Sabrina Lark is a muse who has the ability to inspire any man…to do absolutely anything. Unfortunately for Sabrina, the latest human to fall under her spell has turned out to have one very dark side. Now he’s obsessed with her, and she’s realized—too late—that she just inspired a serial killer. She truly has the worst luck in the world.
Desperate, Sabrina makes a deal with the devil in order to get some serious paranormal protection. Her protection comes in the oh-so-sexy form of Adam Cross, a man who is able to resist her magic…because Adam really is made of stone.
He’s a real beast on the outside…
Cursed centuries before, Adam is a gargoyle. Fierce, strong, and absolutely unstoppable, he is the guard who is placed at Sabrina’s side. He’s supposed to protect her from every danger…he is not supposed to find himself falling under the seductive Sabrina’s spell. But even a man with a heart of stone can find himself pushed too far…
Sabrina thinks she may have found the perfect lover, but Adam’s past is about to come back and bite them both…and he may not be the man she can trust, after all. If she can’t find a way to touch the man inside the beast, if she can’t make his stone heart burn for her, then they’ll be lost.

This hero had me swooning through the whole book, the way he called the heroine "sweetheart" made my heart melt!!
“And the way he was talking…the way he was staring at her as if she were the only thing that mattered in his entire world" ~Sabrina “I will never want another this way. Just you” ~Adam
4 - "It's the pretty faces that hide the worst monsters..." Stars!
I love me some Cynthia Eden, and the fifth book in the Bad Things Series epitomizes exactly why she is one of my top PNR favorites.
Lots of characters all with their own special something, a long-running story arc that plays out while each of the leads meet and fall for their special someone’s, with lots of action, twists, turns and sexy times to keep things moving along.
Heart of Stone delivered on all of the above counts, and I cannot wait to finally get my hands on Leo’s book; Tempted by Fate due for release in April, YAY!
Can I just start by saying how much I love this series? It's the perfect blend of paranormal romance with a little suspense thrown in as the author teases her readers with a story arc involving two very special brothers. Yet each book brings to light a convincing romance that just leaves me salivating for more. There's always a twist at the end and I think readers are just loving the match making skills of a certain character who is clearly by no means all bad. There's a juxtaposition here as we are left scratching our heads trying to work out the good from the bad and personally I'm going to be a little sad when it all comes to ahead . Essentially we are catching up with two characters who we have briefly met before yet uncannily they hadn't met each other and no spoilers but it's a doozy of a secret. Sabrina is a Muse no that's not quite right because she just happens to be the last Muse on Earth. You would imagine that's a good thing but not really because her innate ability can inspire humans to greatness or can enable them to embrace power and madness. She needs help and it comes in the shape of the cursed hunk of rock that is gargoyle Adam! Adam will protect Sabrina from a murderer but can he protect her from learning his own secrets? From the outset the passion that burns between this couple is palpable but there's no awful insta love although they do ahem 'connect' pretty quickly. They truly have a very tricky problem or two to solve with Leo and Luke aiding although at times it does seem more like hindering! That's the beauty of this series as the author keeps us guessing. I adore bad boy Luke as he is such a schemer but I am left anxiously waiting to see just what becomes of his twin Leo .
Worst Line: “She kissed him with skill, with sensuality. After all, Sabrina knew how to kiss.”
Personal Review: Another good romance in this paranormal series. The heroine was slightly more annoying than the previous heroines but the hero made up for it.
Random Ramblings •What a ‘gift’ to have •I lose patience when people don’t get the point •Call me heartless but if the psychopath I am running away from tells me to come to him otherwise he will kill an unknown woman…I would stay away
[image error]
•Cannot wait for Leo’s story •I really felt for Adam •I know this was supposed to be a romance with a happy ending for, for once, I would have been happy with her sacrifice of leaving him
(Update: 9 Jun 22) Adding extra tags/shelves. I'm finally organizing more lol. BTW, Why did I write so small reviews before? These days I write so long 🤣.
(Review: 2019)
5 stars for Sabrina who broke Adam's Heart of stone.
This book gives us the last living Muse, who has found herself becoming the obsession of the one she was meant to inspire and a cursed gargoyle tasked with her protection.
Whilst Sabrina isn't my favourite heroine in the series she's ok.
Sabrina is a muse and inspires people to be their best selves but sometimes the people that fall under her spell are bad people and her powers bring out the worst possible sides of them. So now Eric, a serial killer is after her because she inspired him to be his best self and that made his serial killer tendencies come to life.
