Becoming a goaltender in the NHL is the only thing I ever wanted for myself.
Goal accomplished.
Two years ago, I was the best goalie in the league, for the third time. With our Stanley Cup win, the Austin Arrows were on top of the world. Nothing could possibly bring us down.
Wrong.
Turns out, even when you’re at the top, you can find yourself back at rock bottom.
But it gets worse.
Not only did the team fall from grace, then I did too. I was accused of something I didn’t do. And now I’m being forced to repair my tarnished reputation.
Only I don’t know how to do that.
When the suggestion is made for me to pull off this ruse for the media, I know what I’m getting into. I also know there’s only one right answer.
But it’s complicated, and I’m not the only one who could get hurt.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nicole Edwards spends her days stringing words together to make complete sentences. Sometimes not. Her best friend is coffee, and she has a love/hate relationship with sarcasm. She’s been accused of having a filthy imagination, which she admits is true.
Nicole lives in the suburbs of Austin, Texas. She proudly claims one husband, three grown children, and two bosses (better known as the dogs). When she isn’t writing, watching football or hockey, or keeping her bosses happy, you can probably find her with a book in hand.
It's been forever since I've read a Nicole Edwards book and this one looked soooo good. It was good, not great, not a favorite or anything but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
I love a romance where the two main characters harbor feeling for each other and don't realize that the other person feels the same way. When you add in that the male character is the older brother's best friend it's even more of a grabby hands situation.
Ellie and Kingston have known each other for a very long time. When Kingston's rep is a bit damaged by a false accusation, the team deems it appropriate for him to have a relationship out in the open showing what a great guy he is, etc. Of course the person who is determind best to have a fake relationship with him is Ellie. She has known him forever, knows the type of person he is and secretly harbors a mega crush on him.
What I like about Ellie is that she is a strong woman. She's a single mom raising her daughter the best she can, she has her own business and is truly a good person. Kingston...is just pure yummy. He did drive me hella nuts with his insecurity and not voicing his feelings. I seriously wanted to smack him at times.
What I didn't love was how long it took for the whole relationship to build a foundation. I do realize that there needed to be a story line built and all but I swear it took forever for Ellie and Kingston to FINALLY get their groove on. And when they did there seemed to be a lot of orgasming on command and we all know that it doesn't happen like that, lol!
There is some more in this story that I want to leave up to the reader to find out. This was a good read but wish that there was a little flushed out perhaps. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series as I'm hoping it's about Spencer, Ellie's brother.
Nicole Edwards is an author that I one click whenever she releases a new book . I was happy to see a sports themed romance novel which is a bit out of her norm of kinky cowboys and bar owners. While I enjoyed certain aspects of the book, I had a hard time connecting with the characters. They were too old to have that much drama and angst.
I had a hard time believing that Rush and Ellie have secretly lusted after each other for 16 years. Before her accidental pregnancy, hockey contracts and his fall from grace . The only reason these two are couple is to show the fans that he's a nice guys.
The first half of the book was the pair pretending they were a couple. They were playful and cute. I was excited that this couple was finally figuring out how to make their relationship work.
When they finally decide to give in I was hoping to feel their spark but it was lacking for me. Rush was going to kinkify Ellie but I thought he lacked in that department. With the introduction of a few toys and sex in the office, that's about as kinky as this couple got.
The hockey storyline and the descriptions of the game were well written. I also thought the storyline with Bianaca, Ellie's daughter, was interesting and kept me reading.
3.5 stars I want to start by saying I am a HUGE Nicole Edwards fan!!! That being said this book just didn't do it for me :( There were many stories going on and hard to keep up with. The H/h had TONS of sex. I am no means against sex but some story with it would have been nice. I loved Kingston but he could have manned up when times got tough. But Ellie I did not like her at all for most of the book, she slightly redeemed herself at the end.
It usually never takes me this long to read a book but I found myself distracted a lot. There were so many characters...so many plots...it was hard to remain focused on the main characters and their storyline.
I love friends-to-lovers romances, but there was something off about this one (I'm sorry!!). It felt like the first half of the book dragged a bit, then the second half was pretty much sex, sex, sex, sex. The storyline kind of blurred for me and I found myself skipping a lot of the sex scenes (GASP!!). Not saying they weren't hot...just seemed like that was ALL they did.
I'm not saying this was bad, just didn't really do it for me.
