Sarah began her DIY education by ditching the biggest tool in her garage—her husband. Now she’s realizing that not just her marriage was boring, beige and transitional, and she’s in over her head.
Luckily, Chris the hot young handyman is teaching her how to screw, drill, and hammer—and also how to use her power tools.
Together they’re updating her wiring and unclogging her pipes. But when Sarah worries that she’s treating Chris like her own personal power tool, what will she do? Will she pull the plug?
This sexy 25,000-word novella features adults in adult situations and using adult language.
Sarah is newly divorced and not quite sure of just who she is. In the process of a DIY home renovation gone wrong, she hires a handyman to help finish the job. Enter Chris, the much younger – and hot as sin – contractor.
This book was short, under 100 pages, so everything was pretty instant. Which is totally to be expected. And although it was a good story, it just didn’t have that too-hot-to-handle vibe. Towards the end of the story there were some leaps in the plot to get us to the conclusion that sort of felt under developed and rushed.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read; I didn’t love it – but it was an okay short novella.
"Do It Yourself" , Was Delightful, Intresting, and Yummy novella!
Sarah has been divorced from her ex for six months and since he left shehas embraced the do it yourself motto, she has been having a love affair with his power tools, the ones he bought to show off but never used. Sarah's therapist has suggested she do one thing a day that scares her, which is why the story opens on her trying to shop a sex toy store online when the book opens, yet again keeping the Do it Yourself idea in mind, but this was alittle too much to soon. What to do when you can not bring yourself to buy a personal toy online , well of course silly, you re- do the downstairs bathroom!
Two weeks later, the powder room has become the re- do from hell! The do it yourself is a little beyond Sarah's skill set, plumbing and old wiring bringing her to a halt! Until her therapist gives Sarah the phone number for a handyman.
"I wasn’t interested in buying a Skittles-flavored dildo, didn’t mean I was blind. By pretty much anyone’s definition, he was hot. Chris Hemsworth hot. Chris Evans hot. Chris Pine hot."
And sure enough while still drooling she fumbles through hello ; “Um, hi.” Automatically I stuck my hand out, too. His handshake was hot and dry, and his fingertips a little rough as they brushed my knuckles. I think I held on too long. “I’m Chris.” Of course he was." What follows is close quarters and lots of sparks and sexy times all wrapped up in a fun novella, that is not to be missed!

In the category of erotic novellas, this gets 5 Stars.
Thoughts: This was a cut above most of the sexy shorts I see at the top of the charts these days. The writing is seasoned, polished, and flows extremely well. I was genuinely impressed. HOT chemistry, HOT sex. I LOVE that the characters weren't merely vacant-eyed vehicles by which the author delivered an OTT sex-fest. In my opinion, though, the sense of humor this author brings to the story makes this the perfect short read. I know she has a full-length book coming soon, and I can't wait to see what kind of awesome she brings next.
OMG....what an entertaining read. Sarah is a 38 year old divorcee with a pos ex and low self esteem. Her therapist advises her to do one thing a day that scares her. Doing physical changes to her house is her choice of change but she gets in over her head. Her therapist helps solve that problem with a recommendation and phone number to a handyman.
This is where Chris comes in and the fun begins. Who knew renovations could be so much fun? Being a woman who is older and still has functioning hormones, I loved and understood how Sarah's mind worked and mentally cheered her. Her ex brought out some violent tendencies in my psyche that I won't regret.
Two outstanding characters that were steamy, intelligent and made for one great book. Although a short novella it did not lack in anyway. A short story that has it all. Humor, heat, romance and a HEA.
This was a freebie that I downloaded recently. I'm so glad that I did! 'Do It Yourself' was sweet, sexy, and LMAO funny. The h - Sarah - had an inner voice that was over the top hilarious! There were so many good lines from this book that I had a hard time trying to choose one as an example. So - here's one from the H, Chris, to Sarah's ex husband: “If you’ll forgive the analogy— you made your bed, now you need to lie in it. It’s not her fault that you stained the sheets with your filthy cheating jizz.” And then, there is the unexpected, priceless, full color emoji...lol (Yes - I'm juvenile at times). There was one misstep though: At the beginning of the story, Sarah mentions her cat; later there is no mention of it. As funny as the story was, I could imagine it being really over the top hilarious with the inclusion of the cat...(Cats are subversively funny). Anyway, for a book that I had assumed would be a likely DNF, 1-star delete, it was the exact opposite. 4.5 stars!
