Hangman's Army

Rate this book
A rebellion is brewing in the world of the Lake of Sins while Hugh Truent sits in prison days away from his execution. After taking his findings about the genetic similarities between the classes to the Supreme Almighty and the Council, Hugh had been arrested for treason and all his evidence had vanished as if made from smoke. To protect his family, he cut off all contact with the outside world while he sat in prison for over four years waiting for his execution. He has no idea that some of his reports were leaked to the other classes and that civil war looms on the horizon.Trinity and her friends have no hope of winning the war unless they can unite the classes. In order to do that, they need someone everyone will follow. They need the one person all the classes trust and believe in. They need Hugh. That means they have to break him out of a maximum security prison and convince him to lead their army, but that won’t be easy because Hugh wants revenge and he’s not going to let anything get in his way especially mouthy, attractive, know-it-all Trinity.

Ah man, this just makes me sad. Lake of sins was a great series until this book. I quit reading it three separate times, but came back to it because I wanted to know what happened. I've only read 25%, but I'm done now. Everything I loved about this series is ruined in the first quarter of this book. I loved the kind-hearted, idealistic Trinity, who is now unbearably rude, scratches everyone, even contemplates killing them over minor annoyances. It's only been four years and she's spent the time with her parents; why would she be such a radically different person? I no longer find her likable. :( Worse, she's suddenly lusting after her uncle, and he's lusting after her. Despite explaining later that they're actually not related, this is a creepy pairing with none of the sweetness of Trinity's previous romances.

Hugh has spent four years in prison and it's turned him into a lying coward. He wasn't the best person before, but his integrity was refreshing and why I liked him. He's also abominably rude. He and Trinity are constantly lobbing verbal grenades and objectifying each other. It is tiresome, confusing, and not at all pleasant. And since he's just pleasured himself with three prostitutes, the thought of him being Trinity's main love interest (there's also a pimp) is beyond vomitous. I can't read any more. :P

Do yourself a favor and stop at book two.

This was the third book in the series Lake of Sins and I must admit I enjoyed this book as much as the second book if not more as the war between the allied army and the almighties is finally on. I also enjoyed the daredevil rescue of Hugh on the same day that he was meant to be hung right from the jail he had been in for the past four years. The other almighties had turned against him and blamed him for all the atrocities which had been committed on the night of the handler and tracker rampage. However, the fact that so much time was wasted on silly banter between Trinity and Hugh and the fact that Trinity's mum wanted to get her mated at all costs was such a waste of a good read!! Felt like I was reading a young teenage book instead of the gritty uprising novel of all the lower classes against their oppressors which i had really been looking forward to see happen. I still have a lot of hope for seeing the almighties downfall in the next book especially now that Hugh is managing to get everyone on board and working together. The Guards, house servants, producers and grunts and Gaar the handler of Mirra are all doing their best to work together, side by side with one another and to put their different capabilities to this aim. So I still look forward to reading the next book and final chapter in the series as all in all this was a very thrilling read!!

He is waiting for his death since he came back with all information about her. His work was taken and disappeared. Meanwhile civil war is on the cards but they lead a leader. They need him and they need to get him out. Will they get him out? Will he lead them? See if he will

Lake of Sins: Hangman's Army; Book 3 of the Lake of Sins stories is the most compelling yet. I read a lot, and a wide variety of subjects, authors and genres; this is one of those tales which stays with you - you struggle to put it down and when you do, you are eager to get back to it and in the meantime you are thinking about it.
Hugh was imprisoned after the events in book 2 and here, Trinity, Jackson and others help him escape from prison just before his execution. Life has changed, not always for the better and not everywhere. Hugh is wanted as the face of revolution, an attempt to overthrow the Almighty and their ways, but he has witnessed enough death and wants no part of it. Circumstances allow Trinity to extract a promise of his co-operation, and the two of them are thrown together on a perilous journey. They are attracted to one another, but for different reasons, neither wants to push their relationship into the realm of romance.
Plenty of death, danger and distress. Not for the faint-hearted. Some dislike the romantic aspects of this tale, but I feel it only increases the reader's empathy for the characters, especially as it is Trinity's existence which has brought these events to pass, and love is at the root of many of the relationships which make this society question the status quo.

Hangman’s Army by L.S. O’Dea continues the Lake of Sins series (book 3). It depicts how Hugh and Trinity build the army to combat the Almighties. Unlike the previous books, this one drags. As the author tries to build sexual tension between the two heroes, she builds frustration with the reader–the repetition of almost-kisses becomes monotonous, at times grating. And, Trinity’s “innocence” seems misplaced with the 20-something-year-old who has seen animals mate but does not understand mating between adults.