It has been a long while since I have read a m/f romance from Nicole Edwards (for no other reason that I LOVE her m/m books and have been focusing on them).
But I am back in the game with her new series, The Season.
Besides, a Nicole Edwards book and hockey - I am in like Flynn with that! #InstaClick #HockeyHotties
The Season: Rush was everything I have come to expect from a Nicole Edwards book.
Cover lust. Lovable, complex characters. Laugh out loud moments. Hot as Hades sexy times. Killer Asses
"He has a killer ass. Like, top ten best asses ever. Right up there with... I don't know, but still. Top ten. Maybe top 5. Yes, definitely top five. And I want to bite it."
Ellie and Kingston's relationship is not the norm. Could you go into a pretend relationship with someone you have true feeling for?
I adored their shared history, the way their worlds have always been intertwined even when they weren't in the position they are in now. And besides, who doesn't love a story where the woman is in lust with her brother's best friend.
I couldn't help but want Ellie & Kingston to be more. To want more. To have more.
I loved that we got both POV's (and a 3rd POV thrown in at times for good measure, but I don't want to spoil what that's all about for you), and especially loved getting into Kingston's head as he fights the distractions that he faces on and off the ice. Focus. Puck, patience. React.
Ms Edwards writing drew me right in, I felt like I was in the arena, could feel the chill of the ice, hear the roar of the crowd. I was completely immersed into the world of hockey.
From the first word until the last, I couldn't put this book down, even forgoing food so I could read what happened next.
There are plenty of great secondary characters, some of whom I hope become a bigger part of The Season series.
Now while I am waiting for the next book in the seriess #IwanttoscaleMountRushmore
“Don’t assume the score until the final buzzer sounds.”
Now, here’s a sports analogy that has real world applications, and Kingston Rush and Ellie Kaufman would do well to heed this advice because the journey that they take in Nicole Edwards’ latest release, The Season: Rush, is emotional, frustrating, and extremely complicated for a relationship that’s supposed to be pretend.
Kingston Rush is definitely a mountain of a man, and as goalie for the Austin Arrows, he commands that body with precision and finesse, and those moves also make him quite the dirty-talking alpha in bed. He’s lusted after his best friend’s sister, Ellie, for sixteen years, so when he sees an opportunity to have something real with the girl who’s always been off-limits, he takes it, but he seems to get more than he’s bargained for when that arrangement turns his emotions upside down, forcing him to lose his focus, his patience, and his quick reaction time when things matter most.
There’s nothing more important to Ellie Kaufman than her family, especially her daughter, Bianca, and her brother, Spencer. Bianca is her number one priority so she puts herself last in everything she does, which means when her brother asks for a favor and it’s one that puts her in a rather precarious position with a man she’s had a crush on for many years, she can’t help but give in regardless of what it does to her body and her heart.
What I found most interesting about Rush is the fact that Edwards is telling two stories in one and each one has an impact on the other in both positive and negative ways. Personally and professionally, there’s a lot at stake for both Kingston and Ellie, and, at times, the risks seem far greater than the reward, but that’s only because they’re more invested than they’re willing to admit to themselves and each other.
Operation Scale Mount Rushmore is definitely a mission I can get behind, and let me tell you, Ellie takes on that challenge with every part of herself, even though she tries to keep her distance and her feelings hidden from Kingston. I do have to say that Kingston and Ellie frustrated me several times towards the end of the story because they refused to communicate with one another and those things left unsaid ended up changing the dynamics of their relationship.
I’m a huge fan of Nicole Edwards’ stories. She’s a fantastic storyteller because she provides her readers with a complete view of the main characters and the plot line, allowing us to get inside her hero and heroine’s heads and work through their issues with them while also understanding why they act and say the things they do.
I’m a sucker for a sexy sports romance, and that is exactly what Edwards gives readers in Rush, and with the small hints along the way about a certain captain of the Austin Arrows, I’m sure readers are in for a fantastic second book.

4.5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
Kingston Rush is a man that has been falsely portrayed as a bad guy in the press. He has chosen to just ignore all the negative press figures that it will die down eventually. Until his team’s management and best friend steps in, Kingston is perfectly content with choosing to ignore the bad publicity rather than wasting his time addressing false and useless rumors. Yet part of their plan involves someone that is completely off limits and has been as long as he can remember.