This was a really cute story about finding confidence in yourself after life has torn you down. (And maybe tore up part of your house) once again Nikky doesn't fail to deliver humor with all the steamy sex.
Do It Yourself is an erotic story about a recently divorced woman. I like the character and at the same time I don’t, which makes her human. Being happy to live off the money of her ex husband is not an admirable quality but then she does make a stab at DIY. I found the conversation between her and the handyman she hires to help with the DIY absolutely excruciating and the result of that initial conversation stimulating (again, think DIY) I love the wit and one liners. The text message exchange after she has a few drinks is a great comic scene and something many readers could relate with. I know I did. I do think the remaining twenty pages or so rushed, particularly with the inevitable fall out and the two reuniting for a happy ending. DIY, the unrelenting theme throughout the story, is a four star read.
Sarah recently divorced her asshole of a husband and is filling her time by renovating her home. Her therapist recommends that Sarah calls her brother who has a construction business. When Sarah sees Chris it's instant attraction. She tries to control herself but spending time together makes it hard. Once they start hooking up, she starts to question if she's using him for his body and creates some issues between the two. It's a quick cute read . I only wish it would have been longer so they could have had a real development in their relationship (whatever that may end up being). I feel like the ending was quick but I think that about all novellas. Excited to read more for the author ***I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review***
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I found this book to be delightfully enjoyable! This was an enlightening romp for an older woman coming into herself after her divorce. Learning how to remodel inspired her but having his body moved her. She was learning how to be her own person. But at what expense? Good read!
Oh yeah...this book pushed all my hot buttons. LOVE handyman stories...Chris was super hot. I liked how Sarah was conflicted about being with him. Just the right amount of angst.
The sex was oh-so-hot. I'll be looking for more books from this author.
I really enjoyed this smoldering hot erotica! I loved it at the very beginning thanks to Sarah’s witty character that made me laugh so hard. I missed that further along in the story although I know that it would have been weird with her being funny because there was so much sexual tension that it wouldn't have worked.
The Story: Since Sarah got divorced a few months ago, she is determined to slowly get her own life back even if it means to demolish her house because her marriage was as boring as her house was furnished - mostly in beige and just dull. When Sarah gets her hand on the tools left behind by The Dick - her former husband - she finds the transformations she is able to achieve with her own hands exciting and fun. Though when she's suddenly facing her destructive powder room, she knows she won't be able to fix it on her own. With help from her therapist in form of a hot looking worker, Sarah finds herself hot and flustered and not just because of the summer heat.
Thoughts: This was such a hot read wrapped up in fun and entertaining moments. It was a mix of erotic and romantic though it was almost like reading porn. Although that sounds not exactly right and it's not like I have read porn before but you know, having a hot plumber help you to fix your pipes?! It's not the books fault but probably my dirty mind. =) I liked the story and all the details about the work going on in the powder room - I can't even bang a nail into the wall without deforming the nail. LoL There was a lot of sexual tension but sadly without the characters really getting to know each other though the ending was super cute and I was happy about the outcome. It was not too cheesy but satisfied my romantic streak.

Sarah is a lost divorced 38-year old woman who uses house projects to fill her life. She feels capable while doing small jobs around the house but decides to deconstruct a boring beige bathroom because it reminds her too much of the past. She soon realizes that she is in over her head & closes the door on the bathroom remodel. When she shares her failure with her therapist, the therapist offers a number of 'someone she knows' who can help her. Enter Chris, the younger handyman/contractor to save the day. Sarah is immediately attracted to Chris & fantasizes about him. Has they work in close quarters in the bathroom & get know each to others things heat up. Sarah discovers a lot about herself from her brief encounters with Chris. She learns to have confidence in herself.
This is another really good short story by Nikky Kaye! Well written with a good message & extra dose of steamy hot sex!! The book is for mature readers only. Though I feel there was a serious theme running along the story was still humorful & fun. Any book that can describe on-line dildo shopping as "It was a veritable rainbow of cocks.", is worth a read in my opinion!

