When Heather Shepherd gets a call from her husband, Detective Ryan Shepherd, she’s sure she’s about to be called up to consult on yet another case.
Heather’s right of course, but the victim is someone she’s never heard of before. A new, and seemingly innocent, librarian who didn’t have any enemies. Or did she? Heather’s determined to get to the bottom of this one, and sets off on another sleuthin’ adventure armed with a box of her Pecan Nut Crunch Donuts, the help and hindrance of her bestie, Ames, and the drive to do the right thing for the residents of Hillside. But the victim’s past is shady, and the suspects are thin on the ground and all seem to have alibis, apart from one – a mysterious stranger who hangs out in the library too often.
Heather’s on the case, lack of evidence aside, and she has to solve the case or risk the killer escaping Hillside and moving on to terrorize parts unknown.
Pecan Nut Crunch Murder is the 35th installment in Susan Gillard’s Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. This is a clean, easy read and the mysteries are always interesting but this series is in serious need of editing and proofing. Heather Shepherd is worried when she realizes her friend and most loyal customer, Eva, hasn’t shown up at Donut Delights. When her husband, Detective Ryan Shepherd, calls her, she learns that Eva has witnessed the murder of one of the librarians at the library. While trying to identify the murderer, Heather is uncovers secrets and an unreported jewel theft.

Another delicious story filled with intrigue and donuts!!! Heather Shepherd is once again chasing down the boy guy while baking scrumptious donuts. Susan Gillard had me once again on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
Oh... hello Kate... I had almost forgotten that you were in this story, so sad that you've return. Given that the books are focusing on the shop again, I guess that it's only natural that Kate would make an appearance in this book. I, however, do not have to like it. I was enjoying the joint venture between Col and Heather. They have a nice chemistry together, but since Kate has decided to throw a wrench in it, I can't wait to see how Heather puts her in her place.
This murder definitely puts a damper on love, which is not new in murder mysteries. Also it plays with the traditional love triangle that we have all become accustomed to in romantic comedies. I had a hunch of who did it before Heather did, but then again I've read far too many mysteries.
I did enjoy the focus on the donut shop this book, it was quite refreshing. I hope Gillard continues to incorporate the shop in to the stories because I love the characters that work at the store.
Another week -- another murder in the small Texas town of Hillside. As Heather is meeting with Amy and her joint venture partners, she receives a phone call about the murder of a librarian. Once again, it's up to Heather and her husband Ryan to solve the case.
This is a fun, entertaining series with likeable characters and interesting story lines. However, the series could definitely benefit from closer editing. Maybe after 35 murders and countless donuts eaten for every occasion, it's time to revamp.

Eva has not shown up at Donut Delights, Heather and Amy are getting worried. When Ryan calls to tell Heather that Eva is a witness to a murder in the library. A book shelf fell on and killed librarian Helena Chadwick. Well once again Heather and Amy are on the trail, but this case seems to be more suspicious than expected. A fun, fast read with another deliciously sounding Donut.

Heather Shepherd and best friend, Amy Givens, are very excited about their joint venture with Col Owen. Heather’s bakery and Col’s tea shop plan on having a Tea and Donuts Fair for their hometown of Hillside, Texas. Now they just have to figure out a date for it and Col wants the fair to be very soon because he wants to propose to his girlfriend, Mona Petrov. But there’s a little problem. Heather’s nemesis, Kate Laverne, wants her bakery included. That’s the last thing that Heather, Amy, and Col will agree to and Kate threatens them.
Kate isn’t the only problem with setting things up for up the fair; another murder has happened and Heather has to investigate and solve it.
Librarian, Helena Chadwick, was crushed by a bookshelf when it fell on her. Eva Schneider, Heather’s best and favorite customer, was at the library when the murder happened and is now a witness to the event. Helena worked at the library for only a week and not much was known about her except that she moved to Hillside from Dallas.
When looking at the fallen bookshelf Heather noticed that there were scratches on it, as if someone used a crowbar to tip it over causing it and another bookshelf to fall on the librarian. There weren’t any witnesses except for Eva who didn’t really see anything and another man who was sitting in the back in an alcove. Heather knew that nothing of the library could be seen there.
Eva did say that she spotted a man with a mohawk hanging out in front of the library. He looked suspicious to her but she didn’t know who he was. The other librarian, Martha Rizzo, said she heard the crash but didn’t see anything. After asking Martha more questions Heather found out that Martha didn’t like Helena and believed she had a shady past. Heather was thinking that might be true too. Helena had a diamond tennis bracelet on her wrist when she was killed and the outline of a ring on her finger. How could a librarian afford a tennis bracelet and a ring on her salary? And where was the missing ring? Heather spotted a diamond ring on Martha’s finger and thought that there just might be a connection.
Things get even more suspicious when Heather finds out that a jewelry store, Krakowski’s, was recently robbed. The owner, Jones Krakowski, said someone broke into his store and took a lot of merchandise.
Heather and Amy asked him if he knew the victim and he said he did. He accused Helena of being the person who robbed his store. He said he didn’t know who killed her but said he didn’t and used his wife as an alibi. Mrs. Krakowski confirmed that her husband was with her. She wasn’t feeling well and he was there to give her some medicine.
So who murdered the librarian? Could it be the jeweler because he thought Helena robbed his store? Maybe it was the other librarian, Martha, who didn’t like her co worker, or was it that strange man with the mohawk who was hanging around outside the library when the victim was killed?
No need to fear, people of Hillside, Heather is on the case and will somehow solve this latest murder.
“Pecan Nut Crunch Murder” is the 35th Donut Hole Cozy Mystery by author Susan Gillard and it’s a fun, fast read like all the past installments in this series. It only takes an hour or so to read and it leaves you satisfied especially if you eat a donut or two, or three while you solve the latest murder along with Heather and Amy. The characters are likable and friendly and Heather’s donuts can’t be beat. Read any of the books in the series and like Heather’s donuts, you’ll be hooked.