Ellie has beaten the odds of being a young single mom. She has a beautiful preteen daughter. A successful business and life is good. So what if she is in love with a man that sees her as nothing more than his buddy’s little sister. She is perfectly content admiring him from afar and making sure the lines of friendship are clearly defined.
When fate bust in with guns blazing and presents an opportunity that neither of them can refuse, will they continue to play the juvenile game of denial or will the tables turn and these two finally realize that you never question something that is so clearly meant to be?
Ellie and Kingston were truly fabulous and sexy as hell. They were definitely some of the hottest and most romantic characters that I have ever read, but I did get a little flustered with these two at times. Their denial and Kingston’s insecurities were driving me batty, yet when these two hooked up in the bedroom…in the words of the infamous Uncle Jessie…” Have mercy”! I was literally screaming for them to just embrace it throw caution to the wind and embrace it already. I hate it when fictional characters don’t listen to me…lol
The Season was fun, sexy, charming and a real delight to read. The characters were endearing and their amorous attraction towards one another will have hooked from the first page. NE fans are definitely going to love this one hard.
This book had all of the elements of my favorite romances. A) Hockey player...duh. B) Brother's best friend...yum. C) Crush/intense attraction...grab B.O.B...keep him close by. D) Kinkifying sex...yes, yes, yes...see B.O.B. Comment! Full review coming on The Smut-Brarians while I catch my breath.
At the risk of sounding a bit shallow....OMG what a gorgeous cover! Fellow book junkies may I introduce you to the rather lovely Kingston Rush. Dark, brooding, hot hockey star who is reeling from a couple of bad seasons caused in part by someone trying to wreck his reputation. Ellie is the little sister of Kingston's best friend and team mate, Spencer. A plan is hatched to make Kingston look better in the public eye following the previous 'scandal' & Ellie is the key.
Ellie and Kingston have known each other for years. Both have secretly wanted the other but neither has said anything for fear of ruining their friendship which runs deep and is a pivotal part of both their lives.
Kingston is single and although it's clear he loves sex he rarely dates for any length of time and he does not come across as a manwhore or a player. He is loyal to his core and such a solid guy. His personality reminded me of Ethan Dexter from the Game Plan by Kristen Callihan- it's that whole still waters run deep, quietly brooding type of hero whose very presence in the book just radiates heat and passion off the pages. Now THAT is my perfect hero. * sighs & smiles to self whilst daydreaming a little*
Ellie is so likeable .She has really made a success of her business, The Penalty Box, Sports Bar. She has a 12 year old daughter, Bianca, who was the result of a one night stand in Vegas when Ellie was 21. After finding out she was pregnant Ellie was unable to trace the guy she had been with. As a character she is interesting , funny, stubborn & the sort of person you can warm to easily.
The story is good. It's well paced- this is a pretty long book & I loved every page- with a good build up to Ellie and Kingston getting together and OMG do they ever get it together!?!? These pages are HOT. The secondary characters are intriguing. I have no clue where Spencer's story might go but I would love to find out.
Dual POV with occasional pov from Bianca . No cheating- these two are solid together despite some angst and heartache. Any cheating wouldn't fit with either character, they are both loyal to those they love.
Lots of sex and swearing so recommend over 18's only. If you like hockey romances (check), friends to lovers (check) and the whole big brother's friend trope (check ) then snap this beauty up, find a quiet corner and prepare to lose a little of your heart to the sweetheart that is Kingston Rush.
The Austin Arrows series looks really, really promising.
Iv seen a fair bit of hype with this and the reviews are pretty great. I'm definitely not the majority here. While I enjoyed this story well enough, it just wasn't that great in my opinion.
I found the story skipped a fair bit throughout so instead of it being seamless in just jumped a bit to much for me to keep up with. It took a while for them to actually get together and then throughout the story it was one big jumble of miscommunication and pointless angst that could have been have easily of been resolved by talking like adults. It wasn't until the near end of the story that they confirmed there true feelings towards eachother. Kingston drove me up the wall with his childish paddies and selfish actions. Ellie annoyed me less but still I wanted to shake the silly out of her and tell her to talk to him and tell him how she felt! And slap him because he was acting like a turd. Also I found the chapters that were in Bianca(Ellie's daughter who's 12!) POV to be very strange.. also found her to come across a little manipulative and spoilt.
