Disaster has struck as the mysterious Deathlord Supreme Mellegogg has kidnapped Princess Anna and trapped Jack and all the other Paragons in the ancient temple of the Conclave.

With the Paragons out of the way, Mellegogg is free to begin his devious plan to destroy the universe, involving a multi-pronged attack which Jack's allies are caught up in, and woefully unprepared to stop. To make matters worse, the evil Verrutus is joining forces with Mellegogg, and about to unleash his Secret Army upon the Empire, with devastating consequences.

As the Deathlords inflict their campaign of destruction upon the galaxy, Jack makes a desperate attempt to escape from the Conclave with his spaceship in order to save Princess Anna and his friends so they can stop Mellegogg and Verrutus before it is too late.

Jack and his allies unite to keep the forces of darkness from overtaking the universe. But as they discover the extent of the Deathlords' plans, they realize they may be too late to prevent them from succeeding. Now, as corruption and terror spreads across the galaxy, Jack and his friends must come together against all odds to save the day - even if it may cost them their lives.

Will Earthman Jack finally unlock the power to become the superhero he's destined to be? Or will he lose everything to the Conclave of Corruption?

Now this is what I’m talkin’ about. This is what I was expecting after my insidious two year wait after reading Earthman Jack vs. The Secret Army. The last two (which were originally the first 2/3 of one ridiculously enormous book) were OK but they were really the build up to this one. This is where the magic happens. This is where some Deathlords get their butts handed to them. This is…what? Not the end? Just wait until you read the cliffhanger. Kadish is more of an evil genius than Hekubus. This is one of those cliffhangers that will drive you insane until the next one comes out, which I can practically guarantee will be in two years, because you know you HAVE to read it. I know I do.

5+ Corrupted Stars!

The Review:
Absolutely brilliant! That’s right! 5 PLUS stars for this one!

Earthman Jack vs. the Conclave of Corruption was balls out, no limiter, fast paced action from start to finish! The deathlords are exacting their plan, all our heroes are in peril and the universe is literally in danger of going extinct! There was so much going on in this novel, from all different perspectives, but as always, the author did a phenomenal job telling the story and not only telling it well, but telling it expertly. You’re going to LOVE this one!

The Happenings...
When we left off in the previous book, the Conclave was in major trouble and now, everyone is looking at Jack to save them. Scally and Glimmer are in the hands of an enemy bent on getting his revenge, Princess Anna has been taken with Shanks determined to save her at all costs, Green and Sawbones are surrounded, Fred, Wil and Grohm are storming the planet, Heckubus is finally exacting his evil plan - Muahahaha! - and the entire universe is in the middle of its last stand!

And that barely scratches the surface of what’s happening in this highly addictive read that fuels the imagination and captures the heart of young adventure, true friendship and the fight for the greater good.

Shew!

Mr. Kadish really steps up his game this time around. The war that’s been brewing has finally been waged and the massive amount of power and supporters the deathlords have backing them seems daunting. At every turn, there’s a new threat, a new and more serious danger to our heroes and I couldn’t help but wonder, how are they going to get out of this! I often forgot I was reading a book as I was dragged into the fray, fighting along side these brave characters.

There’s a ton of action, as fight sequences play out in stunning detail! There’s adventure, fun and betrayal. My “feels” were all over the place because some of it was expected, but some of it was SHOCKING! I think that word accurately sums up how this book made me feel. I was shocked and jaw-dropped through a huge portion of it. I was anxious, I was cheering and I was excited, my heart pounding with each new undertaking!

The Characters...
Nothing comes easy for Jack and this time was no different, but he’s slowly finding himself and he’s learning what he’s made of. Just when you think he’s had enough and he couldn’t possibly take any more, he gets back up and fights harder, stronger and with more willpower than any character I’ve ever read! I just love him so much.

Grohm has quickly taken second place in my favorites category. For a character who says so little, he has a HUGE presence about him. His iron will, courage and bravery had me falling for the big guy in a big way. Wil and Fred also quickly grew to be some of my favorites. We get to see more of them and their personalities, and not just their partying, roguish ways. They really become unlikely heroes themselves.

Professor Green always adds some levity to the situation as he bumbles his way through, but in this installment, his intelligence really shines and he, alongside his friends, fight and fight hard. I loved their parts in this story.

Heckubus comes through in a big way - and that’s all I’m saying about that. ;)

There’s even a little bit of romance going on, too. Scally and Glimmer have a connection, but Scally is a free spirit (think Han Solo!) and it was interesting seeing how the Red’s heart caved for the girl he won’t allow himself to fully have. Jack, Anna and Mourdock have a love triangle going on and jealousies rear up between them, but ultimately, the greater evil takes center stage. I can’t wait to see how that all plays out.

The Wrap Up:
At the heart of these novels, Jack, a seemingly unimpressive teenage boy, unexpectedly finds his life yanked from obscurity to notoriety in a galaxy fueled by corruption and betrayal. He’s made good, honest, trusted friends through his journeys and together, they fight the corruption on multiple platforms as the story is told from a myriad of point-of-views.

