BOYS is a fully-illustrated compilation taken from parts of my previous works, a collection of characters of incredible diversity. We have Cellini whose lover plucked the first hairs from his chin to remember him by, and Machiavelli who admits the ecstasy of growling into the ears of his lover while taking his pleasure. There are killers such as the divine Caravaggio and Cellini; as well as he who was arguably the greatest human being to have walked the earth, Leonardo da Vinci. There are those whose destinies were so unbelievable that I’ve listed my sources in a Forward so that the reader can verify the reliability of the facts, men like the explorers Stanley and Burton, and the poet Byron. There were veritable heroes, Speke who found the source of the Nile and Jack Nicholson who fought during the Mutiny of India; and true gay saints: the Sacred Band and the equally sacred 300 at the Thermopylae. There were rogues like the charismatic and beautiful Alcibiades, and men more beautiful still, Gottfried Cramm, world tennis champion in 1937, with whom we’ll delve into the sexuality of pre-war Berlin, and Astore Manfredi, a boy so exquisite that Renaissance artists flocked to paint his portrait, although in that category the hands-down winner was Antinous, whose life Hadrian took so that he could prolong his own. There were the warriors, Alexander the Great and Lawrence of Arabia, and Cesare Borgia. Nature chose my own personal camp for me, sexually, and I’m going to do my best, in this volume as I have in all my other books, to prove that I’ve received a truly proud heritage--a heritage to be truly proud of--thanks to the fabulous men who preferred other men.