Its not all bad honestly the book is good it's just not good enough for me to be super excited. (Only my little opinion)
They had great chemistry. The sex was crazy hot and they had sweet moments that made me sigh. The side characters were enjoyable. I'm hoping Noelle and Spenser have a book, there's definitely something going on between the pair.
Like I said it was enjoyable enough and plenty of people love this. It just wasn't one I'm likely to re-read or remember to well. However I will keep an eye out for the next and I will more than likely read that.
ok so when I got this book I thought ok another hockey/sports book boy was I wrong this just isn't another sports book it's a nicole Edwards sports book, you've got a hot sexy alpha male and a good girl put them together and you've got one delicious book. you've got Kingston rush the goalie God to the Austin arrows hockey team and Spencer who is his best friend who has a sister ellie who is a single mum to 12yr old Bianca so now I've set up the characters I'll fill you in a little on the story. The arrows are on a losing streak a 2yr losing streak, rumours about rush hit the media and his heads just not in the game so the higher ups come up with a plan to change his image by making him have a pretend girlfriend to which Spencer offers up his sister ellie, after some persuading she agrees. the first half of the book feels like foreplay and then boom the chemistry between the two characters explodes in only a way Nicole can do hot and sexy. This is near the top of my list as one of my favorite Nicole Edwards books the story is brilliantly done the characters amazingly good at times I wanted to bang there heads together and shout for God sake talk to each other that's how you know you've got a good book when you actually shout at the characters on the page, this book is funny, sexy and yes sometimes frustrating but it's a perfect mix of sport and sexy romance a well deserved rating and a definite must read congratulations Nicole on yet another brilliant book
"Her skin is soft and warm against my palm, so much so that I'm distracted by my body's ridiculous physical response to her. So when Ellie grabs my wrist and shifts my hand so that I'm cupping her breast, I damn near pass the fuck out."
5 secretive stars! This book had me from page one!
OMG.... I can't even begin to express how f#cking amazing this book is!! Once I started this book I couldn't stop, there was no way I was putting it down!! The story, the heat, the characters, I mean what's not to love really!!! This was a great start to the series, and I CANNOT wait for the next one!!! I don't know how patient I can be waiting.... but I'll try!

This whole books it a Goal! I swear Mrs Edwards gets better and better and bring you characters you not only love but that stick with you. Which is why when she throws out people from previous books you eat it up because like the one your reading now, you loved them too!
Rush...where to begin. I loved the H Kingston. He was confident without being cocky. He was hot as heck but what I enjoyed most was how down to earth he seems. Throw in the h with a daughter who also happened to be your best friends sister... You can't help but keep reading. I enjoyed how sassy and take no crap Ellie was and you have me hooked. She was not a doormat at all which was a major score.
My only ehh moment with the books was Bianca at times I felt I wanted to see more of her relationship with Kingston. I felt that was missing a bit for me personally by over all I freaking loved it! And as a friendly reminder.... Go grab her other books while your at it

Nicole Edwards has done it again!! The Season:Rush is a great start to this wonderful new series about sexy hockey players and the women they fall in love with. OMG did I love Ellie and Kingston!! A beautiful single mom and a super sexy hockey player known as Mount Rushmore...you can already see the sparks flying...and boy, oh boy were there sparks!! They were perfect for each other even though they were oblivious to the fact, and yes, there came a point where I wanted to strangle both of them, but at the same time love and the need to protect one's self makes folks act crazy and do silly things. This story was so well written and beyond enjoyable. The Season:Rush was a fun, witty, and emotional read. I cannot wait for the next book in this series...I am seriously hoping that it is Spencer and Noelle. Great job, Nicole Edwards!!
Kingston Rush, I love you. I love how you are a sweet, caring man who fell in love with Ellie years ago, and just didn't realize it!!
Kingston is my favorite kind of character. He is of course, gorgeous, but underneath all of his hotness, he is real. He is honest with Ellie from the start and for that I love him.
Ellie had a one night stand 12 years ago, and has been raising her Bianca on her own ever since. When she gets a proposition from The Austin Arrows, to be Kingston's pretend girlfriend, she jumps on the chance. After all, she has had a huge crush on him since she was young.
Kingston and Ellie had hella chemistry, and hella sex scenes.
I couldn't put this book down. I can't wait for the other books in this series.
I completely adored, loved, swooned and went nuts over this book. This might not be the typical down and dirty NE that we're all used to but that didn't make it any less hot, sweaty and oh so yummy. Of course I recommend you read every single NE book but it's not completely necessary to read A Million Tiny Pieces before this although it might help with some of the supporting characters. I'm going to say it, yep, this is my favorite NE book yet.
