“You want me to go to Inner Haven…you want me to be a spy.”
Standing in the church outside of the city, Brie is still in shock. She has a brother, a twin. She isn’t alone after all….
Her world is changing fast. And soon it’ll be her turn. As her powers begin to manifest, and her training begins, Brie finds herself trying to juggle her changing body with her mission. A mission that she doesn’t truly understand.
Soon, however, the truth of what she’s been tasked to do will dawn. And as another attack from the Fanatics rocks the city, Brie finds herself drawn into making a terrible choice.
Take a life to save a life. And maybe help stop a war…
If possible, I think I loved this book even more than the first one. Fabulous dystopian young adult series. I can't wait for the next book in this series! Highly recommended. Awesome and then some!
This book revealed a few secrets and filled in some of the back story with Brie and Zander. I am not convinced that after finding his long lost sister he plans to send her on suicide mission without a thought for how she's feeling. Brie is torn between her old life and her mission but the safety of her friends is paramount. Facing an impossible choice I wonder if she will choose a different way.
Another edge of your seat read as Brie becomes embroiled... She's trying to figure out what and who she is. This one starts right after the last one ends and I expect the next to do the same.
Brie is being pulled in a few directions here and who to trust is quickly in question. The book ends on a massive cliffhanger. Brie has a bit more backbone perhaps in this book but it would be nice if she had more.
I thought the first book in this series wasn’t great but I persevered. My friend is a fan and recommended these to me so I wanted to give it a really good go.
That was a mistake. As if the series couldn’t get any worse. I simply do not care about the lead protagonist, nor any of the people in this book. The character development is non existent. If the whole of Haven blew up and that was the end of it I wouldn’t miss anybody. The merit of a good book is when it upsets you if any of the characters were to die - and when Brie and Drums friends die (whose names I’ve forgetten as we are made to care so little about them) I couldn’t give a toss.
Where has Tess gone? Wasn’t she meant to be important?
This book is honestly so boring I am upset with myself for reading it, bar the last chapter. I couldn’t finish it, reading this was actual torture.
One thing that irked me to no end was the cringeworthy way Brie and her long lost brother referred to each other as ‘bro’ and ‘sis’ throughout the book.
I could say more about what I didn’t like but I’ve wasted enough energy on this series.
Not my cup of tea.

This series has a good story, and I liked the characters. My only issue, and this continued through all 10 books, is the repetitiveness of all the statements. I can only read "I hate him" (in different words or the same, doesn't matter) so many times before I am sick of hearing it. So, in the later books, I found that I could spot another paragraph that would summarize the same feelings again and I was skipping paragraphs because it was just text with nothing actually happening. The character's inner dialogue was not that important in the story... which brings me to think that this might be nit-picky and maybe this was just a younger reading level (a teen might need these things spelled out for them). However, I would not want my young child reading about the wars, because of the (very well done) descriptions of blood and gore. So, good reads, they drew me in and kept me reading, but I could have used less repetition over the known info and known feelings.
Eh. This is one of those books where you like curtain aspects of it but overall it's just kinda meh but because there are pieces you find interesting it makes you curious to see if the next book would be better but you know it won't be. I like the world building in this and I'm curious to know what the outside the city is like but I don't like the MC and a lot of the story just felt like it dragged for me. :|
I have the omnibus edition of this series so will just say that book two furthers the tale in which Brie discovers more of the truth about her past, the Savants and Enhanced.
She must embark upon a mission...
It's a fast-paced story with a great writing style, however, it does need a thorough proofread to catch the typos and grammatical mistakes. Having said that, it's still a fascinating story and worth reading, if rather short.
I think the trope is really interesting. I would love to know what happens, but I feel like the story is too stretched out over too many books. I got to like the 4th book I’m the series until I got tired of the stringing me along. I really like the characters and all that, but after the first two books it seems like nothing is really happening, cliffhangers and all that jazz. I still want to know what happens; might continue later on.
I know that this is only the second book of a very large series and usually that means that there are a few areas that are a bit dragged out but I can honestly say that I didn't feel that way too many times during this installment. There were enough new things revealed and still mysteries left unturned to continue reading this series
It was ok. I liked book one a lot more. Hopefully book three will have less far fetched action and more story. Also, I really enjoyed the character's personality in book one. She became kinda cranky and demanding in book two. Not a bad story but not as good as I'd hoped.
The second in this thrilling dystopian series zips along at a frenetic pace which will keep your eyes glued to the page. In this instalment, Brie is learning more about the workings of Inner Haven, about Zander and about herself and her own abilities. Once again we're left on a thrilling cliffhanger which makes you want to pick the next book up right away. A highly enjoyable read.
Another daring story and and ending that you won't expected. With a lot of thrills in the book it will keep you on the edge of the seat. This is an excellent book to read if you love action interwoven with supernatural abilities and an enemy that seems to big to stand up too.
Great story! Could have done with better editing as I have stumbled across a few silly spelling errors. Usually this would be a deal breaker for me but the plot line has me sticking with it. Highly recommended.
This could have been an amazing series if .... Instead of trying to write a 10 book series it was 3 or 4 books. The writing was not so repetitive The foreshadowing was not so heavy handed
I cannot go any further. It ends for me with book 2. 😕
Love this series! Brie is coming into her powers and learning what her role is to be. This book ended in a cliffhanger but thank god the next book is here and ready for me to read.
As with the first book, this story is very engaging. Some of the phrases are wrong and there are a few grammatical errors, but nothing you can't get past.