Adam is sent to keep her safe and eliminate Eric, who is after her but Adam is a gargoyle so he's immune to her powers which makes it easier for her to be around him since she doesn't have to worry about him falling under her influence.
Sabrina and Adam are both the last of their kind so they have that in common and they are attracted to each other pretty much right from the start. Sabrina could see his aura which scared her at first because she thought he was dark and bad but Adam isn't all bad. I really loved how they spoke to one another, they were so much fun!
Adam is kept on his toes when her ex comes after her time and time again and he can't find a way to kill the man. When Sabrina puts herself in harms way to save not only a victim but Adam, he's really not used to having anyone care about him like that and it amazes and infuriates him.
I love gargoyles and I don't see a lot of them in the books I read even though I read a lot of paranormal type romance books, so I was really happy to see a gargoyle in this one. There were a lot of twists and plenty of action in this story to keep me engaged and waiting to see what would happen next.
Heart of Stone is a love story of a muse and a gargoyle. Both have had tough hands dealt to them and neither have had it easy. But with Sabrina in trouble and needing a protector, and Adam one of the only people in the world immune to her charms, they team up to keep Sabrina safe and stop the man who has become obsessed with her.
I enjoyed this story and I loved the banter and connection between Sabrina and Adam. I also love how this really set up for the final book in the series. I did find a few things a bit too convenient, as well as plot holes that made it hard to completely fall into this story. It was still a fun read, enjoyable and full of action and romance. I would still recommend it to fans of this series. I look forward to Leo’s book to see how this will all play out.
Another good edition to this series. Again, this book is tied to an earlier book in the series (Julian and Rose) so I recommend reading these books in order. I think you'll enjoy them better.
This one was really good. I seriously cried at the end of this book. With this series, Cynthia just has a way of pulling at your heart strings. I honestly didn't know how she was going to resolve things in the end.
Even though this series is entitled "Bad Things" none of them are truly bad. They are just the dark side of the world so they are seen as bad. That's not to say there aren't real bad things out there but Luke has control and does what he can to keep things under control. He has a plan. His character is truly a delight in this series. He should have a whole series of T-shirt slogans with his brilliance. LOL
♥ Luke seemed incredibly pleased with himself. “I swear, it’s like the world wants to bend to my will.” The entire scene gives better context to this line but trust me, it was humorous.
A gargoyle and a muse, not a catch line to a joke...well not in this case anyway. Sabrina is the badass and sassy muse who is 1/3 of the fallen Angels “pack” and Adam is the gargoyle that now works for the Lord of the Dark aka my Luke. Sabrina goes to Luke for protection from an obsessed serial killer ex boyfriend, and what she gets is the best protection she can with Adam, the invincible gargoyle. Did I mention that since Sabrina is a muse, she can convince pretty much anyone to do anything, yeah, and she’s the last of her kind...and so is Adam by the way. I loved his back story and how he became a gargoyle, such a great story. I love the idea of gargoyles, but make no mistake, being one comes with a heavy price.
Great storyline. As with this entire series, so many twist and turns...and wth moments. This was a safe read. These two were hot af. Loved all their heat. Their story at one point had me crying like the baby I am, all the emotional feels. One thing to know about Sabrina is not only is she a sassy badass...but she is persistent, and doesn’t give up. Love that little quality. HEA.
"But you aren't good, are you sweetheart?" Her gaze searched his "Why do you keep calling me sweetheart? You don't know me.I'm nothing to you" "The way you talk...you could be everything to me"
It's my first book by the author and it did spark my interest in reading all the other books in the series. This is one of those action packed paranormal love story with a dash of sexy times.Did enjoy it,but all the time I had a feeling something is missing in the story,So 3,5/5 stars
Sabrina is a muse, possibly the last one ever. And she's on the run. She inspired someone to greatness, but she didn't see that he also had an underlying madness. Her inspiration led him to achieve so many amazing things, but it also brought out the psychopath he kept hidden. By the time she realized how he was, it was too late.
She was one of the creatures captured in the first couple of books, and while she was away from him, the evil side of his nature came to the front. She knows the only way she can stop him is to get help and make a deal with the devil. Or, the Lord of the Dark, Luke.
Luke offers her a bodyguard, and in return, she'll owe him. And Luke always collects.