Fantastic! Loved this book! Kingston is a hockey player along with Ellie's brother, Spencer. Kingston got himself in a bit of media trouble last season and the team's publicist thinks it would be good PR if Kingston had a steady girlfriend. Enter Ellie, who is a single mother of Bianca, a 12 year old. Loved all the twists and turns in this one and of course, the sex was so hot...Nicole Edwards did it again! Can't wait to read Spencer's story!
I know absolutely zilch about hockey but after reading this, well let me say my interest has been peaked, especially if the players are like Kingston ‘Mount Rushmore’ Rush. Ooh what a hottie!
Rush is the goaltender for the Austin Arrows playing in the NHL. They have been a little down on their luck for the past two years and added to that some bad press for Rush has led to management taking some drastic actions. One being that Rush needs a pretend girlfriend to improve his tarnished image of his one night stand hook up status. His captain and best friend, Spencer has the perfect solution – his sister Ellie. As they have all been mates for years he doesn’t see an issue and Rush wouldn’t ever make a real play for her would he? Well there are things that Spencer doesn’t know and one being that Rush has carried a torch for Ellie for years. Little does he know that the torch carrying is reciprocated.
Ellie is a single mom to Bianca and owns the Penalty Box, a bar that the Arrows team have adopted as their home from home. Her love life is lacking but she’s not one for relationships, in fact her daughter is the result of a one night stand in Vegas well over a decade ago, but having no idea who that guy was, she has pretty much raised Bianca on her own. Her brother and Rush have always been there for her though. She has always had good banter with Rush and anything else she has yearned for with him, she has kept tightly under wraps. Imagine her inner turmoil when the request is put to her. Can she go through with this pretend game without her heart getting crushed?
This was another hit from Nicole Edwards and kept me on tenterhooks throughout. As always the passion and chemistry between the two main characters was intense and smoking hot. I loved how Rush was in ‘kinkyfying’ Ellie, it was hilarious but oh so sexy at the same time.
Something that was a little different was having the third POV as Bianca’s thought process and mainly her intention to try and track down her Dad though Facebook. At first I found this a little off putting but I soon got with the programme and saw how clever it was to add another dimension to the storyline and was kind of like a third party observation of the relationship between her Mom and her beloved ‘Uncle Kingston’ (obviously not all things!)
I was really invested in this sexy read and has got me wanting to know more, especially about Spencer and his dalliances with Ellie’s friend and business partner. Also what’s going to happen with his ex who has been brought in to market the team? Hmm interesting things being put in place for the next books in the series I bet. Loved it and loved Rush! Five stars.

Good read. If you look for an alfa-male, you won't find it here, but if you are up for a cool strong heroine, it's a good choice. 100% safe. I didn't get why the MCs waited 16 years to get together. They liked and wanted each other and just did nothing... H (Kingston) is h's (Ellie) brother's BFF. Was it a reason to not chase a relationship?! As if h's brother Spencer has a bad choice of friends... the most ridiculous motive from my point of view. Especially since Spencer got the idea of his sister to be fake gf of Kingston to improve H's image. Not an unusual plot, isn't it? lol
Solid, modest and cool h and dumb H. Sorry, but Kingston was soooo desperate and had most meek inner monologs. And the situation with the father of Ellie's daughter was also a bit forced. h got pregnant at 21 after ons in Vegas. She tried to find the man, James, but without success - so we don't have the issue with hiding a child from his parent. But her daughter, Bianca, whos PVO we also have a pleasure to read :-), found him through fb post. I don't wanna judge the child's behavior, I'm not 12 anymore lol. But h was a really cool mom, so the whole thing with secret post was also a bit strange. And here we have back and forth, yada yada yada, some light drama etc. The one who called the truth with H was Spencer, h's brother. One sentence, which describes the H perfectly One road dump and you tucked your tail between your legs and ran As I said Ellie was really cool. The chick rocks :-) I have to put my daughter first. I won't chase a man; I won't beg and plead for him to accept me for who I am. I won't let my daughter see me doing that. It's not the sort of role model I want for her.
Standing ovation! Woman, you're so right! Thanks to author for such great heroine!
I won't write much about the situation with a random woman, who incriminated the H of abuse and the h was the one to track her down and confess the truth. It was just flimsy.