This is the ultimate handyman romance come to life. There is just so much hot goodness in the little novella that I read it twice - back to back - which is unheard of for me! The witty and pun filled dialog was too good for me to walk away after the first time. And, like a good meatloaf, the seconds were just as good as the firsts.
But this book isn't all fluff and sexiness. Somehow, Nikky Kaye threw a couple little life lessons in there without me even noticing them at first. Sarah has a lot on her plate, and her way of dealing with things is to do them all on her own. I was rather impressed with her home improvement abilities and skill with tools.
But she does run into a project that's just too far beyond her skills and youtube tutorials. So she hires a handyman to show her how to do it. Which I love! He isn't doing it all for her, but teaches her along the way. And he's such a great teacher too!
But handyman Chris isn't exactly what Sarah thinks at first. She jumps to conclusions, feelings get hurt, and everyone comes out of the experience having learned a little lesson. So pick an afternoon and just curl up with Do It Yourself. Tell everyone you're furthering your home improvement methods and tune them out for a couple hours. You won't regret it!
Now I received a copy for a honest review. Say that I was not disappointed ! I absoulutely loved the book it was funny and you well learnt something *wink wink* it was a perfect name to for the book if I say so
Freshly divorced Sarah has become a diy'er and has well screwed her self into a corner. Figuring that to rid her house of her ex she begins a dig project on her powder room only to get scared of the renno. Mentioning it to her therapist she gets Chris' number only to get plover over by her own inner self.
Chris is more than surprised by Sarah she easy to be around joke with and learns quickly . But most of all a woman plus power tool equals hot hot hot in his book especially looking like Sarah wi a few bumps along the way ....... Oh wait not going to tell you more you need to read the book and make sure your not drinking anything you might spill it due to the heat of the book or the out right laughing you will do.
I'd say trust me your going to love it like I did but you can judge your self when you read this one
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: Dick Therapist (Chris’s sister)
SYNOPSIS: Newly divorced Sarah wants to make a renovation on her life, but she’s still afraid and unsure of herself, so she starts by making a renovation on her house only to find out that she needs the help of a handyman!!!
REVIEW: Sarah has been divorced for six months after being dumped by her cheating husband, that’s when she starts realizing that her life, as well as her house, has always been “beige”. Her therapist recommends that she does one thing a day that scares her and she knows that she has to start making changes in her life but is afraid to, so she decides to start making changes on her house; she starts at the powder room but she realizes she’s way over her head so her therapist recommends a handy man (which happens to be her brother). When Chris comes help her, they don’t realize that he is not only helping her renew her home, but also her life. You can read this sexy funny book in a day or two, so it’s a great weekend book!
My first read by author Nikky Kaye and it was a great short erotic story about upper class Sarah, meeting blue collar worker Chris when he comes to help renovate her bathroom. This was hot and funnier than I was expecting, which really added to my enjoyment of this steamy romp. I also enjoyed how the message of "don't judge a book by its cover" came across in the writing, in terms of how Sarah judged Chris. That said I did judge this book by its cover, which did nothing for me and gave me pre-convinced ideas that the content wouldn't be professional, so shame on me as it was exceptionally well written. Had I not been offered an ARC via FSSG on Goodreads, based on the cover alone I'd never have picked this book up, and I'd have missed out on a great read. I'd happily read more by Kaye. Recommended read if you're looking for something heavy on the humour and heat and aren't as bothered with the romance side of a relationship.
Do it yourself is the first book I have read by this author but it certainly won't be my last. I really enjoyed reading this fun, sexy and delightful novella. It screams don't judge a book by it's cover and that certainly hit home in this novella. Sarah is a recently divorced lady in her late thirties who's confidence amongst other things had hit an all time low. She decided to do some DIY on her house to cheer herself up and brighten her beige life. Her therapist recommend a handyman and things are set to brighten up. In walks 20 something Chris who would give Chris Hemsworth a run for his money and things start brightening up for Sarah. Chris teaches her lots of new skills and reminds her of a few she's forgotten in recent years. This novella is fast paced, passionate and will want you throwing pens at the wall regarding The Dick.who I really wanted to slap. I really enjoyed reading this book and I'm glad I gave this author a chance as I definitely wasn't disappointed.