Adam can't be killed; he's made of stone. Literally. He's a gargoyle. And he's Sabrina's new bodyguard. His job is to keep her safe, and to eliminate the threat to her. But her threat is harder to kill than they first thought, and he keeps finding Sabrina no matter where she goes.
There's a twist at the end that kind of surprised me, but boy does it make the book. I love the Bad Things series, and I love the direction it's going. I can't wait for Leo's book! Cynthia Eden has created one of my favorite series with this one, and I hope that Leo's book isn't the end.
She was created to tempt... and enchant. Sabrina Lark is a muse who has the ability to inspire any man... to do absolutely anything. Unfortunately for Sabrina, the latest human to fall under her spell has turned out to have one very dark side. Now he’s obsessed with her, and she’s realized-to late- that she just inspired a serial killer. She truly has the worst luck in the world. Desperate, Sabrina makes a deal with the devil in order to get some serious paranormal protection. If she can’t find a way to touch the man inside the beast, is she can’t make his stone heart burn for her, then they’ll be lost.
‘“The best way to fight a monster,” he continued in that low rumble that was his voice, “is with a monster. Don’t worry, I have the perfect beast in mind for you.” Once again, Sabrina shivered.’
Adam was assigned to Sabrina as her paranormal bodyguard after she inspires the wrong man. For the both of them, on the outside it seems like hate at first sight, not inside there’s much more to it. Much more attraction and secrets.
“Simon needed the heart from a vampire, the wings of an angel, the lips of a witch, and the inspiration from a muse.”
Sabrina was held captive over her long life. She had so many horrible things done to her and almost faced death more than once. She feels like she was only created to inflict evil and darkness, even though she tries to tell herself different. Adam sees this and knows that she was made for much more. That she is, much more.
“It’s the pretty faces that hide the worst monsters.”
Well said. We put our trust in a pretty face and sometimes it can lead up down a road full of destruction and chaos.
“You are strong and you are brave and you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you, and I am not going to let you die.”
Honestly, Adam and Sabrina’s story made me almost bawl my eyes out. I did get a little teary near the end but it all worked out, thank God!
“Evil lives in some people,” Adam rasped, cutting through Leo’s words. “No matter how hard they try to fight it... it’s there.”
No one can tell you who or what you are. You can only decide that for yourself. I think both Adam and Sabrina had such a difficult time trying to discover and find that out for themselves.
“I knew the power wasn’t in your eyes. Or your voice. You’re no siren.” His hand rose and presses over her heart. “It’s in here.”
I love Adam and all but dangit Papa Luke just steals the show every time! How cute is he?! How adorable is Papa Luke in all his matchmaking pretending to be bad glory?!
Ok srsly Papa Luke has got some serious matchmaking powers. He's Lord of Love. Yum.
Ok ok now on to the story! I've been waiting for Adam's story ever since his first appearance because hello, gargoyle? A gargoyle love story? Written by Cynthia Eden? It's guaranteed gonna be epic. And Cynthia Eden never fails me! She has done it again!
Adam and Sabrina are perfect for each other. The heroine who makes men crazy (literally)and the Hero with a heart of stone. A match made in Papa Luke heaven. Their romance has got to be the fastest paced CE has ever written; despite not having the "you're my mate" insta love effect shifters have, Adam and Sabrina get together pretty quickly and without difficulty [SPOILER] It literally takes just one night! [END SPOILER]
Although I loved it - 5 star rating! - I felt that Sabrina mirrored Mina quite a bit. The first third of the book I'd get serious deja vu feelings reading about Sabrina. Mina and Sabrina have very similar powers - and similar history - I think they'd be really good friends! Get together and wreak havoc *giggle* It wasn't necessarily a bad thing to have the heroines alike but it did confuse me quite a bit at the start. Bit Sabrina grows into her own character so halfway through I wasn't even thinking of Mina anymore!
And as usual Leo is still the most hated character in the entire series. And to be honest I'm not even excited for his book. But of course I'll read it - because I wanna see what happens to the previous couple. In my opinion Leo doesn't deserve a happy ever after. I also wish CE would give Cordelia a book.
From the imagination of Cynthia Eden comes an unlikely romance between a muse and a gargoyle. In her usual style the characters are very dimensional and interesting. The action and dialogue kept the story moving, keeping me in suspense if there really was going to be a HEA. That's the great thing about her books, even if you know they're romance and require that happy ending, you forget along the way as the story grabs you and pulls you in.
Great book. I have the next one waiting for me on my Kindle.
