When the world becomes chaos, a group of people goes into hiding in a large bunker. Ninety nears later, they are still there. But what if they want out? What if there is life outside after all this time? What if the government is lying to them about the outside world? These are the questions Amelia, and her close friends need answers to. Amelia is like everyone else in Terra Convex, except for her curious mind and outspoken attitude. She wants to ask questions. She wants to know what awaits outside. She wants to go out. But the government won't let her. So, what happens when she finally has proof? Will the people want out of their "safe place"? Will the government ever give them the chance?
Amy Ward is a married mother of three, just living the dream in Greenwood, Arkansas. She lives on a farm where she enjoys taking care of her chickens and mules. Her passion is anything outdoors - hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, trail running, and mountain biking. She also loves to spend time in Colorado, where she also owns a condo. Much of what you read from her was written in the beautiful San Juan Mountains.
Amy, along with her daughter, Olivia Cayenne, recently published their third Young Adult Fiction Novel. They have begun their fourth novel which will be a prequel in the Secrets Series. The Secrets Series is far from over, however, as they also plan on writing novellas about some of the more important characters that stole the hearts of their readers.
In addition to the Secrets Series, Amy has also started writing a short story series called Myra: Everlasting. The first in the series is in ebook version on Amazon. It is called Myra: Changed. The story follows the life, death, and rebirth of Myra in the world of vampires.
Amelia is a young resident of Terra Convex, an underground facility that the human race ran to after an apocalyptic event ninety years earlier. Amelia is curious. Amelia asks questions. Not a good combination for a government controlled world where all decisions are made for you. What's outside? Amelia wants to know, but will she ever? This book is a wonderful YA book that has an easy to read pace. The characters are believable, and the situation scary. What would you do in this Orwellian, 1984esque story?
The book has a 1984 (George Orwell) vibe to it. The feeling of repression is real. This is a character driven book, where you follow the thoughts and action of Amelia as she just wants to be free.
I would suggest this for young adult, as the book does not have candid love scenes. There is a bit of romance, which is sweet and clean. The story line keeps you interested for the desire to see what happens next.
I came across this book thanks to a reading challenge, and I'm glad that I did. I initially fell in love with post-apocalyptic books wayyy back in 6th grade when I read The City of Ember. This book reminded me of The City of Ember in a few different ways. I will definitely be saving this title for my kids to read when they get a little older; it was that good! I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Not all heroes need to be six foot four inch brawny males. Not all monsters need to be covered with hair and have fangs. Amelia proved to be a rose, including the thorns. Hopefully this doesn't become somewhat prophetic.