Other than that, the story introduces new characters, builds the foundation for war, and keeps me interested enough to buy the next book in the series. Hopefully, that book will resolve the romance and save the story.

I love this series! It's a page turner with non stop action, death, destruction, lies, secrets, rescues, escapes, hungry and wild predators...really? Who wouldn't want to read this? The movement of Allied Classes has begun while High High Truent was in prison for treason. His crime was trying to ensure that the world knew that all classes are similar in DNA. The Almighty's didn't want a rebellion but Trinity, Tim, Jackson, and Gaar along with a couple of surprise assets have engineered a plan of action. Now it's war. I can't wait for the next book! The minor issue of editing errors was distributing at times, but easier to overlook because I was devouring the story.

Hugh Truent sits in prison awaiting his execution and ruminating about his past and what lead him to his current situation. This story begins with a whirlwind of activity as a jail break interrupts Hugh's depressing thoughts. Trinity and Hugh fight the attraction that looms in the shadows when ever they are together. With more danger than safety in either of their futures, they each make difficult decisions that will ultimately lead to the war against the Almightys. This exhilarating narrative continues to build as more secrets are revealed. Can't wait to read the next installment!!!!!

Its War

After a daring plot to save Hugh from the gallows, Trinity wants him to lead them to war. All classes are in rebellion against the ruling class, The Almighty's. This book lays down the plan Hugh has for freeing the classes from their servitude. As in the other two books, the writing is cohesive, the characters fully explained, and the plot is awesome.

Great read.

This book was another great read I had trouble putting it down to get some things done or even go to bed and I took my time reading it because I didn't want to miss anything . A lot went on in this book and it fit in well with the others in the series. I recommend this series to anybody that likes some fantasy in a book.

Enthralling

Enthralling series continues to surprise as things don't go to plan again, and again. Will Hugh lead the revolution, will there even be one, or will the Almightys continue to reign supreme?

Exciting Progress!

I always know how I want it to go but it doesn't make it happen.
Curious as to how the new characters will develop if at all. One never knows. Anxious to read the next one in the series.

I liked bitchy Trinity less than the Trinity from previous books. I still love Hugh. Jethro lost a few points, but hopefully he recovers in the next book. I'm not sure I like the Trinity-Hugh ship, but we'll see.
Overall, really entertaining, action packed, and less dark than the previous book.

When I first looked up the book details I thought whoa, 565 pages, that is going to take me a while. But it went by so fast! I never imagined I would finish in just three days.

I cannot say this enough, L.S. O'Dea is such a talented writer. The pace is relentless but that does not mean that the world and character development is not satisfying, on the contrary. There is a lot going on but it is quite easy to follow and it only made me want to know what happened next.

It's a YA book, not my favourite genre, so there will always be things I don't particularly like as the characters end up sounding too dramatic for my taste. Trinity ticked me off a few times but I enjoy to see her keep growing.

There were quite a few repetitions - a lot of disgusted looks, for instance, and the way just felt forced and overdone, just like the excessive compliments on both Trinity and Hugh. I feel that their actions say enough, we don't need to be told several that Trinity is brave and honest, even through the voice of another character, or that Hugh really doesn't want more deaths on his conscience.

All in all I had a really good time reading this. Some parts made me laugh out loud, which earned me quite a few puzzled looks on the bus ride home, while others had me biting my nails. Some scenes were just so tense that I figuratively stood on my toes.

I can honestly say this is amongst the best YA reads I have stumbled upon and encourage you to pick up these books. This series has all the ingredients to become an epic.

Disclaimer: I would like to thank the author for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The world has moved on in the series with the action and political intrigue ramping up! Look for character growth and attitude in this plot twisting third selection from the Lake of Sins series.

Four years have passed. Hugh is sitting in a prison cell, to be hanged in a few days. He was betrayed by the Supreme Almighty and the governing council when he turned in his research proving the classes to be closely related. Instead of validating the science, all of his research or those Hugh entrusted copies to have disappeared. Hugh along with Trinity were accused of responsibility for all the deaths the night Viola was killed.

Trinity has been a fugitive since that fateful night. She and a band of varied classes have been living in the forest and fostering rebellion. The classes still stay mostly to themselves. Sections of the city have been claimed by varying factions, Guards, House Servants, Almightys. Even in the forest with a united goal, freedom for all classes, each group stays to their own. The most urgent need of the rebellion is someone all classes can stand behind. Uniting is the only hope of winning.