Cynthia Eden is the best! I love her, I seriously don't think there is anything she could write that I wouldn't like. This was great, I loved it. Adam and Sabrina had such great chemistry and when they were pulled apart my heart broke for them. Totally made me tear up. Luke is fabulous, seriously I can't get enough of him. I can't wait to see what's in store for Leo. Eeeek the suspense is killing me.
Just a mini-review for this one because Adam and Sabrina didn’t grab me as much as the other books in this series did.
What I liked best about this story was that it had once again Cynthia Eden’s style – a good plot-line, action-packed scenes, and a lot of secrets.
Once again, Leo was a total douchebag (I’m coming to expect that of him now) and Luke was awesome (picture stars in my eyes). I loved the ending, Luke’s part in it especially.
And I also liked, how we get one more piece of the puzzle of Leo Douchebag, that is, Fate, which makes the storyline for the last story.
I try so hard to not hate heroines, because they so often get unfair hate in books, but man I couldn't stand Sabrina. I'm not even entirely sure why. I know I never bought her love for Adam. I hate hearing about the heroes or heroines past lovers in books and that is all we heard in this book, about Sabrina's past lovers. I didn't buy that Adam was the "one" for her at all,
In Cynthia Woolf’s new series, “A Heart Wish Mail Order Bride Novel,” the author combines her famous mail order bride theme with paranormal overtones. Caitlyn is an angel who, in 2020, was murdered by her abusive husband... Since then, she has been in Purgatory where she must wait until she receives her wings. However, Gabriel explains first she must earn her wings.
For one week, Caitlyn will return to Earth as a mortal. She will be a mail order bride for Lucas, a rancher, whose wife and two sons died, six years ago, from influenza. Her mission: she must “heal” his heart during that week and make him fall in love with her. The year: June 7, 1880.
My favorite parts of the book are when Caitlyn “lands” on Earth and meets Lucas. She must acclimate herself to the world of 1880. Over and over she instinctually reaches for her cell phone to look up information. She cannot believe how many clothes women must wear, even in the extreme heat. Nor does she understand how anyone can work wearing a corset, when she can barely breathe with it on. It is also interesting when Lucas explains that there should be no “public displays of affection” even though they are married.
Another style change in this story, Ms. Woolf includes a lot of sex. However, it is the loving sex between a husband and wife who are newlyweds. These are beautiful scenes where the couple expresses their love for each other. In fact, the couple refers to it as “making love.”
Ms. Woolf also includes some evil and very dangerous villains. They are mortals who are referred to as Angel Hunters who have sold their souls to the devil. Their mission: destroy the “heart wish angels” by stealing their powers.
I totally enjoyed the twist Ms. Woolf has given to her mail order bride novels. Although I am not a paranormal fan, this author skillfully creates a story that transcends the both genres.
I am impatiently awaiting the next book in this series!
"Heart of Stone" by Cynthia Eden. Book 5 in the Bad Things series.
Loved it! Adam and Sabrina are two characters that were introduced in the second book of the series "On The Prowl". Sabrina is a muse and was being held prisoner and Adam is a gargoyle and was an unwilling guard where Sabrina was being held.
In this book, Sabrina is running for her life. Her ex is obsessed with her and wants her back. But Sabrina is a muse and unfortunately her powers inspired the evil within her ex-boyfriend and now he's become a murderer. She needs protection and the only one she can ask for help is Luke, the Lord of the Dark, himself. A deal is made, but she didn't expect the protector that Luke sends.
Adam is on a mission. It's his job to protect the muse Sabrina. There's no way she can manipulate him because he's a gargoyle. Made of stone, through and through. Should he tell her he was there during her time held captive by a madman? Does it really matter? She's the most gorgeous woman he's ever met and she needs his help. Her ex is tracking her somehow and Adam is determined to keep Sabrina safe.
I loved this story. I must say, first off, the chemistry between Sabrina and Adam is off the charts HOT HOT HOT!!! WOW! The most steamy of all the couples so far in my opinion. The story line in this book is really good. The ex-boyfriend is a great villain and really does exude evilness. Lots of action in this book. Great twists to the plot. Very emotional as well. The ending of this book was brilliant. My favourite of the series. The plot is so twisted at the end, I found myself shaking my head thinking "WHAT?!? That is messed up! And I love it!" So well done. The story flows really well and there's never a dull moment.
I am absolutely loving this series and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A paranormal romance that I devoured !