The perfect title for the book could be Women rule the world! Yeah, I almost forgot. There are hot sex scenes and of course a HEA! :-)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Rush was one of the most refreshing books I have read in a while. It has all the elements of a great story. Sexy hockey player, spunky single mom, and adorable kid. I love children in books, but only if they enhance the story, and it definitely did with Rush. It also holds all the hotness we have come to expect from a Nicole Edwards book.
Kingston Rush has been falsely accused of being a bad guy and player in the media, distracting him effectively from his game. Yet, he’s determined to turn things around this season and ignore the gossip, until management proposes a solution to his PR problem. A solution he cannot ignore because it presents him with the perfect opportunity to go after what he always wanted.
Ellie Kaufman is a successful single mother. But between her bar and her daughter, she doesn’t have much spare time on her hands, especially to date. Until her brother and his best friend, Kingston, need a favor. A favor that might very well break her heart and blur the lines of friendship she is so careful to maintain with Kingston.
Will they be able to overcome their insecurities and preconceived notions? Will they be able to take the leap or maybe let the best thing that happened slip through their fingers?
I loved Ellie and Kingston. They were hot as hell, especially in the bedroom. But what else do you expect from Nicole Edwards. She truly knows how to heat it up between the sheets. Rush is a sexy, funny, charming, and refreshing hockey book. I loved both characters and their attitude. Ellie is a strong and independent heroine, while Kingston is the perfect gentleman, at least outside the bedroom. However, I did get annoyed with them both at times. The back and forth was a little much. But then, I also understood where each of them is coming from.
Rush was nevertheless a delight to read. And I’m sure Nicole Edwards fans will definitely love this one though, I know I did. It’s a fun read I can’t recommend enough. I can’t wait for the next one!
Why can't we give books more than 5 stars? Nicole Edwards has certainly jumped into the hockey romance genre with both feet and I am so glad she did! This is such a great start to this new series and I really look forward reading much more about these guys. Kingston "Mount Rushmore" Rush, the very "large”, hot, super delicious goalie for the Austin Arrows, has had some pretty crappy press and is in need of a PR makeover. Enter his friend and teammate Spencer's sister Ellie who is also his friend. Ellie is a single mom of a 12-year-old daughter and is part owner of the Penalty Box, the bar the players hang out at. It is actually Spencer's idea to have them pretend to be a couple to give him some positive press. And act like a couple they do, but it is only pretend for so long. The raw lust and heat between these two is enough to melt your Kindle. Kingston Rush has definitely earned a place on my top 10 book boyfriends list. He is funny, sweet, kinky, sexy, strong, dirty and yet oh so vulnerable and I just fell in love with him. Definitely a Goalie god! Ellie is such a strong female lead owning her own bar and raising her daughter as a single mom and yet she too was so vulnerable. They are so right for each other even if they both needed a little prodding to realize that. Besides the steamy hot sex, I adored their playfulness and witty banter, their "climb Mount Rushmore" twitter conversation was great! Kingston was certainly the right man for the job to "kinkify" Ellie. One of the other elements of this book that I enjoyed was how Ellie's daughter Bianca has her own chapters. Bianca wants to find her father and let me just say that it adds an interesting dynamic to Ellie and Kingston's budding relationship. Fantastic book! I highly recommend it! I look forward to more in this series. I was gifted an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Gah, it kills me to give this one just 3 stars. I love this author and everything she's written. This one, however, just fell flat for me.
Kingston Rush is hot, no doubt. He's the goalie for the Auston Arrows and he's in a funk. In fact the entire team is in a funk.
Ellie is a successful single mom. She co owns an extremely popular sports bar and is the sister of the Arrows' captain, Spencer.
The book starts out with some background on both of the main characters, with an occasional POV from Ellie's 12 year old daughter Bianca. In a nutshell, Rush needs some work on his public persona and Spencer volunteers his sister for the job of "girlfriend". We find out early on that Rush and Ellie have lusted after each other for years. The pretend relationship evolves and so it goes.
Normally I am drawn into Nicole Edwards' books. This one I just couldn't get in to. It started with the text messaging. If the author makes a point of Ellie changing Rush's name in her phone, than perhaps she should continue to use the changed name in the dialogue. She did that twice, yet she continued to have his name come up as Kingston. I know, not a big deal, but it came across as if the author didn't really care enough to have the story go along as she'd written it.