Trinity, Jackson, Tim and the other leaders have a plan to break Hugh out of the maximum security prison where he awaits death. All agree that with Hugh as the face of the rebellion, everyone will finally unite. No one has asked Hugh what he wants, he has cut himself off from everyone lest his tainted status should affect others.

Will Trinity and her team be able to pull off a rescue? Will Hugh agree to lead their army? Answer all your questions about the characters left behind in the last book. Grab Hangman's Army now.

Hugh Truent is in prison just days from his execution after talking about the genetic similarities between the classes after the evidence vanished and he was arrested for treason. To protect his family and everyone else he cares for he has ct off all ties with anyone outside of the prison and therefore he no idea that the reports were leaked and civil war is on the horizon. Trinity and her friends know they have no hope of winning the war that is on the way unless the classes can be united, and in order to achieve that they need Hugh. So they aim to break him out of the maximum-security prison so h can lead their army - however, this is not going to make someone happy as he is only focussed on revenge and not on leading a war. Can Mouthy (but attractive) Trinity persuade Hugh to help them by leading the rebel forces in order to win the war?

I really enjoyed this story which focussed for a large amount of time on the relationship between Hugh and Trinity. The number of deals and compromises that were needed by the characters was interesting and it was very dramatic at times. I loved the way the story is heading and can't wait to find out what happens next. Well written and very enjoyable, it helps to read the previous books but I feel you could get away with it as a stand-alone story - however, the box set of the first 3 books in the series would be a great introduction to the story.

The third book in the Lake of Sins series starts off about 5 years from where Secrets left us. The world has changed - Hugh is in jail (those in power did not take too kindly to his claims of genetic similarities between the classes), heading for execution. Unknown to him, his claims were leaked and the other classes are uprising - wanting equality.
This book starts out fast (after a little background) and just keeps going. Like the others in the series there's action, amusement and monsters (there has to be monsters). There's also the beginning of a romance that will help set the stage for the rest of the series.
Many of my beta readers said this is the best of the three - so if you liked Escape and Secrets - you should love this book. Get ready for a fun ride through the forest, swamps and city of the Lake of Sins.

After sitting in jail for years after his revelations that all classes are basicly the same were turned against him,all Hugh wants is to lock himself in a lab not lead an army. The secrets of his confusing heritage come to light which rules him out being Trinity’s uncle and the attraction to her grows stronger. And that is where this book lost a point! The want of a better word, banter, between Hugh and Trinity got on my nerves and took so much away from the actual plot and story. The rest of the storyline was every bit as gripping as the other books and now the reader has his/ her favourite characters and of course pet hates.
In the end all of the classes agree to work together for one common goal, to beat the Almighties.

Found guilty of treason, sentenced to death and awaiting execution, Hugh is rescued by Trinity and friends and he becomes a major supporter and leader in Trinity's band of rebels. War with the Almightys is here and the rebels need to come together as a cohesive unit, not bickering and fighting each other, if they are to take on the Almighty's army. I love how the story is progressing and can't wait for where it goes from here.

Hangman's Army is slightly more slow moving than Escape and Secrets in Blood and it does seem to focus more on the tension between Hugh and Trinity instead of the brewing revolution. That being said, I did enjoy the book and would recommend it; it ties up a lot of loose ends and keeps the story flowing forwards. I cannot wait to read Betrayed, book four in the series; I am rooting for the revolutionaries and really hope that they can pull together and come out on top.

This is the third book in the series and although not completely necessary I would encourage everyone to read the first two books (they are free so no excuse!). This book jumps a few years and so the characters are older, but they are just as captivating as they were before. Fans of dark paranormal romance should grab this series and sit back for an amazing read!

I started this series with the free first or prequel - Escape. It is so good and captivating that I knew I'd have to read more. When the opportunity to read ARC of this book came up, how could I not take it, especially as poor as I am? But it would have been worth cutting out a meal or two to get more of this series. Hangman's Army is an absolutely captivating read.

Another excellent instalment in the Lake of Sins trilogy. Things are really moving along with the AC movement and Hugh and friends, up against the old-world suppression of the Almightys. So much action, fighting, some love, some death, and a whole lot of questions that I'm dying to get answered in the next book please!

Just keeps getting better.

I read the first book and liked it. The second book was even better. Hangman's Army is even better. I can't wait to start Betrayed. L. S. O'Dea knows how to keep your attention and write a story that doesn't have parts that lag.
