As told to Suman Chhabria Addepalli with a foreword by Rashmi Bansal - A Bestselling author. The inspirational story of an entrepreneur who built a 100-crore company with the power of intent and love . Indra Nooyi said, “Women can’t have it all!” It’s either career or family. I disagree. As I see it, we can have it all – a successful company, a loving family and the opportunity to follow our passion. When I was a teenager, I started a small ghar-ka-business selling trendy handbags. Today, Baggit is a 100-crore company. Along the way, I became a wife and a mom, and navigated the various twists and turns in my personal life. I could do it all because of my loving, supportive family and my guru, who have made me a better person and a better entrepreneur. This is the story of how a C-minus student – a failure in college – became an A-plus entrepreneur. If I can do it, so can you. My secrets are in these pages.

As a woman in India, one has to face multiple challenges when one decides to start their own start-up. Nina Lekhi is one woman who is making India proud at the moment by surpassing all these visible-invisible, tangible-intangible boundaries and how!

I decided to take up to read this book when I read the blurb of the book where Nina shatters the claims of Indra Nooyi who had said, “Women can’t have it all. It is either career or family.” Such a statement, when it comes from someone as powerful as Nooyi, doesn’t help the cause of women upliftment at all. It only strengthens the sexist belief that there cannot be equality among genders. I am sure Nooyi had her own reasons to state this, but when Nina came up with this refreshing thought that it is not necessary that women cannot have it all, I decided to find out how.

As a woman in India, we have to do it all. Doesn't matter if you own a successful business or you are a CEO of a multinational company. You really have to do it all; whether it is family or work. But where to find the balance to do it all? Take some inspiration from Nina Lekhi, who shares her journey in a book that I read this week, Bag It All. From starting a small business from her home of selling trendy bags to making it into 100 crore club, Nina shares her life lessons that can inspire many women how to handle it all.

Bag It All by Nina Lekhi may come across as an autobiography but instead is her journey and life lessons that she learned though Baggit, her famous brand of bags and other accessories. I remember when I earned a small fortune through blogging for the first time, I picked up my first good wallet from Baggit at a Lifestyle outlet near my place. And after 6 years on, I still have that wallet me.

But Nina's journey is not just about her company. It's about her life as well and what all she had to do to create such a magnificent brand. What all she had to sacrifice and put aside for her one simple goal. Bag It All begins with providing a peek into Nina's life as she was growing up. How she flunked in 11th standard thanks to teenage hormones mixed with a few cocktails and enrolled herself into a part time designing course that will be her first stepping stone into the world of bags.

Then gradually, the narration moves on to Nina's marriage and the day she opened her first retail outlet. In this section, one can see how gracefully Nina started settling down in her life after marriage and putting more and more focus into her brand. She had immense support from her in-laws and husband, and that is something commendable. Because these days we generally do not see such attitude in families. But Nina was really lucky in this case, and she could focus more on building Baggit.

As the narration in Bag It All moves on, we start getting a deeper insight into the life of a businesswoman, who is handling everything. A proper household, kid and a 100 crores business. And I noticed some really pleasant things in the book as well. Nina's spiritual journey and her implementation of SSY into the Baggit culture. How she merged her family into business, from her husband to other family members. How her life is constantly transforming when Baggit is counted amongst Big Leagues of Bags. An inspirational journey, one can learn many things from Bag It All when it comes to how to balance all aspects of life.

Now speaking on the review side, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Bag It All doesn't portray Nina like a pompous person who keeps on blaring that she owns a 100 crore business. You can see that this woman of character has gracefully handled her failures, doesn't shy away from experimenting and is always grateful for her team. Bag It All is not just about Nina, it's about her Baggit family as well.
Another brilliant thing I loved about Nina is the never giving up attitude. She has also given a very clear message through Bag It All that degree doesn't define the success of a person. Perseverance and hard work can take you to places. Also, an extra pinch of spirituality works wonder as well. A person who is not balanced and fit in mind won't be able to tackle tricky waters of running a business, this message is very much clear from Bag It All.

There is one issue though that I have with Bag It All, the mechanical cum robotic language. Even though the book is really good I would have preferred the language to be a bit more engaging. In some areas it is fine but in other areas, it's as if mechanical or robotic, especially in the second half of the book.

But all in all, Bag It all is a brilliant read especially for people who are looking for some inspiration.

Bag It All by Nina Lekhi is her autobiography in which she has passed on her ‘secret to success’ in clean and simple words. The book is truly honest and inspiring tale of how a woman entrepreneur created a business empire worth 100 crores. As told in her autobiography, Nina Lekhi sets an example that with the right approach, biggest failures can be turned into success stories.