I'm at a loss of words of praise for Susan Gillard's "Donut Hole Cozy Mystery" series. If you enjoy light mysteries with a comedic twist, , I most highly recommend this series!
Heather Shepherd, owner of Donut Delights and Investigative Consultant to the Hillside Police Department has a full plate. Heather is meeting with her new venture partner, Col Owens, his friend and Amy Givens ( Heather's best friend ) regarding a Tea & Donut Festival. They are rudely interrupted by Heather's nemesis, Kate Laverne. Could anything else spoil her day??? Following the meeting, Heather notices that a daily customer and friend has not been into the shop. Then Detective Shepherd ( Heather's husband) calls to tell her that this person is at the police station after witnessing a murder at the library plus he needs Heather to meet him at the library. And so the investigation into a murder plus a jewelry store heist begins. The author introduces us a few new feisty and colorful characters mixed in with her well written regulars. This is book #35 in the Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series It can be read as a stand alone as the author weaves the past and present together effortlessly. I volunteered to read the eBook. Thank you to the author for the eBook. My opinion is my own.
I really enjoyed reading this book and I'm glad Susan decided to write about what happened to Ryan's cat. What I didn't like about this book is towards the end when they were trying to solve the murder they kept referring to the burglary as the murder and it was a bit confusing. However I did like this book and I like that the storyline that started at the beginning of the book tied in towards the end of the book. What I do miss is one of the characters in the earlier series and I feel like he needs to come back. That eould be Geoff Lawless. He was a pain but I kind of feel like he was a main character and I need to know what he's up too.
This story had the strangest suspects so far. A librarian is murdered when someone tips a huge bookcase over on her. They have a jeweler who was robbed but never reported it and his wife pretends to be sick all the time. There is also a guy who was seen hanging around the library who looks strange because he has his hair in a mohawk and the other two people involved and Heather's friend Eva and another librarian. Who did it? Heather had a tough time with this one.
When Eva is late to her standing daily visit to Donut Delights and Heather receives a call from Ryan, she fears the worst. Thankfully, Eva is safe but is witness to the latest murder to rock Hillside; at the library, no less. With almost no physical evidence and practically nothing known about the victim, Heather forges ahead with her tablet in hand and her bestie by her side. As if this murder weren't enough, Kate Laverne, Heather's high school nemesis, is back in the picture only this time she's threatening to ruin a fair being planned by Heather and Col. Will she go through with it and, if so, will she succeed? I'm guessing we'll have to tune into the next book to find out. * I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Heather is missing her favorite customer when her husband calls. This can't be good as he is the local police. Where is Eve and who is dead. What are the clues and can the case be solved fast. Love this quiet town that is not so quiet now.
Heather and Amy are sitting in Donut Delights, worried that their friend Eva hasn't shown up. She hasn't missed a day since the shop opened. A call to her house goes unanswered. Then, Heather's phone rings. It is her husband. He has bad news, there has been another murder. Her heart stops as she prays it isn't Eva. I admit, my heart stopped, too! Poor Heather, this case has her all rattled and she can't get it out of her head. I loved this book. The author did a fantastic job.

As Heather, Amy and Col are planning a combined effort food fest Ryan calls Heather in for help again on a strange murder of the local librarian. Heather is determined to find the killer and possible jewel thief before the food fest and the birthday party Lilly has planned for her new friend at the children's home.
Love this series and it just keeps getting better.
I really loved this book. There were a few grammatical mistakes in the book. It was a delightful read. This had such an abundance of well rounded characters. I love each new book even more than the last. Thank you so much for another great read..
