 24/7. Knowing she never stood a chance when she saw all the beautiful Italian woman that flirted with him. Yet, she couldn’t help out daydreaming.
One day she sees something she wishes she hadn’t. Putting her life in danger. Fleeing the scene as a bullet wheezes by her she flies through the restaurant and out into the street where she’s hit by a car. When she wake’s she’s lost two years of her life and has a new cop as a friend. As well as a feeling of always being watched.
Although you know in the real-world Vince would never go against a direct order given by a mob boss relative or not and lived. The story is fun and exciting. A fast read. The bantering between Cassie and Vince is enjoyable and funny. The relationship formed between her and Bobby, I just love. It’s so endearing and real. The Tulsa family with Maude, cracked me up doesn’t everyone need a Maude? I give this a 5 star. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at:

This is August's book of the month for the Low Angst romance reading group.

The plot book promised much emotional tension and drama, and it delivered.

So much of the book is from the hero Vince's perspective, because a lot of this has to do with his perceptions of Cassie, the heroine, before she witnessed a mob hit, right before her accident occurred, and after she was hit by a truck once she ran from the scene of the crime. The accident left her with amnesia, though. Because she has amnesia, he knows more than he is telling her. On some level, that part of the story was a bit creepy.

Vince had always been attracted to the Cassie, but nothing ever happened. But now that she has witnessed the hit conducted by this uncle, Carlo Rossi, a mob boss, there is pressure on him to kill her, plus there are other members of the mob enterprise who have no qualms about doing so. Thus, he befriends her, and saves her from assassination attempts by other members of the mob eager to curry favor with his uncle.

Cassie had always been attracted as well, and their relationship goes smoothly otherwise.

Vince is torn, not only because he is interested in her romantically, but because she is innocent. Her witnessing the hit was innocent as well, and after the accident, she had no memory of what happened. In addition, he has always had an uneasy relationship with his family's legacy as mobsters. He always preferred the family's legitimate business, managing the family's restaurant, but his brother's drug addiction and drug dealing has always dragged him in and left him vulnerable to his uncle's machinations.

Vince is an interesting mix of a sensitive, caring, and protective man, at the same time he has gangster instincts, from his upbringing, and his brief stint when he was younger and working as an enforcer for his uncle. But now, his uncle wants him to be his right hand man, but Vince is unwilling.

I spent a good bit of time wondering when Cassie was going to get back her memory. Once she did, the action picked up, because the hero really had to walk a dangerous tight rope: taking care of her, making sure she is safe, at the same time he had to pacify his uncle that he is an obedient insider. His uncle could kill either one of them in an instant or hire assassins to to the job.

She had no choice but to trust him, although she was angered at what she saw as his manipulation.

In the end, something had to give, or they both will die, and that is when their happily ever after could occur. He sent her away and then became a government informant, since one aspect of the plot included the efforts of various law enforcement agents seeking to take down the Rossi crime family. Each testifies at the trial, and the uncle is found guilty. They then moved away and began their life together.

***** 5 Cranky Stars *****

Wowzers!!!!!!! I found a new Sexy Alpha Male Mafia Member to crush on. Vincent is one delicious morsel of hotness that woman want to lick like their favorite piece of Chocolate. Unfortunately, he is part of a mafia family. All he wants to do is run the family restaurant legally and keep on the right side of the law.

Vincent feels like he is obligated to his uncle for being there for him and his brother Bobby. His Uncle took him and his brother in when their parents died. Vincent ends up doing a few things for his Mafia family but not because he wants to. Vincent does it to keep on his Uncles good side so his Uncle will
Keep helping him with his brothers problems.

Cassie is shy, sweet, cute, and adorkable. Every time Vincent comes around her, Cassie starts stuttering and blushes. It frustrates her that she turns into a teenager who is fanning over her celebrity crush.

Cassie sees something that she should have never witnessed and runs for her life. She wakes up in the hospital with a concussion and realizes she can't remember the last couple of years of her life. She gets out of the hospital to continue her life as normal as possible.

Cassie remembers her past and all of the tragedies that she has faced head on.
She remembers her father dying of cancer and holding his hand through it all. She finds out where she used to work at and has an anxiety attack when she nears the place. She can't remember why but gets a bad feeling that her life is in danger.

It is hard to describe anymore of the book without giving away any spoilers. The sexual chemistry between Vincent and Cassie sizzles. This is one of those books that the Author does a good job of keeping the readers interest and wanting more. I hope the Author plans on writing a book about Bobby. It would be intriguing at the least to see how the Author spins the storyline.

I can't wait to read more of her books.

Taking Care of the Target starts like any romance book. Cassie is working as a waitress to pay for college and the debts her father's illness left her. While waiting tables is not the best job, her boss makes up for the bad pay. Vince is the restaurant manager his uncle owns. But while that is the part of the family bussiness he loves, he also has to participate in the no so legal parts... His uncle is a mafia boss and won't let Vince off so easily.
These two like each other from afar, Vince knowing Cassie is too good for him, and Cassie thinking he's way too out of her league. But one night changes everything, Cassie watches someone being murder outside the restaurant and when she tries to run she gets hit by a truck. The accident gives amnesia, but the mafia needs to make sure she will stay quiet.
When Vince goes to take care of Cassie and realises she doesn't remember a thing he decides to make sure she stays safe from his family but the atraction between them is impossible to deny.

I loved this book!! It's something new from Cindi Madsen and she didn't dissapoint. I got caught up in Cassie's story from the first chapter and couldn't put the book down. There are twist and turns along the way that keep you at the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.

Watching Cassie fall for Vince again after her accident was great. The slow build of their relaship was a nice contrast to the intensity of the mob being after Cassie and the police after the mob dinamic.

Cassie is a sweet and shy character, but she develops so well in the story. And Vince strugle is palpable while he balances between duty and loyalty to his family and his love for Cassie.

Taking Care of the Target is the perfect romantic suspence to curl up on the weekend, because you won't be able to put the book down.

Taking Care of the Target was a thrilling story that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Cassie's finding her groove again after losing her father, she's in school working towards a future career and working as a waitress as well to keep up with paying her bills. When she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time, namely witnessing a murder, she finds herself in serious danger - but then promptly forgets about it when she's hit by a truck.

Vince always liked Cassie, and if he didn't have to deal with his screwed up family and the ties that connect him to their questionable practices, he'd have probably asked her out. But when she witnesses a criminal act and his family needs to be sure to quiet her, Vince finds himself volunteering for the job, he tells himself its so that he can ensure it's a quick painless death, but really there's more to it then that.

I was pulled into the story from the first moment, sucked into the swirling danger and connection between these two people. As I read, I wondered what tactics Vince would use next to keep his uncle off the scent of his real reasoning for wanting this task and also I kept waiting for Cassie to remember what happened before the accident.

I really liked the angle of the bad guy, the hitman doing all he could to NOT actually kill his target. It was curious how things would work out for both of them. As their friendship grows, so does the deeper connection between them, calling into question just how this situation is going to last, how things can ever work out.

Taking Care of the Target is the perfect blend of drama, suspense, danger, and steam. The characters were likable and thorougly sucked me into the story.

Will Vince step up to the plate and join his uncle or will he have other plans?

Vince and Cassie have a strong connection and the chemistry between them is steamy. Danger lurks around every corner and Vince is running out of options to keep his uncle away.