The book begins with an impressive foreword by Rashmi Bansal followed by the 15-chapter story of a young ambitious girl who started selling as a part time when she got detained in class XI. A very unique thing about Bag it All by Nina Lekhi is that every chapter has learning at the end and one can easily connect the dots. 18-year-old Nina had learned everything about retail and found a need of ‘cool bags' and ...see review

Starting from the first look of the book, I could make out that this book will surely reach my heart. Yes, it did. The cover of the book is fantastic as it has the picture of the owner, Nina Lekhi, of Baggit Brand. Those who are unaware of this Baggit then I would like to tell you that Baggit is a brand name that deals with handmade bags. It has a history of many years and now the turnover has reached upto 100 crores. This book is a story of young Nina who went through thick and thin to make a small shop into such a big brand. Behind all this, lies the support of family members, friends and relatives.Even the contribution of yoga and Guru ji brought Nina's life on a track.

The book is divided into 3 parts, it has a narration of Nina's life and then the next part has her struggles along with it, are the lessons she learnt from those struggles and experiences. Honestly speaking, when I started reading this book, I was in my low modes. But after reading it, my mind was fresh and I was ready to take up the challenges. Furthermore, the way the author has used the remarks made by her dear and near ones makes it impeccable.

The book is written in a simple yet lucid way. It is easy to understand and comprehend. Some of the pictures used in the book makes it look beautiful. This book is not an autobiography but a journey of Nina which we can go through by reading this book.

Nina Lekhi, the founder of Baggit India answers the question that haunts working-women all over India in this 200 odd-page candid read. And her journey from her first failure to her many successes in her career spanning more than 2 decades is nothing but inspiring. Nina takes us, with candour through her first and most glaring failure that only became her fuel to succeed later. It's a book about the journey of a businesswoman who's keen on making her mark on the world and a woman on the path to self-discovery. Full of honesty, wisdom and insightful tips; this book is a must-read for those who want to educate themselves on the story behind the success story that Baggit is. For those who think, building a company from scratch is all about hard-work will know that there's a lot more to it than just that. And for those who want their ambitions to take flight, you'll find just the right amount of push. I've read this and enjoyed it thoroughly only to find myself smiling at what the book proves in the end - women can bag it all!

Bag It All, the biography of Nina Lekhi.( founder and MD of Baggit India, a brand that is associated with handmade bags) is not only an inspiring story for all women who want to step out and achieve success, but is also something that everyone must read. Despite of all the articles we read about gender equality, the bitter truth is that working women in India still face a lot of challenges. The situations may be changing in the metros but the fact remains the same that India is not only Delhi or Mumbai. The book tells us the roller coaster journey of Nina Lekhi and how she turned the brand into a successful name and made it a company worth 100 crore.

I had read a book It Happened in India by Kirhore Biyani (founder of Big Bazaar, Pantaloons etc. and the king of retail in India) and how he made the brands a big success. I was highly impressed by his journey. After that, this is the book on entrepreneurship that really inspired me. The book not only narrates Nina Lekhi's life but also makes us aware of her struggles and the lessons she learnt from those struggles. Everyone really needs to read the book that teaches us how to rise to success after facing initial failures. This will be a special treat for all business aspirants.

All in all Bag It All is truly an inspirational journey.

Inspiring, Interesting and Introspective

Bag It All is an inspiring biography of Baggit M.D. Nina Lekhi. It is a clean and easy read. All the chapters and lessons flow smoothly, so the reader can grasp things effortlessly. I finished reading the book in less than two days! Her business mantras are clear and simple, and so is her life. Nina Lekhi is a strong woman who took the right steps at the right time. The beautiful thing that I found is, she managed to work with her family, taking all the conflicts and hardships that came along in the right stride. Her life progressed along with the growth of Baggit. Becoming a wife and a mother did not deter her enthusiasm which is something to adhere. Read the full review here: https://goo.gl/955oJx

The seeds for Baggit were planted by Nina Lekhi at the young age of 18 when she failed her First year of Commercial Art. What started in one half of the children’s bedroom in her parents’ house, only as a means to move forward from her failure and to prove herself, has today grown into a 100+ crore company.

Along the way, Lekhi became a wife and mom, and navigated the new paths and destinations of her life. As the business grew, she roped in the support of her family who continue to be actively involved in the running of the Brand alongside her.