There was a lot, and I mean A LOT of inner monologue that was repetitive in nature. I found myself skimming. And the story just seemed all over the place for me. The sex was hot, to a point and not up to her usual standards. I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it like I usually do with this author's books. I will, of course, continue the series and hope it gets better for me. I need to find out the scoop on Spence, Noelle and Amber.
I have loved every Nicole Edwards book I have read so far and Rush is right up there as one of my favorites! It was really great to read a sports romance from this author and she did a fantastic job in portraying the sports side of the book. Even if you're not a sport fan, you could still follow and understand what was happening.
Kingston Rush can talk dirty to my anytime he wants!!! He made for the perfect book boyfriend! He was so sweet, kind, caring and deliciously HOT but he also had this insecure side to him that just made him adorable. I loved how Ellie was so level headed, she always put her daughter first. She is a heroine to truly admire.
The storyline was fantastic!!! It wasn't something I was expecting so that made the story that much more interesting. These are characters who are in their thirties, so there a maturity within the characters and the writing. It was fun having bits and pieces of the story told through the daughters point of view. She plays an important part in the story to it was great to get her thoughts and feelings. One of the big parts to the story was mentioned pretty early on, so you knew what was going to eventually happen, but you didn't know when or how it was going to play out. It was a big waiting game.
Overall, the story was amazing. In true Nicole Edwards fashion, it was hot, super hot! But it was also funny, sweet, romantic, with some drama thrown in there. The writing was fantastic. The reader gets multiple point of views but its writing in a way so it's not confusing. I am looking forward to reading more, not only from the author but hopefully more in the series. There are some secondary characters that I think would make for some interesting stories!
I have to say I hadn’t really considered mountain climbing before meeting Kingston “Mount Rushmore” Rush. However, I will admit that is one mountain of a man I wouldn’t mind trying to climb. Now add to the mix that he’s a goalie in the NHL and the hotness factor is climbing even higher. Then we meet Ellie, single mom and sister to Kingston's best friend, Spencer. Between her quick wit and sassy comebacks and the undeniable chemistry between her and Kingston, the hotness thermometer explodes! In order to help repair Kingston's reputation and fan image, he needs Ellie's help. “Let him kinkify you.” That comment by Ellie's best friend, Noelle literally made me laugh out loud. And I agree with her...what harm could come from a little kinkifying? And what happens when pretend starts to feel more like reality than anyone expected?
Nicole Edwards has shut out the competition with this book. I love her writing style and ability to pull you in without even knowing it. The fact that she also has the actual sport of hockey as a main part of the storyline is a huge plus for me.
I give The Season: Rush 5 stars. I can't wait to read more of this series.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love Nicole Edwards. She is one of my go to authors. So seeing she had a Hockey Sports Romance Book -I knew I was going to love it and I wasn't disappointed.
Kingston and Ellie have been friends for years - with Kingston being her brothers best friend - she's had a crush on the gorgeous goaltender since she met him at the age of 18.
After a few disappointing seasons with the Austin Arrows - the executive team is looking for a makeover of sorts and they decide to start with Kingston first. Last season King was in the spotlight for not the best reasons - so they decide if he's in a steady relationship maybe fans will start looking at him differently. Ellie's brother suggests that King dates Ellie - as long as he knows this is just a pretend relationship. But what Spencer doesn't know is that King has been trying to win over Ellie for years... And this just might be the opening he was looking for.
With a great cast of characters and the storyline along with back stories a like keeping you turning page after page. What a great start to The Season Series.
This book is told in three POVs -King, Ellie and Bianca (Ellie's daughter)
I liked this book but I didn't love it. The H/h were really likeable people and the story grabbed me up to one point where it started to fall flat. This is not precisely a short book and I think there were a lot of repetitive issues that didn't contribute to the story and sometimes made it boring. Also, I know it was a friends-with-benefits story, so there was a lot of sex thrown into it, and I don't usually mind about the sex if I get to see another sides of the story too. The romantic side, the friends-to-lovers build up, even though they already knew each other when the book started, but I kept missing conversations between them and more depth to their relationship generally speaking. And then it took so long for them to confront their issues and actually SPEAK, that it all became almost frustrating. I really like Nicole Edward's writing. Her stories and characters are so down-to-earth and relatable. I'm not finished reading her books, not by any means, but this one just wasn't that great for me.