Each episode so far, has lead up to this point in the story, each chapter filled with a building tension, high adventure and heart pounding excitement, all exploding onto the pages in book five. The world building is ingenious and it encompasses lovable characters you can’t help but root for and vile enemies you want to loath!

This series is an entertaining sci-fi fantasy that boldly and bravely captures the heart and imagination of the reader, leaving a deep and lasting impression well after the final page. And after that ending???? It’s going to be a painful wait, but I’m excited to see where the author takes us next!

The fifth book in the Earthman Jack series, and the third part of the “Conclave Trilogy” within the series (part 3 of book 3, in essence).

There are a few spoilers ahead, nothing too significant (particularly if you’ve read the previous books) but beware if you continue on.

Almost everything that had been in the pressure cooker in the previous books came up to pressure and exploded into action in this book. There was the Conclave and Jack fighting to save it, there was Scally and Co. trying to get free of their dire situation, Amadeus has the fleet approaching, the bad guys are gaining ascendency and Anna is finally out of her “coma”.

Everything is going horribly wrong, plans are going awry, people are dying, there is action and twists and intrigue-a-plenty. This was, by far, my favourite book out of the latest 3 released – but it wouldn’t have been anything without the build up and setup in the previous two books (of the “Conclave Trilogy”).

There were some killer moments in this book – I actually cried with a moment between Wil and Fred (I didn’t realize how very attached I’d become to these two until this moment).

The end was SPECTACULAR. LOVED IT, didn’t see it coming.

I also didn’t see the other major twist in the book, even though as soon as it was revealed it was a serious DUH moment for me, because really, I should have seen it, but I didn’t. So very cleverly done.

Kadish didn’t hold back in this one, he let loose and the consequences of all the threads that had been floating around in the previous books came into play in such a significant way. This was a very fast, easy read because it was so engaging and I got swept away in the reading of it.

Mixed in with the action were some important character developments – most significantly with Anna being awake, things with Mourdock and Jack and that whole thing became more significant.

Glimmer and Scally and where the whole storyline with Eisenwolf went was great, it was such a wonderful insight into his character. Loved it.

Grohm was great (and pissed off, hehehe). I’m not much for the muscle guys most the time, but Grohm just hit the right balance for me. He wasn’t overused, and that was important to his impact on the story.

Amongst all the surprises, the heroes stepped up just as the stakes got raised, and things began to come to a head with the Deadlords. It was action, adventure, twists, intrigue, shocks and consequences and this created a crackerjack of a book, that I loved from start to finish.

Also, can’t wait until the next one!

I received an ARC for a honest review.

The Value of a Star: Ratings Explained

You guys really need to meet Jack. Book 3 (and 4 and 5) are out today, and Jack still rocks.

Back in 2013, Hugh Howey—indie author extraordinaire and vocal advocate for self-published authors—shared a letter on his blog from some guy named Matt Kadish who had written a book and self-published it on Amazon. Hugh Howey hasn't lead me wrong yet, so looked up Matt’s book on Amazon…600+ pages for $.99? Harry Potter meets Star Wars? Uh…duh. I downloaded Earthman Jack vs. The Ghost Planet immediately. And then didn't read it. For like a year.

I can’t remember what made me finally pick it up, but I can tell you that once I got going I plowed through it. It was a blast to read! (Read my original EJ1 review here). I Immediately went back to the beginning and started again, this time reading out loud to my kids—and they loved it as much as I did.

I’d found a rare thing. I’d found a self-published book that deserves to be read.

Book 2, Earthman Jack vs. The Secret Army, came along in 2015, and once again it struck all the right notes. Action, drama, intrigue, great characters, and laugh-out-loud dialogue sprinkled through out. No sophomore slump for Earthman Jack.

Now we have book 3, and I'm happy to say that streak continues. It's an expectation at this point. If fact, it ended up being so packed full of awesome that it had to be split into 3 separate books:

Earthman Jack vs. The Intergalactic Manhunt: Book 1 of the Conclave Trilogy
Earthman Jack vs. The Ring of Fire: Book 2 of the Conclave Trilogy
Earthman Jack vs. The Conclave of Corruption: Book 3 of the Conclave Trilogy

I love Jack and my kids love Jack. The only reason you and your kids don't love Jack is because you haven't read about him yet.

Fix that.

Happy Reading!

Riveting battle scenes, Good vs. Evil and Technology run amok. Nothing is sacred as Kadish pulls from every author that has come before. For those of us “of age” the creative imagery conjures up watching classic Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right or Peabody and Sherman, that is if they were on a spaceship trying to save the universe! The characters develop strengths we didn’t know they had and just when you think you figured out what’s coming next epic surprises make your jaw hit the floor. It’s rare an author can appeal to such various age groups and backgrounds in the Sci-Fi genre but Matthew Kadish has nailed it with Earthman Jack.

Oh wow great book!!

I'm continually surprised by the depth of writing in this series. I have read authors with publishing deals that are not as good as what is written here. Mr. Kadish is a most excellent author.

The entire book started with a bang and never let up even to the end. Multiple twists and turns and never a dull moment. The Earthman Jack series is one of the best I've read in years.

I highly recommend the series and this book. I can't wait for the next one.
