A lady out for vengeance collides with the one man that can stand in her way.

The lady bent on vengeance.
Lady Canton has a list. A list of men she is ruining, one by one. The work is satisfying—as each and every one of the despicable men deserves it—and if Livia has to bend the rules of propriety for success—so be it. What she doesn’t anticipate is a past love barging into her life, determined to stop her.

The man that will stand in her way.
Lady Canton threw him over years ago to marry a lecherous old fool for his title, so the last thing Lord Reggard wants is to entangle himself with her again. But when Livia threatens to ruin one of his best friends, Tieran is forced to take matters into his own hands to stop her.

A second chance at first love.
Livia never stopped loving him, and Tieran is intent on using that fact to his advantage. Never mind the callousness of his actions—his loyalty to Livia died years ago and he has no desire to revisit the past with her. Yet the past may be the one thing Tieran cannot escape, and he may very well discover he never stopped loving her as well.

Note: The books in the Lords of Action series by K.J. Jackson are each stand-alone stories and can be read individually in any order. These historical romances are set in the Regency and Victorian eras, and do not shy away from scenes with steamy heat, occasional naughty language, and moments that might possibly make you squirm.

The prologue is beyond adorable.
Followed by quite a convoluted tale of lost love, traumatic events, marriages to other people, secrets, OTT vengeance plans, love-hate-love and some exaggerated villainy to top it all.
But instead of making for intense passions, the book has mild regrets, continuing secretiveness, miscommunications, bland and grudging feelings and some really hazy treatment at the crucial points that left me crazy and dissatisfied. And loopholes aplenty.

*Rambling rant*

I really enjoy how these separate standalone books are so tied together. I have read each book and each series and always completed the book satisfied that the story had been told. I never longed for any loose ends to be tied in a to be continued loop of endless sequels.

With each release, I've been delighted to see the stories continue from an entirely different perspective. This book was no different. I had encountered the hero and heroine in another book in the same scene and never tied the two together. Bravo to the author. I loved it.

I won't discuss the content of the books because you can read it yourself. This book captured my attention and held on tight. Both leads were engaging and strong. I love a book where the female lead takes no prisoners and works to achieve her goals. This heroine was just such a person. Although our hero and heroine were broken, they paved a course for their lives and succeeded. That's what I like in a historical romance.

What a powerful book. KJ Jackson dares to tackle a subject that so few do.
When Livia and Tieran meet and kiss in the first few pages, I thought that the book would be a journey of their relationship. It was, only not in the way that I thought. There was love, pain, revenge, deceit, mistrust, twists, turns, misunderstandings and more. This truly was an emotional journey for both the characters and myself.
I agree with another reviewer that while some of the scenes and situations were uncomfortable to read, they kept meet engaged and wanting to know how it would all end.
As with all of Ms. Jackson's books, I highly recommend this one.
I did receive an ARC of the book. The choice to read and review it was all mine.

I'm sorry, but I hated Liv, and her friend was obviously going to be a nutter, given her weird pushiness about the list. I don't get why Reggard was so pussywhipped that he put up with her vendetta BS. Just... disappointing.

My first reading of Ms Jackson and all I can say is Superb! The emotion pull of when Tieran speaks of his war time had me with tears pouring down my face! Liv is such a tough heroine! Their love for one another is over the top! Highly recommend!

Well written historical romance with some danger, revenge and passion. Livid and Tieran have both survived some rough situations to have a HEA.

A very emotional book with one of the kidnapped young girls as the main character. At what point is there too much vengeance? At what point does vengeance make a person no better than the victim?

