Gwen Cooper never imagined she would return to the Otherworld. But when her Breenan friend Bran grows ill, she must pass through a portal once again to take him home. Gwen’s actions three months earlier have left the Otherworld failing and her mother dying. Driven by guilt, Gwen must travel through dangerous Breenan territory on a quest for a spell to restore the realm and heal her mother. She encounters terrifying obstacles and a ruthless Breenan king who puts a countdown on Gwen’s life. Can she unite her two worlds to restore the realm before she is lost in the Otherworld forever?
Emma Shelford feels that life is only complete with healthy doses of magic, history, and science. Since these aren't often found in the same place, she created her own worlds where they happily coexist. If you catch her in person, she will eagerly discuss Lord of the Rings ad nauseam, why the ancient Sumerians are so cool, and the important role of phytoplankton in the ocean.
Emma is the author of the Nautilus Legends (a marine biologist discovers that mythical sea creatures are real), the Musings of Merlin Series (Merlin is immortal, forever young, and living in the modern day), and the Breenan Series (a young woman follows a mysterious stranger into an enchanting Otherworld).
Aidan is preparing to move to Vancouver to attend music school near Gwen and Ellie when Bran portals himself out of the Otherworld. He’d intended to visit Gwen, but ended up at Aidan’s home.
When he accidentally portals Gwen to them, he overextends himself, and they all have to go back to the Otherworld.
Fave scenes: Gwen comforting Deirdre, playing the flute in the market, and the Garden of Love made Visible.
I really enjoyed Emma Shelford's view of the fae world being so closely related to the human world and the need for humans and fae to work with each other.
