Brooke is a twenty-nine year old detective from Oxford, who has her life pretty much planned out until her boss and partner of nine years, Maria, tells her their relationship is over. Unaware that her relationship was failing, she is completely broken-hearted and guilt-ridden, believing the reason Maria has left is due to the accident at work nine months earlier. When Brooke finds out the truth, that Maria cheated on her with their best friend Paula, she decides to get her life back on track by getting away for six weeks in Anglesey, North Wales. Chloe, a thirty three year old artist and art director, owns a log cabin on Anglesey where she spends each weekend painting and surfing. After returning from a surf, she stumbles upon the somewhat uptight and enigmatic Brooke. Chloe feels something is hidden behind those beautiful blue eyes, and makes it her mission to take the girl under her wing, helping her through whatever has brought her all the way there.
S.L. Gape is a thirty something Lesfic author who enjoys writing, cooking, travelling and photography. She lives in Cheshire with her partner Jen, and currently splits her time between writing and her day job in Human Resources.
Brooke's once secure world is suddenly shaken to its very core. Desperate and not knowing what to do, she flees to a holiday resort. She needs to redefine her life. Meeting a surfwoman is the beginning of an emotional roller coaster. Both women have scars on their shielded hearts. Both determine to evade each other and stay away from any commitment. When the resistance begins to fade away, overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear takes over. Brooke's struggle is heartbreaking. How much are they willing to risk to follow their hearts? The author has woven a great story, dripping with drama and tension. I'm impressed with the way the author captured the pain and the heartbreak. I really could feel all the emotions, the vulnerability of the main characters. It's a beautiful portrayal of love in all its aspects. It is moving, sad, funny, heartbreaking and very romantic. Read it and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
I liked the story line it had me turning the pages wanting to know what would happen next. I liked the two characters though at times I found them to be a little dramatic.
The dialogue for me was not natural which was what made me struggle to really getting into the book. I also found it longer than it needed to be.
A light fun read but found I was ready for it to end by the last 20% of the book.
This is the second book I have read by S.L. Gape and honestly after the first one, I wasn't sure if I read this one, especially since I would have to pay for it...BUT I am glad I did. Now, that's not saying I don't think it was a bit pricey for the quality of the edits but I did throughly enjoy the story. The story is about Brooke, a police detective who fell in love with her superior and was together for 9 years before she found out she was cheated on, and Chloe, an artist whose had her heartbroken and plays the field. Nothing new there but the delivery was really nice. They meet and first impressions once speaking was involved were not the greatest but still somehow forged a highly sexually tense friendship of push and pull. The secondary characters were great too and Jo and Kate are so cute that they make you want to puke. There is a decent amount of angst but nothing too terrible, some meddling friends who think they know what's best, and fears that always get in the way. I would highly recommend it if it were cheaper or if it was better edited. Regardless, if you fan of the author then nothing will keep you from it, and if you got money to spend and nothing else to spend it on...go for it.
This the first book I have read of this author's. I can you won't be the last. I loved the characters Brooke and Chloe and their friends. The storyline like was well written...watching them both go through their pain and growing from it. I would definitely recommend this book.