Vengeance is not always best served cold

I think I have read books by this author before and liked them. This one was a little off-kilter for me. Too much of it hinged on past wrongs and vengeance, or how the past had changed the course of people’s lives. The latter isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it felt like the characters were going through a loop set on repeat—especially Livia. Sometimes when you’re in the midst of a situation it isn’t as clear what’s really happening, but to me it was pretty easy to see that Viola was using Livia to do all of the dirty work for her. It wasn’t a huge surprise what ended up happening to her. I thought Livia might have been a little more clever, but she had completely fallen for Viola’s schemings. Innocent men may have very well been on that list—we’ll never know because Livia just took Viola’s word for it. She should have started to guess when the runner could find nothing out of the ordinary about Bisholm. I just felt a bit let down by the story and the characters. If Livia had learned so much compassion, etc. from Lord Canton, I don’t think she would have fallen in with Viola in the first place. I just didn’t find it completely convincing.

An emotional rollercoaster of a romance!

Emotionally charged, packed with passion, tension, suspence and torment. A well crafted and written story that will entice, make you question humanity and, like all Jackson's romances,  stay with you long after the last page is turned.
Jackson never fails to grab my interest at the first word and keeps me emotionally entangled until the end and 'Oath' is no exception. It has engaging characters with dark and tormented pasts, a spark infused passion and a soul deep - heart wrenching - love that pulls and tears at your heart strings making you smile, tingle and cry throughout. Utterly fabulous. A romance immersed in darkness and grit and drenched in torment, doubt and the seeking of redemption not through the characters set path of vengeance but in a greater level of connection, understanding and acceptance between the leads, Liv and Tieran. I highly recommend this HEA read (even if you have yet to read the other books in the series).

Bravo! Absolutely Amazing

I read a lot ! Finding the overall quality of writing Ms. Jackson has produced in "Oath", is rare. I don't give 5 stars easily. Proofreading was excellent. Writing such moving and emotional material and not including one foul word is amazing today. It really shows true talent. This story that tells about kidnapping, whether it happens today or back in the 1800's shows how wrong, how horrifying to the victim it is. The pain that can lead to something good or to self destruction. Clearly the path only the victim can choose. Liv chose to take something horrible and make something positive where Viola ended in madness. Ms. Jackson took steamy intimacy scenes to a sensual level and captures the essence of what love is. No cheating or cliffhanger and Liv and Tieran get their Happy Ever After. Enjoy

The protagonist is a strong character. Undergoes a number of obstacles in life but that makes her stronger. She is now on the road to vengeance. During that journey she reconnects with her first love.
Often in these stories of first love and separation you find the reason for separation to be very flimsy and you feel that is so unbelievable. However in the case of this book, that was not the case. There was nothing else the heroine could have done.
The portrayal of her hero is also quite convincing. Of a man with some negativity, some hate but who once he is behind the protagonist he is all in no matter what.
All in all an enjoyable read.

Oath by K.J. Jackson is a phenomenal historical romance. Ms. Jackson has given readers a delightful, well-written book populated with an incredible cast of characters. Tieran is the Earl of Reggard and leaves Liv to go off to war. He returns from war to find Liv had married an old man. When they meet again years later, Liv is involved in something that makes her look like a merry widow. Liv and Tieran's story is packed with drama, humor, melt your e-reader sex, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading Oath and look forward to my next book by K.J. Jackson. Oath is book 3 of the Lords of Action Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Saving the Best for Last!

In my opinion the story of Tieran Lord Reggard and Liv must have been the best in the series. The Author may say each book is a standalone story (which I agree to some extent) but it would behoove the reader to start with Vow, Promise, then Oath. The unfolding of the story—-virgins sold at auction in a brothel—-in all 3 books makes it more meaningful to understand the chain of events. The second chance at love premise of this story was not sappy—-but it did make me shed a tear or two. Love, indeed is better the second time around. I can’t put this book down.

After reading the first two Lords of Action novels, I was eager to find out what would happen to Reggard after losing both his wife and child. His extreme grief and self blame was very evident, so I was curious to find out what would happen next for him. This turns out to be a second chance romance with a lot of complications. However, it is not a light read, there is a good amount of darkness and vengeance. It is an emotional tale with many twists and turns. As in all three books, there are a good amount of steamy scenes. This captivating story is a satisfying conclusion to this series.