During her journey, she also came across Siddha Samadhi Yoga and became an ardent follower. She has imbibed their principles to maintain work-life balance as well as create a harmonious work ethic at her company, which has yielded profitable returns in both spheres of her life.

Bag it All is a management lesson that unfolds right before you on its pages. Lekhi tells her story of how the brand was created, the risks she took, and the practices she adopted.

The book is broken down into chapters that progress through the growing phases of the business, while also imparting a valuable entrepreneurial lesson at the end. She shares the practices that worked, as well as the mistakes that taught her valuable lessons.

Lekhi strongly believes that women can have it all – A loving family, a successful company, and the opportunity to follow our passion. She reveals the secrets of her inspirational success story, that comes with a full serving of hard work and determination, along with a generous helping of good design and aesthetic which helped her take off.

In doing all this, she has created lasting business relationships with her employees, vendors, and clients, which go a long way in making Baggit the successful company it is today.

Bag it all is truly a bag it all story. I believed that a one stretch read suits thrillers and crime novels but Bag it all has broken my view of it. Nina has phased her story in such a way that one cannot but it down until they finish it. The 200 pages of this inspirational story has almost three decades of experience in it.

Nina hasn’t concentrated only about her story instead she has given worthy advises for individuals who thrive to succeed in their respective career. Every chapter has highlighted learning box which carries valuable life lessons.

The growth of Baggit and its literal rise to the peak has been narrated to the perfection. Rather than being a biography the book is a road to success for entrepreneurs. The ups and downs of Baggit and the lessons Nina teaches through those experiences are valuable.

I loved the usage of sentences throughout the book. For example when explaining about forgetting the past and moving on Nina states “Had Cinderella turned back to pick up her shoe, she wouldn’t have become a princess”. It is one of my favorites in the book.

The book is a masterpiece, written by Suman Chhabaria Addapalli and the foreword is given by Rashmi Bansal. I read the blurb and was attracted to read the book – Bag it all. I picked up the Bag it all book with the intention of reading a few pages and getting back to it later. I read the foreword and my interest was ignited and I read page after page and finished the Bag it all book in one sitting.
The simple and lucid style of the book kept me riveted and I could actually feel a personal connect with the events and happenings described by Nina in the book.'Bag it all' is an inspirational and motivational story of a woman entrepreneur, Nina Lekhi who has built a 100-crore company – Baggit with the power of intent and love.
I would recommend readers to read this book not only because it is a good read, but because there is a deeper inspirational current running through the book, which is truly transformational.

Bag It All is a neat, well-written personal essay – a tell-all ‘as she sees it’. The story flows seamlessly, which makes it a quick, easy and clean read. Having been a patron of Baggit – I have walked into Baggit’s INXS store, and its store at the Atria mall several times – this was an interesting story of a naïve entrepreneur that started off a journey just to prove a point. May we all be surrounded by some more of ‘such people’.

The story is about the classic Indian small business that has now crossed Rs. 1.0bn in revenues. And while this growth has brought on the usual pulls and pressures, it appears to have retained its core cultural identity. Most remarkably, it doesn’t seem to split the family or hamper family ties.

Having seen several businesses grow from the ringside, and having incubated a few for large organizations that I have worked for, I am sure the journey to growth was not as easy – but there is a certain guileless honesty in the way it has been written, which made me smile while reading.

Review By Ila Garg

Bag It All, which is a biography of Baggit M.D. Nina Lekhi, is published by Jaico Publishing House. The cover has Nina Lekhi on it with a bag from her brand. The confidence on her face is simply magnetic. The inspiring smile can’t go unnoticed and encourages one to know her more as a person and to read her journey from being a girl-next-door to a woman entrepreneur. I did review another book on women entrepreneurs on my blog some time ago. Do check if you are interested in the subject.

Nina Lekhi is Founder, MD and Chief Design Curator of Baggit India, a market leader in bags and accessories. She has won several prestigious awards from the Indian government and media for her contributions. Baggit has achieved recognition from PETA for being a cruelty-free, vegan brand. Nina is an ardent follower of Siddha Samadhi Yoga (SSY) and maintains work-life balance by shuttling between Mumbai and the hills of Katarkhadak village (adopted by her to ensure rural employment and overall welfare) with her husband and daughter. She can be reached @ninalekhi on Twitter.

Suman Chhabaria Addepalli is the founder of Urban Firefly – a unique portal for gardening enthusiasts. But she is a writer at heart with a 16-year career in Communications. Suman also possess an MBA in Social Entrepreneurship making her an absolute multi-faceted talent.