What to say about this little slice of erotic sunshine? It was hilarious and full of puns and my little heart loved that!! Sarah is a recently divorced 38 year old who is having the hardest time seeing anything in herself. This is her journey of working out the kinks and finding herself on her own. Do it yourself was the perfect way for a woman to unwind and resurface her self esteem. And of course the man that came to help might just been what Sarah needs too.
The characters were spunky and funny, likeable and relatable. And brought the perfect blend to pull this book together. If you like sexy hilarious puns, this is your book! ;)
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed on behalf of Once Upon An Alpha.
This is a sexy novella about a newly divorced woman who is trying to find herself again. She is determined to do things for herself including renovating her home. She wants a change in her environment to reflect the change of her life for the good. Sarah doesn't mind a little hard labor but she needs a little direction.
Chris is every woman's fantasy. He's the sexy, strong, young handy man who can help Sarah out. He'll direct her with the tools her ex has left behind.
Sarah now just has to figure out if Chris is just another tool to add to her collection or is there maybe a permanent place to keep him around.
Fun and flirty with lots of plumbing, electrical and construction "tips".
Sarah is 38 and recently divorced. Her husband, besides taking her favorite rug also took all her self-esteem. Sarah decides she needs changes in her life, so she starts destroying the bathroom when all she wanted was to make it look better. Her therapist recommends her a handyman. And what a handyman! Chris was sweet, helpful, charming and just plain hot.
This was a fun read about a woman learning to have more faith in herself. Sexy, funny and short.
**I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
This is so much better than erotica, (plenty sexy enough if you like sex) but Kaye is working without a net in her own genre. Steamy sex but a conflicted heroine coming off a bad marriage and literally bumping into a very hot handyman.
I was left slightly disappointed because she raises so many serious issues (self-image issues for her, coming off a bad marriage; class issues of lady and her handyman) and does, I thought, too little with them. Summary: this four-star novella has the material for a five-star novel.
My first book from this author and it defiantly won't be the last! A quick hot read that you can read it one sitting!
We have Sarah that isn't happy with how her home is, after being in a lackluster marriage she wants to spice it up a little. She decides she wants to redecorate her bathroom but when she realises that she's biten off more than she can chew she needs help. Her theripst recommends someone to help.
Chris - the handyman was basically everything Sarah didn't want really. He's not her type at all but she can't help herself.
This was an exercise in sex driven DIY. I enjoyed the quick pace and the sex scenes were hot but the story line was weak. I realize it was a romp of sorts but the sex would have been better and the lessons learned more profound if the story were fleshed out somewhat. The writing is sharp and witty even so it was an enjoyable read. I would have liked to see the relationship grow a bit. It seemed to end a rather abruptly. RECOMMENDED
Great little short story about a Sarah who is divorced and decides she wants to redo her bathroom. What turns out as a DIY project turns into a big mess. She then hire's Chris a hot younger handyman to help her fix her bathroom. From the beginning you can tell the chemistry is there between them but will they act on it? A hot story that have you wanting your own hot handyman. Just love these short stories.
What I liked most about this story, is that the characters' flaws, we're not solved. These were people you know would still have to work on communication after "The End." Sarah is just all kinds of hung up and insecure, and as tempting as it was, as a reader, to want Chris' perspective, the single first-person narrator forces the reader into the starting over with Sarah. Good read!
It was a cute short story, dealing with the attraction of upperclass and lowerclass individuals. Sarah w just got divorced and wants to renovate her powder room so she hires Cristina and the attraction is off the charts.
You will have to read to see if class can come down to the blue collar level.
I received a copy exchanged for an honest review. A quick entertaining read. Sarah is a 38 divorce women and going to therapy. She has been trying renovated the house but has been destroying the house. Her therapist recommend a handyman. A young sexy single Chris comes to her door. She starts having crazy sexual thoughts of him. Cute story but short.
This is a fun short read for DYI divorcees. Sarah is out of a crappy marriage and decides she needed something new and wants to remodel her boring bathroom. Sherealizes sheisin over her head and needs help. Chris handyman/contractor comes to her rescue in all matters . Their chemistry is off the charts and will they make it? I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