Back to school requires me to find books that I'm sure I'll like with light and sexy romances ... So of course I turned to Cynthia Eden =)
I really liked this book with the whole story of the creepy ex, Sabrina the muse (hello Sandman !) who ends up with a gargoyle bodyguard (by the way I loved the whole story about the origins of the gargoyles!) and of course Luke's shenanigans =)
I'm curious to read the story with Leo which intrigues me a lot =)
In short, a sexy and suspenseful romance to devour without moderation !
I love Cynthia Eden's paranormal romances. You can always count on her for unusual paranormal beings, a sexy love story, and of course a happy ever after. This book had a muse and a gargoyle and the usual cast of characters from this series. I honestly don't think I've ever read a story with a muse. Gargoyles yes muse no. It was intriguing the way she inspires folks. And her inspiration usually backfires on her. That is where the serial killer comes in. I was so glad she found Adam and that he was immune to her powers because hello gargoyle. Adam has issues of his own and the serial killer clues into one his problems and capitalizes on it. But it all works out in the end. I love that Luke is playing match maker and even Leo gets in on the act. I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for consideration of a review and I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I give it 5 stars and if you click below you can buy your own copy and if you've not read this series why not? If you love paranormal romance series with a great group of characters and unusual paranormal beings this is for you.
I want to say this book was written by a 13 year old but I'm pretty sure there are 13 year old that can do much better.
How this book has an overall rating of 4.25 is beyond me. It is lazy, the sex scenes are silly as fuck. Cynthia Eden's idea of steamy includes inserting words like "sex," "thrust," and "tighten" to a passage. Nothing like hearing about how he thrusts into her sex to get you hot and bothered am I right?
The entire 'paranormal romance' genre really needs to be canceled. It just breeds a lot of silly writing. Writers no longer bother with creating a connection between their main characters, they just stick one with a mumbo jumbo aura that gives everyone a hardon, give the other a flimsy resistance to said aura (that we only see for one chapter) and stick them in a room.
Wouldn't even recommend to my worst enemies (assuming I had any).
Sabrina is the last Muse to walk the earth and she has a stalker who is hurting women because he won't physically hurt her, his Muse. She goes to Luke for help and Luke is back at his machinations and his match-making because he sends Adam Cross to be her protector and to eliminate the threat. When they get together the action is as explosive as the passion and the stalker is one crazy SOB. The story has some emotional tension and Sabrina has to let Adam go in the end to save him, or so she thinks, which adds to the tension and pulls the reader into the heartbreak and the joy when they get back together in the end. I enjoyed the story and the characters were strong and interesting. Another good one in the Bad Things series :-)
To say I got 100% lost in this book is putting it mildly. I got lost in THE BEST WAY in Heart Of Stone. I got swept away by the paranormal thrills, the sexy and heart felt romance and the whole bucketful of feels!
Cynthia Eden takes me away EVERY time with her incredible paranormal romances! Her A Bad Things novels are my favorite series. I love the heat from the romance, the thrill from the action, and the unbelievably AMAZING paranormals that we find in these books. I fall HARD for each character from this series and Adam and Sabrina melted my heart and I loved every sizzling moment, every heart-stopping, action-packed one as well! I have always had a fascination with gargoyles and the way Cynthia Eden created Adam, yea, I am in LOVE. Miss Eden's A Bad Things books just get better and better. Every one is more intense than the last. Miss Eden knows how to wrench your heart out of your chest and then bring you one heck of a ending that will put your heart back together again and have you LOVING the feeling! I so enjoy a book that feels like I am free falling from a cliff without a parachute..the adrenaline gets me every time and I can't get enough of it, and Cynthia Eden brings that feeling, Every. Single. Time.
Heart of Stone deserves a TEN...no a GAZILLION STARS...but I will settle for A STUNNING, HEART-STOPPING FIVE SHOOTING STARS! If you LOVE your paranormal romances with plenty of feels, twists, and unforgettable characters, you will LOVE Heart Of Stone!
You don't see too many gargoyles out there. And you don't run across a lot of muses. So the pairing in Heart of Stone is doubly unusual. That's one of the things that I have liked about this series, it's not about just one thing. There are vampires, shifters, angels, demons, sirens, mermaids, dragons, and witches. Anything and everything seems to get thrown into the mix. And it's done so well that it all makes sense. Adam and Sabrina aren't your typical couple but they still manage to make plenty of sparks fly. At the end of the day, Sabrina may be too smart for her own good. There is no way to find out except to keep on reading.
