Funny way to learned about William Shakespeare's work and life, but this book is for teens and I read this when I worked as a teacher at a middle-grade school and discovered this book at the school's library. I learned many things about Shakespeare' private life, the theater at England during Sheakespeare' life and his contribution for England's and the world's culture.

It is hard to review this book without mentioning "Horrible Histories."
The style is very similar but this does to into more detail about what we know and don't know about Shakespeare.
It is easy to read and informative. It gives extra details about a few of his plays and the time he lived in too.
I would recommend this as an accompaniment to Shakespeare's work to those just starting to learn about him.

This was a really fun and easy to read introduction to Shakespeare's life and work - including a summary of the controversy on whether he actually wrote the plays or whether they were written by someone else. It gives a great look into life into the Elizabethan era and a summary of several plays. It has lots of fun facts about Shakespeare's life and all the words he introduced into the English language.

Kiedy czytałam ją, będąc młodsza, byłam nią zachwycona. Teraz uważam, że to zwykła książka dla dzieci, choć, oczywiście pełna humoru, z cudownymi ilustracjami i potężną dawką wiedzy. Sama zapomniałam wielu rzeczy, innych nie wiedziałam i doceniam, że przypomniała mi je ta książka. Jest interesująca, a język z całą pewnością nie jest infantylny. Doceniam czarny humor, ale brakło mi więcej quizów i zagadek, które są tak charakterystyczne dla książek z tej serii.

শেক্সপিয়রের মতো এমন গুরুগম্ভীর বিষয়, অনার্স পড়ার তিনটি বছর ধরে তাঁকে নিয়ে এত জটিল সব প্রবন্ধ পড়েছি, কিন্তু এত সহজ ভাষায় তাঁকে এভাবে পাবো ভাবিনি। পড়তে পড়তে মনে হচ্ছিল যেন উইলিয়ম শেক্সপিয়র আমার পাশের বাড়ির দাদু, তিনি মারা যেতে ওঁর গল্প শুনছি। গোটা বইটা সহজ ইংরেজিতে লেখা আর সঙ্গে নানা রকমের প্যারোডি করা ইলাস্ট্রেশন। কী বকছি কিছু বুঝছেন না। তাই তো? আসুন, অধ্যায় অনুযায়ী বিশ্লেষণ করি কী কী আছে বইটায়।
Introduction: যাঁরা জানেননা শেক্সপিয়র কে(যদিও এমন লোক খুব কমই আছে বলে আমার বিশ্বাস), তাঁদের জন্য অল্প কথায় তাঁর ব্যাপারে বলা আছে।

Well, I'm on a bit of a Shakespeare roll right now. We've been studying Much Ado About Nothing in lit class and I just went to a university lecture on Romeo and Juliet so I'm interested in anything that will give me some insight and any useful resources that I can pass to my students.
If you haven't read a Dead Famous book, you should. They are a lot of fun. This was my first in the series and I think I will probably pick up a few more. If the others are like this, I can say they are filled with interesting facts and funny cartoons. It takes history and makes it an enjoyable read. It is a quick 176 pages and you will enjoy most of it if you are interested in Will and the time in which he lived. I highly recommend it for anybody who is studying the plays.
BTW, I felt this book had the potential to get 4 or even 5 stars, but it got away from what it was doing well and created filler to make up quite a few pages. For example, I don't think the book needs a lot of the play summaries (especially the history plays) and it shouldn't have wasted so many pages on the authorship question. That said, the good stuff is great and well worth reading. With a little more effort, Donkin could have made this fabulous! Anyway, you are still going to enjoy it- especially if you are one of my lit students.
I'm going to give this book 3.5/5 stars.

One of the simplest biographies of one of the most famous personalities of the world. There has always been an unsaid gap between Shakespeare and I. His plays were famous but I hardly knew anything about either the playwright or his works. All I knew was that he is said to be the greatest of all times.
This book, finally, bridged the gap between us and introduced me to Shakespeare in the easiest possible way. Light humour, liberal use of anecdotes, detailed description and interesting sketches only add to the joy of reading it.

A YA book designed to teach kids about Shakespeare life, career, and works. It has a number of inaccuracies and reasonable guesses presented not as reasonable guesses, but as facts. It occasionally finds significance in these non-facts. The book is entertaining and well done in every way, except factual, but the facts matter.

My preteen daughter got it from school library and I got so much hooked to it that I got it reissued.
A wonderfully written book, the best introduction the kids can have to the greatest writer of all the times. Even adults can learn a few interesting facts.
Perfect read for a rainy day.

Hilarious!!
What with the true stories and the not-too-true ones, and may-be-true-may-be-not "our Will's diary", readers are brought back to Shakespeare's time, free to enjoy the rigors and fun of theater's life (^,^)

The lifestory of Shakespeare written in very interesting style, it contains lots of very great and funny pictures and also description of his most known works.

Probably the simplest biography about Shakespeare! It really taught me a lot about him and everything he did in a non boring way, full of funny comments and little drawings.