I enjoy books that are standalone but can also be read as a series. Doesn’t push me to read this rest but if the book/storyline is good enough to capture my interest I will. This is my first book in the series and it is the third book in the standalone series. I enjoyed it, I personally didn’t see the twist coming which is quite a refreshing turn of events. The story completed at the end and that is satisfying that I didn’t have to purchase the next book, if there was one, to fulfil any loose ends.

I may end up reading number one and two in this standalone series. Unsure what the actually call it, however, both leads were captivating and the book captured my attention from the get go. The heroine fully captured my attention with her take no shit attitude. She was truly a character and I loved the fact that these two knew each other previously. I adore those stories, just such fun. Both the heroine and hero had been through a lot and had situations in their lives that they had to right.

What more could you want in a historical romance than misunderstandings, revenge, pain, mistrust and supposed unrequited love? Obviously there are a few situations that happen that are not very believable but it is a fictitious tale after all. It’s an enjoyable read nonetheless. There was many different emotions jam-packed in one story it was like a rollercoaster of emotions, but in a good way. There were a lot of feelings and uncomfortableness in this one.

This book sort of reminded me of the devil in the Duke. That book moved me so deeply and I was certain I wanted another just like it. But someone from the beginning of this book to the middle I couldn’t quite relate to the characters or feel much pity for Liv. When Tieran said she still had her innocence inside her, that felt like a load of bullsh*t. There’s nothing innocent about bringing men to ruin. To me it felt the author was kinda desperate to recreate The Devil In The Duke but did a poor job this time.

Loved the final book

The story of Liv and Teiran was a great conclusion to the series. A second chance for two characters we have met in the previous two books in the series. We are how everything comes together and the strength of love trust and forgiveness. He is mystery, suspense a bit of steam and finally answers to some questions you may have had in the series. I would recommend, though they can be read in any order, I read the series. in order. Things will make a bit more sense in order. Great author, love her books.

This is a Keeper!

This is an excellent choice for a Sunday afternoon. The storyline is engaging and passionate. Livie suffers a life changing trauma that changes her into a vindictive and scrupulous crusader. Tieran goes to war and comes back a monster from traumatic experiences he suffered in the war. This is so well written that you're right there with them. Supporting characters are empowering and support the storyline perfectly. K.J. Jackson has a hit.

Depicted in the Victorian age, Livia is only 16 and too young for marriage. Her temperament too rash with no forethought to her actions. That's where Tieran, the 13th Earl of Reggard comes into play.
This is the first book of K.J. Jackson's I've read so had no preconceived ideas as to what to expect. That being said, this is a quick, easy read with predicable characters. I enjoyed the story line with it's twist and turns. A second chance at love to pass the time.

Loved this...couldn't put it down! Fighting for others who are innocent of evil men's desires was an interesting plot with just the right amount of action and romance.

Great book with suspense, action, and romance fighting to thwart the evil desires of men and stay true to herself.

DNF around 50%. I usually give a wide berth to regency romances, as they’re basically just a way to help me fall asleep The plot and timeline in this book are convoluted, and made worse by the awkward writing style. I got sick of trying to understand what was happening to these unlikable characters. I made it to the first sex scene, which was a true eye roller, and will not be finishing.

An excellent read

Enjoyed the strong characters each with their own demons that drive them both away from each other and pull them together. There are obsessions that overpower many of us.

Oath

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters in this series. The hero, tried to be a gentle giant. He was worried that people would think he a monster. I was set not like the heroine, but she redeemed herself. I recommend this book and this author.

Enjoyed

Delves into the time where woman, had no rights. Where actions against women were always their faults. Amazing story, beautiful characters. You will cheer on the heroine, and fall in love with the hero, as he realizes he still loves her.

Good reading.

Enjoyed this book over the weekend. Somewhat different than most regency romance novels. Twists and turns kept my interest up as I was trying to figure out what the "list" was.

Boring

Not bad but by the time I got to chapter 7 I quit out of boredom. The two main characters are somewhat shallow. They’re hot & cold with each other... over and over. I stopped caring about them and the mystery that would explain their actions.
